When Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon, her parents, the rulers of Far Far Away, invite them over. But as the king does not like Shrek, he enlists a fairy to keep him away from his daughter.

It's believed that Fairy Godmother is the 1 who cursed Fiona to become an Ogre. Long story short, Fairy Godmother helped cure King Harold of being a frog once he was kissed by Lillian, but what he didn't know was that by making a deal with Fairy Godmother was that his daughter would be cursed to become an Ogre. The reason why Fairy Godmother did this to Fiona was that way Charming could rescue her when they were both old enough & he would become the next king of Far Far Away. This idea is expanded upon further in Shrek 3.

Literally everything about this movie is perfection incarnate! The universe building, Larry King as the Ugly Stepsister, the debut of Puss in Boots and the strong emotional core. The best part will always be Jennifer Saunders singing "Holding Out for a Hero" while the giant Gingerbread Man walks around. One of the greatest climaxes in animation!

The KNIGHTS scene is the best joke in the whole franchise
The White Bronco reference and the pepper grinders makes me roar with laughter
I love the "I Need Some Sleep" sequence not only because of the song itself, because of that scene in general. Shrek is feeling bad about himself because he doesn't feel to be the true Prince Charming Fiona wished for, nor her parents. I also always listen to this song whenever I'm feeling stressed to calm myself down.
And then it's followed by Royal Pain in the third movie
I never got that "Sir Justin" reference when i first saw this film, but now i do. It referenced Justin Timberlake, who eventually played Arthur Pendragon in the following sequel, Shrek The Third.
The crazy thing about the catnip? If you pause at just the right time, you see that the catnip was actually in the gauntlet of the knight who ‘found’ it. In other words, that catnip really WASN’T Puss’s.

@@gurvmlk well, she's not afraid to use love potions and admit it herself (about forcing people to fell in love) so it won't be surprising to learn she was the one who cursed Fiona.
Maybe that was even part of the deal like with Rumplestiskin (I don't know how it's spell)
They basically took what was so great about the first Shrek film and made it ten times better! It is such a great comedic film! There are a lot more characters and references in this one than in the first film, just about every joke got a laugh out of me. Far Far Away looks amazing, they made it look like a place you would see in Hollywood while still making it look like something you would see in a fairy tale.

Shrek 2 is the best sequel ever. It's so freaking hilarious, new characters, crazy actions and best songs, especially I need a hero. Fairy Godmother is a great villain in this movie

There's a theory that Fairy godmother cursed Fiona so she could have her son break the curse,marry her and become king. Which would make sense.

I had a theory once that the Fairy Godmother was the one who put the curse on Fiona. So that way, it would be easy for Charming to marry her and rule the kingdom. And, considering that the Fairy Godmother spoils Charming rotten, it would make sense why she would do it.

The KNIGHTS sequence is perfect: the OJ white bronco reference and even stereotypes regarding people getting caught by police (Donkey, a Black man, being used police brutality; Shrek, a white man being pepper sprayed; Puss, a Latino man being caught with drugs, like catnip)
True, but Puss is not Latino, he’s Spanish (Spain), so he’s still European
Fun Fact:
Fairy Godmother says "What in Grimm's name" instead of "What in God's name" because the brothers Grimm created most (if not all) of the fairytales making the two of them the creators of the stories.
Shrek 2 is not only one of the best animated sequels but also one of the best from DreamWorks You can watch it several times and it's still great.
The reveal that Harold was the Frog Prince the whole time is brilliant. Great story and the idea that this is what became of his life is amazing
Dragon was (almost) written out of the story as she would be to OP when Shrek and friends were going to break into the castle towards the end so Donkey said that she was getting all moody and stuff (which hinted at her pregnancy), hence why Mongo was created (originally he was going to be like a kaiju all the way through but he was made dumb and kinda like a little kid and only made him like Godzilla when angered).
The directors have comfirmed in the audio commentary that Dragon turned into a Pegasus when Donkey drank the potion.
Fun fact: They were gonna show the potion effected Dragon. She turned into a pegasus. A horse with wings.
I would expect her to turn into a majestic roc. Better size consistency.
John Cleese (King Harold) and Julie Andrews (Queen Lillian) recorded their lines together, which is rare in the animation industry as big stars have full schedules and therefore rarely get the chance to work together. The few exceptions are Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in the first two Toy Story movies, Don Rickles and Estelle Harris in Toy Story 2, John Goodman and Billy Crystal and Steve Buscemi and Frank Oz in Monsters, Inc.
Talk about a sequel that is better than the first! This has to be one of Dreamworks Animation’s best films ever. It has more hilarious jokes, adding Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots is a great addition, and I can’t think of one person who doesn’t like the “I Need A Hero” scene. Who wouldn’t like it? It’s amazing! It’s pretty much official that Shrek 2 is where the franchise peaked.
But then the third movie came...
DAME QUEEN JULIE ANDREWS was just absolutely brilliant in this franchise ❤

I feel like a lot of reactors miss the H5O reference, it's very brief (and the show was before most of them were even born! 👴 so can't really fault them for that).
Now that there's an official Puss in Boots movie set before this, if Puss had taken the potion, that would mean it would’ve affected Kitty Softpaws.
It would've been HILARIOUS if nothing happened, cause they're already perfect.
Fun fact in case you didn’t know, Julie Andrews (aka Mary Poppins) is the queen. Too bad she can’t sing beautifully like she used to. Still a beautiful 88 year old woman tho!
Truly one of the greatest animated sequels of all time that's actually better than the original!

I think Dragon became a Pegasus at the same time Donkey became a Steed. That's how the babies turned out like they are when the potion ended as the babies came during the potion.

The ending is astounding, because it was SO satisfying to watch Fairy Godmother try to become Darth Sidious from Star Wars by using the Force Lightning, but it was Fiona's father that judged her justly. 👏

Even the DVD extras including the Far Far Away Idol have different endings for picking Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots as the best endings while the bad ending is Simon Cowell singing when you pick anyone else besides the three
Easily one of the best animated films of all time. Tons of great characters. Eventful storyline. Genuinely funny punch lines. Great lessons. Bumping soundtrack. All of the little details and references they threw in on top of it.

Shrek 2 is one of the best sequels ever! The first one is the best, in my opinion, but this is definitely a close second

This one was basically a bigger middle finger at the house of mouse than the original.
Then you have very subtle references to Star Wars (Far Far Away) and then the obvious references to the Disney princesses.

In Italian, when Puss introduces himself and writes the P to announce his name, since we call him "Gatto con gli Stivali", when he writes the P on the tree he says in that moment "Pray for mercy from the BRAVE ('prode') Puss in Boots".
Puss in boots himself is very amazing and funny in this Shrek movie.

The fact that Fiona realises, in that one conversation with her father, that Shrek is right - no matter what he does, King Harold will never approve. Shrek has genuinely tried and Harold has thrown it all back at him, and now Shrek has gone missing and her father doesn't care? Yeah, no wonder that spurred her into action - it's the moment that Fiona realises that, actually, her happiness with Shrek is more important - so she packs up and intends to head out to find him and go home.
She wants "what any Princess wants. To live happily ever after with the Ogre [she] married."
And that ending scene shows that they've patched their marriage up. Shrek asks *her*, before doing anything, if she wants to stay human; he's giving all the autonomy to her - what *she* wants, he'll do. She, for her part, rejects that - she wants the Ogre she married. So they talk and listen and become themselves again: they finally become Shrek *and* Fiona.

28:34 For those that don’t know, this line is from a classic TV show in the ‘70s called “Sanford & Son”, starring legendary comedian Redd Foxx. In the show, any time the main character Fred Sanford (played by Foxx) would get into trouble or have something shocking happen to him, he would fake having a heart attack, claiming it’s the “big one” and call on his dead wife Elizabeth saying that he was about to “join her” in heaven.
Example: There’s an episode where he finds a bag full of $50,000. And Fred fakes the heart attack and screams “You hear that, Elizabeth? I’m coming to join you, honey: RICH!!!!”
I loved watching Shark 2 since I was seven and this movie onwards are the only ones I can get my sister to watch (she doesn’t like too watch the first one ever since she started to understand the adult jokes I think 💭) I get the frustration of long road trips even if the places I went didn’t take three days (the places included Denver, Phenix, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Anaheim and during the trip through the first three places I had to my younger sisters complain about how long we are in the car for) it’s something I can show my sister for her birthday today when she gets out of school
I never got why people react to movies they’ve already seen before as if it’s their first time

This is such a perfect sequel in my eyes it’s extra funny and the story is perfect also the soundtrack is so amazing and I also loved the new characters like Puss and Boots and Fiona’s parents and charming and. the Fairy Godmother is an awesome villain and love the references to other movies and things as well 😊 I’m happy that Shrek and Fiona remained as ogres even though I do admit that Shrek looked really cute as human 😁 but that’s why they fell in love with each other in the first place and also for who they really are on the inside 💚💚 Also it’s better as well that Donkey stayed as Donkey 😄 loved your reaction once again fans on with the third one 😁👍👍💚

As you recommend I don't think too hard about how Donkey and Dragon's babies happened... What I do think too hard about is, what happened to Dragon while Donkey was under the effects of the potion. If Fiona became human along with Shrek, what did Dragon look like while Donkey was a stallion?
I said she turned into a roc (a mythical giant eagle). Someone else said a pegasus (winged horse), which does make sense to make her more compatible with Stallion!Donkey

If the first movie looks like the backstory of the main character. The second film is a big adventure with a lot of events and characters.
