Elisha and Elijah were also different from each other while all apostles were given the same mission by Jesus. In the new testament there are also few distinctions. Like Peter being singled out and chosen as the head of the church, then the fact that only Peter, John and James were allowed to witness transfiguration etc. So there are differences and no equality. The thing is.. they were all given the same mission as evident by Jesus' words. To share the Gospel. Now the persecution were prophesied and they all probably knew they had to give their lifes in order to give testimony and prove they weren't not making this up, since the God of the Bible doesn't enjoy torture for torture's sake. So I believe it would be the most logical and human reaction to have for the 11 to, upon meeting Jesus in heaven, be like 'yeah so you are telling us it wasn't necessary for us all to die in order to share the Gospel? And since you went out of your way to save John, can you please tell us again why did we have to die like that?'. This reminds me how many Christians in history were persecuted or killed in horrific ways, because of their faith! This is so sad, 😞 but that is the evil in the world and the fight with evil is never easy...
I don't have the strength of these men to willingly submit, I would die for Christ but I'm making sure I die in the fight for them to take me, because getting taken alive seems a horrifying fate.

Stephen was the first desciple martyred in Acts 7. Abel was the first martyred for pleasing God just like Jesus. I thought people tried to boil John, but God saved him. Then he was exiled to an island where he then wrote the Book of Revelation.

Another time, John was forced to drink poison, but, as promised in Mark 16:18, it did not hurt him. Thus John, the head of the church in Ephesus at the time, was banished to Patmos in A.D. 97.

This is even more proof that Jesus is the living God. Men and women die for what they think is not lie. There is noone that dies FOR a lie unless these men witnessed Our Lords resurrection and was filled with the Holy Spirit.

John, the one Jesus loved was indeed boiled, but he survived unscathed from the oil and was banished to the island of Patmos afterward.
Imagine how the rest of the disciples would have felt, had they learned God saved John but not them.

@@mmlwriter1 first of all it's not really about equality but meaning. Daniel and Stephan can't be compared. Elisha and Elijah were also different from each other while all apostles were given the same mission by Jesus. In the new testament there are also few distinctions. Like Peter being singled out and chosen as the head of the church, then the fact that only Peter, John and James were allowed to witness transfiguration etc. So there are differences and no equality. The thing is.. they were all given the same mission as evident by Jesus' words. To share the Gospel. Now the persecution were prophesied and they all probably knew they had to give their lifes in order to give testimony and prove they weren't not making this up, since the God of the Bible doesn't enjoy torture for torture's sake. So I believe it would be the most logical and human reaction to have for the 11 to, upon meeting Jesus in heaven, be like 'yeah so you are telling us it wasn't necessary for us all to die in order to share the Gospel? And since you went out of your way to save John, can you please tell us again why did we have to die like that?'. I'm not saying there is no reason just that it would be the most logical reaction to have. And funny. Kind of in dark comedy sort of way.
Jesus died for our sins, was buried, then rose from the dead 3 days later so that we may have eternal life. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord & believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Repentance & baptism are also important!!) The only disciple that showed up at the cross John is the only one that died naturally. All others had horrible deaths. Something to think about.

Tertullian says John survived the Roman attempt to fry him alive, and that freaked them out so they exiled him to Patmos. Eusebius clarifies that this happened under the emperor Domitian, and that Domitian died in 96, and Nerva, the next emperor, freed his political prisoners, including John, who then lived out the rest of his days in Asia minor.

I think of the mártires that died singing, looking up to heaven… they knew their bodies were being destroyed, but that when Jesus would come back, He would give them a better and restored one, and they’d see Him again, to live eternally with Him.. a small price to pay for their love for Him..

I heard in an Audio Book an interesting way a Christian should approach the dilemma of dying now, or staying in the world possibly longer than Christ wants:
"Is it worth it to avoid danger and stay longer in a world that will ultimately fade away and eventualy your body will end too, or suffer only once and briefly and then spend eternity in love and happiness and in the Presence of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with no more pain and suffering ever again"
