    Babe Ruth does have a rookie card: its his 1915 M101-5 Sporting News. Im more biased with strictly baseball, but my top three would be Mays, Mantle and Ruth. Theres others I would deem decent investments within maybe a top twenty with players like Ernie Banks, Al Kaline, Harmon Killebrew, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Mike Schmidt, Willie McCovey, among a number of others. I say this, because these are still very affordable rookie cards in low grade. Its going to be hard to lose when youre only spending around 200.00 or less on most of those cards. My main go-to with these players, however, is not with sports cards, but with original photographs. You arent going to beat scarcity on photos, or even in some cases, with price. Ive found some absolute steals on photos, including a Mike Schmidt original rookie-era photo for just under 20.00.

      Hank Aaron? …

    • @vintagecollector5340
      @vintagecollector5340 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jetercollector2134 Aaron is great. He would be in my top five. Since his rookie has gone up in recent years, his rookie is no longer considered as affordable. However, comparing him to Mantle and Mays, he's definitely the cheapest of the bigger names. I only quoted players I did, due to their rookies still mostly being well under 500.00 in lower grades. They're all great players, and it's unfortunate that most still fly under the radar. Mantle, Mays Clemente and Aaron are the four biggest names of the 50s. All the others just haven't even come close to their values.

    I disagree Michael Jordan rc 1986 is one of most iconic cards in sports and will always be in demand and his the GOAT of basketball , Sorry Lebron fans . Vintage is safe and Modern cards are risky . I bought Brady RC SPX BGS 9 for 8k now its 3k to 4k well at least he is the GOAT Football .

      Older cards are better because players have 1 or 2 cards and no parallels. Brady has too many rookie cards for money to spread around that's why they drop.
      The WNBA cards I've bought have been pretty stable because pre Panini they made one set of 500 copies a year and there aren't any parallels. If you want a players rookie card, there is one card to chase so all the money has few places to travel and it keeps prices up

    I only collect vintage pre-1976 and mostly 1950's and 1960's and agree with Ruth. My personal favorites are Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle who are also great vintage investments; with PSA 7 or better being the best long term investments; especially Mays who should not be worth so much less than Mantle. I don't agree golf cards will be a good long term investments and don't have enough knowledge of modern cards to know if Brady will be a good investment. A card from the year 2000 is not a vintage card. I think the video maker has the right idea for investing and understands that supply and demand is the main driving factor, so he should do just fine with his investments. Just don't be too quick to catch a falling knife(a stock market expression for buying a stock that drops, but buying too soon before it's come close to bottoming).

    Totally agree with you in regards to the. Goudey Ruth cards. They are still extremely undervalued IMO. The pop reports are also far from accurate on how many out there as there have been an extremely high # of them that have been cracked out and resubmitted trying to get bumps in grades that have dramatically inflated the pop reports.

    I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate with you on Babe Ruth. While he is revered by my generation (Gen X), I’m noticing a narrative coming from Millennials and GenZ.
    There have been numerous debates by the media on Ohtani vs Ruth. And the one negative I hear against Ruth from younger people is that he played against inferior competition. They will usually say he played against plumbers and construction workers. Plus he played before Baseball was integrated so he never played against ALL of the best competition from that era.
    Now the integration argument is a legit argument, but Ruth’s stats were so much better than his contemporaries, I feel he would still hit 700 Homeruns today.
    What I worry about Ruth, Jim Brown, Bill Russell, Johnny Unitas vintage cards is the younger generation of collectors won’t value them the way I would value them. If they feel those eras were inferior competition, than they won’t look at those players as iconic
    They will then gravitate to the eras they deem legit and guys like Jordan. Magic, Montana, Bird and Rickey Henderson rookies will be that much more in demand to them. The common argument is the NBA really started with Bird/Magic, or the NFL really started after the merger. It bothers me that younger sports fans don’t look at Ruth, Jim Brown and Wilt Chamberlain the way I do, but that’s the reality.

      Chris, you have a great point. I'm in my late 30s and grateful to witness MJ, Kobe and Bron from my childhood to adulthood. That said, it is very true that athletes today in general are bigger, stronger, faster and smarter. Combine that with today's diet, science and technology, players can only get better. Players/athletes today eat, breathe and sleep whichever sports they play for. Therefore, it is inevitable they can only be better. Also, back in Ruth's era, everyone was playing sports part time as well.
      The point is, today's competition are far better than any era. The talent pool are super deep in today's sports.

      Pre-war cards are still bought and sold. No one alive, has seen those players. I wouldn't be too worried about Babe Ruth, being lost in the shuffle. If anything, Shohei Ohtani, is putting some of the spotlight back on Ruth with the comparisons, and being a generation talent, which hasn't been seen...since Ruth

    When making a point about overpaying for unproven players, why do you actually use Trevor Lawrence as an example of a proven player to compare against? Lawrence just like Herbert, Tia, Burrows etc etc are all ultra modern hype objects and none of them are proven yet at all. You should compare to Mahomes at the least

    Not babe Ruth’s rookie. He has a shit load of earlier cards.
    The 1933 variations has at least 10k copies.
    People believe these vintage cards are so rare, they just are not. Ty Cobb has around 10k pre 1915 cards. Also, a shit load of vintage is not slabbed! Many vintage collectors like non slabbed cards. Many are just anti grading.
    So vintage is sitting at this peak, it’s only modestly started it’s drop.
    Vintage should not appreciate at a fast rate. The pops are steady. The players are dead AND YOUNGER COLLECTORS ARE BECOMING LESS ATTACHED.
    My nephew doesn’t know who Mickey mantle is. I grew up with older men in my life, gushing over him, so I have inherited nostalgia (I made that term up but hopefully it makes sense). My nephew will not have inherited nostalgia from me.
    Obviously, people will always collect ty Cobb, babe Ruth, etc., but they may depreciate in popularity.
    This period will be major nostalgia for collectors in 20 years. The hobby is weird, Mickey mantle is a great example.
    Who thinks Mickey mantle is in the top 5? I certainly don’t. I may not even put him in the top 10 and yet, look at the 52 mantle?

    • @ACD1994
      @ACD1994 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not necessarily the rarity, but the condition of vintage cards. Having great eye appeal, the thing is though, when you buy a vintage ''high end'' card in a high grade, it's likely that the card was trimmed or altered in a way.
