The best sounding Cobra in Sim Racing

  • Assetto Corsa's general sound design leaves some to be desired. In a sim which lets you drive and race almost anything, many times the sounds are somewhat underwhelming. Sound is one of the most important parts of really feeling like you are at the control of a racecar, but often goes undervalued in Sim Racing. Its just as important as the visuals and physics of the car to make you feel like you are there. Thankfully we have modders like Scibsound who transforms cars completely with reworked sounds, and allows you to truly immerse yourself in the beauty of driving.
    In this one, a listen to one of the best sounding cars in Assetto Corsa, Scibsound's reworked Cobra 427

    • @NewbombTurk.
      @NewbombTurk. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What would you base the data points off of? There is no actual engine to determine oil pressure, volts off of. Water temp can be assumed based off of over rev and air flow. There is a reason some of those gauges don't work.

    • @craigyirush3492

      @@craigyirush3492 Tire data points are part of what constitutes "grip". Those data points are already part of the sim. The only data we have are power/torque and revolutions. You could mimic oil pressure based on rpm but it wouldn't mean much. Same with volts, the average car's volt meter shouldn't move much while driving.

    • @craigyirush3492
      @craigyirush3492 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NewbombTurk. a working fuel gauge would mean a lot.

    • @yorgle11
      @yorgle11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fuel gauges are supported by the vanilla game, but a ton of mod cars don't bother to make them work for some reason. I agree, it's very frustrating. I hate having to keep one of those "apps" open to see my fuel because the modder didn't make the dashboard needle move.
      If you use CSP (which is included with Content Manager, a highly recommended frontend for AC) then it adds support for way more gauges that don't work in vanilla AC.
      However, the car mod still has to implement them as working gauges. Some of the better made, newer car mods will do this, but most don't.
      Recently I got into making all the dash gauges work on a mod car that I drive a lot, even an analog clock and some warning lights. So it's definitely possible, at least with CSP.
      The way CSP simulates some of these functions is too simplistic, or wrong (IMO), but it does include some features to tweak them, at least partially. I was able to manually change how quickly the oil pressure reacts when I thought the default behavior was way too sluggish vs a real engine. However, I was not able to simulate the bypass that limits maximum pressure on a real car.
      It would be very cool if a degraded engine could start losing oil pressure, and if oil pressure in turn could affect engine degradation - but no such luck. So the oil pressure gauge still can't be made relevant to gameplay, it's just decoration. Maybe the guy working on CSP will keep improving these things though.
      In the meantime I think modders should just make their gauges work. It makes the car more interesting, and if enough people did that, it would help encourage the CSP dev to maybe implement some malfunctions that could happen in long races.

I disputed the claim because there was no music in the videos but it turns out the studio that made the car sounds was behind it. They even emailed me and asked "Don't you think we deserve compensation for our work?" I laughed and told them good luck since my videos get no views but then those videos got a lot of views. They made some great sounds though, so good for them. That was a long time ago and those videos still have ads on them. It's a fairly simple explanation: the acoustics of the exhaust pipes. With the GT40, it's mid-engined, so there's not much pipe work for the exhaust to travel through. The Cobra, as you can see, is front/mid, with side-exit exhausts; the extra pipework alone will change the acoustics.
