oh hey pasta. now i know your youtube name 😈 really glad you like it jimmy. thankfully pasta was here to keep me from changing the original model too much 😅
The sidewall stiffness of cross-ply/bias-ply tyres is horrendous, which is why the car moves around so much. It happens with every car from that period or street cars that used tyres with the same construction method. You'll be going in a straight line and the car will move around like a sailboat on a windy day. The advantage is that they don't snap out of grip like radials do, they gradually get looser and looser near the limit which is why some motorcycle racers still use them.
Jimmy the Nürburgring never gets boring. Its a track that will test ANY car and their driver. To see you hucking this chunky American super car around corners is an absolute blast
An American supercar built in Slough, England. The only American bit was the Ford name and the money to finance the project. Even the chief test driver was a Brit from Birmingham, West Midlands.
@@mikehipperson Nevertheless, Japanese cars built in the USA today are still Japanese cars regardless of the "purity" of the lineage, labor base, or design team. I have never failed to be astounded at the sensitivity of the certain circle of car enthusiasts who spew venom over the GT40 being "called American" and I first learned of the car in the 1980s as a pre-teen. Instead of this stubborn and mildly pointless jingoism, enjoy the goddamned thing.
This mod is just the ultimate gem for a vintage car fan like me. The Shelby Cobra Daytona is also completely upgraded compared to its old version, which was already great. The sound, the behavior, the FFB are absolutely magical on this new version. With this mod alone, I have several years of jubilation and total pleasure.
I have watched your videos for 3 years I think. Was a high level on driving games/sims. And that give me a understanding of what you really do! Most are chasing exploit in the game, but you just drive 👌
My favourite video with this GT40 is Kenny Brack wrestling it around the Goodwood circuit a few years ago. Going down the start-finish straight he's full throttle, slightly sideways, in the pouring rain. You have to see it to believe it.
"Mk 1" is a bit of a misnomer. Because in the '60s there was a Ford GT40 racecar, and, more recently, a Ford GT. Not "40". And I believe the principal race Ford GT40s were the Mark II and Mark IV.
I *think* MK1 was what they retroactively called the 'customer' versions made by Ford Advanced Vehicles in the UK after America/Shelby/H&M took over the works project and developed the MK2. Qualified for the 'Sports' class due to production numbers so it didn't officially race against the prototypes. I believe the MK2 and MK4 aren't technically named 'GT40' but I could be mistaken there.
They were all named GT40, but in typical Ford fashion, they sold off the GT40 name to Superformance when they did the typical all in or all out support of racing.
I wondered why Jimmy sims with a right hand shifter despite being in a RHD market. This car with its right side shifter despite being RHD, being his favourite, makes it make sense.
Us Brits really knew how to build cars in the 60's! Jags, Astons, Lotus F1 cars and the Ford GTs are all absolute leg ends of motorsport. Mr Shedboi.. when you say you want o drive one in real life, are you thinking a real one or a certain faithful replica?
This was a great video to watch. There’s so much love, so much passion for the car. I love this kinda stuff. Do whatever you’re passionate about and people will find you. Keep being awesome, Jimmy. You are loved
Great car that achieved what many thought wasn't possible at the time. What is scary but fun is that you can buy a production road car with aircon, surround audio stereo and other luxuries that would utterly crush this time. Heck some for less than 50 grand.
"American". Ok, it has a Ford motor, but it was developed by Lola and branded by Ford. It is the nicest of the GT40s because later versions just have a massive motor and were heavy. As for the awesome WSC pack from Bazza, I still think the '67 Chapparal 2F is best, when the wing DRS is mapped to a button on the wheel.
Jimmy, "overdoing it" and "Nürburgring" only belong in the same sentence if you're talking racing lines or massive accidents, not your videos! Love this content from the heart
I like it how the moders added that detail when you push it up to 7k the engine just roars wildly. Its just like from the movie. It enters a whole another realm. That scream of the engine really makes you push this thing hard. Great mod.
This car is a hell of a relic! It screams to be overshoot in the corners. I got an idea for you: why don´t you get all cars on Assetto Corsa and take a hot lap on Nordeschleife and make a scoreboard such as top gear? It would be a lot of fun to do, including those weirdo mods. congrats on your work! Keep up!
I've loved the GT40 (though the MkII is my favorite) since I was a little kid as well. Just something about the smooth lola-style body with a monster of a 7.0l V8 in the back just gets the blood pumping.
jimmy isnt wrong.. the section of track between the two carrassel' is by far the funnest portion of track u can drive about anywhere.. the feeling u get when u push hard and get it right through there is unmatched
Sounds incredible.. must be nice to know a track so completely that you can tell if you hit this corner here or will drift out on exit so I’ll counter it befor it starts
The BMW pro car in AMS2 has the same feel. Fast enough to make you feel like the GOAT but sideways enough to make you feel like you're earning the laptime. 😂
i was lucky enough to get to see one of these in person, i got to film the cold start and some passes at a historic racing event. Absolutely stunning in person. I had goosebumps every time i looked at it. The sound lives in my head on repeat often. Such a brutal car. I posted a short vid on my page of it, truly an amazing experience.
The way the ass slips out on every corner is so cool, Goodwood's YT channel has a lot of racecar action from this era and it's a thousand times more exciting than modern racing
My first attempt on Gran Turismo 7 is a 7.59.6 lol completely stock 1966 Mark 1 GT40 it did start off as a out lap to get a feel for the car but I was feeling it so I went for it. Definitely can get more time off of it

I believe this is a Ford GT40 MK2 (or one very similar to a MK2) if I'm not mistaken. Definetely not a MK1. MK1 tail lights and further details in the rear half look different as far as I know. Feel free to correct me though, please! Cheers!
It's a 1966 MK1. The later models (1968+) had the 'Simca' combined rear lights / indicators but the original ones built had these split ones. The MK2 is a bit chunkier than this one to fit the heavy 7 litre engine in.
You should note down the times of the cars that you lap around the Nurburgring and make a leaderboard which you compare each car to at the end of the video - Top Gear style
I just bought a ps4 and a new g29. Ive been play gt6 on ps3 but the screen is rough on the eyes. Even though I finally got this childhood dream set up, I feel like some AC on ps4 will be my Greatest possibility. I do hope it won't take too long to get to level of where I can get cars like the gt40 tho. I've been through so much BS with my ps3 and lost datas with GT.
Why does Jimmy "kick" throttle often when adjusting right feet on the break pedal? Is this on purpose to improve stability, or just pure coincidence that doesn't matter at all ?
So on older cars, when changing down a gear you want to keep similar revs when you engage the clutch and when you release it, to avoid a sudden change in the car's reaction and it's better on the engine. On many older cars, it was essential for not causing damage to the engine too. So, to do this, when you engage the clutch on a downshift, you give the throttle a little blip with the heel so that when you release the clutch the RPM is at the same point. That make any sense?
For me, it's a lot more balanced and fun to play with. Not as quick or powerful as the Mark 4 but it's a lot more fun and controllable. It's all subjective though, no 'right' answer!
@@dodge33cymru Yeah the little bend at the end of the Mulsanne straight (the vintage course without chicanes) at 220mph flat out on the Mark IV is probably the scariest maneuver in sim racing. Every single lap you wonder if you'll make it out alive on the other end. And of course you could lift a bit before, but where's the fun in that? XD
It's sad, that there's so little enthusiasm for vintage racing in the sim racing community. Online servers with older cars are mostly empty on AC. Old cars are where it's at for me. It's always a dance.
