- It's the day before the 500 and all I can think about is the big race, so lets play some Indianapolis 500 Evolution! This is a historic racing game released back in 2009 for the Xbox 360 which lets you compete in IndyCar from 1961 - 1971. Somewhat of an arcade title, the amount of history spread throughout makes it a lot of fun, and all narrated by the legendary Bob Jenkins! Nothing too serious but a fun way to enjoy the day before the big one!

Random fact:
Brain in a Jar was the developer behind the IRL games published by Codemasters in the early 2000's and you can clealy see that this game still run in a updated version of his engine...
The UI, the camera angles, art style and even some of the fake names are the same.
Even having one loading screen after pretty much everything in the game stills on! LOL
I'd definitely love to watch you play more of this game. I really wish they made more of these "racing through the years" games, it's such an awesome concept.

I remember playing a game like that back in 2000 - Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (Windows version). In the career mode you start off in the 1950 Porsche 356 1100 and go through every Porsche since up to the 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (996). That was a fun game for the time.
Milwaukee looks pretty good and accurate. It looks flatter on TV but it has 10° banking and I remember it being fairly banked when I went to Truck races there.
I wish the cars had more adjustability. But it's made up for by the deep research and history in the game. Every car, in every race over a ten year span, reproduced in beautiful detail, with accurate livery. I spent a lot of time on that alone! Just re-bought this game from Amazon. Can't wait to get it and drive a Novi Spcl or the turbine cars!
The camera flashes in the grandstand at Trenton is a nice touch I haven't seen done in many racers.
My dad got to drive a roadster around New Hampshire about ten years ago. It’s owned by the Collings foundation . They own a bunch of Indy cars in their automobile collection. He got about 7 laps in before they made everyone clear the track so that Bentley Warren could go for the track record in a super modified.
Jake, the Indy roadsters of the era ran methanol, not gasoline. Gasoline came into use with the arrival of the Lotus-Fords in 1963. Methanol burned at a cooler temp and had a higher octane than gas so they could run higher compression ratios and produce more power, but it has about half the btu content so required around twice as much if the stuff to go the same distance. It also didn’t vaporize well at cooler ambient temp. It has a very distinct exhaust smell; once you smell it you’ll never forget it!

It's awesome that you did a video on this game. Since watching your videos, I've gone back to this game. I don't have any sim racing games or a PC. I have it for the XBOX 360. Totally underrated/forgotten game.
Full-distance is a real, real marathon. Remember these cars are barely going 150 MPH to start off!

Such a classic gem of a game. Glad someone's hyping up Indy via playing this, sad other pundits decided to ditch fun things like playing this and become too big time, but this was definitely a fun trip down memory lane.
its a good little game and some great fun before indy! I think David is doing great things with his channel and raising hype in his own ways, nothing wrong with that. glad to see how far he has gotten

Jim Hurtibise! There’s a good video of the year he tried to disrupt qualifying at Indy . They would let him qualify a car that would make minimum speed. He got hauled off by the police.
Regarding Langhorne: after it was razed the area was redeveloped for shopping and a Sesame Street themed amusement park. I've been there a couple times and the have a plaque commemorating the track. But it's in the corner of a Bed Bath and Beyond parking lot. Surreal given the lives lost under those buildings.
Looked up Langhorne... wow, what a weird place to race. By no means a perfect circle, but there were no staight-aways... apexing must have been a bitch!
In this game, you can see the "groove" or preferred line around the track, turns it into a distended oval. The topography, (the track slopes down toward turn "one", Puke Hollow, and up towards turn "three") once you figure it out, dictates where you can go faster or have to slow down. I hated Langhorne until I figured it out, then it became one of my favorites.

Indianapolis with the brick front straight does exist for rFactor 1, and should provide a great arena for the Gasoline Alley mod when I finally get around to it. And git gud...
Does RF1 have the roadsters as well ?
@@mikemorgan8895 Yeah, Gasoline Alley is a roadster mod from the really early days of rF1. Pretty good model, good physics, but very challenging to drive.
I did not realize Langhorne was ever paved. Learn something new.
This game is a lot harder with a controller, I think the wheel takes away a lot of the difficulty. With a controller it’s hard to complete anything over a ten lap dace.
Can somebody tell me what wheel is GPLaps using ? I think he was using a G29 at some point. Looking to get my first wheel...maybe.
Also I had no idea you can emulate this game on PC.

I play this all the time with a ps4 controller gyroscope control(motion steering) I dont have a racing rig, maybe one day. Hes using xenia emulator - Great game

yes im using xenia and x360ce for controls. I bought the disk years ago off ebay for less than $10, im sure there are still copies out there or im sure it can be found online
