The general consensus seems to be those two rides as the favorite. I was disappointed when they removed rides like the People Mover and some of the slower rides that were nice to do just to relax after walking for so much.
I absolutely love this ride and it is my favorite by far. Stunning animatronic scenes, beautiful caves, lights and even the scent of the water. Not to mention that it's just a calming ride with the two drops mixed in.

No actually, to be more PC, they removed all of the aspects of what pirates were. When bullying by a political group, forces a piece of art to change, so it won't offend anyone (Which it NEVER did when people were normal), it ceases to be "Art". I'm sure that most reasonable people understand this.
The magic is gone. Where is the Bayou, the man in the rocking chair and the fireflies? Where is the pirate ship in the cave? I was there in the 70's at Disneyland California.

I went to Disney land almost 55 years ago and I still remember this ride. I loved it! Though, as an adult I find the repeated "upbeat" version of the song, especially during the darker parts a bit annoying.
I grew up 15 minutes away from Disneyland and used to go all the time when it was $20 to get in and not totally overcrowded. Not anymore. This ride was a classic and it hasn’t changed much over the years which is good
My only knowledge of it is a quick mention of it in Julie Brown's novelty hit "The Homecoming Queen" - at the time, I had no idea what an "E" ticket was and grasped only the gist that it must be something desirable or impressive.
Love this version of Pirates. Always so much better than WDW version, biggest thing is longer. More scenes in this. I like this inside line setup with it open to the outside instead of going in and down. They could have done the same at WDW if they didn't go down with the entrance line.

Thank you. In the olden days (1970's) we'd run to go to our favorite rides first. First would be the mules, then Pirates, then Haunted Mansion. Then we'd do them all again. I was just a kid of 35, but I enjoyed the heck out of it. Not likely I'll get there again, so thank you for taking us along on this video ride.
Pirates of the Caribbean was my most favorite ride of all times. One year when I went there the ride broke down right before one of the overpass Bridges in there and we were stuck there for over a half an hour and I loved it.❤️
My ride I didn’t really brake down , the boats kept bumping into each other and I almost got stuck on the lift hill where the pirates were shooting each other
Thanks for letting me relive this ride again, one of my absolute favorites, last time I was there in Disneyland on This ride was back in 1995 when a friend took me there for my 35th birthday.
YES! THEY DID A RUSH JOB AT WDW TO GET THIS ATTRACTION OPEN IN 71 AT THE MAGIC KINGDOM. HOWEVER, THE BEST ONE IS THE NEW ONE IN CHINA! ITS FASCINATING AND HAS THAT WOW FACTOR!
I'm so glad they got rid of the Davey Jones projection in the mist leading up to the ship battle scene. I'm also glad they brought back X. Atencio's original narration about the treasure being cursed. The last time I rode this was in September 2019 and I can't remember if those changes were there too; I do remember the octopus though!
I worked on this attraction in the 1980s. Once Michael Jackson was in the park, we cycled all the guests through the ride so he could enjoy it without being mobbed. He said Hi! to me when he was getting on the boat. What a great memory I have of working at Disneyland.

It looks like they couldn’t figure out what to put in the beginning of the ride. I love Pirates of the Caribbean I’m glad they kept the original ride towards the end.
Your videography was VERY well done as you moved your camera so fluently along with the boat. You didn't "swing it around" like many might have done, keeping the ride as if it were being seen by us, the viewer. Very Well Done sir!

Thanks for sharing this. Visiting DL was nearly a yearly event for us when my kids were growing up. Throughout the years I must have visited every part of the park. Pirates ride was and continues to be a favorite. At time stamp 8:50 when the seller yells at the lady "show us your ..". It also used to add something like "no reason to show your superstructure". Perhaps they have removed this dialogue but I found it to be amusing. I think at the same location there was a well dressed mannequin that would tug at her skirt pulling it up. That too seems to be missing.

The bayou scene at the beginning is much too light from what I remember. It used to be much more dark and ominous, like it was nightime, which made it easier to see the fireflies. The buildings on fire at the end of the ride seem like glowing projections of fires, in contrast to where it used to look like actual flames coming out of windows. Why change it? Sometimes too much technology screws things up. Everything is too bright which takes away the erieness of the ride. I like my old Pirates better.
Overall, it did seem brighter, and like they introduced more color (noticed it at those first scenes after the drops). Agree the swamp felt different and brighter. Is that a lit up background in the swamp? Also seemed to go faster through the swamp, and maybe the boat moves faster everywhere? Some of the differences may be how the camera picks it up...Anyway, great video and picture quality in the low lighting! Thanks!!
Was there the month Disneyland opened! This was always my favorite!!Looks like they cleaned it up a little. Remove half of the lights and put back all the sparkling gold treasure and skeleton Pirates! Turn up the volume and put back all the animation in the characters. It could also move a little bit more quickly.
I think the camera makes it look much brighter than it actual is, correct? Which is cool for us to see detail, not cool if the ride is now really that bright..
That was a great trip down memory lane. Still pretty much as I remember it. It has been many years since I’ve been there as it just got too expensive. (I live about 60 miles away.) Never realized that was a 15 minute ride. And I will never forget the smell of the place when you first get inside. When I was very little (3 or 4), I was terrified of the ship battle as I hated loud noises and spent that part of the ride with my head in mom’s lap crying. This is my only ‘experience’ with fireflies. BTW, this was superb camera work!

Last time I went to Disneyland was in December 2007 when tickets were around $80, and POTC was always my favorite ride. Great filming! I used to go on the ride about 5-10 times every visit when I was young. There has been some changes. There used to be two big drops and one medium sized at the beginning. During the ship battle before going to town, Jack was originally on the ship ordering the men to fire. He was also featured more throughout the scenes. They also took out my favorite part. The bride auction with a beautiful women dressed in dressed at the center point. The climb up out of the ride used to be a lot longer. The ride back to the queue/island used to be wider. I loved being able to see the candles on the restaurant tables inside. The restaurant that was there was awesome too. Perfect dining by candlelight.
They did take out a lot of Jack. And I liked the bride auction too. Jack is in the barrel instead of a woman. All, well, I won't be going anyway. Too expensive.
From what I read and could see from the video no real changes, just refurbishments were done inside and out. Always one of my favorite rides at Disneyland! 🏴☠️
Yeah, I agree, I rode it last weekend and 3 years ago and it expected some fairly noticeable changes. Overall, there really wasn't (or else my memory is fading, that could be). It was pretty much just replacing run down pieces, adding a new coat of paint and some updated sound. I remember the last time they made changes it was quite noticeable with the market/ladies of the night changes, entry of Jack Sparrow and overall animations. Nothing remotely as noticeable this time.
@@audreyramsey982 If I remember correctly, the pirates were originally auctioning off the townswomen, as well as chasing them around, as opposed to the women chasing the pirates, The one exception being the large woman chasing the skinny pirate. Much more humor to the scene.
I grew up going to Disneyland. This and the Haunted Mansion were always my favorites! I went to DisneyWorld a few years ago, and was so disappointed that their versions were noticeably shorter. The original is still the best! ❤️ Thanks for posting!

Always wished I could get to Disneyland since I was about 6 in 1961. Oh well, I vicariously enjoyed this experience! I watched the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I always though Jack Sparrow was a hoot!
If you're able to you should definitely consider still going. People of all ages visit and there's many accommodations for those who may need assistance. I'm a jaded and cynical grownup yet I have to admit that it's truly a magical place, reminds you to be young of heart. You'll catch yourself feeling just like a kid again. It's worth it!

Looks like they changed it some I can't put my finger on it what's different maybe it was when you go through the town there wasn't as much chaos which I liked it better with all the fires burning and the women being auctioned off you could tell it was before people got so crazy about wokeism and stuff

i would advise against riding "It's a Small World" if you find the pirate song annoying.

Getting rid of the tickets and the ticket books was one of the early first steps in the ruin of Disney.

The whole dang ride is WAY too bright now.
Pretty sure it's just the camera exposure making it brighter. In person it would be darker.

They did take out a lot of Jack. And I liked the bride auction too. Jack is in the barrel instead of a woman. All, well, I won't be going anyway. Too expensive.
There was never 3 drops. I went on this ride the first week it opened and go to DL 2-3 times per year since then.

From what I read and could see from the video no real changes, just refurbishments were done inside and out. Always one of my favorite rides at Disneyland! 🏴☠️
Yeah, I agree, I rode it last weekend and 3 years ago and it expected some fairly noticeable changes. Overall, there really wasn't (or else my memory is fading, that could be). It was pretty much just replacing run down pieces, adding a new coat of paint and some updated sound. I remember the last time they made changes it was quite noticeable with the market/ladies of the night changes, entry of Jack Sparrow and overall animations. Nothing remotely as noticeable this time.
They changed the music during the Ship battle scene with Barbosa
I think the auction looked different.
@@audreyramsey982 If I remember correctly, the pirates were originally auctioning off the townswomen, as well as chasing them around, as opposed to the women chasing the pirates, The one exception being the large woman chasing the skinny pirate. Much more humor to the scene.

I grew up going to Disneyland. This and the Haunted Mansion were always my favorites! I went to DisneyWorld a few years ago, and was so disappointed that their versions were noticeably shorter. The original is still the best! ❤️ Thanks for posting!

Always wished I could get to Disneyland since I was about 6 in 1961. Oh well, I vicariously enjoyed this experience! I watched the first two Pirates of the Caribbean movies. I always though Jack Sparrow was a hoot!
If you're able to you should definitely consider still going. People of all ages visit and there's many accommodations for those who may need assistance. I'm a jaded and cynical grownup yet I have to admit that it's truly a magical place, reminds you to be young of heart. You'll catch yourself feeling just like a kid again. It's worth it!

Looks like they changed it some I can't put my finger on it what's different maybe it was when you go through the town there wasn't as much chaos which I liked it better with all the fires burning and the women being auctioned off you could tell it was before people got so crazy about wokeism and stuff

The original ride was so much better. Disney ef's up everything. They probably screwed up the Blue Bayou restaurant, too.
