Half Life put my Father on gaming, who put my brothers on gaming, who, ultimately, put me on gaming. Half Life is more than a game to me. It’s a symbol of time passing and the advancement of technology. My family eagerly awaited Half Life 3 like everyone else, even me who didn’t fully understand what Half Life was yet. My dad was really upset that episode 3 never came out because of that cliffhanger, and literally never gave up hope. He was convinced it was gonna be a VR title and bought an insane Alienware computer in 2015 just because he thought the new Half life would come out in that timespan (guess he was 5 years early). When I got home in 2019 and checked my feeds to find Valve posted a reveal trailer for a new Half-Life game, I instantly thought of my father and called him, as I lived in a different state. @ooczzy Actually I wouldn't say that long. The voiceactor of Gman and Barney teased "A blast from the past" for the end of this year, so it could be that Valve is actually working on it and planning to tease it at the end of the year.

Valve: "Digital store is the future of PC gaming" Gamers: "No!" Valve: (Launch Half Life 2 with Steam mandatory) Gamers: "...Yes" Valve: "Vr is the future of gaming!" Gamers:"No!" Valve: (Launch Half-Life Alyx exclusively on VR) Gamers: "... Yes"
I mean kudos to Valve for atleast doing the best job possible....I mean they set new bar for FPS games with Half-Life, they evolved further with HL2 (especially with ingame physics) and pioneered the digital store for games and now they set new bar for VR games. So ye I understand completely ppl are still pissed off this is VR game only, but if Valve compromised and not designed it fully from VR perspective, it likely would not satisfy fully either VR or non VR gamers. Lets just hope that Half-Life 3 (assuming they would now one day make it) would be non VR title, cause as great as VR is some people are simply never gonna jump into that due to price + motion sickness.
Yep, that's them alright and it's getting pretty tiresome. Buying a 1000$+ bundle of VR hardware without knowing if it'll be useful in the future is pretty saddening. I'm not prepared to shell out that much dough for a peripheral that: 1) Has only one game that interests me now, 2) Will be obsolete by the time other decent VR experiences come to the market (if they ever come, VR is DEFINITELY not as ubiquitous as the internet was in 2004...). All of this seems forced and I'm disappointed that folks' blind faith to Valve will make them do anything and everything for them (gotta let that Half-Life carrot hang juuuuust high enough).
Kinda helps it could be beat in 7 hours. A 40 hour AAA game might not be the same. Though I hope someday we'll have more AAA games for VR and they will get longer and longer. My biggest issue with VR is some of the best experiences arent even an hour long game and most of the longest don't get to 5 hours usually
@And Jesus Wept they either said that in this video or the one I watched before this. I'm still waiting for my Oculus thats arriving in August. The more time the better for me. lol

@@arnowisp6244 yeah the optimization really surprised me, i only have a 1060 and expected it to run horribly but it still runs almost perfect while boneworks lagged super hard
which is EXACTLY why VR hasnt taken off as it should - lack of proper content combined with high price makes a price of hardware hard pill to swallow. but with full games FINALLY making it on the platform the adoption should go significantly up meaning more customers, meaning more games for the platform ...
They released alyx on 23rd of 3 month.(23/03/2020) Also ,adding all the digits we get 2+3+3+2+2= 12 Also divisible by 3 So HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED (the ending was insane)
~10 hours in, it certainly feels like a game changer. Makes you forget you are standing in your room with a headset on your head. Which is scary and awesome.
Actually it's gaming changer 😅, cause Ima too poor to get vr set with powerfull pc , to play that , but even with ma phone , I was actually impressed by all the possibilities of this game. That is amazing.
VR is already great if you know where to look. But with this game it will be epic in a year or 2. Also, you don't need a Valve Index. A CV1, a Rift S or a Quest with PartyLink are all great.
Luis Gustavo Machado Farias problem is to make it big you can’t expect people to search. Until the hardware and software really breaks through you can’t know how it will end. With titles like this VR can get back on its momentum. Still we need to look back in 10 years and see the curve. Until the sales / income of VR games reach 10% I would not call it mainstream
For those who are concerned about this game not getting a lot of sales, they still have Steam! Which means: They. Don't. Even. Care. They want to push gaming technology to the next level, and they did, look at how many people wishing to get a VR headset since this game was announced. And not only that, with this game, they want to conclude the Half-Life series that they abandon since that cliffhanger. Half-Life: Alyx is just a cherry on top for them.
To corroborate that, when HL2 was released, the sales were not so high due to the demanding requirements. But that was not the point, the point for Valve was to show the possibility of physics in gaming.
@@anderos_oficial Great point! Half Life doesn't seem to focus on selling units and generating revenue. Valve has Steam and some other games like CSGO, DOTA 2, and TF2 for that. It's really cool that Valve focuses on innovation in Half Life instead.
@@anderos_oficial yeah remember that, that was first game that made me upgrade my gpu even the best ati 9800 couldn't play this game more than 20-30 fps..
Y'know, all of this whinning that the game will sell bad because it's on VR reminds me of the exact same thing that people were saying when Half Life 2 was released, that it won't sell copies because no one has a dedicated GPU, and we all can see how bad that game ended up selling. Also, Valve's intention when making half life games (or at least this one) isn't necessarly to make sales, but to revolutionise gaming with the tools at their disposal: they did it with hl1, hl2 with the dedicated GPUs and now with hl:A
Literally I think they were waiting for a 13 years , so VR headsets would be more available for a huge amount of people , so they made a revolutionary with this game, but also a huge amount pf money. If you didn't play any of multiplayer games of Valve , you probably don't know that Gaben is a genuis in making money . . .
It's unbelievable. I opened the Steam discussion boards to see if there's any interesting Alyx mods on the way and all I could find was people complaining about VR exclusivity. Moderation is already blocking the threads.

I’ve watched interviews with Valve, they said Portal was the first idea, but they decided it will be too puke-inducing and went for a Half-Life game instead. I’m sure you can find this interview somewhere, it’s not like they’ve been giving that many of them.
I just downloaded the game a few days ago and I love it. I get so immersed that picking stuff up, throwing it around, reloading my weapons etc that it seems second nature like you are really there.
They had 13 years of hype, and infinite requirement to innovate. They had to break new ground, and make it better than you ever dreamed. And they did it... They did it...
This game will honestly be in the video game history books. It's the VR game that actually feels like a game, with so much polish and detail; I can't wait to get an index once it becomes more available for the masses.

Half life games are specifically meant for breaking the boundaries according to valve. If it isn’t pushing the limits they said that they just scrap the idea
For those worried 12 hours doesn't seem long enough, don't worry. If you really take your time, smell the roses, mess around, do things like retry fights multiple times to see how you can approach them differently to conserve ammo, whatever you can really extend it. I'm 13 hours in and I don't think I'm anywhere close to finished. Some say it has little replayability but I refuse to give into that thought. Its just so enjoyable I never want to stop playing. This makes me feel like I did when I first played the original mario bros. Just never wanted to put it down and was satisfied to keep playing and playing and make new goals like flawless speed runs.
I love the gun handling in this game. The feeling when you run out of bullets and two headcrabs are jumping your way is intense like nothing I have experienced in VR to date. Getting comfortable with reloading quickly is essential and so much fun! Also, for anyone wondering: It works flawlessly on the Oculus Quest using ALVR ove 5Ghz Wifi.

Valve: (Launch Half-Life Alyx exclusively on VR)
Gamers: "...
@@YouCanCallMeMich In other words you are poor and salty you dont have vr?

This is what happens when developers take their time to develop and deliver a great product.
And don't have to care about money. That's a big part.

Which is scary and awesome.
Actually it's gaming changer 😅, cause Ima too poor to get vr set with powerfull pc , to play that , but even with ma phone , I was actually impressed by all the possibilities of this game. That is amazing.
Apart from considering. Will you get a VR set though? (Just checking)
Also, Valve's intention when making half life games (or at least this one) isn't necessarly to make sales, but to revolutionise gaming with the tools at their disposal: they did it with hl1, hl2 with the dedicated GPUs and now with hl:A
@ooczzy yeah, that's their mistake internally because they didn't think they'd need to prepare more indexes when they announced hl:a
Literally I think they were waiting for a 13 years , so VR headsets would be more available for a huge amount of people , so they made a revolutionary with this game, but also a huge amount pf money. If you didn't play any of multiplayer games of Valve , you probably don't know that Gaben is a genuis in making money . . .
Steam was the revolution for hl2, not GPUs, they existed pre hl1 and were common in most “gaming” computers before 1998.
It's unbelievable. I opened the Steam discussion boards to see if there's any interesting Alyx mods on the way and all I could find was people complaining about VR exclusivity. Moderation is already blocking the threads.
@ooczzy I got a second hand CV1 a few months ago and it works great. I wouldn't wait to get an Index. It's a gread device, but basically $ 600 extra so you can flash hand signs.
