Theheroneeded Willette that’s exactly what I think. He set that up as a way to have leverage over Alyx, and because he exists outside of time, used Alyx freeing him in the past to show his employers that Alyx is useful even without Gordon.
The G-Man is like Dr. Manhattan, he sees time and all possible outcomes, so he knew he had to get Alyx to White Forest, and when she was a child he saw the future and how helpful she could be.

In an interview with the creators they said that they would like to make more Half Life games but it depended on the reception of this game... I'd say the reception has been PRETTY positive. HL3 confirmed!
Not that simple. Assembling many people for a project like that is hard, especially with Valve’s corporate structure and many various priorities. In Final Hours, they echoed the same thoughts of hesitation.
@@jamesbryan287 There is no confirmation on that wtf lol? Closest thing to that is some valve employees saying they're a little skeptical on vr but still very happy to be working on it.
With this ending we can confirm/speculate a few things: 1. Marc Laidlaw's "Epistle 3" (the story line for HL2: Episode 3 that he leaked in 2017) has been mostly, if not entirely, scrapped. Not a shock really. 2. Since it seems they captured him and had him contained, it is safe to with some certainty that the G-Man does NOT work for the Combine, as some theories have speculated 3. Possibly, the G-Man's "employers" are direct enemies of the Combine, and that the Combine are aware of their plans. (Perhaps another rival trans-dimensional empire?) This ending plus the vague statements made by Dr. Breen in Half Life 2 some what confirm this. 4. The G-Man is aware of future events. This is going to energize the "G-Man is future Gordon" theories even further. Either way, this is a huge plot twist that not even M. Night Shyamalan could have come up with.
Myne1001 I really believe that G-Man wasn’t captured by the combine. With the power that he has it wouldn’t seem likely that he would of been caught unless under his own will. It was mostly likely a ruse to bait Alyx into meeting him. It seems that the events of HL:A was to just show to his employers that she is more valuable of an asset than Gordon is. (If you recall Gman’s speech from EP2 his employers had doubts about Alyx but he learned to quell such “naysayers”) Gordon isn’t reliable due to Vortigants being able to intercept his stasis, which pisses Gman off. So he wants to cash in on Eli’s debt by claiming Alyx as his new pawn. Eli’s debt to the Gman was keeping her Alive during the events of Half-Life 1. Gman can’t have full control of someone unless they are consenting to it. So that’s why in EP2 he instructs Gordon one final time to see that he brings Alyx safely to white forest so the event of Eli’s death can transpire. (Eli’s death may have been some in part nudged by Gman) Gman wants to use this moment to convince Alyx to work for him. Hence why he has her kill the advisor to therefore trick her into employment. The post credit scene is basically the effects to Alyx being put in stasis, she basically disappeares from that moment so all the events can come full circle. A subtle but not so subtle retcon.
@@pipp972 that was the end of HL2, but yes you are right. He may have been captured, or let himself be captured. If he really does have the ability to see in to the future, I could see him letting the Combine capture him because he knows Alyx will free him. I personally think its the former.
I have a feeling the real opponent here, despite all, is actually the GMan's employers. Hear me out: Half-Life 1 started off with surviving onslaughts of alien armies until we learn that they are being controlled, and it wants Earth. As we come to find out, it turns out the vortigaunts were pretty damn inoffensive and vulnerable despite being incredibly powerful. In HL2, we start off with rebelling vs the Combine and, again, it is discovered that there is a supreme intelligence behind it all who wants to control our Earth's localised Universe despite having taken over countless dimensions, and again these local forces where nothing but modified humans and what appeared to be the Combine's atom-sized tip of the spear. It's almost as if the Combine themselves were busy elsewhere, even running away or perhaps mounting up not an offensive but a defensive against a coming storm and they will do everything in order to hold it back. This including of course, and not limited to, anhiliating entire species and universes in order to gain as much available ressources and tech to fulfill this goal. Perhaps, despite themselves being despicable in every way and sense, are a force of "Order" to an upcoming tidal wave of horror. It also appears that Xen was an important key to these...Employers' end goal, as it is essentially the hallway to the many broom closets that we call universes. Since it appears that the GMan CAN be halted by Vortigaunts' powers, Nihilianth was the only force capable of forcing them away, but since his death they now control Xen thus having access to everything! What I am suggesting is that the ACTUAL threat has got to do something with the titular name of the series: Half-Life (I am not gonna go in detail of what this means), and that the Combine are now powerless to fight back the Employers so it is now up to Humanity and the Vortigaunts to figure out something. Really sorry if this is convoluted... tl;dr: you thought the Combine were bad, but the REAL baddies are these Employers of the GMan, who himself is their harbinger of what's to come, and Humanity and Vorties are currently their greatest threat to their end goals. Also, the Combine were super dimensional fascists, but they were preparing of what's to come.
*PLOT TWIST* THERE IS NO HALFLIFE 3 HALFLIFE ALYX TIMELINE WAS IN BETWEEN OF HL AND HL2. Proof? The alyx in "halflife alyx" doesnt know Gordon. Half life 2 on the other hand shows alyx and Gordon known each other. So basically half life alyx is just filler for hl 2 or it is not canon at all.
@@arg7380 You are mistaken. When you first meet Alyx in HL2 when she beats up the CP guards, she says: "Gordon Freeman I presume". This means she never knew Gordon in the first place. This is still stands, since she saw Gordon right now, in shadow, she didn't see his face.
I just realized, if project borealis is still gonna be made. Then that means we're gonna get both endings to the Half Life series, the version where eli dies and the version where he survives
The way i see it, all the events of HL: Alyx happen after Ep2 from G-Man's point of view. He changed the past so he could let himself get imprisoned and prove that Alyx was a valuable asset for his employers. Not only that, but he also set up Eli's death so he could use it to convince Alyx to work with him.
If Gman is omnipresent (as it's pretty damn clear) that's not really possible You can see it as you want it since he can be in any point in time and space but I think it happened in its sequence 1, 1.5, 2 Gman knew that he had to do something to get Alyx hired so he (as he said) showed her the future and saved her dad and so two timelines merged, we're now in episode 2 but Gman is here and Alyx is gone Everything happened in two separate timelines, one in which 1.5 didn't happen and one in which it did, they just merged because Gman wanted it to be Or it can be your way and Gman foresaw that he'd likely need Eli to die in order to hire Alyx and then went back to the past (but as I said I don't like this option since it downgrades Gmans omnipresence abilities)
@@jeffreyandia5179 I like that G-man isn't fully omnipresent - and it's implied even in the game that removing the combine, for example, are too large a "nudge". Similarly in EP1/2 the Vorts free Gordon from his contract and G-man has to work around them

@@whiskey419 Marc Laidlaw said that the expansion packs (OpFor,Blue Shift) were nothing canon, nor non-canon. In effect, they can pick and choose what elements they want to be canon in the future.
So to make sense of this: this means the original ending to HL2: Episode 2 took place in a possible future that was prevented from existing when Alyx freed G Man. That’s the only explanation that prevents a time paradox. This means the ending from 2007 (where Eli is killed) was not the true future that actually happened, and was just a glimpse of the future that would happen if she hadn’t taken the deal, so the Half Life 2: Episode 2 we played took place in an alternate timeline. And so that means that Alyx still fought in the resistance and tagged alongside Gordon until that encounter in the hangar, where she disappeared because G Man finally took her. Because G Man letting her save Eli is considered a nudge, this implies Eli was extremely important to defeating the Combine. This is the only explanation that doesn’t create plot holes. This doesn’t change the events of Half Life 2 or the episodes at all, only what actually happened in the last two minutes. The only thing that’s unclear is what happened to Alyx right after she let G Man out (like after she saved her father and completed the deal). She still had to exist for more years and set in motion the events of Half Life 2 and the episodes. I’d assume she was let out from his dimension right after that and eventually told her dad. I just think Eli (and maybe even Alyx) didn’t know she’d be taken, which explains the “unforeseen consequences”. That was my theory for how they might explain it. Maybe this was just a Valve retcon in the story and we’re just supposed to ignore the implications it has to the world and time? Maybe it’ll be explained away as the G Man tampering with the past to test Alyx for his employers, creating a time paradox where the two timelines contradict. As long as it doesn’t contradict or canonically eliminate the events/accomplishments of past games, I’m fine.
I think it’s pretty clear that G-Man exists outside of time, and perceives it differently from humans, just like the Vortigant. G-Man has always had an interest in Alyx, and the original Ep 3 actually ended in a similar way to this, with Alyx being hired by the G-man and Gordon being “fired”. I think he set up Eli’s death so he could have leverage over Alyx, and then used her freeing him from the prison as an example to his employers that she’s useful, even without Gordon. (Remember, G-man hints in HL2 that his employers have doubts about Alyx).
I think the coolest outcome would be if this hints at G Man as a villain. I want to know more about the G Man and the inter dimensional dealings of the multiverse.
Actually (as they mention in this video), Eli knows about Gman because he was the one who delivered the Xen crystal to Black Mesa, and the one who saved Alyx from Black Mesa when she was a child.
13 years ago: Unforseen consequences: Eli's death Now: Unforseen consequences: Gman giving Alyx ability to saving her father but also taking her away for showing her "decisivness"
yeah, that's why I think he didn't meant the G man when he said "he took her". Cause in the scene the G man was just casually standing there, and walked off. I think IGN is wrong again.
White Rabbit no they aren‘t wrong, IGN and/or eli are not saying that he physically kidnapped her or anything. He just teleported her away or something like that. You know, something gman would do
@@1lucia yes they are wrong, Eli even looked in G mans direction while he was shouting about "he took her", and said he is going to kill him. If he saw G man, then he wouldn't rant at Grodon but rather try to kill G man. Also Eli doesn't even know that the G man exists.
As far as I remember, one of these was farther than the other and it escaped as soon as Dog arrived. It must have escaped after Alyx fried the one with her father
Hachu Eli also wasn't wearing the Harvard shirt under his jacket in EP2, he wore a checkered one instead, I think you might be onto something with the simulation theory
They removed it last minute. The files for the animations are still there. Valve news network and some talented people are working on reconstructing them. Soooo much was cut from this game.
does the ending confirm that every time we see the G-Man he's nudging something ? because if he is that means he's a time traveler changing tiny little details until he finally gets the result he wants
then we get another caveat with the fact that he occasionally disagrees with his employers such as when he decided to save Alex and her father from black Mesa
G-Man is actually standing to the left when Eli hands you your crowbar. He slowly walks away almost as of he's making sure everything is going according to a plan we probably yet do not know about. I'm calling it right now, G-Man is part of the problem.
So that means that after freeing the Gman and saving her father. Alyx wakes up not remembering the conversation she had there, and continues her life until the end of HL2ep2 ? Or it's something else ?
It's definitely something else. I think The Alyx you play with in HL: Alyx will be in stasis for some time like Shepherd is now. Which means in HL3, You as Gordon will go save the same in Alyx in HL2/HLEP1/HLEP2. The characters in HL3 are the same in HL2. They have no idea about the events in HLA: Alyx which means Alyx in Hl3 will have no idea she fought in another parallel universe to save her dad in her other universe.
@@NassimSYD Then HL2 through E2 couldn't have happened as it did. Unless you implement multiple timelines and I tell you: you do not want to do that if you can explain it otherwise. If the Zelda franchise is something to go by.
@@QuestGamerable yeah It'll be about 6 months for me, but this looks like a must play. I'm sure valve knows that sales for this game will trickle in more over time.
In my opinion Gman wiped her memory of their conversation and brought her back so that the HL2 can take place . Although she may have some glimpses of that but not complete talk . After the events of HL2:Ep2 Gman took her away to finish his tasks (as vortigons saved him from Gman). To avoid time paradoxes maybe he wiped her memory and it's just a big test to see her potential . And as 2 Alxes can't exists in a same time & space ( physics ) he may put her mind inside a vortigon to kill that advisor ( the killing animation of the advisor is same as a vortigon shot ) .Maybe the part where Eli dies ( in ep2) is just a fabrication to hire Alex . This way there will be no time loop or time paradoxes . Sorry for the spellings I don't know how to spell many of them .
@@roger5555ful Mr Gabe is really interested in Brain computer interface so it will not be a surprise to see a half-life installment on that technology . If that's the case mabe another 12 to 15 years . Half-life is a series to showcase the technology for next generation gaming .
I think i have another theory, it couldve been possible that half life alyx was used to tie the two endings in half life one together. As the gman said that gordon was unwilling to cooperate. In half life one, if you were not to go into the portal given by the gman, you would be sent to death by tens to hundreds of grunts and gman said that gordon would not be "working together" as in cooperate. So maybe by freeing gman and killing the advisor, maybe gman tried to merge the two timelines together to create 1 single timeline. Thats why hl2 ep 2 alyx and hl: A alyx were both taken by gman, as to merge them together.
Look, I love that Half-Life Alyx is in Vr, and the Technology of it is so cool! But as someone who a diehard Half-Life fan, and cannot afford a VR headset and won't be able to anytime soon, Half-Life 3 better not be in VR. I tore me apart that I had to watch someone else play this amazing game and watch the plot like e a movie, and not be apart of it.

>G-man is separated from Gordon by the Vortigaunts. >G-man tells Gordon to get Alyx to White Forest and Alyx to tell Eli to prepare for Unforseen Consequences. >Gordon and Alyx arrive at White Forest, Alyx relays the message. >G-man tips off the Advisors to Eli's location so they kill him. >G-man goes back in time 5 years and gets himself captured by the Combine in a big scary vault to lure in Alyx. >Alyx goes to the vault and frees G-man, he trades her freedom for Eli's life in the future, then hires her. >Alyx wakes up immediately after with no memory of meeting G-man. >5 years pass, events of Half-Life 2 and the episodes take place. >G-man & past Alyx appear just before Eli's death, save him, and disappear with current Alyx. "Unforseen Consequences" indeed...
The "Unforeseen Consequences" isn't just a reference towards Episode 2, it's also one towards the original Half-Life, as G-Man also told Eli before the Resonance Cascade to "Prepare for unforeseen consequences".
Some problems I have: We never see HD Doctor Kleiner, which means we never see HD Lamarr, which makes me very sad. That’s about it. I loved the game so much, and the ending was perfect.
Just finished the game and loved the ending. I'm excited for an another Half-Life game and hoping it'll be another VR iteration with you playing as Gordon. The people at Valve did a great job and was beautifully done.
At 1:25 that "unknown human" is Dr Mossman. Eli's girlfriend and ex Black Mesa scientist who betrays the resistance to work as a spy for the combine. Also, to explain the time travel thing: I'm pretty sure this is not just time travel but also has to do with alternate universes... Let me explain. By rewatching G-man as he talks to alex there are 3 moments where he splits off from himself: 1) "My employers believe that the fate of our worlds is inflexible" - He splits off into many Gmen to prove that there are many paths can be created and/or every choice creates multiple realities. 2) "They authorise me to nudge things in a particular direction " - One Gman keep going forward and disappears, while the other stops, meaning time within one reality can be altered. 3)"I want the combine off earth" - One Gman splits off as if to consider or to enact the request, creating an alternate reality, while one stays to tell Alyx that this is too big of a nudge.

VR offers a lot more options in Gameplay, and a lot more immersion. HL3 will probably be in VR, since all HL games are innovations in their own rights. This is confirming either episode 3 or Half Life 3. They can't leave it at that, it is simply implied that the story now will continue with Gordon Freeman aka Half Life 3.
After over analyzing the G-man scene , I don't think that he was kept inside as a prisoners by the combine, he is an inter-dimensional being , and probably more powerful then the combine, I think that alyx finding him there was part of of his plan or , his employer's plan , that explained why he saved her from black messa incident
@@thetimelords911 Because he said in another monologue that he always believed in her usefullness, it's why he saved her and would later test her abilities.
@EA -Sports But the events leading up to Eli's death would have already shown that Alyx had potential to Gman, making the time travel pointless, no? Or am I missing something?
@EA -Sports I did some digging, and I found an explanation that makes a bit of sense as a grand-unifying lore explanation: "Gman just happens to be a master manipulator of time. Gordon failed him by breaking the stasis in EP1 when he was to abide by certain restrictions. So, he decides to cash in on Eli’s debt by claiming Alyx as his new pawn. Baiting her to the vault in the events of this game to show his employers her worth (if you recall his speech from EP2 his employers had doubts about her), he was able to trick her into his control by having him give her the ability to save her father when he shows her Eli’s death. That’s why Gman gives Gordon a final instruction to bring her to White Forest in EP2, so he can use that moment to bait alyx. Explains why she just disappears in the post credit scene because in the end of HL:A she is put in stasis. Unforeseen Consequences of Eli bargaining with the Gman during HL1 to keep Alyx alive." Its basically just some common time travel voodoo lol
If you think about it, the G Man being in there at all foreshadows even his inability to stop the Combine if they have the tech to lock him up. So it makes complete sense that he said it was too big a task to remove the Combine. Either that or there’s nothing Alyx can give back to compensate
For anybody confused about how Alyx was in Half Life 2 not in stasis, basically all the events you see take place from half life to half life episode 2, but the moment the advisor is killed, that is when she is taken away. That is where the new episode 3 starts.

@@Myne1001 he was waiting to prove that Alyx is greater than Gordon
I think epistle 3 is the continuation of episode 2 if alyx did not accept the deal gman offered

Ding ding ding
This is the take that makes the most sense to me having beat the game
If Gman is omnipresent (as it's pretty damn clear) that's not really possible
You can see it as you want it since he can be in any point in time and space but I think it happened in its sequence 1, 1.5, 2
Gman knew that he had to do something to get Alyx hired so he (as he said) showed her the future and saved her dad and so two timelines merged, we're now in episode 2 but Gman is here and Alyx is gone
Everything happened in two separate timelines, one in which 1.5 didn't happen and one in which it did, they just merged because Gman wanted it to be
Or it can be your way and Gman foresaw that he'd likely need Eli to die in order to hire Alyx and then went back to the past (but as I said I don't like this option since it downgrades Gmans omnipresence abilities)
@@jeffreyandia5179 I like that G-man isn't fully omnipresent - and it's implied even in the game that removing the combine, for example, are too large a "nudge". Similarly in EP1/2 the Vorts free Gordon from his contract and G-man has to work around them
You're probably right, but that's just so dumb from a writing standpoint. Why needlessly retcon the cliffhanger we've been waiting over a decade to see resolved through some hand-wavey, convoluted time travel shenanigans?

"Ending Explained"
Retelling the whole game plot briefly
Well technically the truth
Yeah but they didn't explain what happened to Alyx in pre HL2 timeline? Did Gman wipe her memory?
IGN videos... :-\
Borsalino Kizaru Yes sir! Exactly.

Woah, pretty far fetched but interesting!

>G-man & past Alyx appear just before Eli's death, save him, and disappear with current Alyx.
"Unforseen Consequences" indeed...
This ending is one of the best things I've seen in gaming. It literally couldn't have been better. I can't wait for HL3.
Half-Life 3,Doom Eternal and Halo Infinite...
The holy trinity...is now complete
Damn.Finally half life 3.
You can also see Gman walking off in the ending if you look to the left.
The "Unforeseen Consequences" isn't just a reference towards Episode 2, it's also one towards the original Half-Life, as G-Man also told Eli before the Resonance Cascade to "Prepare for unforeseen consequences".
Some problems I have:
We never see HD Doctor Kleiner, which means we never see HD Lamarr, which makes me very sad.
That’s about it. I loved the game so much, and the ending was perfect.
Depending on if you put Lamar in the rocket, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Lamar anytime soon..
The ending is helf life 3
Next half-life game will be after 15 more years on brain computer interface gaming.
When he talked about a new person, I was thinking. "SHEPHARDS BACK!" but then.....
By rewatching G-man as he talks to alex there are 3 moments where he splits off from himself:
1) "My employers believe that the fate of our worlds is inflexible" - He splits off into many Gmen to prove that there are many paths can be created and/or every choice creates multiple realities.
Yep, HL3 retcons Bioshock Infinite confirmed?
Valve: Releases HL:A
Plot: *Universally Expanded*
I know we were to prepare for unforeseen consequences, but I didn't think this is what we all had foreseen. Damn, I think none of us saw this coming.
I just finished playing HL: Alyx today and I am blown away. What an incredible unbelievable experience playing that game was. One of the best games I’ve ever played in my life. I didn’t want the game to end. Hopefully HL3 does happen and if it’s in VR that would be awesome. Valve is one of if not the best developer companies ever!
What people don't get about HL3 is that (almost) every half life was valve flexing it's technology, Half Life being it's NPC's, Half life 2 being it's Physics and Graphics And Half Life: Alyx, IS THAT IT IS IN VR!!
Next step is AI
the ending is perfect really i love how it ties all the games together
"They had a difficulty replacing him"
😭 my dream of playing as shephard again dies in screams...
Sadece shephard a bie gönderme yapsalar eski bir shephard fotoğrafıyla yada biri dese eskiden burda shephard adında bir asker yaşardı diye. Bir confirmation yeterdi. Resmen oyunun gordon kadar badass tek karakteri silindi gitti.
4:13 look who we have here, at the top left corner...
OMG
I'm so damn glad Eli's back! He's a great character.
I hated it when I died in episode 2. It left me in utter shock.
To know he lives warms my stone cold heart!
But in reality eli dies
To end the cliffhanger with another cliffhanger
Gabe is 59 now, alright, release the 3-rd part in your 70-s...
4:49 You can see G-Man looking over the events on top of the railing on upper left corner of the screen.
I just hope HL3 isn't VR, because cutting out such a large number of us who can't afford to get VR for one game isn't a smart move. Esp since some of us, like myself have been around since HL1 waiting for the story to continue.
VR offers a lot more options in Gameplay, and a lot more immersion. HL3 will probably be in VR, since all HL games are innovations in their own rights. Alyx is very innovative, and I have no doubts HL3 will be, too! I understand the lowest price of a VR headset + Controllers is around $230, but the release of this game is sure to lower it.
*At the end* when you look to your left in the hangar, the Gman is there staring at you!!
(You can see his silhouette at 4:13)
It’s been 4ish years since this video, still no half life 3
This is confirming either episode 3 or Half Life 3. They can't leave it at that, it is simply implied that the story now will continue with Gordon Freeman aka Half Life 3.
I just realized, isn't that Vortigaunt electricity?
After over analyzing the G-man scene , I don't think that he was kept inside as a prisoners by the combine, he is an inter-dimensional being , and probably more powerful then the combine, I think that alyx finding him there was part of of his plan or , his employer's plan , that explained why he saved her from black messa incident
The G-Man created a genius trap.
Could you elaborate a bit? How does this event explain why he saved her
@@thetimelords911 Because he said in another monologue that he always believed in her usefullness, it's why he saved her and would later test her abilities.
@EA -Sports But the events leading up to Eli's death would have already shown that Alyx had potential to Gman, making the time travel pointless, no? Or am I missing something?
@EA -Sports I did some digging, and I found an explanation that makes a bit of sense as a grand-unifying lore explanation:
"Gman just happens to be a master manipulator of time.
Unforeseen Consequences of Eli bargaining with the Gman during HL1 to keep Alyx alive."
Its basically just some common time travel voodoo lol
So many people have died while waiting for this moment
If you think about it, the G Man being in there at all foreshadows even his inability to stop the Combine if they have the tech to lock him up. So it makes complete sense that he said it was too big a task to remove the Combine. Either that or there’s nothing Alyx can give back to compensate
For anybody confused about how Alyx was in Half Life 2 not in stasis, basically all the events you see take place from half life to half life episode 2, but the moment the advisor is killed, that is when she is taken away. That is where the new episode 3 starts.
