  • The Audi E-Tron Sportback EV is a fully electric family SUV that looks good and comes equipped with a lot of toys. But is this the kind of car you should be buying. Drew Stearne has taken it out for a review drive to tell you just that.

      Has to be the normal one as the sportback looks a little "squat". Also due to the premium over the normal one. (edit) if I could afford one, I'm about 6-7years of depreciation of being able to afford one!!!

    We have an Etron and a Model X. If you put the drive mode on the Etron into "S" (pulling back a second time on the shifter) it makes the throttle response almost instant. It feels slightly less instantaneous than the Model X, but very close. It terms of ride quality and build quality however, there is no comparison between the Model X and the Etron. The Etron is superb. Also, the Etron chargers significantly faster on the high speed chargers. It can hold a much higher charging rate all the way to 80% versus the Tesla throttling significantly after 50%.
    Overall we have be extremely happy with our Etron.

      According to Car&Driver, they measured the E-Tron Sportback being 63dB at 70mph, and the Model X being 65dB at 70mph.
      Doesn't sound like a big difference, but since the dB scale is logarithmic (50dB is 10x as loud as 40dB, 70dB is 10x as loud as 60dB) a 2dB difference is big.

    • @michealsquire8529
      @michealsquire8529 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CrazyWeeMonkey A 10dB difference in Sound Pressure Level is actually 3.16x. 20dB is 10x. 6dB is double. 2dB is about 1.25x. Human hearing perception of sound is not linear, so a change from 50dB to 70dB would not appear to be 10 times as loud. A change from 63dB to 65dB would barely be noticeable to most people.

    One of the biggest issues with electrification right now is battery technology. They are still very heavy, require damaging resources to manufacture, and degrade quickly. Even using renewable energy sources like solar and wind are problematic because it's difficult to store the electricity using current battery technology.

They eventually want complete automonous vehicles so you don't even drive it yourself you don't go where the government don't want you to and all conversations in the vehicle will be recorded and retrievable aswell as cameras THIS is where this is heading it has NOTHING to do with the environment this is the biggest con next to covid-19 you mark my words!

      This is a questionable comment. "Damaging resources?" Regular car manufacture also requires - what I think you're referring to... toxic substances in the manufacture. "Very heavy" is subjective when such a car can show performance akin to a sports car. A bit heavier but not a lot more 500-600 pounds in most cases. Check weights on luxury sedans and the Model S and Model 3. And batteries do not "degrade quickly." I'd like a reference there because everything I've read shows just the opposite - especially if you charge 15% through 85/90% most of the time. Which can be controlled by the car - at least on a Tesla. Tesla degradation has been about 12.5% after 150,000 - 200,000 miles. Not sure about other cars but probably good as well. Your last statement is old news. And it wouldn't matter about an ecar's usefulness. Read around - current heavy duty industrial/utilitybattery tech - mostly Li-ion is being installed at generating plants and renewable sites around the world. Just the beginning. Other forms of energy storage are also being used. So, just not true anymore. The trend is toward much better storage for renewable generated power on off hours of generation. Me thinks this poster hasn't done the research.

    The e-mirrors would have the potential to vastly improve blind spots around the A-pillar; many current mirrors are large enough to hide a small family crossing a crosswalk. But I am curious if the inside screens suffer from the need to re-focus the eyes when viewing them. For example, the new LR Defender's windscreen camera-mirror option does suffer from this, and invokes a second of vertigo when glancing at it....

Yes real mirrors get glare but they're still safer and more intuitive.

    Love this style of mindful reporting. The impact of global scale battery production to push the electrification agenda doesn't make for a compelling case for the environment. The whole idea of cars as viable transportation isn't that old that we actually can totally relinquish and make the shift without it, for that is the needed solution. But only if we truly understand what's at stake for the world we live in. Ignorance is as they say bliss, but even ignorance by itself is an unsustainable way of living. Personal fuel combustion engines has always been an unsustainable idea from the beginning, and we're seeing the impact as we live. Futurists now paint a way of living, that if mankind should continue the way we operate as we do now, a form of future so inorganic that is difficult for me to accept. I wouldn't want to deny my children of proper air to breathe, greenery to surround them etc by justifying my life now, for I'd look like someone who is totally utterly irresponsible.

    Personally I think electric cars now are like how digital cameras were in the early 2000s. When digital cameras came out, they were interesting, and good to have as a backup to a traditional camera, but they couldn't compete on quality & real photographers would never use them. Now, 20 years later, digital cameras are ubiquitous, and can be used in ways a traditional camera never could. The same thing will happen with electric cars

      His point was, the bulk of the weight is low down ,so the centre of gravity is low.

    Now let audi make the rsE-tron and E tron gt and rsE-tron gt / coupe.. But atleast audi doesn't make confusing names like porsche panamera long name thingy or porsche taycan turbo s even though it doesn't have a turbo. They should have gone with a name like porsche taycan hybrid s or hybrid ss with their performance variants.

    • @JTM610
      @JTM610 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First off, Audi A6 Avant 55 TFSi E quattro isn't much shorter than any Panamera variant name.
      Secondly, there's nothing confusing about the Porsche nomenclature. "4" for allwheeldrive, "S" for Sport, "E" for electric, "GTS" for the V8 variant GranTourismoSport and Turbo for the most powerful Panamera.
      Third, nearly every Porsche is turbocharged and they still mostly do not have "Turbo" in their name.
      And lastly, "Hybrid", really? The Taycan is pure electric, not a mixture of two different engine concepts, so bad idea.
