Lyrics Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue Thought I heard you talking softly I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio Still I can't escape the ghost of you What has happened to it all? Crazy, some'd say Where is the life that I recognize? Gone away But I won't cry for yesterday There's an ordinary world Somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way To the ordinary world I will learn to survive Passion or coincidence Once prompted you to say "Pride will tear us both apart" Well, now pride's gone out the window Cross the rooftops Run away Left me in the vacuum of my heart What is happening to me? Crazy, some'd say Where is my friend when I need you most? Gone away But I won't cry for yesterday There's an ordinary world Somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way To the ordinary world I will learn to survive Papers in the roadside Tell of suffering and greed Fear today, forgot tomorrow Ooh, here besides the news Of holy war and holy need Ours is just a little sorrowed talk And I don't cry for yesterday There's an ordinary world Somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way To the ordinary world I will learn to survive Every world Is my world (I will learn to survive) Any world Is my world (I will learn to survive) Any world Is my world
"Ordinary World" traces an emotional and philosophical journey that, through grief, reflects the struggle between clinging to the past and accepting a transformed reality. From psychoanalysis, it represents an attempt at integration and acceptance of loss; From philosophy, the song becomes an existential search for meaning and authenticity, despite absence and suffering. It is a narrative of both emotional reconciliation and rediscovery of oneself in a world that is perceived to be transformed. Brillant song! Pure art.
When you hear a song it triggers your memory when you first heard it where you were the feelings that you had at the time the people that were with you
The older i get the more the lyrics hit home, absolute beast of a song and absolutely soul cleansing, when i listen to it the dam wall breaks and the tears flow.
We lost Mum a few weeks ago at 60, Duran Duran was her favourite band ever, and this song has so, so many connections for us to remember her by. RIP Mum xx
When we lose someone we love so much, or go through something that is so hard and a loss, this song tells us what to do. We must find the ordinary world and somehow relearn how to survive. What a gift.
Yes!!! Made me cry, but with those bittersweet tears of nostalgia and true love... Maybe it's just fondness of being young, but on the other hand - I've never felt lonelier than I do today, in my late forties, while I was shunned as a teen by practically everyone. But I had THOSE STUNNING DEEP THINGS, true gifts from MTV: great music and artful, insightful videos....

I know this song isn’t about divorce but I was going through one in 1993. I don’t cry for yesterday…I made my way to the ordinary world. Thank you, and I send love to all who read this - Sept 2024.
Agree Joe… Just heard this song now for the 1st time in a LONG TIME….. LOW KEY, This song is an absolute classic and highly underrated IMO and RIGHT NOW is my fav. Duran Duran (and Duran Duran has ALOT of great songs)…..
A great song but they had bigger hits like reflex, is there something I should know and hungry like the wolf, though this is the most soul wrenching song they did.
I am so sorry for your losses. Your new normal is never gonna feel normal...it is one you only adjust to on different levels as you go through life... learning to survive trying to make your way to an ordinary world.💜
Memories are precious. She is in your heart. Keep her their. Your new ' ordinary world' won't ever be the same. It stays with through out your life, until the end. Your new normal. Keep the love, and her, in your heart, ALWAYS. Keep the love. She will always be there for you in your heart, your ' ordinary life. Everyone has their ordinary life of loss, of love. God bless you, love & hugs. Keep going. Hang in there. I've lost SO many. I can't even begin,,so I don't,,, 🤗💔❣️
I picked out this song to be played at my dads funeral this past week, it felt appropriate. I’ll always remember the great memories we shared together. I’ll miss you dad! 😢
If I were your dad, I'd be proud that this was the song you picked. It's an extremely meaningful one and a beautiful choice. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you find some semblance of comfort in the fact that others see the beauty in your choice.
In 1993 I was going through a very dark and depressing time in my life. I came across this song and pretty much made it my Mantra. Thank you Duran Duran for writing such an incredible and inspirational song. Love always
This song is another level of music, by far their best. From it's message in the chorus'" I will learn to survive' to the mesmerizing guitar, to Simon Le Bon's perfect falsetto at the end. Simon said this song helped him to recover emotionally from the death of his friend David Miles. Amazing how powerful emotions can bring out greatness!
This song makes me feel so identified and emotional with the final part in which He says " I Will learn to survive ",also makes me cry for what the singer had inside back in the moment.
"And I don't cry for yesterday There's an ordinary world Somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way To the ordinary world I will learn to survive" This may be what everyone of us is feeling about those coronavirus days that seem never end. One of the greatest lyrics and songs from the 90's.
28 years later, and I'm still listening to this amazing song! I came home from my Dad's funeral in 1993, turned on the TV... And this video came on 😢 I was 16 and a half.. prophetic words I thought to myself 💪🏻
I’ve never heard that before. Are you sure that you’re not that wise man? I don’t usually comment on TH-cam videos, but, what you said was actually insightful.
Right before my wife passed away, she made me promise her that I would move on and find happiness again. During the rough years of grieving this song served as a reminder of a promise I made to someone who I love dearly to this day. That was many years ago. Today I have a loving wife and twins in high school. This song now serves as a reminder of a promise kept. This song still makes me cry.
Over the past 40 years many of my friends and family have past away, too many, and the wounds do not heel, but from this sorrow, there is joy, in the bright light of hope, the joy of love I have from our Grand children, they are our world now
When I first heard this song in 1993, I was 15 years old. Although it was my first time listening to it, at some inexplicable level it's as if I had heard it before a 1000 times. It spoke to me in a very deep personal way. As a confused lonely teenager I found comfort in the song and its lyrics. I felt like I didn't belong anywhere, and at the same time I didn't have anyone to share my feelings of alienation. I only had THIS song. The lyrics conveyed my feelings of sadness, fear and hope. I longed so much to find my Ordinary World. As the years went by, and my life continued through its twists and turns, I continued to come back to this song, for comfort, for peace, to grieve, to reminisce, to cherish. One of the things I discovered as I aged and matured was that the Ordinary World I yearned for so long as a teenager, was always here, within me. And thanks to this song, I found it. Thank you so much Duran Duran. This song is a gift. This song is priceless. This song is a masterpiece.
I loss my wife on July 6th of 2023. And lately, this song has been heavily on my playlist. I knew the song spoke to me for a reason. And, doing my research… it all makes sense. Bri, I love you, and I missed you from the deepest end of my heart. Life without you is not the same… but somehow, I have to survive without my love and best friend.
I was dirt poor, hungry, lonely, alone and no one to help me when this song came out and went through my ears to forever in my soul, now I'm quite well taken care of. Never Give Up.
I found my poor sweet big brother dead in his bed on 7/30/20. That was the most devastating day of my life. I don’t remember the first few days after. But the Sunday after I put on my brave face and went to clean out his room and get it ready to be emptied. For some reason the moment I opened his door this song came into my head. I hadn’t thought about or heard it in literal years but there it was strong and clear every note and lyric. I burst into tears with the perfection of how exactly it captured what I’m going through. Thanks Duran Duran. My brother loved this song when we were teens. We both did.
Hello my friend I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, This song is actually about Simon Le Bon‘s friend David Mills who passed away in 1986, it is an absolute fantastic song,You are not on your own i to have lost a brother and a sister, sadly through suicide, they say time is a healer, but it’s not, Time accommodates,I am sending you my love and deepest warmest thoughts of sympathy to you stay strong and be brave 🌹🏴
This song reminds me of my times in the 90’s spent with my father who is no longer with us. Miss him loads but the song brings him back. Truly outstanding.
Yes my uncle would listen to this as I watched himself destruct , after losing his family I used to wonder why he liked this as I was into hard rap ,now I understand ,RIP uncle Paul ,he also liked come undone
It's amazing how a man of a different nationality and from a different continent, with an entirely different lifestyle and life experiences and worldview and character can perfectly encapsulate how you've been feeling for months. Put in to words thoughts that you yourself couldn't. Felt like this was coming out of my own soul while I was listening to it.
I do not know what word you have for the Holy Spirit - but that is who is at work here. Sad and nostalgic and happy and ecstatic are all the same to Him, as all come from love, and God is love...
This song is piece of art. Solo is a masterpiece. Simplicity and outstanding match for the song. It’s 30 years since premiere and it still gives me shivers
I agree with your sentiment, but this song is anything but simple. It has an incredibly complex chord structure and progression and the use of borrowed cords is very unique and bordering on genius.
Came in from a rainy Thursday On the avenue Thought I heard you talking softly I turned on the lights, the TV And the radio Still I can't escape the ghost of you [Pre-Chorus] What has happened to it all? Such a powerful song. The chorus has me thinking of how we all transition out of our youth and into true adulthood. We all have our struggles, but we find our way in the end.
Yes the second half of the chorus symbolises my place in life right now although the last line '...I Will learn to survive' would be converted to a past participle rewording in my case today
Makes me cry every time. I'm 41, I played outside, used payphones when I traveled, was focused on a single task. Today, I see my kids and I try, but they will never know how awesome life was before the internet and cell phones. This song brings all the feels!
I've been an avid Duranie since 1982. This song highlights the poetic genius of Simon le Bon. I have lost both of my parents. My relationship with each could not have been more different. And yet this song feels like it could have been written by me about either death. To write something so personal (as this song was to Simon) and then have millions of others feel like it is so personal to them... well that's a master class in songwriting, friends.
Oh it's you again, Erin? Hello from here as well as in the comment below! Further to my reply below, I am interested to see that you find the song appropriate for thinking about death and loss. So perhaps you do not fully see the joy/ecstasy in the song. Because sadness at loss is love, just as joy is love, the Holy Spirit - who is love and truth combined - is brilliant and all-embracing and magnificent enough to fuse those feelings into one. That is the majesty of it, and it is strong and gentle at the same time, just as it is sad and happy. All fine feelings are in there, and of course that is God...
I first heard this when it was playing in a store while I was shopping. I simply stopped in the.middle of the shop and stood there, stunned. A truly astounding song, so beautiful and a tremendous songwriting achievement. The emotional awareness and feeling are in another dimension.
My wife of 22 years has spent the last month in intensive care battling a serious and life threatening illness! I’m lost without her, this song about loss, hope and the need to carry on resonates with me more than ever at this moment in time. I’m confident she will recover but for now the person I needed the most to get me through tough situations isn’t here and that’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with.
@@prettyhatemachine8887 I am from England, she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder called Guillian barre. It is treatable and she is improving day by day. But in its acute phase it’s a very scary condition and paralysed her breathing muscles.
@@MrKeefelm I'm glad she's recovering, this disorder is not a walk in the park to put it lightly. Did she take the vaccine? There's actually a big increase in Guillain barre cases this year and it's associated with the COVID mRNA vaccines. In fact, there's an increase in all kinds of autoimmune disorders and other unrelated illnesses such as some types of cancer, blood clot related diseases, certain viral diseases and more, and they all seem to be associated with those vaccines.
@@prettyhatemachine8887 She has autoimmune problems already, under active Thyroid and a potential unconfirmed diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis. She is COVID vaccinated but that was months ago. A doctor has potentially put it down a reaction to the Flu vaccine which for some reason is pretty potent this year. My stance on vaccines hasn’t been altered by this, she’s just been very unlucky as this condition is still pretty rare. (Only around a 1000 people a year in the UK) No vaccine claims to be 100% risk free,. However I guess it would be naive to not take a more cautious approach in future.
My husband passed away suddenly last week. 12/22/22. My heart is broken and this song has been on repeat at my house. Except for me it’s while I cry for yesterday. Thank you Duran Duran.
This (divinely-inspired) music will help you focus on loss; but when the time comes it will help you to move on from loss as well. God console you, and be with you, my friend!
I agree. They were one of the best bands of the early to mid 80s. They were considered a bunch of pretty boys but they were also good musicians and songwriters. This was one of their more mature sounding songs but it's still very much them. To me the best pop music was late 70s to early 90s because that's the era I was listening to these as a child and right up until my early 20s so it resonates with me. There's a sadness to this song that is almost like me kissing goodbye to my youth back in 93 from one of my favourite bands of the era.
Definitely my favourite song from Duran Duran. I think in fact this is one of the best and prettiest songs in history of music. Thanx guys for that talent 💙🎻🇬🇧
This song captures the essence of what we all go through in life one way or another, including loss and change, new challenges and old regrets but somehow we will survive! Such a perfect song!
"I will learn to survive"...that's a powerfull sentence for everyone that is going across a loss or a hard time. Life is a mistery and we have to keep on moving.
The melancholy expressed in this song is physically palpable. My heart physically hurts while listening to it, yet I can't stop playing it over and over.
Esa canción se la dedico a mi papá que falleció hace 5 meses, me duele aceptar que ya no este con nosotros, solo espero que este en compania con Dios y mi hermano. 🙏😪💔
My battle to overcome depression and survive and let go of toxic relationships has brought me here. These words " I don't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world ....I will learn to survive" 😌
I was 31 years of age when this song came out, and the same year my wife died. . . . "Where is my friend when I need you most" . . . I thought they wrote this song for me. . . . . . I had to learn to survive! Thank you Duran Duran.
@@stephaniem5091 . . .thank you. No you don't get over, just thru it. . . but the loss is always with you. Wonderful memories today, about the beautiful person that she was. I only wish her son/my son had the time to spend with her. Today he is 31 . . . . the same age I was when she passed. I guess in a selfish way, when she passed I just wanted the world to stop, if only for a second. Looking back, the world has changed so much. And in my own grief, I've been able to take care of others with strength and understanding of how painful life can often be. Again thank you. . .today I am blessed. ✝️
I’m liking this comment because it brought tears too my eyes to read & I agree with you on feeling like it was wrote for you, because I feel it was wrote for me too during a time in my life. Bless you & everyone that goes through pain. Please remember that we have these songs to help us through these times of pain.
@@pup1008 It is. It's a song of loss. The singer has lost someone, someone who was a huge part of their life, and that loss has completely turned their lives upside down. They're struggling to move on, to reach the 'ordinary world', that is, a sense of the normality they had before the loss, and 'learning to survive', that is, figure out how to continue their life without that person in it, but they're not ready yet. They're still grieving, as much as they recognize 'they've somehow got to find' the way back to that 'ordinary world', they can't.
@@GuukanKitsune i ihad no idea with the original release in the 90s that the song was about grief and loss but now all these years later after the recent passing of my father i relate to the lyrics of trying to deal with grief and the process of loss
My Mothers favorite song. She passed away in 2014. Im 49 this year and still think of her often. Spend as much time as you can with your loved one kids.
My son is 12 and loving the classic influence im sharing him. He just admire the music back then than those music now. This is one of the songs I play everytime I drive him to school. *cant believe Im calling it classic now, like really really classic. But this will never get old
This song represents a wonderful era, which no longer exists. Everything has changed, everything is different. Beautiful memories are destined to be lost over time.
The other day, I was thinking about all the missed opportunities for greatness that everyone has missed for all history and was feeling the weight of all that was lost, and then I remembered God. He sent His Son into the world to save everything good that was lost. Everything good is saved and we will find it again when we enter His kingdom. We have a beautiful God.
I’m 34. I always thought of Duran Duran as an ‘80s band, and then this came up on the ‘90s station, on satellite radio. I was like… This is Duran Duran?! It sounds so different from their earlier material. They sold me with this song. This song always puts me into a deep state of thought and reflection. Absolutely beautiful song. Kudos Duran Duran!
Believe me Winton, I was blind but now I see that a bit of the kudos here goes to the Holy Spirit, who both inspired and resides in this music, spreading out to us the mystery of God's love and mercy pervading the universe. Maybe you know instinctively that this is the truth about this music - how else can it be eternal in the way it is? How else can it transcend" How else can it make us feel ecstasy out of melancholy?
@@danholzer4626 Hahaha!!! Absolutely nothing my friend! I was born in the ‘80s. I love ‘80s bands. I was just speaking to how their sound evolved over time. lol.

I am so sorry for the loss of your precious wife! My dear beloved wife passed away almost one year ago after almost 40 years of marriage! The pain fades away but never goes away completely! I will never be the same! The support from my family, my wife's family, my dear friends meant and means a lot to me, I am lucky to have them!
We'd been together 27 years & 2 months when my husband left. The song was unknown to me until a few years after he'd gone and hearing it for the first time made me feel raw again. The words say so much. I wish you all the best in finding your 'ordinary world' and hope it turns out to be as extraordinary as mine did. Our memories and feelings take us here, there and everywhere and after seventeen years I can count all the blessings, including learning valuable lessons from what weren't such good things along the way. I hope you fare very well.
Heard it on my way to work this morning as I grieve for my husband who passed away from covid the end of December. This puts all my feelings in perspective
@@MetalFriscoDude79 You're right! I just Googled and found this: The origins of "Ordinary World" were the results of tragedy: the death of singer Simon Le Bon's good friend, David Miles, of a drug overdose in 1986. “I'm not a big believer in the supernatural, but six years after [my friend's death], I started to feel a weight inside me," Le Bon told Paste in 2017.
I'm always torn between this and Come Undone as their masterpiece- both are probably in the top 10 of best pop songs ever made. Both of these songs were 40 years ahead of their time
One of the best songs ever ❤ I read one of the comments below that it was significant for someone else as well after the loss of an older brother. I also went through the same in 2006 and this song gave me strength due to the lyrics. As I learned to survive without him near me, feeling lost and lonely, this song resonated deeply within my soul ❤
Indeed. However that "ordinary world" has gone forever & is the reason I started listening to this record at this time. Humanity is now at a fork in the road. Do we allow the few to implement their "great reset" or do we say no & choose a different path? Whichever way it goes that *ordinary world" has gone forever & I for one won't miss it.
What has been ordinary about all the years since Adam and Eve..... 🤷♂️... Only one world we all have been seriously looking for........ ✝️📖🕊 The few and only questions of all man kind.
@@kryptofreedommedia1899 I agree! That's the reason I was pulled into listening to this song again after so many years. There's definitely more understanding to this song now.

My mom passed 3 weeks ago. I spent the last nine years looking after her after my younger brother died, through getting cancer, through her getting too old to do the things she used to enjoy and that gave her a sense of freedom. Cancer came and took her at 91 and now I’m lost and rudderless. Just have no purpose or reason to go forward. This song means different things to different people but right now I’m just looking for normal again. I miss my best friend and I feel more alone than I ever have. Came back to listen to this and try to find some motivation. Ours is just a little sorrowed talk, right?
I’m only 19 but this song touches me in ways that others can’t start to. The pain of good memories, but also the hope of better memories that will come my way. It is a song that for me will be timeless. It can be related to by any person that has lived or that has life to live. It is sad yet hopeful. I yearn for my past yet I am hopeful for my future, and it is incredible that a piece of music that was made before my time can do that for me. It is beautiful❤

Lyrics
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio
Still I can't escape the ghost of you
What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is the life that I recognize?
Gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Passion or coincidence
Once prompted you to say
"Pride will tear us both apart"
Well, now pride's gone out the window
Cross the rooftops
Run away
Left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Papers in the roadside
Tell of suffering and greed
Fear today, forgot tomorrow
Ooh, here besides the news
Of holy war and holy need
Ours is just a little sorrowed talk
And I don't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Every world
Is my world
(I will learn to survive)
Any world
Is my world
(I will learn to survive)
Any world
Is my world
How sweet of you ❤️

Thank for adding this!
More TRUE..... always
I’m a purist by heart and I refuse anything else. This track moves the ground beneath me...
Well it was filmed in Japan 🗾 so earthquake 🫨
"Ordinary World" traces an emotional and philosophical journey that, through grief, reflects the struggle between clinging to the past and accepting a transformed reality. From psychoanalysis, it represents an attempt at integration and acceptance of loss; From philosophy, the song becomes an existential search for meaning and authenticity, despite absence and suffering. It is a narrative of both emotional reconciliation and rediscovery of oneself in a world that is perceived to be transformed.
Brillant song! Pure art.
How interesting to read your comment...cause its same for me❤
Duran Duran have an amazing back catalogue but this in my opinion is their best song ever. Magnificent
Amen
When you hear a song it triggers your memory when you first heard it where you were the feelings that you had at the time the people that were with you
❤❤😅
I am amazed about that clear shift from 80s to 90s sound. And Duran Duran were a very 80s band and this sounds very comfortably 90s.
For sure. Probably my favorite song of all time
One of the most personal, relatable, resonant songs ever created.
The older i get the more the lyrics hit home, absolute beast of a song and absolutely soul cleansing, when i listen to it the dam wall breaks and the tears flow.
Same here. It reminds me that our lives are a snapshot in time.

& grateful of all that tech that makes this possible, kudos to all those young and dreamers- musical bands!
We lost Mum a few weeks ago at 60, Duran Duran was her favourite band ever, and this song has so, so many connections for us to remember her by. RIP Mum xx
she was gods own image
When we lose someone we love so much, or go through something that is so hard and a loss, this song tells us what to do. We must find the ordinary world and somehow relearn how to survive. What a gift.

Parabéns pra você!
Yes. Bless you. ❤
Lyrics 🎉
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio
Still, I can't escape the ghost of you
What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is the life that I recognize?
(Gone away)
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Passion or coincidence
Once prompted you to say
"Pride will tear us both apart"
Well now pride's gone out the window
Cross the rooftops
Run away
Left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
(Gone away)
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ah
Oh, yeah, oh
Papers in the roadside
Tell of suffering and greed
Fear today, forgot tomorrow
Ooh, here besides the news
Of holy war and holy need
Ours is just a little sorrowed talk
And I don't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Every world
Is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world
Is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world
Is my world
Every world
Is my world
Thanks for the beautiful words 😘
Great, stunning

Quite simply,Duran Duran's finest song....almost 30 years later,this stops me in my tracks! A masterpiece 🙏

Hi I recommend a song and video called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix
You nailed it with this comment!
This song was written in the sadness, and grief of the loss of his best friend. I feel this for the losses of my best friend and my daughter.
🤗
I'm sorry for your loss. I love that you are focused on the great memories you've shared! You WILL see him again, I promise.
Wishing much love and peace brother

If I were your dad, I'd be proud that this was the song you picked. It's an extremely meaningful one and a beautiful choice. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you find some semblance of comfort in the fact that others see the beauty in your choice.
In 1993 I was going through a very dark and depressing time in my life. I came across this song and pretty much made it my Mantra. Thank you Duran Duran for writing such an incredible and inspirational song. Love always
It never ceases to amaze me how tasteful and complex Nick Rhodes' keyboard parts are. He's a sublime craftsman. 😊
I think so too, a genius
This song is another level of music, by far their best. From it's message in the chorus'" I will learn to survive' to the mesmerizing guitar, to Simon Le Bon's perfect falsetto at the end. Simon said this song helped him to recover emotionally from the death of his friend David Miles. Amazing how powerful emotions can bring out greatness!
This song is a masterpiece. Makes me a shudder in the body every time i hear it. Its one of the most beautiful songs I've heard.
This is called: Nostalgia. Short'n'simple.
This song makes me feel so identified and emotional with the final part in which He says " I Will learn to survive ",also makes me cry for what the singer had inside back in the moment.
"And I don't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive"

But we did get "Second Nature" by Bon Iver a couple of years ago. Another divine song. Check it out, my friend!

Waouh nice quote. Will remember it. It’s true.
😢 yes indeed. I am a widower...
Wow ! That's amazing . Thankyou for sharing that info.
POWERFUL!
I agree
My wife passed and I also have twins in high school. Every day I wish she was here.
My wife died in December of '22. Your comment brought tears.
Over the past 40 years many of my friends and family have past away, too many, and the wounds do not heel, but from this sorrow, there is joy, in the bright light of hope, the joy of love I have from our Grand children, they are our world now
Wow, brought me to tears!!! She must have been a beautiful lady inside and out. So happy to here you fulfilled your promise. Very special!!!
Yes it had a profound affect on me as a teenager. Lonely, melancholy and mysterious
Never Give Up.
thats,right,bro...we r in this messy world,,,we ll be in peace in the next life

A heartbreaking, brilliantly constructed song with great instrumentation, possibly Duran Duran's finest tune.
Thank You Duran Duran for this masterpiece ❤
I found my poor sweet big brother dead in his bed on 7/30/20. That was the most devastating day of my life. I don’t remember the first few days after. But the Sunday after I put on my brave face and went to clean out his room and get it ready to be emptied. For some reason the moment I opened his door this song came into my head. I hadn’t thought about or heard it in literal years but there it was strong and clear every note and lyric. I burst into tears with the perfection of how exactly it captured what I’m going through. Thanks Duran Duran. My brother loved this song when we were teens. We both did.
Sorry for your loss!
Sorry for your loss. Much love.
Very sorry for your loss
Sorry for what happened to your brother. For your loss. He will continue loving you even if he's now in another dimension. Love love.❤️

It's amazing how a man of a different nationality and from a different continent, with an entirely different lifestyle and life experiences and worldview and character can perfectly encapsulate how you've been feeling for months. Put in to words thoughts that you yourself couldn't. Felt like this was coming out of my own soul while I was listening to it.
well said.
I do not know what word you have for the Holy Spirit - but that is who is at work here. Sad and nostalgic and happy and ecstatic are all the same to Him, as all come from love, and God is love...
That's why they were a special band.

Gives me goosebumps still. Every time I hear this song...
Such a powerful song. The chorus has me thinking of how we all transition out of our youth and into true adulthood. We all have our struggles, but we find our way in the end.
couldn't believe this was released 30 years ago!
This song never gets old. This song represents the past present and future. Doesnt get any better. What a classic.

Congratulations to Duran Duran for their Induction into the Rock and Roll HOF. Its about time...thank you for this Song and meaning...🌎✌️👍🤜💥🤛
I am 68 years old with 2 adult Children, Duran, Duran, you rock.I still love this song to this day!😉

What illness does she have and which country are you from?

Yeah. Now it's just 24/7 autotune sing-the-same-note-over-and-over-again-in-a-wimpy-emo-voice crap.
A Legend???????
Best pop song of the 90s!
This song has a special place in my heart ❤️🩹
This masterpiece will never get old.
This song is so melancholic that it’s romantic. I can recognize the pain behind the lyrics but it really speaks to me like a love song
I think it's about someone's death?
@@pup1008 It is. It's a song of loss.
The singer has lost someone, someone who was a huge part of their life, and that loss has completely turned their lives upside down.
They're struggling to move on, to reach the 'ordinary world', that is, a sense of the normality they had before the loss, and 'learning to survive', that is, figure out how to continue their life without that person in it, but they're not ready yet. They're still grieving, as much as they recognize 'they've somehow got to find' the way back to that 'ordinary world', they can't.
@@GuukanKitsune
The lyric to "Ordinary World" were written by Simon Le Bon as the second of a trilogy of songs for his late friend David Mile.

Tong loba pikiran, doakeun weh ibu teh sing di hampura dosana, di tampi agamana, jeung di terangkeun lam kuburna

Right on brother , it brings a tear to my eye to hear that love your love ones .
Same my Mom passed March 12,..she saw my first breath and I saw her last..the most awesome experience ❤
My son is 12 and loving the classic influence im sharing him. He just admire the music back then than those music now.
This is one of the songs I play everytime I drive him to school.
*cant believe Im calling it classic now, like really really classic. But this will never get old
Clássico, obra prima 👏👍🙏, quem comigo hoje e sempre bem vindo!
This song represents a wonderful era, which no longer exists. Everything has changed, everything is different.
Beautiful memories are destined to be lost over time.
You are so very right
"Lost like tears in rain..."
@@paulm749 И дождь смывает все следы.......
I absolutely agree with you, that era was amazing and no longer exists. I only listen to old music, above all these unforgettable songs.
In the '90s i hated this song. I hated every song from the radiocharts. Now I'm in my '40s and I love the song.
by the way whats wrong with any 80s band? LOL!
@@danholzer4626 Hahaha!!! Absolutely nothing my friend! I was born in the ‘80s. I love ‘80s bands. I was just speaking to how their sound evolved over time. lol.
I was vacationing in Orlando with my aunt when it played on Mix 105.1
I was fishing with an AM FM radio tape recorder and skipped until the Spencer Davis Group played Gimme Some Lovin'
43 years old, but this song sounds like it came out yesterday. What a talented bunch of people, with a song that will always stand the test of time

I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THIS LEAD SINGER IN PERSON, SIMON LEBON HE'S SUCH A SOPHISTICATED YOUNGER MAN I SURE LIKE TO DATE HIM.
never thought I would miss these guys but I so love them now
This is like the essence of where I'm at... after my dearest wife left me almost 3 years ago... after 26 years and 51 weeks.... there's an ordinary world that I must find again...we had seen Duran Duran live together...what a memory... still I'm blessed. Music has deep ties that bind
My sincerest condolences.
Just know that you have our deepest condolences!
Thank you for your condolences. It means alot💕
I am sorry for youre loss and Gods blessings from the Netherlands 💞
Thank you
I never get tired of listening to it, a tremendous song and a very angelic melody, who doesn't like it?

"Where is my friend when I need you most" - that lyric always hits me right in the heart!
i cant escape the ghost of you
@mattcorbin5194
Is this song about a friend who died? I'm getting those kind of vibes
@@MetalFriscoDude79 You're right! I just Googled and found this:
The origins of "Ordinary World" were the results of tragedy: the death of singer Simon Le Bon's good friend, David Miles, of a drug overdose in 1986. “I'm not a big believer in the supernatural, but six years after [my friend's death], I started to feel a weight inside me," Le Bon told Paste in 2017.
Got me unblocking
I ask that question every day
In my opinion this is the best song Duran Duran ever did.
For me this, hungry like a wolf 🐺 and white lines
Come undone... There's an argument right here
I agree totally!!
@ quite well said-
I'm always torn between this and Come Undone as their masterpiece- both are probably in the top 10 of best pop songs ever made.
This song seems quite relevant to the times we are in now. I'm sure we would all love to be back to the ordinary world.
I agree with you completely. I find myself listening to this song now , and I loved this song years ago, but now it has such a deeper meaning.
What has been ordinary about all the years since Adam and Eve..... 🤷♂️... Only one world we all have been seriously looking for........ ✝️📖🕊 The few and only questions of all man kind.
I love this song, I’ve been listerning to this song a lot recently
@@kryptofreedommedia1899 I agree! That's the reason I was pulled into listening to this song again after so many years. There's definitely more understanding to this song now.
I heard this song for the first time a few months ago while driving, and this is now my all time favourite song. The song is mesmerizing, the chords are out of this world, and the music lasts in my mind long after it has stopped playing...Am totally crazy for this song.
Wow haha. I haven't heard this forever but have known it almost my whole life I think.
Same for me.
Welcome😍
Cannot not love this ❤
Yes this is one of those forever gold songs! Forever!

Message I get from this song: Don't cry for yesterday because yesterday is gone. All we can do is make the best out of what we have. It may not be okay now, but it will be.

Lo mejor. De lo. Mejor. De duran duran desde Bolivia...
Lyric
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio
Still I can't escape the ghost of you
What has happened to it all?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is the life that I recognize?
Gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Passion or coincidence
Once prompted you to say
"Pride will tear us both apart"
Well, now pride's gone out the window
Cross the rooftops
Run away
Left me in the vacuum of my heart
What is happening to me?
Crazy, some'd say
Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away
But I won't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Papers in the roadside
Tell of suffering and greed
Fear today, forgot tomorrow
Ooh, here besides the news
Of holy war and holy need
Ours is just a little sorrowed talk
And I don't cry for yesterday
There's an ordinary world
Somehow I have to find
And as I try to make my way
To the ordinary world
I will learn to survive
Every one
Is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any one
Is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any one
Is my world
Thank You for the lyrics.

Thank you.
I sure appreciate people who post lyrics.
This song has been described as a masterpiece. If you have ever been through something extremely intense, only to return to the dross of daily life, it describes it perfectly.
Thanks be to God and His Holy Spirit, who is adaptable and perfect and loving enough to try to reach us in new ways...

You're right. Lost my mum a year ago. For some reason this song has been cathartic for me.🙏
This is my favorite song by Duran Duran.

That's my favorite idol and I'm gonna ask Simon Lebon if he's available on Saturday night so we can be housemates and he'll teach me to sing some of his songs I happened to have a keyboard which is a musical instrument I wondered who plays a keyboard in Duran Duran can you please find out who it was?
My mom passed 3 weeks ago. I spent the last nine years looking after her after my younger brother died, through getting cancer, through her getting too old to do the things she used to enjoy and that gave her a sense of freedom.
Cancer came and took her at 91 and now I’m lost and rudderless. Just have no purpose or reason to go forward. This song means different things to different people but right now I’m just looking for normal again. I miss my best friend and I feel more alone than I ever have.
Came back to listen to this and try to find some motivation. Ours is just a little sorrowed talk, right?
You're not alone.
Probably one of the greatest songs of all time....
I always think of the film Layer Cake when I hear this song.
Yes one of the best , always brings me back to the early 90ths good times better times
Top 10 for sure
I’m only 19 but this song touches me in ways that others can’t start to. The pain of good memories, but also the hope of better memories that will come my way. It is a song that for me will be timeless. It can be related to by any person that has lived or that has life to live. It is sad yet hopeful. I yearn for my past yet I am hopeful for my future, and it is incredible that a piece of music that was made before my time can do that for me.
It is beautiful❤
My son was murdered along w his girlfriend 8 days after his 19th BD. I can't STOP thinking about him. This song REALLY HITS me. (HELP!!). Especially I don't talk to no one. I hold everything in. It hurts so bad
