- My Honest Opinion of Owning a 3.2 V6 Audi TT! What a cracking sound it makes!

Just last Monday I took my 19 year old 05 TT 3.2L DSG SLine coupe to get new tires all around. As the young mechanic started it up to pull it into the bay and he heard that deep throated rumble, he looked at me and said, “ It sounds like this car can catch some speed!!” . And I smiled and said “yes it can.” The VR6 is the perfect TT. In normal drive its sound is understated but undeniably present. In sport mode or paddle shifting, it has the perfect exhaust note. Deep, and noticeable, but without being annoyingly loud or harsh to the other people along the road. The stock exhaust is perfect. You don’t need to do a thing but appreciate it. What’s more, the combo of that low end naturally aspirated torque and the DSG means that if you are driving it easy, it manages shifting to give you 30 mpg. And when you drive it hard, the DSG will NOT allow you to run over redline nor lug the engine, protecting your entire drive train from your own adrenaline. Mine has run 135k without needing a penny beyond regular scheduled maintenance..
You’ll be glad you did. I’ve been loving my MK1 VR6 for nearly 4 years now and I have to say the sound not only never gets boring, but the appreciation stays constant. Congrats!

As I recall…The DSG came out in the VW GTI and TT first. At the time Porsche had an auto clutch manual, but it was NOT dual clutch like the DSG. I drove both and the TT was dramtically superior, the Porsche was laggy and not smooth. That’s why I bought the TT. Porsche was so impressed with the Audi DSG that they worked with them to develop the 7 speed DSG they offered on Porsches the following year and for the Bugatti.

nice road and a car that suits it well! as much as i love the 1.8t in my 8n, that 3.2 sounds awesome mate and it certainly has enough punch for some twisty backroads
It is one of the better roads around here! Even the 1.8t has enough punch for a summers day! And with a small tweak has more power than the 3.2 can produce. They're all beautiful cars! Thanks for the comment!
They are lovely cars, I've got the 225. (I did own a quattro sport version for a while too)I don't live far from there, lovely scenic roads 👌🏽, my only complaint with the MK1 is the steering feedback, I've owned a lot of cars and the TT isn't great for feedback, recently sold my gen 7 Celica and that was so much sharper steering wise and you could feel everything, so much steering feedback. Looks like you have a lovely example of the V6 TT, maybe you could arrange a TT meet there at some point, would be nice to have a chat with yourself and other owners.
I am always open to meeting fellow enthusiasts of all cars! I'm sure something can be arranged in the near future! After a year of ownership, I do now see the steering feedback being numb, compared to other cars especially!
The humming that can be heard, is that normal? Mine sounds similar at low speeds so not sure it it was a wheel bearing or drive shaft noise
I believe it is my tires, I have RainSport 5s on and they are pretty loud!
Did you manage to find on that isnt really corroded and rusted underneath?
Believe it or not YES! I had the car checked over by Audi and they seemed to give it the thumbs up!

ahhh sad, he didnt use fully this TTR32 engine with DSG (he didnt was on paddles shifts too much, change from 2 to 3 gear is sssooooo instantly). I hope You will find one with good condition. ps.if You find one with DSG remember to change oil and filter in gearbox (once per 60.000 kilometers). :) cheers!
