Cod Opening 2024

A bit later than normal but I got out on the river for my cod opening for the 2024/2025 cod season. The river was running very high but clear and I managed to find a few cod.

Nice job Hawkest, very clear for such a fast running river. I love the Zillion reels, I had the HD and also the HLC but needed money and sold the HD, now regretting it. Such smooth reels and can cast a country mile.

Thanks mate! The zillions are great, mines a bit worse for wear now. Spent two weeks in the river at the start of the year and needed a heap of new bearings but still getting the job done

Great effort mate to get to all those spots as well as having to swim out to get snags off and land your fish. That’s commitment!
Are there Yellow Belly in there as well?

Thanks mate, it was a huge effort to get up and down the river but paid off for me. I don't think there's any yellas there, I haven't come across any there before but that doesnt mean theres none there

God dam y'all. That river and those fish look so darn purdy. My Aussie mates fished your cod opening season and sent me picks of the bloody snakes he was chases by, one brown and one black. Apparently, the brown ones are more deadly but the black ones eat them. He didn't catch any fish, though they're planning to fish the upper Murray after NY. Last year, they tagged and released a metery

I was really surprised I didn't come across many snakes this trip. I saw one black snake the whole trip. The upper Murray has been on my list for a while to fosh, looks like a bigger version of the rivers I normally go to with bigger fish too
