  • Welcome to Day 4 of 12 Days of Last Minute DIY Gifts! In this sewing tutorial I teach you how to make a super quick and beginner friendly snap up caddy. You only need two small pieces of two different fabrics and some foam interfacing for the body. For the snap closures on the corners I will use plastic snaps and my setting kit.
    Find more info on supplies and other projects in the blog post here: craftygemini.com/2017/12/12-da...
    Here is a list of the supplies I used in this project and my affiliate links on where you can purchase them:

    Hello there! I'm relearning how to sew after 30 years and found your channel after searching for exactly this kind of project. They turned out great! Thanks for your instructions.

    I just did this and now I want to make a lot more! Your explanation of the female/male parts was a lot clearer than what came with the pliers. Thank you for that!

    It's been three years and I am still making them. I just made another one as a thread catcher for my spare machine that I take to sewing guild and retreats. I also have one for my glasses and nose spray beside my bed when I go away. I have another one in the lounge...... it is not the end yet...

    Such a cute little project ! I'd love to know if you think this would be sturdy enough if it were enlarged to be a bread basket (for serving bread or rolls on the dinner table)? How would I adjust the snap placement if I tried to enlarge?

    When I am making caddies or baskets like this for myself I use those foamie squares. They hold up just as well. They come in various sizes and cost a lot less . For gifts, I use what is suggested.

    Hi Vanessa! I’m a new subscriber and I’m in love 😍 with your channel, I have been crocheting must of my life but now I’m venturing into sewing and you are a great teacher, I already made a few things from your tutorials and this in particular came out super cute, I just have a question in how to make this in a bigger size? I’m assuming just add more inches but I’m not sure about the snap buttons and how to position them, thank you so much you’re great!!!

    @thecraftygemini Hi Vanessa, When installing the snaps, what if you accidentally install the snaps backwards. Are they easily removed to reverse in the correct direction?

    • @tlsnana9539
      @tlsnana9539 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aurora Darling there are videos to tell you how but it’s pretty easy. I’ve done it, too. . . . Christmas Eve I was finishing a last minute gift and put the snap in the wrong place.
      Using the snap pliers, squeeze the snap sideways. You have to break it. Then just replace it. I hope this helps you.

    Hey Vanessa, what do you use to mark your fabric with? I used Frixion until I had ghost marks on the fabric.

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tailor's chalk, chalk marker, or water soluble marker. I still use Frixion sometimes but not on dark fabrics. Those will leave ghost marks for me when i press them away.

    Where can I purchase the plastic snaps I have bunches of the old metal type? Have you ever heard of a Dice tray....made the same way but a bit bigger.... It is to be used when playing games with dice...you throw the dice in the tray....so they don't end up on the floor....My grand kids need one...The one I saw uses the plastic fasteners

  • @kmwilson28

    Have you tried this with the fusible foam? I’m just wondering if that would keep the fabric smoother and not pucker up a bit when snapped? Thanks Vanessa...love the snaps idea!

    • @TheCraftyGemini
      @TheCraftyGemini  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup! The black and white be was fused and works fine with less puckering. Just be sure to fuse it centered to one side so it doesn’t peel off on you when you’re turning it inside out. Happy sewing!

    • @kmwilson28
      @kmwilson28 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheCraftyGemini I was thinking of inserting it the same as your video and then iron/fuse it at the end before top stitching. I’m excited that I now have something I can make quickly for handmade gifts and these can easily be mailed 🎅🏽
