  • How to unclog/clean dried up ink jet printer print head cartridges, best reliable method to get your ink flowing again, and the solution to printing blank or faded pages. When properly done according to this video, you should be able to unclog a dried out inkjet print head. This method will not repair a damaged inkjet print head, nor is any method 100% guaranteed to work on every print head. Have a bowl and paper towels on hand in the event you make a mess! **NOTE: If your print head is separate from the ink cartridge, it may still be possible to clean the print head installed in the printer. Use a piece of plastic under the print head, and apply a very warm and damp paper towel to the print head and follow the procedure as shown in this video.**

      Hi,
I want to thank you for this tips.
I always had problem when refilling my ink cartridge and it clogged every time. Furthermore I had yo wait for hour before printing and even when I did that, it didn't work every time.
Now I am doing this (with a straw) and it worked so perfectly :)!

Throw those inkjet printers in the garbage. Get a color lazer printer. I have an HP 2025 color lazer printer for 9 years, never a problem. From Amazon I get a set of 4 cartridges for $85.00 and they last a whole year.

I have spent HOURS following HP's recommendations, aligning, cleaning printer heads (repeatedly), removing all the drivers and reinstalling the printer and drivers and HP smart onto my computer and NONE of it worked....and then (imagine magical angel chimes playing in the background) I watched your video and the problem was fixed in UNDER 30 SECONDS!!!! Wow!! After watching dozens of other videos on how to fill cartridges, buying ink, doing all the things I thought would work, this guy comes along and says to push air through the little hole! Well, I could not get a tube to work, so I took the risk and just blew on the hole with my mouth held tight to the cartridge. It worked!! Thank you! I did not get any ink in my mouth, on my lips, or anywhere but the paper towel. It took one firm blow! Now I don't have to go buy ANYTHING!! Thank you soooo much!

Thank you so much for this! I have been refilling my cartridges for over 2 years and always ran into clogs that I could NEVER fix. I tried soaking in Windex, Alcohol, hot water, you name it! I always just ended up buying new cartridges, which defeated the purpose after only being able to refill it once. Who knew it would be as simple as blowing through a straw! You are a lifesaver!
For anyone reading this who uses Canon cartridges where the cyan and yellow chambers are open at the very top (244), this did not make either ink spill over into each others chambers, even after refilling them with 1.5ml of ink! That was my biggest concern when doing this!

Did a black cartridge and this works great. soak printhead in isopropyl alcohol for a day. open main front hole in top of cartridge. Make sure other holes are covered tight. put a air blower attachment on a air compressor or just use a canned air container from walmart. Aim the cartridge bottom away from u in the garage. Hold the air compressor air tool about 10" from the open hole. set pressure low on the compressor. make sure your thumb is on top of the plugged holes on the cartridge!! Aim at the open hole and blow for a few seconds. Clean the exterior very good. Fill cartridge, tape all holes with tape.

Can't believe it but I've got a working printer now. Had an HP 3630 that I'd had in the box for a few years unopened. Has the 63 HP cartridges. When I tried to use it the first time, black was completely dried out and the color was about 60% dried with just blue and yellow coming out on test prints. Did your technique --with the color, soaked a couple of times then peeled back label and blew into hole with a straw--that got magenta going and it was good to go. The black took several soakings and a few straw applications but I eventually got it going. I had really thought that I wouldn't be able to get decent print from the black but I knew there was wet ink at the top of the pad. On the final soak of the black cartridge (25 minutes) I did see black ink floating around in the container so I thought maybe I had finally unclogged it. Then did one more straw application and I guess I had pushed enough ink down towards the bottom of it to get it operating normally. Result: The color output is near perfect and the black is about 90% OK with some faded print on the edges in places and some lines. But usable for sure and saved me 60 bucks. I think your comment that you had never not been able to get one of these going made me persist beyond what I normally would have. Mega-thanks for your video!!

Great video that works. Had color HP 60 cartridge that sat unused in the printer for a long time. Took effort between what you show here and also cleaning the electrical strip with rubbing alcohol, before I finally got it to print out all three colors. Really worth the effort considering how much these cartridges cost. I first had to refill the cartridge with ink before I realized the ink had dried out in the jets holes. Thanks for the great tutorial.

Pretty good info. Definitely worth trying before buying another cartridge. Epson printheads are built into the printer...they are not removable. Also, only use distilled water. The minerals in tap water can cause the inks to seize (especially black inks) and solidify in the printheads. Be sure to dry all the water on and behind the flex circuit, as that can cause a short and make your cartridge unrecognizable in the printer.

This does work.I have been in the audio and vid electronics repair for decades. Also pretty much any other thing as well.I spent years to master mind my printer because ink was just so darn high priced for paper that I burned off in one day.I been down the road with ink cartridges and all else.Unclogging as well, refills takes alot of Patience. It can be screwed up easy.Hot water and steam so to say brings out the ink.If it does not, do not skip step because it will help in the next steps.I have and use syringes without needle.Just plunger and the end of it is custom to fit hole I need and secure tight.I also long ago avoided newer printers.Of which are harder to crack or refill. Also contain like 4 or more darn cartridges.Still on my 90's 1 cartridge printer lol.

Dude, you're a genius and a life saver. The YELLOW in my HP Tricolor ink cartridge was clogged. Red & Blue worked perfectly. Watched 2 other vids and their solutions didn't work. Although HP cartridges are a little different than yours, I peeled back the sticker & found the yellow hole and used the straw from my WD40 can and blew gently and the yellow became unclogged. Thank you very much! I was just about to toss out a set of dried cartridges, I actually have new set installed, which works fine, but I'll need that too for converting it to an all black set of cartridges for better result in my PCB making process... :) I've figured out that in order to get black enough traces for blocking UV light I need to print the image in high resolution photo settings, on paper or film, but in high resolution photo mode the black color is actually not black since it's mixed of all 4 colors, which makes a litle bit greenish, which doesn't exactly blocks UV light... If I print it using high resolution photo settigns, but I take out the color cartridge it is black, but still transparent since it doesn't gets enough ink pomped into the paper. The best result I've got was with both black and color cartridges all compartment filled with black ink, but once I've converted the color cartridge to black, I was able to print 0.008" lines, but I was unable to print color images. I hope that won't be the case now. :)

Thanks so much for this. I had an urgent print job and the cyan (blue) on my new (but out of date) genuine HP 78 tri-colour cartridge was blocked. Soaking in warm water didn't help so I tried the blow-through method. I had to drill a small hole through the filler plug in the top of the cartridge to reach the cyan tank, as there was no other way in. I used a straw to blow through the hole and hey presto! Cyan ink appeared in the bowl! I dried off the cartridge, put some sticky tape over the hole, installed the cartridge and printed off twenty perfect colour pages. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you for this video. I have a tool called a snap and vac from an after market bulk ink supplier- but the down side is it sucks out all the colors and not just the one that is clogged. In my case- I was getting yellow only briefly after cleaning. I used a little piece of small engine fuel line tubing that works perfectly. My cartridge was so clogged, I had to do this several times, but finally the yellow was completely clear- so clear that it put the blue and red to shame! Both of these are more of a purple and maroon, so my guess is that both of these heads are only partially clogged, so I will now do the tube method on each of these until they improve. Thanks again for taking the time to put this video out, and assisting us thrifty printer re-fillers!

It seems that when I need a new ink cartridge, they are out, so when I see them in stock, I pick up one to have as a spare. Put a new black in that I had as a spare and won't print. Ran the print head clear way too many times (wasted a lot of color because the color cartridge was printing fine), nothing. Finally thought to check TH-cam and came across this video. Literally two minutes of a warm water soak and it is printing as if nothing was ever wrong. THANK YOU!!

Anything to avoid buying from printer companies, the price they sell ink is a RIPOFF, a STEAL.... I buy a printer that will accept easy refills, for most the work I perform with printers, even lower grade ink will do...
At $20 - 30 per quart for cheaper, and $30 - 50 for excellent quality, you can save a bundle, knowing that most cartridges use about 4 to 8 ml. of ink and sell it for $25.
I simply hate to be taken hostage that way......!!!!!!

But there is at least one good thing about them:
Their driver support ist EXCELLENT! My 25 year old printer has STILL drivers for Windows 10! And also my HP PSC1410 works quite well with Windows 7. Also they have very good Linux support.
So I think this is quite good, other companies force you to buy a new printer that way.
But I have switched to a laser printer, bought a used Brother HL6050 for 20€, thats less than a color cartridge for my HP DJ 3050
