Exactly. These movies are full of this drama but this just conveys so many emotions and raises chills among my arms every single time. This is the definition of a *perfect* trailer. Plus hearing Jaina sing is a bonus. 10/10
I am pretty sure this is a blizzard team. Their first work like this (if I recall correctly) was the Starcraft 2 "Reclamation" short. Don't quote me on that though, not sure.
She's amazing. I've seen her acting on Critical Role. She gets into the character's emotional state so quickly and convincingly. Pretty sure she's brought me to tears multiple times just by playing DnD :D
Breaks my heart to remember this was one of the last time's i was emotionally invested in WoW, and thats after most of my love for the game had already left
In Warcraft 3 campaign her last words to her father are: "Father... why wouldn't you listen?" and here she says "I'm listening now father." Make of it what you will.
@Arcticaz You're a moron who doesn't understand the complexity of literary analysis. That scene in the video above was not a flash back to Warcraft 3. That was her talking to the Ghost of her father, Daelin. She was acknowledging that she was wrong before, and it was HER that wouldn't listen, not him. She was referencing what she had said in the past, "Father...why wouldn't you listen?" She now realizes she was the one who was wrong, and it cost her the lives of many innocents. "I'm listing now father." She's literally saying, "You were right father, it wasn't you that needed to listen, it was me. I see that now." Don't bash their writers because it flies over your head. I think they did an incredible job.
Adding on to that...is it really Daelin that Jaina's listening to, though? She wouldn't be the first character to think her dead loved one has come back to life... *cough* Fandral Staghelm *cough*
Teric haha omg you need to chill it was a joke. Honestly though, her dad was so blinded by his hatred for the orcs that he was pretty much insane. Her not listening to him was a good thing.
Dont know much about story or audio. But cinematics are definetly better in FFXIV than this powerpoint slideshow. Or any of those trailers for each expansion.
i stopped playing long ago after WOTLK yet i always a faithful follower of it's lore... Warcraft universe is AMAZING, i could spend a whole day just binge reading all of the character stories, events, etc in Wiki page
Honestly, just playing Warcraft 3 and its expansion, Frozen Throne, will get you a lot of the backstory. They are Single Player games (with Multiplayer modes) and quite good.
Wc3 with frozen throne expansion? Oh i remember that! Was that the game where DOTA 1 created by icefrog and then became so popular? The rising of MOBA game!
If Jaina does go off rails. All we'd ask is she not be under anyone's control, she's earned that. Someone with no whispers, no monsters in the dark. Just a living consequence of trying for peace and happy endings, being met so many times with pain, loss, and good works undone. Challenge players' minds as to "If this parade of pressure had happened to you. What would you have done?" rather than power of friendship to beat mean ol' brain tentacles, before dying to clear decks for the next threat. Jaina seems to be wandering closer and closer to going full John Wick
if she goes imo thrall should go i also never understood why blizzard never made them more close than they seem. its really odd how her personality switched once thrall left as warchief. its just odd....
*Lyrics* *Jaina* Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea Beware, I heard him cry His words carried upon the ocean breeze As he sank beneath the tide Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor Where sailors fought and died The admiral fell at Theramore Because she left his side *Sea dogs* Why this? Why this, Oh Daughter of the Sea? Why this? Did you forget your seaside days? Always the pride of our nation's eyes How could she go astray? When she did flee across the ocean deep The admiral followed west What else but sail To save a daughter's life And pray she still drew breath? But there he found upon those distant shores Enemies 'pon the rise! But when he faced those savage foes His daughter stood aside And buried deep beneath the waves Betrayed by family To his nation, with his last breath, cried Beware the Daughter of the Sea! *Jaina* I'm listening now… father. *Jaina* I heard, I heard across a moonlit sea The old voice warning me Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea Beware… beware… of me.
A lot of people do not fully understand the tragedy that is Jaina’s entire life. She lost her love to the powers of the Lich king and become the very embodiment of evil, she lost Dalaran as it was destroyed by Archimonde, her mentor was killed by Arthas, she left her home and life behind to travel to Kalimdor, fought off the burning legion, had to watch her father be killed in the name of peace, years later have to face off against her love after trying to find a way to redeem him, having to kill him, then watching as the Horde she fought to have peace with destroy her kingdom, return back to Kul Tiras branded a traitor, and watch her dead brother be reanimated into undeath. My heart HURTS for her.
Everyone loses everything in Azeroth. Sylvanas, Greymane, maybe Saurfang which leads a raid against his undead son... It's just that half of them are strong, some other just rants.
She has not just lost, she also failed all those things. She stood 'aside' too often. No matter what she has rebuilt, it has fallen apart. In the end, only her roots, her family and country, seem to be what can really bring any notion of peace. And it would seem that peace could only happen after she returned home and submitted herself for judgment.
Powerful emotions. Jaina's last words to her father in WC3 before his death were "Father... why wouldn't you listen?". Now she sees his side of it, and finally tells him regretfully "I'm listening father"
thaloh with good reason. her father had seen the savage of the horde during the first invasion. he know the true nature of the horde and there will never be peace. and the horde right now is proving him right again and again.
@Johto Ironically, those people actually being Blizzard - constantly shoehorning a faction conflict at all costs, because they can't seem to figure out that the "war" in Warcraft doesn't always have to be Horde vs. Alliance all the time no matter what.
I remember during BFA, during the war campaign taking the little boat from your landing zone in zuldazar to the main alliance hub for zuldazar, one of the sailors on the boat was singing this.
It is canonically a folk song sung by Kul Tirans, since it details her 'betrayal' of her people. It also comes from the old Admiralty nursery rhyme that you can hear her father sing to her as a child, in one of the flashback cutscenes.
So possibly of significance. In the BFA features trailer she said "My father once said, peace is like a dream, beautiful, ephemeral...unattainable. I didn't listen." and in this she says "I'm listening now, Father." and he vanishes. I might be reading too much in to it but to me at least it's him forgiving her. But hey it might also just be her finally accepting the guilt or whatever.
your not reading to far at all. She now, after decades of trying to find peace is finally picking a side. She may not go directly killing horde like an evil person, but she will fight them when needed, and she is accepting this)
Good because she's been betrayed over and over by the Horde. The things she's been through, it's good Blizzard has finally made her into a battle hardened leader the Alliance can rely on.
As someone who works for Disney, I totally agree. The problem is I think Blizzard just doesn't have quite the proper funds to promote such a project. I would love it tho!
"Beware, Beware, The daughter of the sea " I heard him cry. His words carried upon the ocean breeze, As he sank beneath the tide. Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor, Where sailors fought and died. The Admiral fell at Theramore, Because she left his side. Why this? Why this, oh Daughter of the Sea? Why this? Did you forget your seaside days? I heard, I heard, across a moonlit sea, The old voice warning me, "Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea", "Beware, beware..." ...of me.
I'm a Horde player through and through. I've loved all the Warcraft animated shorts... but this is the first time one made me cry. Few characters in the Warcraft universe have been screwed as much as Jaina Proudmoore. Everyone else has always benefited from the peace she always fought for, while everyone and everything she's ever loved has been killed or destroyed. And that song! That song...
When the Kul Tiran sailors and Marines landed in Theramore they had no idea what they were walking into. News of the Burning Legion had only just been filtering east as rumors, everyone else was more concerned with the Scourge and orcs. Now the Admiral finds his daughter and thousands of people survived and escaped. The Kul Tirans thought they were coming the save the day, the heroes of this story. Only to become the villains.
Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea. Beware, I heard him cry. His words carried upon the ocean breeze, As he sank beneath the tide. Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor, Where sailors fought and died. The admiral fell at Theramore, Because she left his side. Why this? Why this oh Daughter of the Sea? Why this? Callie C in Warcraft 3 she help evacuate the survivor citizens from Lorderon and Dalaran from the Scourge invasion. Daelin Proudmoore, heard of the falls of Lorderon and the expedition fleets Jaina use for evacuation heading for the west(Kalimdor), follow her to save her life.
The fact that blizzard made me feel bad about killing Jaina's father in wc3 even if i hated his guts for years by watching a 4 min video deserves praise.
The fact that it makes me feel the death of Admiral Proudmoore is justification enough for the nation to hide away from the world for 14 years is an achievement.
Thrall and Jaina fought for peace. What did Thrall get? A wife. A good stable job with the Earthen Ring and a chance to walk away. What did Jaina get? A dead city. A broken heart. And anger. So much anger
she has every right to be angry the horde under grommash hellscream manabombed the very nation she tried to uphold peace. and she lost her apprentice and Rhonin her dear dear friend.
Garrosh not Grommash. Grom is even sort of respected by the Alliance for killing Mannoroth even though he was one of their greatest enemies. Garrosh was his son.
badfoody Thrall had to watch people suffer under Garrosh and his tyranny beforehand, labelling Horde again as savages, which he has been trying to change for such a long time, also lost both Cairne and Voljin in the process of defending Azeroth, both of which were precious allies and friends to him. In the end he killed the son of his best friend whom saved his life, to uphold the peace on Azeroth, and although Garrosh went to the dark side, Thrall was still the closest thing to a father that Garrosh had, so i'd argue that he ain't too happy and dandy character.
The orcs are an invading alien race that were demonically possessed by the Legion. There is no moral equivalency between the two sides. Jaina should have helped her father wipe them out instead of being a filthy race traitor.
Admiral Proudmoore: "You have always been naive, my daughter. You aren't old enough to remember what these monsters did to our homeland. The orcs and their kin cannot be trusted. They must be exterminated like the mongrels they are!" Jaina: "I won't let you do it, father. You don't understand!" Admiral Proudmoore: "I understand more than you suspect, my dear. Perhaps in time, you will too." A storyline 15 years in the making.
Yup, I think its going to be good. When I played warcraft 2 years ago. I didn't think of the story much. But just imaging how the horde was with their bloodlust and the acts they did during the first and second war. It is hard to forgive. Admiral Proudmoore had his reasons for his hatred.
@Arkham - Doing one good does not negate one bad. And vice versa. The effect is still there. Giving an impoverished family millions AFTER murdering their child doesn't bring the child back.
Daelin protected his ship and fallen crew in the afterlife and awaited his daughters return and promptly forgave her and led her to the ship for whatever she needed. He waited, knowing she would come back when she needed to. He may have warned kul tiras of his daughter but he understood and never stopped loving her :'(
Regardless of what people's opinions about Blizzard and the game itself are - the Media team is beyond phenomenal; every cinematic, every animated short and every comic (the madefire ones especially) are always of such incredible quality they give me goosebumps. Three mighty cheers for you guys, you're absolute legends and masters of your craft!
Well maybe not movie, shorts would work. Blizzard cinematics are great (same goes for most animated vg trailers anyhow) because they can present a concise focus into a short amount of time, thus quality>quantity such and such. A full length movie loses then, and is much more prone to problems hence risky and likely not worth it.
3:22 For anyone wondering, yes those ships are just as massive in-game. _Also, this has easily become one of my favorite lyrical songs ever written for game._
@@zain6008 I mean they've made clear the intent. _All_ the warcrimes and horrible, horrible atrocities the Horde have committed? Swept under the rug because Sylvanas is now the lightning rod for hate. Meanwhile the whole of the Alliance now gets silenced, painted poorly, because Tyrande is reacting quite _accurately_ for having a damned World Tree burned down with insane numbers of her people in it and her husband nearly killed. That gets her branded as the next villain we're going to "take down." The Horde gets reclamation, their sins forgiven and uplifted to honour... The Alliance brought low to villainy for being furious with the result. Explain to me how the Horde gets a bad deal by comparison.
Blizzard wanted to have their cake and eat it so they had both the faction war and the Black Empire invasion in the same expansion. In my honest opinion, the should have probably stuck with just one story.
Her hypocrisy and self-righteous deprivation continues. She chose to became a war criminal. She chose to drench her hands in the blood of the innocent. She chose to let families and children be burned to ash. She chose to round up and execute people because of their race alone. She can’t die soon enough.
it gets more painful, hit harder , and sounds more epic every time, doesn't it ? I mean I'm a Hordie, but I've watched this endlessly, while I''ve maybe watched Sylvanas' twice
This will forever be one of my top favorite songs of WoW. You can feel the raw emotion poured into every verse, every note, every beat of this masterpiece. It makes me want to hear more characters get a song like this. Also the visuals of the artwork is just has stunning. This is what keeps me coming back for more WoW. I wish to see more of this dedication to the characters & lore in the future.
I'll take my time to share some basic lore/story behind this Warbringers for people not knowing the background. Year 2003, Blizzard released Warcraft 3 - The frozen throne expansion which included a campaign where you played as the Horde. Admiral Daelin Proudmoore (Jainas father) was a vicious and powerful man who lead the mighty Kul'tiras fleet. After years of searching for Jaina after the fall of Lordaeron and Dalaran he finally found out that his daugher is alive and she's been taking stand on Theramore isle in Kalimdor. He decided to go find Jaina but when he arrived to the shores of Kalimdor, he saw how weak "the new horde was" and brought war and murder to innocent tribes, woman and children in Durotar and Barrens in search for her. Keep in mind that Thralls horde were somewhat warriors, but mostly civilians trying to rebuild a new home in Kalimdor. Many innocent people died and Thrall who was warchief needed to do something about the Kul'tiran invasion. With many important characters, mainly Rexxar and Rok'han, Thrall decided in a peaceful way to reach for Jaina to stop this madness. After hearing what Daelin done to the horde, Jaina decided to help Thrall stop this reckless war and to keep the peace between Theramore and the Horde. This lead to that Jaina betrayed Kul'tiras and her father and let the horde lay siege on Theramore. Keep in mind that Jaina was the leader of Theramore so she probably rallied her own forces to withdraw and in the campaign she said to Thrall "please spare my men, they have nothing to do with this". Thrall promised that this would not harm Theramore but only the Kul'tiran forces in a campaign to kill Daelin Proudmoore. Admiral Daelin Proudmoore mocked the Horde as if they were as savage as the old horde and he was surprised they haven't killed eachother by this time. Keep in mind that it was not only Orcs who fought the Kul'tiram forces in Theramore, but also trolls, goblins, taurens and even ogres. The Kul'tiran forces didn't stand a chance and Daelin died "as a proud warrior" as Rexxar said. Jaina said with tears in her eyes knowing she betrayed her father "Oh why father, didn't you just listen"... Then in WoW much later in the story you all know the story behind Garrosh and the horde bombing Theramore and this is mainly the reason why Jaina is filled with hate for the horde. Thralls horde together with Rexxar, Rok'han, Vol'jin, Cairne Bloodhoof and many other important characters didn't wish for murder and bloodlust but to keep peace at the shores of Kalimdor. Thanks for reading!
Which is why her still wanting to destroy the Horde after Garrosh's fall feels weird to me. Either she really was corrupted by the Old Gods or her character development took a weird turn. She should know most of the Horde aren't vicious killers.
"Beware, beware the Daughter of the Seas." "Beware," I heard him cry. His words carried upon the ocean breeze, As he sank beneath the tide. Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor, Where sailors fought and died. The admiral fell at Theramore, because she left his side. Why this? Why this oh Daughter of the Seas? Why this? It is such an odd detail. But the anchor symbolism in this short is AMAZING. Her resolve to no longer stand by, (striving for peace) is shown visually as a war ship that is ready to sail with its anchor that was raised from the bottom of the sea. All the things that were holding her down, her father took it with him to his grave.
Nope. Illidan was wasted the day they decided to recycle him in full marvel style. Jaina becamejust a raging lunatic. Arthas, not being rebooted, just stayd the one good character he was.
Almost as good as Sarah Greene doing The Parting Glass at the end of AC4:Black Flag. Almost. Like, a hair's breadth. But overall... everyone involved? Tops even the best LotR end credits.
I think Laura sings in the beginning and the end. (really good!) And the middle part is more like a story that is sung about her. Maybe from her mother( jainas mother)? I don't remember her mothers voice that good
Who Said the WC movie failed? The reason why alot of ppl didn't like/understand it was because it was telling the story of WC:1 The very first game Its either getting a sequel or its going to stay a disappointment in ppl minds
I came back to WoW two weeks ago after a 10 year break. This quest completion reward was totally unexpected, as that sort of thing didn't exist ten years ago, and it's an absolute gem. The depth in the game now is staggering. Credit to the animation team and the musicians that produced such a wonderful addition to the WoW universe. I stand and applaud, bravo!
Unlike Sylvanas this how you do _morally grey_ right! We know that the Horde doesn't deserve to die for simply wanting to survive, but at the same time Jaina's efforts and sacrifices for peace have been proved for nothing. So now she is filled with torment over her decisions, over what she has done and what she has still yet to do.
"We know that the Horde doesn't deserve to die for simply wanting to survive" ... Well, yes, of course, so this is why manabomb was needed... The people should not be fully responsible for all decisions of the ruler, but at least should be responsible for non-interference during the massacre.
@@slp0001 Sylvanas's vendetta is going to pull down all the races of the Horde and the Alliance with her. We need Varok to become warchief and end this pointless war.
And it's why I like Jaina more than Sylvanas, though truth be told I still like Sylvanas even if I think she needs to face serious repercussions for Teldrassil. Preferably at the hands of the Kal'dorei themselves.
Quoted from the book "Tides of War", after the goblin aircraft dropped the mana bomb on Garrosh's order, "The shape looked like a child at first, which was what drew Jaina’s eye. The children had all been evacuated safely. Who- And then she knew. Jaina stood, barely breathing, wanting to look away but unable to. Slowly, jerkily, her feet moved, almost of their own accord, taking her to the body. Kinndy lay face down in a still puddle of her own blood. The crimson stain had tainted her pink hair, matting it, and Jaina realized she wanted to plop Kinndy into a hot bath and help her scrub herself clean, get her a fresh new robe- She fell to her knees and placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder, to turn her over. Kinndy’s body crumbled into shining violet dust. Jaina screamed. She screamed in utter horror, frantically gathering up the crystalline powder that was all that remained of a smart, lively young woman. She screamed in loss, in grief, in guilt, and then most of all, in rage. Rage at the Horde. Rage at Garrosh Hellscream, rage at those who followed him. Rage at Baine Bloodhoof, who had warned her but had nonetheless permitted this to happen. Had perhaps known this was going to happen. Her screaming turned to racking, hoarse sobs that ripped her throat. She kept lifting handfuls of the purple sand, trying to hold on to Kinndy, her sobbing increasing as the dust persisted in trickling through her fingers. This wasn’t war. This wasn’t even murder. This was obliteration, done at a comfortable distance. Killing in the most brutal and cowardly fashion Jaina could conceive of."
Ka Po Chu While reading the story I was hoping against hope she would follow through and wipe that capital of animals from the map, alas no good deed goes unpunished.
Kefka Palazzo it's just too bad she went from how she was in WC3 to being non-existent in WoW, and then this happened in the books and then they gave her character in WoW. It was such a missed opportunity to have something like this told in a good fashion in game.
Ka Po Chu Baine couldn't have done anything though unless she expected that he was okay with letting Garrosh slaughter his own people. Same with Sylvanas now and the reason as to why Saurfang couldn't stand up to her. They both knew no honor and had no qualms making an example out of the innocent.
I'm a Horde player, have always been and always will be. But this... this a completly different story. I can't stop loving and listening to this song. I've set it as my alarm, my tone, I listen to it while I'm studying... I must have heard it over a hundred times and the part when she says "Beware.. of me" still gives the chills.
+Hi It's a callback to Warcraft 3, where Jaina let Rexxar and Thrall attack Theramore. She said along the lines of "I know you have to do this just don't kill my father" and stepped aside. Well he died in battle with his belief in that the horde are the monsters he fought from past wars while Jaina believes the horde under Thrall's command are a good people. His last few words were telling Jaina she doesn't know what she's talking about and someday she'll learn and listen to his words. It was the bombing of Theramore and other things that causes Jaina to doubt the horde and start to hate them. I love this video so much!
Oh I see how it's cool if you know the story. The Aszhara one clicked with me because it told the story clearly. And those drums... I'll need to look more into what the story was with Jaina before I can appreciate the video
Lyrics: Beware, beware, the daughter of the sea, beware I heard him cry. His words carried, upon the ocean breeze, as he sank beneath the tide. I play Horde, however Jaina's story is so sad. This song is so catchy and it gets stuck in my head. She has a beautiful voice. This was the best of the Warbringers series.
I never expected that a level from Warcraft III would support something so beautiful so many years later - it's almost unbelievable. These bits of artistic craftsmanship are why Blizzard was great from the very start.
I think Blizzard should start a WCU (Warcraft Cinematic Universe) similar to the model of the MCU. First, make smaller movies based key individual characters and start working from the ground up to a broader and bigger set of movies that tell larger and more epic stories. The Warcraft movie bit off more than it could chew. Focus on smaller morsels and prioritize quality, and then build up to large scale events. Blizzard have shown they can rock our world with the cinematic trailer for BFA, and with these amazing shorts. I believe they can translate that epicness to the big screen. Just imagine, Sylvanas doing what she did but you're watching her do it in a movie theater in a live action movie.....think about how that would make you feel.
As long as duncan jones has no say in it, it's a guaranteed success. Dude straight up didn't know what he was doing and only wanted to follow Thrall around for a movie franchise when there are much much much more appealing stories and characters.
Not gonna lie, always strikes a chord in me when Jaina's voice quivers when she sings 'because she left his side.' Amazing direction on this, even in the smallest details.
pretty sure it won't get better than this. But I only say that because the sea has a special place in my heart, along with Jaina, so you say I'm pretty biased.
+Rc Addict Dude what? That makes no sense. This video was obviously supposed to be emotional, how does having human emotions mean you have no chance in the real world? Guess what, humans feel things, and there is nothing wrong with saying so. Just because you can get teary eyed over a story that moves you doesn't mean you break down crying half-way during a 14 hour shift.
And now look at the Forums, you only will see hate :( Makes me sad, that people are pissed off by the little things. WoW is still a great Game, and one of the best MMORPGs. And this still after ~15 Years!
Hoshpakk that’s the thing which annoys me so much is that everyone just acknowledges all the little mistakes and then starts hating the game but they never think of the great things and how amazing this game really is
Jaina's evolution is gotta be one of the most heartbreaking ones ive ever experienced with a fictional character. The way WC3's moral voice evolved into a warmongering shadow of herself, thirsting for revenge ... hits me like a rock. And the worst part is - I still kind of sympathize with her. Everyone has a breaking point.
Her story parallels that of her lover, Arthas, both beloved royalty by their peoples, both committed unthinkable acts with the intention of protecting their people. Also both led to their own fathers' deaths (Arthas more directly but still).
Except she's not becoming a monster like Arthas, she was betrayed by those she had attempted to forge a lasting peace with and now seeks to defend her own people from them. Arthas, on the other hand, gave his soul to destroy his enemy, and then slaughtered his own people.
Now that I think of it, her character is rather tragic. She did what she believed was right -- first striving for peace, then vengeance. Yet no matter what she do, Fate lands her in a more awful situation. Losing Arthas, her father, and even Theramore. Beware the Daughter of the Sea indeed, for she has little to lose.
Years later, and she's still paying for everything she has lost. Jaina Proudmoore was someone I admired. I can't help but feel terrible for her when considering how beaten down she looks here. But still, she goes on. Such emotional fortitude; it's almost palpable.
I sat silent, mouth agape throughout this & I didn't even realise it until the end. That music was absolute perfection & I still adore this simple & beautiful animation style. People say this every time but Blizz really needs to make a movie.
They did. And instead of infusing it with the rich and intense Warcraft lore, they instead focused on fight scenes and a rushed awkward romance. Only 2 things turned out well in the movie. Medivh's arc and parts of the Orc's culture. Everything else was trash in terms of storytelling. (unless I'm forgetting something)
I liked the Warcraft movie but yes it was lacking in a lot of areas. Though I will give it credit for how they handled the dialogue scenes between orcs & humans. How you'd be hearing English one moment & then it'd slowly turn into Orcish as a human heard it.
I love this song so much. While I'm not a veteran Wow player, I do follow the lore and enjoy the songs. This song always touches me and sends chills down my spine.
I love Jaina Proudmoore. I know that it is a controversial statement considering the most recent events, but I still see the good in her. For so long she has suffered, her father got himself killed trying to keep her from danger and the entirety of her nation, her own mother and brother included, resent her for being unable to stop him. The man she loved so dearly slowly became a monster before her own eyes, culminating in her helping to end him after so many years. I love jaina, her story is one of the most tragic, third only to Arthas and Illidan respectively. She is a truly powerful character, one who has been weathered by the storms of shattered hopes.
The Sylvanas short feels like someone throwing a tantrum. The Azshara short is very much about reaching for power. The emotion of regret, the pain in this one.... the other two do not compare.
This is why the Sylvanas one is the worst. I still think it's stupid, because Sylvanas should be smarter than that, this was like shooting herself in the foot. I still like the Azshara one the most, maybe I'm a fanboy of the Naga, the drums in it are epic, they remind me of the WC3 cinematic when Illidan calls the naga.
It wasn't a "Warbringers" short, but I'll agree. Saurfang going out to challenge the whole Alliance 1x1 was awesome. As is his knowledge that Sylvanas' policies are wrong...
The Azshara one just.. evoked no sympathy or feeling for the character. It was well done. I get it. But I get the feeling of a proud queen, eventually willing to even sacrifice her people, bartering with an old god for more power. Excellently done. You mention the drums, and you are right to do so; they are both part of the background as well as providing the feeling of being inexorably drawn towards the deal.

I couldn't find the lyrics anywhere so i wrote them down. Hope they are useful to someone. Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea Beware, i heard im cry His words carried upon the ocean breeze as he sank beneath the tide Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor where sailours fought and died The admiral fell at Theramore Because she left his side. Why this? why this, oh Daughter of the Sea? Why this? did you forget your seaside days? Always the pride of our nation's eyes How could she go astray? But there he found upon those distant shore enemies 'pon the rise! But when he faced those savage foes His daughter stood aside And buried deep beneath the waves betrayed by family To his nations, with his last breath, cried Beware the Daughter of the Sea. I... I'm speechless, I've been horde for more years that I can remember and I must accept my ignorance on the lore, I hated Jaina as an enemy of the horde and a powerful foe, but this single video has opened my eyes, I hurt for her.
She stood by thrall and rexxar agaisnt her fqther when he tried to break the peace after the achimonde fight. She's is such a complicated character.... she's seen atrocities happen around her so many times. The purge.... the mount battle, the destruction of theramore.... At this point i'm surprised she has any semblance of lucidity left.
@@TheBloodypimp Well if that future timeline thing happens from that one quest, she won't. Remember there's a quest where you go into the future and the world is basically destroyed and you encounter jaina, except she's nuts and attacks you on sight, though you are able to break through to her and get what you need, but yeah, if that time line is canon she loses her mind eventually.
@@Nyghtking yea that was the End Time Raid. Murozond, an Infinite Dragon allied with Deathwing and the Old Gods, was showing us what the apocalypse will look like if the Old Gods succeed
Blizzard could totally be on top of the cinematic universe if they use not live action but pure animated films... With a God of War style of animation for example. Live action drains a lot of the essence from the characters imho. Imagine a BFA intro but extended into a movie.... or a WotLK movie... pretty sure tears of joy will overwhelm theaters... even on people who doesn't know a thing about Warcraft Universe. I guess 99% of the people enjoyed more the BFA intro than what they feel watching the Warcraft movie, thats what I mean by "essence". It is my humble opinion by the way :)
Rolando Fernández Not really. Blizzard cant even handle their lore well enough these days. At best, they can create shorts and some rule of cool rather than overarching stories
Thats just loads of money... even a couple of mins that quality cinematic costs shitloads let alone a full over an hour movie. I agree it would be cool, but that would be big risk for studios as its not so mainstream, they tried it with live action and failed :D
RR Hemmington hard to say it failed it, it was a good movie. The problem is everyone i asked to go watch it said, isn't that movie for nerds. The same people bought it on dvd. Like lol. They should have gave it a better name, and only showed the humans in the trailer perspective. People would've flocked.
I'm sure she is angry, but to be fair she's in the middle of the sea and being guided by a creepy vision of her dead father. Certainly sounds like possible N'zoth involvement to me. Blizzard are never good at conveying reason for actions or exploring human emotion and its impact on how a character acts. Typically the character is given a defined stereotype and thats it. Look at a lot of Sylvannas' actions, the reasons are very weak and not elaborated on and ultimately it comes across as war for the sake of war a lot of the time as does the back and forth between horde and alliance. Oh we just combined forces to take down this big badass? Nevermind lets start fighting again cos reasons. Anyway my point is its not often there's between the lines stuff with blizz, what you see is usually what you get and there are definitely hints here that old gods could be a factor. If anything her anger would just make her easier to corrupt which makes the whole theory even more plausible.
People are saying of Old Gods because Admiral has been dead for more than a decade and the Old Gods use the guise of a beloved one's spirit. Like Yogg Saron did impersonating Syf's spirit.
deirhese66 in Warcraft Chronicles 3 it's mentioned that a lot of conflicts that in game we considered to be minor like Gnolls and Kobolds was caused by the Old Gods, it pretty much implied everything is to do with the Old Gods in some form. So N'zoth contacting Jaina in some way follows what Chronicles 3 has tried to portray.
Well... she travelled to the Easter Kingdom far from his homeland where she met Arthas and they became lovers. Soon Arthas got affected by the Lich King's spirit so Jaina had to help with stopping him. It ended with Arthas's death ( see : Wrath of the Lich King). Many of his friends for example Kael'thas original leader of the blood elves turned evil and got killed. But that's not all of her friends who got killed After that Jaina kept seeking the peace between the Alliance and Horde along with the Kirin Tor's help. . It's the biggest mage organization which is dedicated to unite all the fractions who wants to study the arcane arts. Later the Admiral Proudmore ( Jaina's father) lead a campaign against the Horde. I don't know it's reason but Jaina decided not to help his father in order to preserve the peace between the Alliance and Horde. I don't have to say that because of her 'betrayal" his father died by the hands of the orcs. So the next move was Theramore Isle which was Jaina's property. There she set up a perfect goverment where she ruled. She had a mage tower in the middle of the town where she taught some apprentices. Garosh the new leader of the Horde then decided to bring war to Kalimdor ... so he dropped a giant arcane bomb on the city. Rhonin the friend of Jaina and the leader of the Kirin Tor sacraficed himself there in order to save Jaina. Sadly the other citizens and Jaina's apprentices died there. So no love or friends or people for Jaina. After that she became the leader of the Kirin Tor which got taken from her hands by Khadgar cuz after all the trouble she had she decided not to take back the horde's mage into the Kirin Tor. So she was a diplomat of peace for almost 10-15 years and gained NOTHING from that and lost EVERYTHING. She has one of the most traggic story in the WoW and now she seeks war not peace. With a very good reason though i still hope that she won't become an evil vilain...

No mate this team deserves every single Movie Award possible coz i felt more emotions in 4:45 than i have watching 3 hour long movies

Make of it what you will.
"Her heart is a crater and we have filled it"
That the writers are so bad at their job that they can't get simple throwback to Warcraft 3 lore right?
I see that now."
Don't bash their writers because it flies over your head.
I don't care about the game anymore. But the visuals, audio and storytelling of Blizzard cinematics are still unmatched.
The lore has always been my favorite part of Warcraft

Dont know much about story or audio. But cinematics are definetly better in FFXIV than this powerpoint slideshow. Or any of those trailers for each expansion.
i stopped playing long ago after WOTLK yet i always a faithful follower of it's lore... Warcraft universe is AMAZING, i could spend a whole day just binge reading all of the character stories, events, etc in Wiki page
Then came the N'zoth finale.
I've never played WoW in my life and this trailer managed to give me chills despite not having a clue about any of the backstory.

Honestly, just playing Warcraft 3 and its expansion, Frozen Throne, will get you a lot of the backstory. They are Single Player games (with Multiplayer modes) and quite good.
Don't even have to play the game. Read the book "Tides of War". It tells a big part of Jaina's story
Every cinematic thing Blizzard makes gives me chills at some point. I get the feeling they've got a "chills"-guy

That’s gonna be an F in chat from me, a life long Horde player
She has not just lost, she also failed all those things. She stood 'aside' too often.
No matter what she has rebuilt, it has fallen apart. In the end, only her roots, her family and country, seem to be what can really bring any notion of peace. And it would seem that peace could only happen after she returned home and submitted herself for judgment.
These things happen to evil people.

Roshea you're beast
This looks like wotlk cinematic
Her daddy attacked Durotar when they were at peace. Everything that followed is just a convenient excuse to blame the Horde for this conflict
thaloh with good reason. her father had seen the savage of the horde during the first invasion. he know the true nature of the horde and there will never be peace. and the horde right now is proving him right again and again.
GGTeMpLaR Actually she said "Father... why wouldn't you listen?"
Long story short: Jaina had to choose between war and her father's death. She chose her father's death. Then she still had war.
@Johto Ironically, those people actually being Blizzard - constantly shoehorning a faction conflict at all costs, because they can't seem to figure out that the "war" in Warcraft doesn't always have to be Horde vs. Alliance all the time no matter what.

Lament of the Highborne variation?? Elven language?
It's easy to think that this is a canon shanty sung by Alliance sailors in Kalimdor and Jaina's probably heard it often.
Iirc Flynn Fairwind sings a few verses in prison.

She says "I'm listening now," to signify she is ready to go to war. She now believes peace is unattainable, as her father told her many years ago.
your not reading to far at all.
She wanted to destroy all of Orgrimmar. That seems pretty direct.
You're not looking too much into it at all. You're right.
It is a common writing trope to use dialogue in this manner.
If Blizzard ever decided to get into the animated movie game they would give Disney and Pixar a run for their money for sure
true
As someone who works for Disney, I totally agree. The problem is I think Blizzard just doesn't have quite the proper funds to promote such a project. I would love it tho!

The fact that blizzard made me feel bad about killing Jaina's father in wc3 even if i hated his guts for years by watching a 4 min video deserves praise.
Achievementsish I still hate admiral proudmoore's guts
Daelin Proudmoore wouldn't listen to reason and allowed his past experiences to blind him to the fact that The Horde had changed.
Jaina abandoned both Arthas and her father, don't feel bad man.
The fact that it makes me feel the death of Admiral Proudmoore is justification enough for the nation to hide away from the world for 14 years is an achievement.
prideofasia99 ...or did it?
Being the daughter of a deceased sailor (and though he didn’t lose his life at sea) this short resonates with me in a way I never expected
Thrall and Jaina fought for peace.
What did Thrall get?
A wife. A good stable job with the Earthen Ring and a chance to walk away.
What did Jaina get? A dead city. A broken heart. And anger. So much anger
she has every right to be angry the horde under grommash hellscream manabombed the very nation she tried to uphold peace. and she lost her apprentice and Rhonin her dear dear friend.
ok but A president does not define the people of said country... so ...
In the end he killed the son of his best friend whom saved his life, to uphold the peace on Azeroth, and although Garrosh went to the dark side, Thrall was still the closest thing to a father that Garrosh had, so i'd argue that he ain't too happy and dandy character.
because the horde ARE savages and have always been. they cant blame alliance for anything because they started everything.
"I understand more than you suspect, my dear. Perhaps in time, you will too."
- Admiral Daelin Proudmoore
Nice man.Now i want to click on the beasts in warcraft 3.
A hellbent crusader, fixated on his hatred of the orcs and the horde.
Definitely, which is why she turned away from him. But after all the horde have put Jaina through, she's starting to believe he was right.
Not what the Horde put her through. What Garrosh did. Garrosh manabombed everything she loved, the horde did not.
They must be exterminated like the mongrels they are!"
Jaina: "I won't let you do it, father. You don't understand!"
Admiral Proudmoore: "I understand more than you suspect, my dear. Perhaps in time, you will too."
A storyline 15 years in the making.
Yup, I think its going to be good. When I played warcraft 2 years ago. I didn't think of the story much. But just imaging how the horde was with their bloodlust and the acts they did during the first and second war. It is hard to forgive. Admiral Proudmoore had his reasons for his hatred.
One manabomb later....
and a bell later
Yup, guess those guys didn't help save all of Azeroth or anything.
He may have warned kul tiras of his daughter but he understood and never stopped loving her :'(

that's true. i hope hat at some point in time Blizz will create animated movies of WoW

The pure contradition between this masterpiece and the absurd conclusion of BfA still baffles me.
same. it must be hard for the artist see the proyects be a dissaster at the end bcs of bad direction and storitelling.
@@Gaben38 alliance has way better racials. Also the BFA story was bad for everyone, not just alliance.
@@JacksonJinn It wasn't the entire horde that burned down the tree. It's a fairly rough deal for them all to be branded with it.
Blizzard wanted to have their cake and eat it so they had both the faction war and the Black Empire invasion in the same expansion. In my honest opinion, the should have probably stuck with just one story.
"My father once told me, that peace was like a dream... Beautiful. Ephemeral. Unattainable. I didn't listen..."
"... I'm listening now ... Father..."
Richard Shepherd cool connection. freaking love jaina's story.
"Why didn't you listen?"
-Jaina, crying over the body of her father in WCIII
a little girl didnt listen to his father and then regret, seems like each one of us
It's like pottery, it rhymes
Her hypocrisy and self-righteous deprivation continues. She chose to became a war criminal. She chose to drench her hands in the blood of the innocent. She chose to let families and children be burned to ash. She chose to round up and execute people because of their race alone. She can’t die soon enough.
Please make a straight song version of this.
It’d be really cool to hear to hear this randomly playing in Kul’Tiran taverns from time to time.
Selwrynn omg yes please
Selwrynn the ONLY good part about this song is her singing at the end.
Pain cool opinion bro
I heard someone say this song might be on the soundtrack CD of BfA, but I'm not 100% sure.
Actually, it is in game, and kul tirans do indeed sing it from time to time
I've listened to this song so many freaking times now, it just keeps getting better!
agree
it gets more painful, hit harder , and sounds more epic every time, doesn't it ? I mean I'm a Hordie, but I've watched this endlessly, while I''ve maybe watched Sylvanas' twice
true true ture with the background music it get more better
You're listening now, huh?
I am!! :D

Thanks for reading!
lurven141 thanks!
thanks!
I respect your efforts, Lurven.
Thanks for the backstory 👍
Which is why her still wanting to destroy the Horde after Garrosh's fall feels weird to me. Either she really was corrupted by the Old Gods or her character development took a weird turn. She should know most of the Horde aren't vicious killers.
"I'm listening now.. father" The look on her face as she finally yields hope. Like a star flickering out in the night sky :(
"Beware, beware the Daughter of the Seas."
"Beware," I heard him cry.
His words carried upon the ocean breeze,
As he sank beneath the tide.
Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor,
Where sailors fought and died.
The admiral fell at Theramore,
because she left his side.
Why this? Why this oh Daughter of the Seas?
Why this? Did you forget your seaside days?
Always the pride of our nation's eyes,
How could she go astray?
When she did flee across the ocean deep,
the admiral followed west.
What else but sail to save his daughter's life,
and pray she still drew breath?
But there he found upon those distant shores,
Enemies 'on the rise!
But when he faced those savage foes
His daughter stood aside.
And buried deep beneath the waves,
Betrayed by family.
To his nation, with his last breath, cried,
"Beware the Daughter of the Seas."
I heard, I heard, across a moonlit sea,
The old voice warning me.
Beware, beware, the Daughter of the Seas,
Beware, Beware, of me.
"but there he found upon those distant shores" might wanna change that
just did it a few mins ago, should see it if you refresh. But ty :)
sweet, nice work btw
Pablo Naranjo add the last line
" Beware Beware , Beware of me "
Pablo Naranjo Thanks for the information! It's very helpful!
I'd watch a 3 hour movie of that
2 years later this still gives me chills
Me too
How about 4?
I'm f*cking crying, dude. Despite the fact that I'm playing for the horde. This thing is so emotional.
Jaina became one of the best done characters along with Arthas and Illidan. Great job Blizzard.
uuuhmm... naaah brah !
Nope. Illidan was wasted the day they decided to recycle him in full marvel style.
Jaina becamejust a raging lunatic.
Arthas, not being rebooted, just stayd the one good character he was.

The only good character left is Millhouse Manastorm.
I feel like the music team and voice actress should get some individual credits for this. Love this so much.
reikoshea laura bailey is amazing.
That's definitely Laura singing.
Is it Laura Bailey? I mean I figured she would have recorded this well before she have her son but there’s nothing saying she is a part of bfa
Yes its her, look on her twitter, she wrote that the song was SO MUCH FUN to record :D love Laura, she is really the best.
Yeah. She's always voiced Jaina and she did a song for critical roll at the end of campaign 1, this is her for sure.
Great singing Laura Bailey!
Gave me chills
Almost as good as Sarah Greene doing The Parting Glass at the end of AC4:Black Flag. Almost. Like, a hair's breadth.
But overall... everyone involved? Tops even the best LotR end credits.
Someone else sang it. Laura Bailey does the voice normally.
I'm fairly certain that Laura Bailey sings in the beginning and at the end of the song, but not in the middle part where the music gets higher.
I think Laura sings in the beginning and the end. (really good!) And the middle part is more like a story that is sung about her. Maybe from her mother( jainas mother)? I don't remember her mothers voice that good
This cinematic was better than entire BFA expansion.
Sad but true bfa would be way more better we had N'zoth (the worst fight ever seen) and more...

Glad you're having a good time with it :) Welcome back to the zoo
Exactly that happened to me now, getting back after 14 years... Glad I noticed that chest along the way:)
Theriomancer Agreed!! I think we can all agree that Sylvanas stopped being 'morally grey' a _long_ time ago.

BLIZZARD DON'T GO TO HOLLYWOOD! MAKE YOUR OWN MOVIE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
What about warcraft?
They went to Hollywood for that. Legendary Pictures.
They should do their own animated films. Just look at WoW's cinematic trailers !
Dartharion that would be amazing
But too expencive. Thats why they went to Hollywood.
Quoted from the book "Tides of War", after the goblin aircraft dropped the mana bomb on Garrosh's order,
"The shape looked like a child at first, which was what drew Jaina’s eye. The children had all been evacuated safely. Who-
And then she knew.
Jaina stood, barely breathing, wanting to look away but unable to. Slowly, jerkily, her feet moved, almost of their own accord, taking her to the body.
Kinndy lay face down in a still puddle of her own blood. The crimson stain had tainted her pink hair, matting it, and Jaina realized she wanted to plop Kinndy into a hot bath and help her scrub herself clean, get her a fresh new robe-
She fell to her knees and placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder, to turn her over.
UH MUH GUD GORROSH HUUULSCRUM! lol. also i feel really sad... for that gnome.
I will never forget when I read that bit, one of the parts that really stayed with me, and ultimately convinced me Jaina was justified in her rage.
I must have heard it over a hundred times and the part when she says "Beware.. of me" still gives the chills.
that "Beware Beware.. of me" if you wipe her fight in the raid will haunt me to my grave

I have no idea what is even going on in this one. The Azhara one gave me chills

Ikue P Yeah Blizzard dont want to tosh 160 millions into trash again.
As long as duncan jones has no say in it, it's a guaranteed success. Dude straight up didn't know what he was doing and only wanted to follow Thrall around for a movie franchise when there are much much much more appealing stories and characters.
did you see the box office income from that movie? it gained back that money almost threefold, only in US was it not an success.
Probs going to mess it up just like most of there story
US “fans” killed any chances on future Warcraft based movies...thanks a lot
It's been 5 years now and this song still breaks my heart..
Laura Bailey's voice is so pretty. Perfect for this equally beautiful short.
I want a Jester voice cover of this, especially since her mother is The Ruby of the Sea.
That would be lovely.
Not gonna lie, always strikes a chord in me when Jaina's voice quivers when she sings 'because she left his side.' Amazing direction on this, even in the smallest details.
Laura Bailey is so amazing as voice actor for Jaina. Really makes the character.
I'm certain it isn't her actually singing the song. At the start and end it is definitely her.
Of course it's not her in the middle, that's a man singing the rest to and about her
And here I am, two years later, singing this to my son, rocking him to sleep...
If you didn't name you son Arthas then we can't be friends :(
That's wonderful, hahaha
You: “Beware…beware…of me”

pretty sure it won't get better than this.
But I only say that because the sea has a special place in my heart, along with Jaina, so you say I'm pretty biased.

+Rc Addict
Dude what? That makes no sense. This video was obviously supposed to be emotional, how does having human emotions mean you have no chance in the real world?
Guess what, humans feel things, and there is nothing wrong with saying so.
Just because you can get teary eyed over a story that moves you doesn't mean you break down crying half-way during a 14 hour shift.
chills, literal chills
This is one of, if not THE, best things Blizzard has ever done and makes me glad I am a fan of this game and franchise.
yeah no doubt this is just brilliant
same honestly, this song and video (and especially the ending) just gives me chills
And now look at the Forums, you only will see hate :( Makes me sad, that people are pissed off by the little things. WoW is still a great Game, and one of the best MMORPGs. And this still after ~15 Years!
Hoshpakk that’s the thing which annoys me so much is that everyone just acknowledges all the little mistakes and then starts hating the game but they never think of the great things and how amazing this game really is
Agreed. This is beautiful.
Everyone has a breaking point.
kinda followed Arthas in that way. she is slowly becoming what she once despised.
Her story parallels that of her lover, Arthas, both beloved royalty by their peoples, both committed unthinkable acts with the intention of protecting their people. Also both led to their own fathers' deaths (Arthas more directly but still).
maybe, but i think it is fair to say she went from making rational morally just decisions to warmongering faster than most
Except she's not becoming a monster like Arthas, she was betrayed by those she had attempted to forge a lasting peace with and now seeks to defend her own people from them. Arthas, on the other hand, gave his soul to destroy his enemy, and then slaughtered his own people.
Someone forgot about Sylvanas it seems
This song gives me goosebumps every time, and occasionally gives me misty eyes
This song always touches me and sends chills down my spine.
wow has some good sore doesnt it

I love Jaina Proudmoore. I know that it is a controversial statement considering the most recent events, but I still see the good in her. For so long she has suffered, her father got himself killed trying to keep her from danger and the entirety of her nation, her own mother and brother included, resent her for being unable to stop him. The man she loved so dearly slowly became a monster before her own eyes, culminating in her helping to end him after so many years. I love jaina, her story is one of the most tragic, third only to Arthas and Illidan respectively. She is a truly powerful character, one who has been weathered by the storms of shattered hopes.
So much loss could turn anyone jaded and cruel in the end if they're not careful or have the right support, fiction or real life.
Old Soldier steals the show. Now there’s some regret and conviction.
+ashley cross Anduin want peace when it suit him? Hello? Have you play WotLK? cata? mop? legion? as alliance member? it was sometime annoying how he always want peace no matter what, he was male version of Jaina.
@@Nyghtking Given that we specifically stopped that timeline by killing Deathwing, clearly it isn't canon
@@Nyghtking yea that was the End Time Raid. Murozond, an Infinite Dragon allied with Deathwing and the Old Gods, was showing us what the apocalypse will look like if the Old Gods succeed
@@shoka_01 In case you didn't know, Murozond is Nozdormu, the Bronze Dragonflight leader. It was so cool they did that, personally.
You probably don't know how much money and time even short trailers like the expansion release ones cost / take.
Khalduras so much this
Love how people think someone is Old god corrupted just because someone is angry. Can humans not be humans?
Like Yogg Saron did impersonating Syf's spirit.
no human be orc and orc be human
Stop this bullshit already, Blizzard itself confirmed thousands of times she is not a dreadlord, get over it, you people love conspiracy.
deirhese66 in Warcraft Chronicles 3 it's mentioned that a lot of conflicts that in game we considered to be minor like Gnolls and Kobolds was caused by the Old Gods, it pretty much implied everything is to do with the Old Gods in some form. So N'zoth contacting Jaina in some way follows what Chronicles 3 has tried to portray.
I hope one day Jaina earned some peace and happiness. Poor girl suffered and sacrificed enough already.
what happened to her? thanks
Well... she travelled to the Easter Kingdom far from his homeland where she met Arthas and they became lovers.
Aldway yeah she’s a real tragic hero. In a way I could see this happening to any1. To think all she ever wanted to do was study.
Great explanation !! tks for your sharing

The art in these stories are insane but this one in particular is so beautiful and grand
