Yes her killing these night elves and burning the tree... there was a very important reason for why she did this. A key to let you know good this is... Sylvanas is a key and essential player in helping us save all of Azeroth inhabitants. And worst/best of all, Sylvanas is not who she was thought to be, but who she was displayed to be, was very necessary. Now it was needed for us to not see this coming. Letting you know now, there’s a lot of distractions that took place in legion and bfa. A lot of the lore for Sylvanas in those expansions were just results of what she was actually doing in secret and a little of it was personal. These all were distractions though. But there were hints placed in each cinema and in quest lines for bfa and legion to let us know what was going on.

Even after all these years, The Warbringer animations are my favorite ones. They set the tone for BFA so superbly :) I'm just sorry BFA never lived up to the quality storytelling promised by the animations.

2:33 the line “you’ll soon join your loved ones” is very interesting coming from Sylvanas considering she can’t just die. She can’t ever escape her suffering, even in death. She’s envious and full of rage. I don’t disagree she’s evil.. but her character arc is tragic and harrowing.
Sylvanas, along with Illidan, and maybe Jaina, are the only characters with a somehow deep psychology. Like, they've lived through things and made conclusions out of their experiencies. They act like the characters that lived through what they have lived, and really aim a certain goal.

Sylvanas is not morally grey and I think this proves it. People are calling her "Garrosh 2.0" but those people are wrong. Very wrong. Dead wrong. She's Arthas 2.0. She's finally become the thing that she hated the most. What is the ethical difference between Sylvanas burning the Great Tree and Arthas burning Stratholme? At least Arthas had the excuse of "these people are poisoned and will turn into the undead". Sylvanas was told that the only people inside the Tree were innocents and non combatants...but she burned it anyway. ...Actually upon reflection this makes her WORSE than Arthas ._. EDIT: I know that Arthas did more than burn Stratholme. I was just comparing apples to apples here since both of them wound up burning some major city. Arthas' worst deeds were leaving soldiers to die in Northrend by destroying their ships home and then blaming hired Mercenaries for it so they are summarily executed by Arthas' soldiers. Arthas also lusted for the power to destroy demons and dreadlords and got it with the power of Frostmourne which further corrupted him and lead him down the path of the Lich King and killed his own father. But let's not pretend for a second that Sylvanas wouldn't sacrifice what little humanity she has left for more power or that if her parents were still alive she'd find some way to justify them. She's a stone cold killer and war monger who's been slowly developed to be the monster she sought out to destroy all along. It's a great development for a character! She's a prime villain but she's essentially become another Arthas. I expect her to eventually retreat and come into contact with Bolvar somehow.

This doesn't justify any of her actions at all. She saw her kind die when Arthas invades, so she does something nearly identical to the night elves? She's just become the next Arthas/Garrosh
The Horde can still be savage while at the same time being honorable, those are not antagonistic qualities with Sauerfang being the perfect example. Take the scenario that happens above, he effectively and savagely attacks and destroys the nightelf military forces with little restrain, yet his orders during the attack on Lor'Danel were to extract the civilians from the fight, interrogate them and then let them go unharmed.
Well, to be fair, back in orcs and humans and warcraft 2 the Horde was definitely evil, the point was that players could play as the bad guys, which almost never happened in games at the time and was a welcome change from constantly playing as pure hearted heroes. The Horde has never acted like they were morally upright, they prize freedom and strength. The one thing the Horde has over the Alliance is that they don't pretend to be something they are not, the Alliance had more problems with infiltration, corruption, and betrayal. Usually when the Horde goes bad, they are honest about it and don't bother to hide or pretend to be holier than thou.

I liked the video but the flashback was incorrect, Sylvanas didn't charge in heroically. She ran away a crapload of times until she was caught, then she begged for a quick death, which Arthas refused to give her because she pissed him off.
Well we can assume this was her last stand. And they couldn't have reused that dialogue, nor remake it... so I think it's best that they just skipped it.
Don't forget that the reason she burns the tree in the game is completely different to what they show in the video. They can't keep faithfull to the lore they wrote literally less than a year ago.
Well factions or leaders who always were on good terms: Thrall - Vol'Jin - Cairne. Lor'themar - Sylvanas. All of them wore a good team. But i don't know what Blizzard is thinking nowaday, everyone seems to hate everyone.

@@darthrevan5609 The problem with that is um, he was using lich king powers in the cinematic. Throughout legion he was sitting on icecream citadel powering up. Empowering his death knight bois and finding some cool undead artifacts. Lich king is not that powerful of an entity, it's his army that is. Sylvanas should've had some of her loyalists and bolvar should've had death knights like four horseman and stuff. Big scale battle for icc with sylvanas eventually reaching the top and 1v2ing bolar and his death knight champion who both together doesn't get like totally rekted but like medium rekted.

Why shouldn't the Horde be antagonized? The core of the faction consists of uncivilized brute races, which prefer solving problems with brute force and power, ofc they are the baddies.
Remember the founding of Orgrimmar campaign? Admiral Proudmoore was the baddie there, not the Horde. This is what we wanted, something truly morally grey.

Not even the Orcs, they were used by Sargeras when they were an invading force in Azeroth. After Thrall liberated them from the human internment camps they really only wanted a place to live, and found it in Kalimdor along with the natives there who joined them.

All the build up to the Teldrassil burning, and it was just Sylvannas being a stereotypical villain? Oh. Well, the art was beautiful and the voice acting was convincing. Hopefully, filling the gaps in the storyline will make it more interesting.
This would have been fine if it happened last week. The episodic build up is just making us wait for things that we already know happen. They've told us the ending, and then make us wait for the story to unfold, but it unfolds with no surprises. It would honestly be fine if they just told it all at once. This way however, just ends up being awkward.

Wild speculation? Wild speculation would be if we saw a screenshot of teldrassil burning, before we knew the plot of the expansion and began to guess at who did it. Blizz had already told us that Teldrassil gets burned down, and the horde did it. All the material including films and comics etc, seem to point to Sylvanas being completely evil now. She lead a campaign across Kalimdor destroying several towns. At that point, we leave the realm of wild speculation, and fall safely within the confines of common sense. They ended last weeks event hanging, but already told us what happened next. You can't expect people to be blown away, when you then reveal exactly what you told them they'd be seeing. That's all.
I'm good with Sylvannas making the call. But making the call on a whim, just to be nasty? Takes two seconds to write that, and one second to process it. It's the World Tree, the potential for a good backstory is phenomenal. So I hope I'm missing something.
I honestly have no problems with what unfolded. I'm excited to see what this means for the horde, and if this means some kind of radical shift is coming (I hope so!) I just think that delivering this into small chunks of content that amount to 15 minutes of gameplay per week, is spoiling it. I would way rather have played through the whole thing in one shot last Tuesday, instead of playing through half, getting bored for a week, having the cinematic spoiled for me, then playing through another 15 mins of content only to watch it again. Cool content, poorly delivered IMO.

there also wasn't only 3-4 elf archers shooting at 15 undeads with Arthas... it's for visuals. and elfs, hunters, know how to handle the close combat fights, hence the 2 daggers everyone is wearing, surprise?

"Life is pain. Hope fails." So she's trying to save people from pain by ending their lives. Gotta squeeze that last scintilla of possibility that Vol'jin was right, but he probably trolling.
I always felt I understood Sylvanas. Destroy the Lich King, spend the unlife forced upon her to take revenge on the one who did so much harm. Then choosing to stay around afterwards to protect the people who looked to her from alliance zealots and from a warchief who viewed them as worse than cannonfodder. She did some truly horrible things in pursuit of those goals, sure, but I got it and I could see why her people followed her. The BFA cinematic and the explanation for the War of Thorns seemed to imply that she was, to a lesser extent, transferring some of that desire to protect the Forsaken at all costs to the rest of the Horde. And I was behind that. I was behind her. But...now? That was a petulant, childish act. I was hoping for a more imaginative reason for the world tree burning - a story twist beyond the obvious as we were promised - but this is somehow so much worse than if she'd planned to burn it all along. This was a spiteful, petty act. That wasn't For The Horde, that was just for her. I've always been a huge fan of the Banshee Queen. I don't think she was a good pick for Warchief, but I thought that that could have made for a good story in itself. Someone used to working in the shadows forced to lead from the front and split her focus. But what I saw here wasn't a Warchief. It wasn't even a Queen or a Ranger General. It was a child, about as far away from a complex shades-of-grey character as I could imagine. Disappointed. Very disappointed.
Burning down a city? Slaughtering countless innocents? Forcing your allies to aid you over their objections? Declaring a war on life? Well done Sylvanas. I'm honestly impressed. I did not think you had it in you. Arthas would be so proud.

2:33 the line “you’ll soon join your loved ones” is very interesting coming from Sylvanas considering she can’t just die. She can’t ever escape her suffering, even in death. She’s envious and full of rage. I don’t disagree she’s evil.. but her character arc is tragic and harrowing.
Sylvanas, along with Illidan, and maybe Jaina, are the only characters with a somehow deep psychology. Like, they've lived through things and made conclusions out of their experiencies. They act like the characters that lived through what they have lived, and really aim a certain goal.

I agree. I like Sylvanas I really do but this was just awful. I never thought I would see her following the path of Arthas. To see Sylvanas, the former Ranger general of Quel'thalas and the leader of a Forsaken people turn from morally gray to straight evil is sad.

Sylvanas is not morally grey and I think this proves it.
People are calling her "Garrosh 2.0" but those people are wrong. Very wrong. Dead wrong. She's Arthas 2.0. She's finally become the thing that she hated the most.
What is the ethical difference between Sylvanas burning the Great Tree and Arthas burning Stratholme? At least Arthas had the excuse of "these people are poisoned and will turn into the undead". Sylvanas was told that the only people inside the Tree were innocents and non combatants...but she burned it anyway.
...Actually upon reflection this makes her WORSE than Arthas ._.
EDIT: I know that Arthas did more than burn Stratholme. I was just comparing apples to apples here since both of them wound up burning some major city.
Arthas' worst deeds were leaving soldiers to die in Northrend by destroying their ships home and then blaming hired Mercenaries for it so they are summarily executed by Arthas' soldiers.
Arthas also lusted for the power to destroy demons and dreadlords and got it with the power of Frostmourne which further corrupted him and lead him down the path of the Lich King and killed his own father.
But let's not pretend for a second that Sylvanas wouldn't sacrifice what little humanity she has left for more power or that if her parents were still alive she'd find some way to justify them.
She's a stone cold killer and war monger who's been slowly developed to be the monster she sought out to destroy all along. It's a great development for a character! She's a prime villain but she's essentially become another Arthas. I expect her to eventually retreat and come into contact with Bolvar somehow.

The Horde can still be savage while at the same time being honorable, those are not antagonistic qualities with Sauerfang being the perfect example. Take the scenario that happens above, he effectively and savagely attacks and destroys the nightelf military forces with little restrain, yet his orders during the attack on Lor'Danel were to extract the civilians from the fight, interrogate them and then let them go unharmed.

Well, to be fair, back in orcs and humans and warcraft 2 the Horde was definitely evil, the point was that players could play as the bad guys, which almost never happened in games at the time and was a welcome change from constantly playing as pure hearted heroes. The Horde has never acted like they were morally upright, they prize freedom and strength. The one thing the Horde has over the Alliance is that they don't pretend to be something they are not, the Alliance had more problems with infiltration, corruption, and betrayal. Usually when the Horde goes bad, they are honest about it and don't bother to hide or pretend to be holier than thou.
It's interesting that so far both the warbringers have been poked by Arthas in one way or another...

I liked the video but the flashback was incorrect, Sylvanas didn't charge in heroically. She ran away a crapload of times until she was caught, then she begged for a quick death, which Arthas refused to give her because she pissed him off.

Let's take a moment to appreciate that as a *normal elf ranger* Sylvanas gave Arthas the Lich King such a fight that he wanted to make her suffer forever. That's why I can't understand people who doubt that as an undead banshee with nothing left but rage and fight, she could beat Bolvar Fordragon, who is, remember, a generally good guy who was certainly not going to release the Scourge to fight her.

@@darthrevan5609 The problem with that is um, he was using lich king powers in the cinematic. Throughout legion he was sitting on icecream citadel powering up. Empowering his death knight bois and finding some cool undead artifacts. Lich king is not that powerful of an entity, it's his army that is. Sylvanas should've had some of her loyalists and bolvar should've had death knights like four horseman and stuff. Big scale battle for icc with sylvanas eventually reaching the top and 1v2ing bolar and his death knight champion who both together doesn't get like totally rekted but like medium rekted.

Not even the Orcs, they were used by Sargeras when they were an invading force in Azeroth. After Thrall liberated them from the human internment camps they really only wanted a place to live, and found it in Kalimdor along with the natives there who joined them.

All the build up to the Teldrassil burning, and it was just Sylvannas being a stereotypical villain?
Oh. Well, the art was beautiful and the voice acting was convincing. Hopefully, filling the gaps in the storyline will make it more interesting.
This would have been fine if it happened last week. The episodic build up is just making us wait for things that we already know happen. They've told us the ending, and then make us wait for the story to unfold, but it unfolds with no surprises.
It would honestly be fine if they just told it all at once. This way however, just ends up being awkward.

Wild speculation? Wild speculation would be if we saw a screenshot of teldrassil burning, before we knew the plot of the expansion and began to guess at who did it.
Blizz had already told us that Teldrassil gets burned down, and the horde did it. All the material including films and comics etc, seem to point to Sylvanas being completely evil now. She lead a campaign across Kalimdor destroying several towns. At that point, we leave the realm of wild speculation, and fall safely within the confines of common sense.
They ended last weeks event hanging, but already told us what happened next. You can't expect people to be blown away, when you then reveal exactly what you told them they'd be seeing. That's all.
I'm good with Sylvannas making the call. But making the call on a whim, just to be nasty? Takes two seconds to write that, and one second to process it. It's the World Tree, the potential for a good backstory is phenomenal. So I hope I'm missing something.
I honestly have no problems with what unfolded. I'm excited to see what this means for the horde, and if this means some kind of radical shift is coming (I hope so!) I just think that delivering this into small chunks of content that amount to 15 minutes of gameplay per week, is spoiling it.
I would way rather have played through the whole thing in one shot last Tuesday, instead of playing through half, getting bored for a week, having the cinematic spoiled for me, then playing through another 15 mins of content only to watch it again.

Dumb artistic decision. The way she originally died in WC3 is her trying to pull one last arrow to shoot at Arthas, but Arthas being too quick and slicing her.
there also wasn't only 3-4 elf archers shooting at 15 undeads with Arthas... it's for visuals. and elfs, hunters, know how to handle the close combat fights, hence the 2 daggers everyone is wearing, surprise?

I always felt I understood Sylvanas. Destroy the Lich King, spend the unlife forced upon her to take revenge on the one who did so much harm. Then choosing to stay around afterwards to protect the people who looked to her from alliance zealots and from a warchief who viewed them as worse than cannonfodder. She did some truly horrible things in pursuit of those goals, sure, but I got it and I could see why her people followed her. The BFA cinematic and the explanation for the War of Thorns seemed to imply that she was, to a lesser extent, transferring some of that desire to protect the Forsaken at all costs to the rest of the Horde. And I was behind that. I was behind her.
But...now? That was a petulant, childish act. I was hoping for a more imaginative reason for the world tree burning - a story twist beyond the obvious as we were promised - but this is somehow so much worse than if she'd planned to burn it all along. This was a spiteful, petty act. That wasn't For The Horde, that was just for her.
I've always been a huge fan of the Banshee Queen. I don't think she was a good pick for Warchief, but I thought that that could have made for a good story in itself. Someone used to working in the shadows forced to lead from the front and split her focus. But what I saw here wasn't a Warchief. It wasn't even a Queen or a Ranger General. It was a child, about as far away from a complex shades-of-grey character as I could imagine.
Disappointed. Very disappointed.
