    ELEGOO Saturn MSLA 3D Printer UV Photo curing LCD Resin 3D Printer with 4K Monochrome LCD, Matrix UV LED Light Source, Off-Line, and WLAN Print,192x120x200mm / 7.55x4.72x7.87inch Printing Size
    Faster printing speed
    Saturn 3D printer comes with an 8.9inch 4K Monochrome LCD with an HD resolution of 3840 x 2400, reducing the layer printing time to 1.5s-2s, which is 60% faster than Mars Pro yet still delivers outstanding printing results.
    Larger build volume
    Saturn has a large printing volume of 192*120*200mm/7.55in*4.72in*7.87in, and you can print multiple full-sized models at the same time, which can dramatically improve your productivity.
    Higher precision and easier printing
    Z-axis utilizes a double linear guide-way structure, which can achieve steadier motion and greatly enhanced moving accuracy. With the Ethernet port on the back and 4 GB built-in data disk, Saturn now supports file transfer through your local area network, which is very handy for fast printing.
    Quality Prints and Consistent Success
    Matrix light source consists of 54 UV LED lights with uniform light emission, ensuring superior print results and a more accurate printing size. The set screws on the build plate assure long-lasting leveling, no need for frequent calibration, and the sandblasted surface provides a much stronger adherence, especially when printing large 3D models.

    thank you for this video.
    I just recently bought a Saturn, and have not yet started to try printing. I am brand new to 3d printing, and felt a little overwhelmed by the process. this video broke everything down perfectly. I am going downstairs to print my first test piece right now.

    I’ve been thinking about a Saturn for awhile now and even though I’ve watched a number of videos on it, this is by far the best one I’ve seen. It answered a lot of my questions as well as questions I didn’t know I had. Thank you!!

    You could take that failed tank, give it some dings and dents, paint it so it looks like an upside down wreckage, add some modeling flock for overgrowth and then sell it to a Warhammer enthusiast who wants some cool models as cover. It might not look like anything canon from the imperial guard, but it would still be a cool terrain aesthetic to have when playing.

    I'm having a really hard time deciding on getting either the Elegoo Saturn 4k or the Phrozen sonic mini 4k. I really like the print size of the Saturn but prefer the detail of the sonic mini. Every review I've seen on either one just keeps on making me think I'll regret picking one over the other.

    In regards to the expensive alcohol cleaning solution, you could possibly try using water washable resin, that way, you can just fill the washing station's tank with tap water, and you're good (at least until it's time to get rid of the water :P)

    • @jimduehr9216
      @jimduehr9216 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You actually cannot use washing stations this way, with water. Water-washable resin is more soluble in water than IPA-cleanable resin is soluble in IPA. With water-washable, you are supposed to gently run water over the print, not immerse it/agitate it. If you do this, your prints will be ruined.

    I’m tempted by one of these but what puts me off is the fact it’s only usable with this sliver software and I believe lychee is it? But i notice you were using the Free version, is it any good or do you find people will have to sub to the ridiculous costs for the ‘pro’? The top level Lychee is only something like £30 a year so I’d get that but not £100+. Just interested in your thoughts, maybe do a video comparing the two slivers? Cheers

    You can use a air can or filtered compressor air to blow dry them off to get them to dry faster. Also the reason they leave white spots is the water in the 77% alcohol you are using. I would suggest you buy the 99% proof as it will work much better.

    The Elegoo is giving me a massive headache. Nothing more than a few layers will stick to the build plate. Then it appears to just fall off. After a few hours of waiting I check back with the printer, only to see nothing on the build plate. and everything stuck to the FEP. I tried using a flexible build plate as well after the first three failures, and that helped nothing. Everything got stuck to the FEP. Stuck so much even that after the fifth failed print, it punctured/ripped while taking it off (carefully). I spent 16 hours of creating flat pieces of plastic. My introduction to resin printing isn't exactly what I hoped for.

    • @PrimeRsoul
      @PrimeRsoul 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried several "guides" online, and all I can do with this printer is print flat discs. I guess that's great for flat-earthers, but I think €450 (€850 if you include a wash & cure machine, bottles of resin, build plate, etc.) is quite expensive for a machine that prints flat discs, and takes hours to do so. I'll wait for a firmware update or something. I ran out of ideas.

      @@sparrow0485Thank you for your reply, it's highly appreciated. I'll give more supports (even though I added a ridiculous amount already) a try. Maybe everything needs a raft? Didn't see videos where that seemed required though.

    • @sparrow0485
      @sparrow0485 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @adudenamedDave yeah i had a similar issue, prints not sticking to the plate and falling , it was the stl on the usb stick , idk why , i just downloaded new ones moved them around and added some support in chitubox and suddenly worked perfectly, i was lvling the plate like crazy 😀

    • @PrimeRsoul
      @PrimeRsoul 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sparrow0485 Sounds promising. Gonna have to wait for the FEP I ordered. Last attempted print was so stuck to the FEP that it managed to rip/puncture the FEP while trying to peal it off. Took this time to roughen up the flexible build plate a bit more to make sure it will stick to that.

    Nice Video, thank you! Just one comment: Please do not use the metal putty knife to get your prints away from the plate (Timestamp: 15:15). That will scratch and ruin your plate. There is a tool made out of plastic to use for this separation. Best regards and please stay healthy!

    • @Valkmerr
      @Valkmerr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The plastic one is for the FEP, the metal one is for the plate, removing prints can be quite difficult and you can break the plastic and break your prints too, he has done nothing bad with it, you see the plate is made of metal so in it won't scratch, and btw you have to sand it, the purpose of the plate is to make the resine stick to it

    • @alicec2033
      @alicec2033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The build plate will inevitably get pretty scratched up over time with a metal scraper. It shouldn't be a problem as long as the scraper wasnt at such a steep angle that you gouge it. Mine is scratched to hell and it's perfectly fine (heck, some people say it helps adhesion). You could get a plastic scraper to avoid this altogether though. Alternatively, you could also get a flexible magnetically-attached build plate so you can pop prints off without a scraper. (just remember to install a spacer)

      I was surprised when I got my Saturn, that it's not necessary to set z=0, like on my Mars 2 Pro. But it is completely correct. I see it as some evolution to the technical process of the printers. It's easier and also easier to level a second build plate for the printer if you consider "mass production".

  • @chikhai

    If you're new to 3D printing, do not get this printer. Save your money and get an Epax. Theres a reason the Elegoo Saturn is so cheap.
    I've had mine for a little under 2 weeks now and had 4 successful prints, and its been printing 2-3 times a day. In 18 months use of my X1-K I've had maybe 5 failures, and they were all my fault.
    The method of levelling the build plate is simple, but the two screw system means that its very easy to knock out of alignment. You won't even notice that you've done it most of the time. The 4 screw method of securing the build plate is vastly superior. Unless you throw it around the room the chances are you level it once when your printer is in situ and then never level it again. You only have to look at the Saturn's build plate in the wrong way and you need to level it.
    The FEP is horrible. Even without suction forces and lift height taken into account, your prints will get pulled off their supports and left to print on the FEP. The obvious solution to this is to increase your cure time, but you'll often be cooking your resin and losing detail. I had to dial my settings in a full second longer than on the X1-K, and the difference in detail is noticeable to the naked eye.
    Another fun feature is vertical lines on prints aligned with the centre line of the build area. This isn't diffuser related, or dead pixels, this is a centre line that goes around your model as if you were using a scribing tool. Very obvious when you see it, and unless you're printing something smooth; very hard to fill. I tried the suggestions given by Elegoo, namely re-seating the display cable and installing a new firmware. Neither worked. This wasn't a Chitubox issue either. I've printed dozens of the same model on my other printer without this problem.
    Everything about this machine is cheap. Even down to the fittings. One good example, be careful when tightening the screws on your vat when installing a new FEP. Its incredibly easy to chew out the recess for the hex key (thankfully they give you some spares, so they're probably aware of how bad they are). And they don't even supply you with the foam square needed to tension the FEP film (though if you do manage to get it to print you can find an STL of a block the exact size needed to do this on Thingiverse, just search for 'Saturn FEP Tensioning Tool').
    Anyone new to 3D printing could easily be put off by this machine. Instead of splashing out on this, have a good think about whether you have the time and money to dedicate to this hobby, and if you do, save your cash and get an Epax. Your blood pressure will thank you for it.
