    Man that taping flex arm is awesome! I’ve never seen one of those. Don’t know if you remember but many years back when your channel was just getting going, I needed some help and you made 2 hydraulic cylinder rams for my case backhoe support legs, you taped the ends of the rods and chamfered the other side so I could weld my eyelets on and shipped them to me here in California. I still have that tractor as it was my grand dads, and was handed down to me. Been watching your channel ever sense as I “play” machinist with a smithy granite 1340. Your always so helpful and explain things so it’s easy to understand. I wish I had the knowledge and experience you got as a machinist. Keep up the good work! Jeremy

    I have ‘one off’ parts that I need for my farm and tractors at least once a month. There is not a single machinist in this area willing to do ‘one off’s’ at any price. I ended up watching every one of your videos from the beginning, buying a basic lathe and have saved at least $50k over the past five years! Since the supply chain and inflation issues came up I find I’m not only doing for myself but many of my farmer neighbors as well. Thanks for great content, great advice and the patience needed to walk us beginners through this trade so that we can get professional results every time! You’re a prince!

    For the hitch, the two bolts that hold it to the shank are supposed to be torqued to 250lb-ft after you've set your angle adjust and adjust set screw. It locks everything together. They should also have those cup (belleville) washers on both sides, top and bottom.

    • @suzukichopper
      @suzukichopper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just to add, the above info should be in the manufacturer's install manual. If you had the RV dealer do your hitch install, I'd get ahold of that manual and do it yourself and check the torques on all of it. I'd put good money on them having done none of it properly.

    • @MistrThou
      @MistrThou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bump this up hopefully. Had to re-set up an installation for a friend after his rv dealer undertorqued those cross bolts and his moved around.

      I think that slot is the major problem. Bushings and eliminate the slot and it should take out most of the play.

  • @wireedm1
    @wireedm1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Adam, you might machine a 150-degree cone shape on the face of the set screw to keep the pressure on the point. With a flat on the end of the screw, and the face not sitting parallel to the pad, any movement will loosen the screw. Same thing on the top screw that you need the screwdriver for, especially with all the surface area on the face.

    The head on your hitch is angle adjustable to set the tension bar angle. It's not an arbitrary adjustment. the bolts are supposed to be able to move around in the holes to provide clearance to adjust the angle. Torque the bolts to spec. Try reading the manual.

    • @MistrThou
      @MistrThou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right, the one I had set up, those cross bolts were torqued to 250lbs/ft. Those conical washers with the teeth crush in and pinch that whole thing tight. Check the hitch setup manual.

    A quick tip for the ramps on your trailer. Put some witness marks on the short beavertail part of the trailer deck for where the ramps line up. I used different color paint for each different item that I loaded. Orange for the Kubota, red for the SXS, yellow for the zero-turn mower and so forth. That way you know where to set the ramps compared to the width of the machine you are loading. Merry Christmas Adam & Abbey.

    Hey Adam, I just want you to know that your videos/content has inspired me a great deal. I went to school for machine tool and die 18 years ago and I ended up in the HVAC-R industry instead. I've always been passionate about machine Tool & Die or Machining in general but it was largely to do with your home workshop and content that's inspired me to purchase and set up a bridgeport mill and now a clausing lathe in my garage. I've done some projects on the mill and I love it. The lathe needs some parts made for it before it can be used ( cross slide and top slide, along with the tail stock quill and other odds and ends) but I have a good deal of respect for you and I truly hope you know how many lives you touch and impact in a positive way with your content on a daily basis.
    Congratulations on your new a year ago tractor ! Well earned. 🍻

    The two large squeeze bolts should lock that up after you set the cant angle with the top and bottom jam screws. Don't know about that Reese, but my equalizer Hitch has a torque spec on those large two fasteners of 320 ft lbs. Yes, 320. That requires a 3/4" socket drive 1-1/8" socket, and a 48" long torque wrench to set properly. I suspect your problem may involve not tightening those bolts enough.

    Dovetail joint, you'll never get backlash.
    With that you can do a wedge bolt assembly 2 wedges one from top one from bottom of gap pull togather with a bolt that won't loosen up.
    But if the bolt holes were like the ways of a mill slid up and down, a bolt could adjust the height and its not going to get slack or loosen up.

    A second fix that would go on the 3/4" bolt that has the slot I've seen myself but I don't know if I'm going to be able to describe it properly so aplogies in advance. We had something similar on one ship where the mount came adjustable but once adjusted stayed that way forever. Like you it always vibrated loose. Our machinist made up a washer that was flat on the bolt side but had a raised, curved piece on the back side that exactly matched the slot. This raised piece was the thickness of the slot metal minus clearance. We assembled the mount in the correct position then used a transfer punch to mark the centre of the bolt line and drilled out the hole to a tight clearance fit. There was two of these washers.The new washers were essentially curved bushes that fitted in the slot. I wish I could upload pictures here, I could draw it and it would make a lot more sense. Best of luck with the hitch, I know exactly what you're talking about having the hitch slop making the drive uncomfortable.

    yes he needs loading stands, or ramps with stands built in and blocks between both tires on the trailer
    Last thing needed is when loading the surge lifting the trailer off the ball and running it into the back side of the truck or damaging the transmission
    When we load we usually have someone holding the breaks on the truck to to control the surge when the tractor hits the trailer, Though we load machines that weigh a bit more

    Great video as always Adam. As far as boring the 3/4" (.790" as you mentioned) holes and bushing them you might want to get metric grade 10.9 bolts in 20mm. The diameter of them is .787". Boring the bracket holes to .875" or 1.000" could possibly weaken the bracket.

    We use a Reese hitch system on our camper....and it's no better slop-wise. It drives me nuts! Time to fire up the lathe in pops shop and make it tight/right. Some folks don't understand that throwing money at it doesn't always make it better.

  • @rockwell6594
    @rockwell6594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Adam, rather than bore out the forging for bushes, why not just use 20mm dia bolts? You measured the existing holes in the forging as 0.790”, which is 20.07mm. It is not as if the bolts have to be touched again once they are installed, and in any case, you would have the right spanner.
    More importantly, the other thing that I would do is make the thickest shim packer possible to go at the side of the forging, so that the aft piece can be made to clamp to the sides of the forging when the bolts are fully tightened. The bigger metric bolts would give some extra clamping capability or you could even go to a grade 12.9 socket head cap screws for even more clamping force. That should achieve a rigid friction-grip joint between the aft piece and the sides of the forging, which would make the cack-handed grub screw arrangement redundant. If the sides of the forging are a bit too irregular, you could skim it in the milling machine to improve the fit with the aft piece and the shim packer. Cheers

    Adam, half the fun of watching your videos is reading the comments from people like Dave Fuelling & all the "superior intellect" types that were absolutely certain your anti-rattle clamp would never work. Doesn't matter where you are, the crowd is ALWAYS certain that you are doing it the wrong way & that any new idea is bound to fail. Been working for an UDW subsea engineering company that takes on the jobs the big petroleum engineering firms refuse to touch because "there's no way to make that better" for the last 10 years & your comments section sounds just like some of the initial project meetings I have attended there.

    i just bought the same tractor last year youll like it. only tip i have for you is if it has to regen dont freak out cause it takes forever to regen if you get lucky it regen while your working but i just finished using mine one day and it decided it needed regened and had to sit there for 20 30 minutes at 2700 rpm while it regened. try to keep the rpms above 2500 when your using it and it wont regen as often mine did its first regen at about 45 hours also look into getting the tires fluid filled with rimguard its beet juice its non corrosive and adds alot of weight to the back about 300lbs per tire if i remeber right

    Watch pulling into the shop. Roll bars to tall for your 7' door it looks like its 9 foot tall.
    I've put car steros in that brand tractor with the cab on them lot of fun to drive wished I had one with the excavator and bucket on it. Very handy.
