Oh...I just wanted to add a few thoughts. For cambly adults, even though the pay is lower, I have stayed booked solid for all of the slots I open. Everyone is still in that covid frame of mind with learning new skills. But, mostly, these adult students have told me that covid really set them back on their English speaking because they may not be going into their offices or speaking with native English speakers as much right now. Many are professional looking for business English. Many are women from Saudi Arabia just looking to connect (likely with other women) from the US. I had "coffee " in an outdoor cafe with one the other day. It was just like we were two old friends talking as she has been my regular student since I started. I enjoy her so much. And I think it's enjoyable for her to speak with someone outside of her country. I have a ton of regulars from Japan as well as South Korea. We talk about our daily routines. They ask questions about homeschooling because they don't do that there. I love it when they ask me about socialization. Lol. 😅
Gosh I just really wish it paid more because the cambly adults are awesome. I've learned so much about other cultures. Did you know that you can be born in South Korea on December 31st and be 2 years old on January 1st? I had no idea but that's a real thing. I've learned that people in Saudi Arabia go to sleep at 6 am a lot because it's so hot so they do their activities when it's cooler and sleep in the daytime unless they have school or work. Ha!
I would definitely do a mix of cambly kids and adults. The adults want to be there. They are mostly serious about learning English and it's nice knowing that we can help people in other parts of the world in some small way.
Hope this honest and small collection of thoughts helps someone....

@@onlineteacherdude1284 absolutely. The only drawback I see is pay but I actually see it as improving myself as well because I'm learning new things I wouldn't have otherwise known. When you look at it in this way it really makes it a little easier to swallow the pay scale.

@@intlspecialist thanks. It's 17 cents a minute so it adds up to $10.20 per hour talked. I do enjoy it though. I have quite a few regulars now. Most people want conversational English. Sometimes they want to talk about my degree. Sometimes they are curious about homeschooling. Sometimes they want a lesson. It's just a mix of various things.
@@judyphillips2498 I try to think about it like a fun hobby that I get paid for a little bit. I haven't finished my demo video for kids for them, but I've been teaching adults for over 2 years.
I adore Cambly Kids! I had been considering it for a back up company since last year, but I finally got around to applying a few months ago and it has been a lifesaver! I was originally just going to use it for supplemental income, but now with the paycuts, I'm still able to pay my bills and pay them on time thanks to their weekly payments through Paypal. The bonus is a huge help as well. It's also been really nice being able to teach between 12pm and 4pm EST without having to worry about getting up extra early or staying up super late to get more hours. It was one of the best decisions I ever made and I just wish had applied sooner.

Wow! I just went a month without pay as a university teacher in China, and knowing they pay weekly is probably my trigger to apply!

I'm 6 months pregnant and it's been a fantastic backup. I'm finishing up with my primary company as I near my due date and I will start working more with Cambly up until I give birth. I chose Cambly for it's flexibility, no prep and of course no feedback! It's really easy and pleasant to teach with them. The onboarding process was slow (I was accepted a year ago) but I highly recommend them.

Great video! On point for sure! I’ve Been with Cambly for over 2 years and absolutely love working for them. I love my Cambly Kids and have such a great time teaching them. I also love Cambly adult students. I’ve learned so much about other countries and cultures.

Wow, this looks like a great option. Originally I was scared off by low pay (after watching many many of your videos). I left teaching a few years ago & some money is better than none lol!! Hi Tim I am already with Cambly since March tutoring adults part time. Your video has encouraged me to try Cambly Kids. Especially since they have the bonus going on right now. I was with VIP Kids, really still am but only had two students since March since I started teaching online. Hi Tim - This looks like a good backup for me. I'll start the process in September as I'm too busy with VIP Kids now, over 90 classes each week. I know, from last year, VIP Kids dies for the month of September when they (the kids) go back to school. Since you mentioned it's 24-hours I can use them to fill up the daytime. Yes, and with VIPKid phasing out soon of Chinese kids, Cambly is a good option but low pay.

@@armando3811 They have said nothing. Because, as I said in the video, no one knows how it will impact. Everything is continuing as normal! VIPKid issued a statement that just said they will let us know when they know more .

Just to add - other than booking reservations in your schedule you can open up Priority Hours and you will still get students from Cambly kids booking up your Priority Hours. You can get no shows on both reserved slots? or Priority hours. You can also flick your visibility status over if you have a no show? to paid students or 'anyone' if you would like to try and help some new students? Thankfully I don't get a lot of no shows!

Regarding pay… I just started my online teaching job two months ago and find myself enjoying it more than in-person tutoring here in China that pays 2-3 times as much. You can’t beat the commute.
Cambly sounds amazing-I love adult learners!! And weekly pay?! (Plus, of course, this pay still beats the heck out of my first job as a Starbucks barista! As much as I loved it, ha!)

This is a really well done video but there’s no way I could go work for Cambly kids. Minimum wage in my state is $13.50 with most jobs lately offering a starting pay upwards of $15 an hour. I also don’t want to bring down the value of ESL teachers. I know this is an awesome wage in the Philippines but I hate seeing US and Canada-based teachers working for this low pay. These companies are not going to ever pay more if we’re willing to work for peanuts.
Its just an option. Agreed its low pay but some people just need a part time side gig, not a full time income. Freelancing and building your own thing / offer is always the better way.
Just because our minimum wage is one thing…most people in other countries can’t even imagine that, let alone pay that. There is always fast food work…

Hey! thank you for making this video! Out of curosity, I really enjoy giving a reward at the end of class in my other company. It's mainly stickers the student can pick to decorate a shape I have with their name on it. Do you think this would be ok to do? Like is the company ok with rewards in the lesson? sometimes it helps with the smaller kids to engaged.

Are the slides for Cambly kids already created or do we have to create them ourselves? Is it the same for the adults? I've been with Cambly for a year now, but I haven't taught yet. When I applied it was required to teach adults first before being allowed to teach children. Can I bypass teaching adults? I'm more used to teaching children through VIPKID. I've taught Korean adults through morning Voip phone calls and we would discuss topics or read from the provided online books. I've also taught for an ESL company where I was projected onto a large screen within a classroom for kindergarten children and 5th graders to read stories, sing songs and to practice critical thinking.
They are created by Cambly but you do not have to use them...its mostly free talk and you can use your own stuff too.

I'm currently an elementary school teacher teaching second graders in person. I just found out I'm expecting and my husband and I are looking at options for me to be a stay at home mom next year but also keeping up my teaching experience and bringing in a little income. It could be but the pay is not great - $12 / hour. Super flexible and 24/7 so if you want to start a little side income, this might be a good option, yes. Easy to get hired with if you have the requirements.

My concern, is if a student has difficulty comprehending some of the slides, is the tutor required to trudge through all of the slides in one lesson, or can the tutor pick up where they left off in the previous lesson?

Hi Tim my husband was with VIP Kids. Now he does Cambly with adults. He gets some kids on this platform but has not done his video yet for Cambly Kids. My question to you is VIP never paid him for some of the classes he taught back in SeptemberOctober. He has sent them several emails. What should he do? Any advice?
Hi, I think I answered this somewhere else but VIPKid always pays so there must be an issue in his banking information. Has he reached out to VIPKid through their ticketing system - that is the best method.

You apply once through the same link and click the checkbox on the application for "I want to teach kids" - easy. Good luck!
I applied, but I'm confused! I created my profile and video geared toward kids, not adults! Do they have a kids platform? Also, how will they notify you of approval? I downloaded the app and logged in, but it doesn't really do or show anything! Please help!
Yes, if you select kids on the application you can make the vide geared towards kids. They will email you. I think they are back logged at the moment.

@@bestofthebestvoices3642 I applied on a Friday and got accepted that Sunday. Word of warning if you have never taught online before for an ESL company make sure you use lots of TPR. If you do know about it watch videos. I had to apply 3 times because I was teaching the way I did in public school. TPR is very important! Total Physical Response. I hope this helps. God's blessings!

I am not sure how Taiwan is effected by all of this. I did have a Cambly kids student from Taiwan last week though.

What terrible pay though! How is it even possible to work for $12 an hour? It is literally pointless.
Thanks for the positivity. $12 / hour can be life changing for some people. I said it's not great pay but for opening up last minute classes, doing no prep work, and just chatting with students all over the world, $12 / hour might be a good fit for someone who needs a little boost. Pointless for you but not for everyone. Have a good one.

@@bestofthebestvoices3642 I was approved for Cambly in June 2020. I was approved for Cambly Kids in July 2020. So, it took about a month for the kids' side but it took way longer to be approved to be approved for Cambly adults. At that time you had to have an account as an adult instructor first then you could apply to the kids' side. If I had to guesstimate I'd say it took about 4 months to be approved for the adult side - I remember thinking that I was rejected because I hadn't received a response in so long. When I received the congratulatory email I was very surprised as I'd temporarily forgotten about them. I assume they must have been on a hiring freeze when I applied (possibly around Feb or March or 2020).
How long does the bonus pay last?
I think it has ended by now but not 100% sure.

Cambly is a terrible company and many females have reported inappropriate conduct on that platform. Most of you are likely worthy of so much more than barely minimum wage. You are awesome. Lets work those resumes and help one another conquer the world.
Its just an option. Not for everyone though. Low pay for sure! Of course we are worth more, I agree. Is it something for the interim ? Perhaps for some. The have really cleaned up their platform and those reported inappropriate conducts are more of a thing of the past from what I have heard. Judging from the feedback below, people really love it for a few extra hours on the side. Maybe something easy to do for those that suddently lost their job with no other income at the moment? VIPKid was hiring at $14 / hour this year + incentives..Cambly pays $12 and they have a really good bonus right now for teaching a lot of classes that can amount to around $20/hour.

No, no min. hours.
@Originsand TallTales no, there are not. Come and go as you want, teach, don't teach, whatever floats your boat. Its completely flexible.
