$800 goes a lot further in the Philippines than it does in the United States. If that’s all that you have per month for retirement then you can still have a decent life in the Philippines. In America $800/month will either get you a spot on your friends sofa or living on the street. Of course, the more money that you have, the more comfortable you can live, but that goes for everywhere in the world. I know Filipino FAMILIES that live on $500/month and less. They still manage to send their kids to college too. Some say that you need $2k or $5k per month and up, but it just depends on how luxurious you want to live and how much traveling that you want to do. The bad thing about the Philippines is that they don’t have a safety net like they do in the States. In the States we have free food kitchens and hospitals can’t turn you away if you can’t pay.

I budget for food, laundry (2000 peso per month as 1 guy said is extreme) of which costs me 150 peso per week for laundry. I budget 30K a month and usually save a bout 10 K. I have lived here 25 years and yes you can survive very well on 1k USD per month. The guy from SF who spends 40k on groceries and 20K eating out , for 2 people, is either being ripped off or mistaken. For instance I bought 1 kg of rump steak in SM today and it was 470 peso. and that's good for 3 meals. To live a life that will give you a decent standard of living would be 100k pesos. Travel locally, a trike where I live is 15 peso, a jeepney ride of about 15km to Davao City center is 30 pesos.
This guy has heart and other medical issues, and wants to maintain a high class living in the Philippines, including his groceries. He buys his groceries/steaks in higher class shopping centers. That's why his costs of living is high.
It is more economical if you have backyard vegetable garden as it has only two Seasons in the Philippines. Me and my husband decided to live in the Philippines for good soon as we both are already retired.
You can actually live in the Philippines for a $500-$600 a month depending on how u guys live. Basically, it’s you’re lifestyle. Cities/ municipalities or towns matters. Big cities is of course very expensive to live like in Manila and cebu. In my case, I spent $1000-$1200 (helper’s salary included 145$/month )for 5 people in the house in a month living comfortably.(house isn’t included,we own it) If living alone then $500 -$600 would be enough for a simple life.
Thank you, and that is what I plan on doing. So many people saying you need $1500 minimum, well, perhaps they don't like to cook at home like I do, or spend $4K on a scooter when they can get a good local SkyGo scooter for $1K, etc.

From the TH-cam vid's I have some understanding the cost of living in Phil -Thai I think the $800 -1000 per month is duable epecialy easyer in Phili , having a roof , food , media , also couple beers per other night @ the end of month could be savings $100 :) In US is $800 very difficult (impossible) without Gov Assistance. Of course to my understanding $2000 @ both Phil-Thai can be conservative but not painfull Monthly to Monthly + Always Minim Savings $ 5000 = for ☔days:)
That accounting of the guy from America is not representative of the average cost of living in the Phil. A 800US dollar will give you a relatively comfortable lifestyle if you do not indulge on too much luxuries?
It depends on lifestyle - house maids earn like 5-10k pesos a month --- that's like 200 dollars per mnth.. but we won't be using that as a sample we'll use 30k pesos instead as it's more realistic (sort of)... that's like 600 dollars? maybe?? it's all about lifestyle -- people who earned and lived in dollar country worlds, that would be limiting - one could say survival mode -- and that's not a life..
If you already own your house and car free and clear in the Philippines, you can live super comfortable on 2000 USD in the Philippines. My monthly costs are the following Electricity for both of our houses is 120 USD My internet is 25 USD My Netflix is 20 USD My propane is 50 USD Our food bill is 800 USD And we buy alot of western stuff. So if you have a 2000 USD a month budget you live great, BUT I am married to a Filipina and we own all of our stuff outright. My retirement is 3200 USD a month after US taxes. So we live really good and bank alot.
Nice scooter RD. Is it the Mio Gear Standard or S? Saw a view vids back you're staying permanently in the Phils. Good move man, getting out of the US was smart. Stay safe brother.
My only comment: please stay fit & healthy. Hospitals & medical staff there will not lift a finger when patient cannot pay. Sadly, money first before treatment. True or False?

Many would obviously see some portion of your definition as 'extravagant' and not needed ? Apparently satisfied with various amounts of - less ? Certainly location is some of that too from what I can tell. - Yet - many are "living" on $800 - $1500 in various locations and seemingly quite content when compared to the US ! -- ? --
On my 10 th year in the Philippines living in the province , I've never lived in the city and never will , even in America I lived in the west Virginia mountains . Wife (from Cebu) and I reside in NE Texas. Zero debt and it costs us $80,000.00 a year to live extremely comfortably in a 3400ft2 house in town, a 64 acre rural property, and a high end mancave for me. A 1 ton Ram, a 3/4 ton Ford.a Jeep, and 4 Harley's. Taxes, insurance, healthcare are our biggest expenses.Food is about $800.00 a month. So, I asked my wife if relocating to PI could be an option. She was explicit in saying NO. To replicate our lifestyle would be $60,000.00 a year and my passion of high speed Harley rides of hundreds of un-interrupted mile rides are not possible there. And the whole island thing is unappealing to me. Really doesn't take long to explore an island. Then what?Texas is a big freaking state and even exploring it would take years and years. Toss in the whole U.S. and it takes lifetimes.

All I need is 600g of chuck steak, salt, pepper, rosemary, garlic, butter and some animal fats with which to cook. $14 a meal here in Australia. Alternative days I need 300g chicken thigh, double cream, onions, mushrooms, lemon juice, white wine, chicken stock, garlic, butter and some animal fats with which to cook. $7 a meal here in Australia at home. Second meal on both days is six scrambled eggs. I spend $20 on Indian food on the Sunday. This is two days of food for me, if I multiply this by three what would this cost in pesos? So maybe here it is about $89. Which is 3240php and $58.50USD.
Here in Solano Nueva Vizcaya Philippines region 2 us 3 spend 3k pesos a week and that's cooking 3 meals a day , utilities run around 4k a month and propane cost 850 pesos a month so we save money here .
Thanks for your time and showing a few peoples budgets. Always interesting to see what is being spent. The first guy spends a lot but as he said 700 of it is food. Also motorcycles are not cheaper there than the USA. They are about the same and in other situations quite a bit more.
Why would America taste be so much more expensive? In the US I would eat Fish, Pork Chicken, and occasionally Beef. Add in an assortment of local veggies, fruits and vegetables ? Do these things cost more in a country where most make $ 100 dollars a week ?
It’s simply about lifestyle ..can ya afford it. I live in a rented house in a expensive area…while I’m building, rent is 80k a month ..food is about anything from 200k-300k a month alone. Lol I have three staff…three cars ..etc so ya just cut your cloth.

Why do people think that preparing fantastic home cooked Filipino cultural foods are akin to suffering. Must be a lot of guys in relationships with Filipinas who suck ass in the kitchen. We also prepare Chinese stir fries and delicious finger foods, barbeque meals, etc. If you don't know how to live or are lazy then you are going to spend close to what you did in your home country. I absolutely love being able to save a little over $2,000 dollars per month in the Philippines.
$1200 - 1500 will be enough for that kind of life style. You eat out side on a resto 4x a week and still spending 40k for groceries in the province thats big bs.
I spend about 250,000 pesos per year to support my wife's and I living expenses equal to a typical middle income lifestyle. But then I spend another 1,000,000 pesos a year on improving the land and buildings and motorbikes and cars and appliances and electronics and etc., etc. Hopefully in another 20 years my compound will be complete.
A simp or weak man cannot live here for less than 2 to 3K. He will be supporting a high maintenance attitude, extended family, and generally pay dearly for sexual favors. Young people would likely not be able to make it on that, or at least not a happily, since most like to go out a lot and travel. I'd say you can do well on $1100 to $1500 (less for some) if you don't demand an extravagant lifestyle.

Thank you, good to know that. My budget is 1500 USD. And I saw this couple on the video able to live within that budget.
Thank you for watching and for your opinion.
Yes the older guy at the beginning was getting ripped off!😢
This guy has heart and other medical issues, and wants to maintain a high class living in the Philippines, including his groceries. He buys his groceries/steaks in higher class shopping centers. That's why his costs of living is high.
It is more economical if you have backyard vegetable garden as it has only two Seasons in the Philippines. Me and my husband decided to live in the Philippines for good soon as we both are already retired.
Great job, Alex, both informational and entertaining. Your drone work is very nice!
Thank you so much my friend, it's exactly what I tried to make
You can actually live in the Philippines for a $500-$600 a month depending on how u guys live.
Thank you for watching and for your opinion.
Yelp
Thank you, and that is what I plan on doing. So many people saying you need $1500 minimum, well, perhaps they don't like to cook at home like I do, or spend $4K on a scooter when they can get a good local SkyGo scooter for $1K, etc.

I've lived in Solano Nueva Vizcaya on our 10 year and my bills are internet with tv 1,150 pesos , water about 350 pesos , electric if not run ac 2500 pesos , if run ac it's double that , food for 3 cooking 3 meals a day for 3 people is about 3k to 3500 pesos a week . My 6 months visa is 7500 pesos and my year alien card is 1500 pesos a year , propane for the month 950 pesos , gas for scooter is about 1,000 pesos . We spend about 2k a month on soap and things like that . I save a lot incase of an emergency because here it's cash or no see the doctor , I can go to the doctor and it's 600 pesos and blood test is 400 pesos . My medication cost 500 pesos for 100 days . I rented a few years
And it was an apartment 2 bedroom I paid 6k a month until 2017 we built a 4 bedroom with 2 bath house with a sari sari store and no more rent . The rate was mid 40's when we built and I have 200 meters lot with 100 sq meters house and a 50 sq meters parking . All cost 1.6 million pesos . It would probably be closer to 2 million now to do that .

Winters are hard on my old body and heating bills are expensive. Food costs twice as much also !!! I expect to be more 'comfortable' and enjoy the weather and the people. Appreciate your sharing how you can live there if you want to or have to.
Thank you. I think it's possible and you can hire a caregiver for 10-20$ per day, who also can cook for you
@tropicXplorer Thank you for your input ! -- Need all I can get. -- Likely will move there sometime in 2024 if I am able. Looking @ Tagaytay where it's much cooler at 2000 feet elevation or Lipa City @ 1000 feet - both very scenic & Lipa is super cheap. Both are an easy day trip to Manila for fun or very good medical.
Thank you for watching.

My monthly costs are the following
Electricity for both of our houses is 120 USD
My internet is 25 USD
My Netflix is 20 USD
My propane is 50 USD
Our food bill is 800 USD
And we buy alot of western stuff.
So if you have a 2000 USD a month budget you live great, BUT I am married to a Filipina and we own all of our stuff outright. My retirement is 3200 USD a month after US taxes. So we live really good and bank alot.

A person needs triple of that amount (2500=3000) to have a "good quality" life in a city! I have lived in The Philippines for over 8 years.
Thank you for watching and your opinion
People define 'good quality' differently. Primarily from what I can ascertain is because they are able to strictly define the difference between a want and a need ? Many would obviously see some portion of your definition as 'extravagant' and not needed ? Apparently satisfied with various amounts of - less ? Certainly location is some of that too from what I can tell. - Yet - many are "living" on $800 - $1500 in various locations and seemingly quite content when compared to the US ! -- ? --
And, few people include health insurance. For seniors, we are talking $800.-$1,300. per month. @@frankkluz9787

Alternative days I need 300g chicken thigh, double cream, onions, mushrooms, lemon juice, white wine, chicken stock, garlic, butter and some animal fats with which to cook. $7 a meal here in Australia at home.
Second meal on both days is six scrambled eggs.
