great album. anything bowie did from from his second album in 1969 to "let's dance" in 1983 is perfect. "diamond dogs" is really a transitional album where he moves away from glam while moving towards more experimental approach to writing lyrics and exploring american soul music.
"Spend a penny" means go to the toilet/bathroom as when public toilets were first introduced in England, you had to "spend a penny" to enter the toilet block. Many tourist attractions in UK still require you to pay about 20p to use a public toilet😅
first time I watched through, I didn't notice that Ted was on a verge of a panic attack when he was thrust into the media interview in episode 1. Rebecca stepped in before he went into full blown panic attack.
Yes! It’s definitely something you’re not meant to pick up on until later, but they use the same sound distortion and change in focus as in this episode. Great catch! Thank you for pointing it out! ❤️Jacqui
I mean by definition, a panic attack is an episode of extreme panic brought on by, seemingly, no rational cause. Being flown half way across the ocean and almost immediately getting grilled by a sea of people, well that seems like an apparent cause that would make almost anyone panic or uncomfortable
Every now and again I have to come back to this reaction to watch Sam break at Roy's night out. "Is that the sea? Mother, I'm coming home!" It gets me every single time. Thankyou Sam.
I love how the show sets up classic conflict tropes that on any other show would be drawn out for the drama over several episodes or more, but Ted Lasso nips it in the bud with character's personal growth and accountability, and forgiveness.
I definitely feel like I'm on The Office every time I do it 😄 That's half the fun! So glad you're enjoying the reactions, and thank you for the kind words! ❤️Jacqui
One of my favorite little details in The Diamond Dogs is Higgins in casual clothes. It shows that he was at home with his family yet he came to the office because Ted asked for his help. I also love Keely and Sassy’s relationship. All that matters is that is other woman loves Rebecca and Rebecca seems to love them back. That’s all they need to know to become friends.
One of my favorite fun facts about ep 7: Being an Apple show, Disney initially denied the rights for Ted Lasso to use Let It Go. But they recorded the scene with Hannah singing it anyway and her performance and the way it helped tell the story of that particular scene got Disney to reverse the denial.
What I love about this show is that it manages to introduce all the unrealistic sitcom stereotypes and then subverts them by treating them realistically and sincerely and not falling prey to them for the cheap laughs.
Randomly watched this reaction today and didn't realize the call back to Episode 7 in the Amsterdam Episode in Season 3. In 1x07, "What are we going to do? Movie night or pillow fight?" "Ok, but one of these days, you're going to say pillow fight and never look back"
The Diamond Dogs is also a song by David Bowie and is played at the end of the episode. It a song about a gang of men that target a woman but in their context it's a group of men targeting their issues with women.
I think one of the best parts of the Roy section of the roast, is how even in that moment, Roy's being a leader. He's forcing Nate to be confident and considerate in his thoughts. "Don't read it, look at me." Nate was getting kinda wrapped up in the show and the laughter and Roy had to bring him back to the whole point of what he was doing.
A friend of mine told me you have to pay to use a public restroom in England (maybe it was just London?), so correct, spend a penny means go to the bathroom.
Love your reactions (which I only just stumbled across) - "Diamond Dogs' is one of favorites of the show, that dart scene is something I can always rewatch if I need to cry.
The song playing at the end of Episode 7, "Strange" by Celeste...is the same song that was turned into an instrumental version in Bridgerton Season 1. Super powerful song!
"The French post-hardcore/extreme metal -band Celeste?" "I don't think they have a song by that name." "Can't remember if they even have any songs with English titles." "In Bridgerton too?" "Ah, it's a different Celeste."
Love you guys! I love how you responded immediately to the "women supporting women" the way that (healthy) women do and the way they need. Well. Diamond Dogs is just the male equivalent. Men supporting men the way that (healthy) men do and need. There are also plenty of examples of men helping women, women helping men and totally nongendered helping. By being curious (and not judgemental) you can find how to give people the help that they need. PS. I was ½ right with my Princess Bride guess in the last episode. Jacqui, maybe Sam needs to watch it with you.
Okay, so, the woman Rupert's engaged to. I've never seen this actually said in an interview but...Keeley Jones is a topless model who uses her success to launch a different career (in her case, branding). Rupert's finaceé is played by a good friend of Jason Sudekis', who he's known for years. She's a former topless model who used her success to launch a different career (in her case, acting and writing - she's actually a writer on Ted Lasso). Her name is Keeley Hazell. I find it very hard to believe that Keeley the character isn't at least partly based on Keeley the person.
Look at all the views and subscribers! You guys are a lot of fun. These two episodes are really great together. I enjoy rewatching the growth of the characters and all the little hints that are thrown in foretelling the future. I think those are when we get the Jacqui faces mentioned below! For example, Nate is seen as someone to walk all over, and yet, he knows football really well, knows the players well and comes up with some brilliant ideas at times (a la The Diamond Dogs). Far deeper character than ever expected!! And who among us doesn't love the Darts scene! Amazing!!
Aw! Thank you for the kind words, and for your take on the episodes. We love hearing what you guys enjoyed most! And completely agree--Nate really is a fantastic character, and the darts scene will forever be iconic! See you on the next one! ❤️Jacqui
There's a moment in the bar after Lasso's bit about being curious and not judgemental, addressing Rupert, where it holds on Rebecca for a couple seconds. Earlier in the show during "For the Children" Keely says it's okay that Rebecca said something judgy because she "is a little bit judgy". In the bar Rebecca's face is a little bit sad and introspective following what Ted says; happy Rupert is getting what-for but also I have to imagine recognizing that what Ted's saying applies to her as well. Something I take as yet another brick being pulled out of the wall she put up around her true self / between her and the Ted she doesn't want to like and grow attached to given she's trying to use him to bulldoze Rupert's former club.
Just discovered your channel yesterday so I've been binge watching your Ted Lasso reactions since I just finally watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I really enjoy in particular the little analysis and breakdown you both do of every little nugget the show throws at you. One bit that I didn't catch until my second watch, and which I don't know if you did since there was no comment for it is that on the first episode during Ted's first morning chat with Rebecca he mentions that BBQ sauce is what most brings back memories of home, and in this episode after talking about him playing darts with his father for so many years as a kid, right before throwing that last dart he says "BBQ sauce" as a symbol of where his mind was right there.
I found your channel today, looking for videos of Ted Lasso, I loved your analysis of the series. Roy Kent is a love pudding. Sam, I love your nails and Jacqui, I love your lipstick! Going to watch your Sense8 reactions now!
Sam's reactions were classic in this one, too effing funny. Btw, I love that Anthony Head's character is named "Rupert" after his character Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Late to the party here and I’m sure someone else in all these comments has brought it up before, but I’ll say it anyway… One of my favorite MRGA moments is the karaoke scene. Brett Goldstein said in an interview that the scene when Hannah is singing Let It Go was actually him singing along. He had no idea they put the camera on him and he was just going with it.
when they are doing Karaoke Roy is mouthing the words because in real life he's, in Hannah's words a "theatre queen". Brett has been a writer, and theatre nut for his whole life and she said he was mouthing the words with her singing because that is just who he is. She also said when she first met him on set he is a big fanboy and was in her face telling her all the shows he's seen her in, i saw you in this show, i went and saw you in that show, etc. He was a big fan of hers.
Again I'm so glad I found you both. You both are so sweet and sassy. I have to agree both Ted Lasso and Sense8 don't treat their audience as dumb. I can't wait for the next video and for the future of this channel.💗💜💙
You are so sweet, and it means so much to see you coming back for each video! We're so lucky to have you with us, and I hope you know how much we appreciate you. ❤️Jacqui
35:42 In an interview Hannah Waddingham said that making Rebecca wear items more than once was deliberate and that almost everything she wears is decided by their head of costume department and Hannah and she said that it is thought thoroughly. Apparently they go out together and buy some of the clothes. Here's a link to the interview: th-cam.com/video/zVuxCgSgcYc/w-d-xo.html
Yes, "spend a penny" means going to the bathroom, and it's one of the coloquialisms the british cast brought to a script written by americans. Juno said this is something her grandma says or used to say and she asked if she could say that instead of "going to the loo" and Jason liked it, so they kept it. One thing that always felt icky to me is the speech Sassy gives Rebecca. I love the whole "holding each other accountable" thing they got going, and I 100% understand and agree with Sassy mentioning how much it hurt to have to explain to her six year old daughter why her aunty disappeared, I love that part. What I don't like is the ivory tower part, because it's been established that Rebecca was in a controlling abusive relatioship (first step to abuse is isolating the victim from their support system) so when Sassy aknowledges that Rupert "kept her captive" but then goes on to say she basically let him abuse her never sat right with me. I get what they were trying to do and I agree, I just think the phrasing could've been better. Rebecca's "I thought we were friends" to Higgins absolutely breaks me every time. She was completely alone except for her one friend who she then finds out was only hanging out with her because her abuser told him to!! The hurt, the betrayal!!! It makes so much sense that Rebecca treats Higgins how she does, given their history, especially at the end of episode 6/beginning of 7. From what Jason and Jeremy have said, Higgins is a "product of toxic masculinity" (Jason's exact words), so it's kind of a given that he was also suffering the same treatment from Rupert when he was in charge (except Rebecca's doing it out of hurt, Rupert's just a dick). The difference is that now he has Ted and Beard. So now he's growing as well and building up the courage to do the right thing and help Rebecca do the same, like when he quits and tells her to stop. But from Rebecca's perspective, it feels like he was willing to manipulate and deceive her at Rupert's request but won't do the same to Ted on her request. So what she gets from that is that he still has more respect for Rupert than for her, which is obviously not true, because we know he cares for her. But she doesn't know that. That's the result of more than a decade of abuse.
Firstly, thank you for clarifying that! It's wonderful to hear that they've been so open to adjustments, and make such an effort to keep it authentic. Secondly, that's an interesting point about Sassy, and it's great to hear perspectives we maybe hadn't considered. Thirdly, I loved reading your thoughts about Higgins. I hadn't heard Jeremy Swift's comments about him, and hearing that he was a product of toxic masculinity makes a great deal of sense. It's beautiful to see the growth, and that the show doesn't shy away from admitting how flawed people can be, but also shows that they're capable of being better if they're given the chance. Thank you for the thoughtful analysis, and for taking the time to share. ❤️Jacqui
I get what you're saying, and it is certainly a difficult issue. However, there is responsibility there. Yes, she was in an abusive relationship, but those things are never one sided. The abuser takes, but the abused also gives, and they do have to come to grips with the fact that they did it. They are not released from responsibility by being a victim, they are just granted understanding for it.
@@codykirchner9606 Oh I agree that she should take responsibility for neglecting Sassy and Nora!! In that scene she had just apologized for exactly that, which I loved!! I just didn’t like the wording of “he built an ivory tower he kept you captive in, but you climbed every step yourself” (or something like that) because it sounds (to me) like she’s talking about Rebecca willingly walking into an abusive relationship which is not how it works at all. I agree that she should apologize for how her actions affected others (which she did) but not for the abuse itself you know? idk if I’m making sense but it’s just the wording issue for me, other than that I loved the meaning of the scene. Sorry english is not my first language lol
@@gi8228 I feel like this is an instance where the writers either didn't entirely think the implications through or just worded it awkwardly. Hopefully this isn't too vague of a reference - I'm trying not to spoil anything in case Sam reads this - but there's a conversation in early season 2 that's a bit similar. It's not with or about Rebecca, but the line that the person says doesn't come off great. While I think it's more easily defensible in that conversation than this one, given the context at play and neither party knowing the other's full background, to me it has the same "is this really what you guys meant to say?" vibe.
Fun fact Rupert’s fiancé/wife was Jason’s (Ted) real life girl friend Keely Hazel who he based the character Keely in the show. She’s famous for being almost famous and a model, sex tape, etc
Explaining and Enjoying to perfection... this reaction series is up to the challenge of being great enough to 'Add To' a great television series - Ya... 'this' is 'that!'
I've only just found this channel and I've just decided that Sam is an alien who has come to Earth to learn Earth stuff. It's my only explanation for him not knowing so many classic pop culture references haha.
I love that you stop the episodes when you talk. I have seen so many reactions where people just talk while the movie/episode continues and they miss so much. So good on you for not doing that. Very much enjoying your reactions so far. And I just love Ted Lasso. Such a great show
For brevity's sake, gonna take off my shipper goggles, not rave about the plot breadcrumbs (IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW), and just say: Yep, dang good set of episodes, and fantastic reactions as always
spend a penny , back in the day women used to have to use a coin operated lock to use public toilets , it cost a penny so hence the term " going off to spend a penny "
That song stuck in my head so badly that I had to learn to play it on piano. I dont know how to play piano, I didnt even have a keyboard. But I bought one on Craigslist and put tape on the keys to remember where my hands were supposed to go. Such a great song: th-cam.com/video/A1AJEv50Ld4/w-d-xo.html
I want to say I love you guys, but that would be a lie. I do not know you, so that statement would be disingenuous. What I can say, that is s true, is I think that your incite is the best of the best. Your reaction is the most enjoyable of all the Ted Lasso reactions I have ever seen. I hope you have continued success on TH-cam and Patreon
No kidding! I respect them for sticking with their original plan, and not keeping it going just for the sake of money (even though I'd watch 20 seasons if they made them!). We'll just have to appreciate what I'm sure will be three perfect seasons! ❤️Jacqui
Interrupt as much as you want. I have seen the show uninterrupted and I am here for your commentary and insights. I am learning lots of details about the show and also about the industry. Please continue the effort.
Aw, we'd love to if we can! I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid, and honestly don't remember much about it, so it would be awesome to go back and react to it. We'll see about adding it to the list! ❤️Jacqui
It’s an awesome joke, but it’s always bothered me that Westley began his duel left-handed. If you are after your True Love you surely would not leave anything to chance, nor extend a fight when time is of the essence. Sorry for spoiling, because I love that movie too.
HAHAHA touché! Definitely doesn't seem like the moment to be wasting time in a duel, but it did give us a very memorable scene, so I can't complain too much. One of my favorite movies. ❤️Jacqui
Constructive criticism: just watch the episodes and make commentary without talking over ALL the most important scenes. It's a bit much. Just enjoy the show as it is... you'll pick up more subscribers that way. Just food for thought. You miss the most important parts every episode. Good luck to your channel!
Thank you for sharing! We appreciate that you've been here for all of our Ted Lasso videos, and that you've taken time to give us your feedback. ❤️Jacqui
So I’ve discovered you guys yesterday and I’ve been binge watching ever since. And in normal speed to! 😂 I appreciate your relationship, I like that you’re pausing instead of talking over the movie. Well done!
"Diamond Dogs" is also the name of a David Bowie album from 1974. The title track from that album is playing at the very end of the episode.
great album. anything bowie did from from his second album in 1969 to "let's dance" in 1983 is perfect.
"they sank one of my battleships" is a brilliant phrase when it comes to shipping 💜
Beard deleted the battleships app from Higgins phone
Every now and again I have to come back to this reaction to watch Sam break at Roy's night out. "Is that the sea? Mother, I'm coming home!"
It gets me every single time. Thankyou Sam.
I love how the show sets up classic conflict tropes that on any other show would be drawn out for the drama over several episodes or more, but Ted Lasso nips it in the bud with character's personal growth and accountability, and forgiveness.
So true! It’s such a rare gem, and you realize when you watch it just how exhausting those tropes get! Thank you for sharing! ❤️Jacqui
It really is refreshing to have characters just talk to each other
That dart scene has become one of the best single scenes in television , per me. I’ve appropriated the “Be curious , not judgemental “ quote.
Absolutely! I even bought the tee shirt!
I think this phrase is crucial to understanding what it is about Ted that makes him Ted.
I love all of Jacqui's "Jim faces" at the camera during certain ominous moments. :D

But they recorded the scene with Hannah singing it anyway and her performance and the way it helped tell the story of that particular scene got Disney to reverse the denial.
Who could possibly say no to her? 😊 I didn't know that, so thank you for sharing! ❤️Jacqui
Never knew that
You can’t cut off the punch line of the Zoro joke
Ted: “ I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here “. 🤣
What I love about this show is that it manages to introduce all the unrealistic sitcom stereotypes and then subverts them by treating them realistically and sincerely and not falling prey to them for the cheap laughs.
Well said!
Randomly watched this reaction today and didn't realize the call back to Episode 7 in the Amsterdam Episode in Season 3. In 1x07, "What are we going to do? Movie night or pillow fight?" "Ok, but one of these days, you're going to say pillow fight and never look back"
Never stop interrupting. I’m learning so much from the commentary you both give
The Diamond Dogs is also a song by David Bowie and is played at the end of the episode. It a song about a gang of men that target a woman but in their context it's a group of men targeting their issues with women.
Wow, we completely missed that! But it fits perfectly. Thank you for sharing! ❤️Jacqui
When Roy Kent rips the bench up off the ground, it’s even more funny because usually they are screwed into the Ground.
"There is such a thing as a personal dart set?"
Rich people.
They have personal everything.
Actually my dad played darts a lot, he had his own set.
"Spend a penny" is british slang for going to the loo, coz in the olden days going to a public restroom always cost a penny
More like 20p most places that charge. Paddington station loos were 20p
I don't think there is an ounce of cynicism in this show. It's incredibly refreshing!
Agreed! Thank you for joining us! ❤️Jacqui
Love your reactions (which I only just stumbled across) - "Diamond Dogs' is one of favorites of the show, that dart scene is something I can always rewatch if I need to cry.

"Can't remember if they even have any songs with English titles."
"In Bridgerton too?"
"Ah, it's a different Celeste."
I really don't mind all the pausing, I loved hearing what you think fresh after the moment happened. Can't wait for next week 💜
Thank you for the feedback! 😊 It really helps us to know that!

LOVE how earnest Nick Mohammed plays being mortified in this season ❤
Yes! That's such a great way to put it! ❤️Jacqui
A great multi-episode setup; in 107 Higgins says "I can't imagine what would happen if *I* told you to fuck off" and then he does in 108.
“Grow up, and get over it.” Words to live by.
Sassy smurf - best nickname ever!
Right??? Love it! ❤️Jacqui

❤️Jacqui
The origin of the phrase being that public toilets originally cost 1 penny to use.
I love the “for the children” clip you guys added when it relates to the show. I have no idea what it’s from, but it’s hilarious 😂
I'm glad we could make you laugh! 😄 That's the goal! (And it's from WandaVision, in case you wanted to check it out) ❤️Jacqui
High praise! Thank you, and we're thrilled you could join us!
❤️ Jacqui
I've only just found this channel and I've just decided that Sam is an alien who has come to Earth to learn Earth stuff. It's my only explanation for him not knowing so many classic pop culture references haha.
I've really enjoyed watching your takes on this show. You compliment each other so well. You get a rare subscribe from me. Please keep it up.
Thank you! We'll do our best! ❤️ Jacqui
Didn't have internet for the whole 2 days but once it got back this is the first thing I looked up. lol
Edit: Love all the trivia from Jacqui lol
You guys are too good to us! Glad you're back! ❤️Jacqui
I love that you stop the episodes when you talk. I have seen so many reactions where people just talk while the movie/episode continues and they miss so much. So good on you for not doing that.
Very much enjoying your reactions so far. And I just love Ted Lasso. Such a great show
Never disappoints! So good
Spend a Penny does indeed mean to use the toilet because you paid a Penny to use it.
You have to pay to use the restroom?? How very dystopian. - Sam
@@theshamelist not really it’s a way of toilets being kept tidy by the attendant, always a low paid gross job.
I don’t mind the pauses, I like the commentary!
Same. I'd rather the pause to chat than talking over the dialogue and you guys missing the next bit .
Thank you for letting us know! It's really helpful! ❤️Jacqui
We appreciate the feedback, so we'll keep with what we're doing. Thank you! ❤️Jacqui
I somehow forgot to subscribe, but still saw this on my homepage and clicked immediately. LOVE YOU GUYS! Also subscribed.
Aw! Thank you so much for the kind words, and for the sub! 😊 We appreciate you! ❤️Jacqui
@@theshamelist Jacqui, your subtle attempts at helping Sam realize humanity and emotional range... *chef's kiss* (Sam, please don't hate me)
The, I’m left handed thing came from Princess Bride
For brevity's sake, gonna take off my shipper goggles, not rave about the plot breadcrumbs (IF YOU KNOW YOU KNOW), and just say: Yep, dang good set of episodes, and fantastic reactions as always
Trust me, I'm screaming internally the entire time 😂 Thank you for the kind words! ❤️ Jacqui
Disneyland Paris is where the good rides are!
spend a penny , back in the day women used to have to use a coin operated lock to use public toilets , it cost a penny so hence the term " going off to spend a penny "
Yall are amazing!
Jacqui, I absolutely love your hair in this reaction! You're so beautiful!
Waiting all week for this
That's so sweet! It's a joy to be a part of your week, so thank you for joining us!

Well blacklist ended and I still don't know who Reymond Redington is..some tv secrets are never discovered
Is the battle ship rebeca and ted lol
Still loving your reactions and insights!
Thank you! 😊 We're so glad you're still with us ❤️Jacqui
If I recall spend a penny refers to public lavs in England that cost a penny?
Too bad you obliterated the dart scene. I've been waiting around for that.
Thank you for the kind words! We're thrilled to have you join us, and we appreciate all of your support! ❤️ Jacqui
Season 3 will be the final season sadly. Tho, might be for the best since it could go out on top before it gets bad!
BBQ Sauce!
Here we have 2.8% milk, so close...
Sois muy divertidos jajja Grandes!
Notification gang, let's go
We appreciate you!
Wait a second, how is Jacqui single? She is smart, funny and sexy. American guys or girls, get it together! :)
Waiting for my Sam Obisanya 😘 Jacqui
I'm just gonna go ahead and say it. IRON GIANT REACTION PLEASE!!!
Aw, we'd love to if we can! I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid, and honestly don't remember much about it, so it would be awesome to go back and react to it. We'll see about adding it to the list!
❤️Jacqui
Love the series, just dint spoil things for him , like Rebecca is a great singer before she sings karaoke
❤️Jacqui
In Sam's defense he said Keely + Roy BY episode 10, which means up to and including episode 10. So technically still correct.
Sound logic. 😘 - love, Sam
I am seeing a therapist, thank you
That is some crazy hating on people who enjoy darts. I don't even play, but that was poorly done
Let. The. Show. Play.
For more than 10 seconds at a time. PLEASE.
You two are funny and charming, but For. Fuck's. Sake.
Constructive criticism: just watch the episodes and make commentary without talking over ALL the most important scenes. It's a bit much. Just enjoy the show as it is... you'll pick up more subscribers that way. Just food for thought. You miss the most important parts every episode. Good luck to your channel!
The Emperor's New Groove ruined children's movies - nothing has ever come close!
Ok. I tried 5 minutes. Sorry.
Love Sam's reaction. Jackie, you detract with your forced laughter and pretentious "facts" of the show comments.
Thank you for sharing! We appreciate that you've been here for all of our Ted Lasso videos, and that you've taken time to give us your feedback. ❤️Jacqui
Couldn't. Disagree. More.
So I’ve discovered you guys yesterday and I’ve been binge watching ever since. And in normal speed to! 😂
I appreciate your relationship, I like that you’re pausing instead of talking over the movie. Well done!
Never stop interrupting. I’m learning so much from the commentary you both give
