I remember watching Brett Goldstein talking about how he WROTE the bit with Jamie, where Jamie has to say he's an "ugly, ugly boy," and him thinking that it was going to take forever to film because there was no WAY they'd be able to do it without cracking up, and I absolutely loved that factoid. What a cast. Rainbow was my favorite ep of the entire second season JUST because of Hannah Wadingham's psyching herself up by being, what, a dinosaur? In the mirror, which is fucking HILARIOUS but then topped IMMEDIATELY by the joyously glorious Juno Temple's, "Fuck, you're amazing. Let's invade France." I mean, there are so many other great moments (the colors matching up with the song Rainbow, "You had me at coach," something mustachioed would turn up to make Roy angry, Issac and Ted getting scared by Roy) but "Let's invade France," is such a great shorthand for wanting to take on the world.
Get out of my head! That is my favorite line from that episode - and possibly the whole two seasons! I literally fell out of my chair and scared my dog, I was laughing so hard!
This episode (2.05) represents the start of "The Dark Forest". Also... fun fact: Phil Dunster actually MADE that shot on the field after they gave Jamie Tartt (ICON!) the 'signal'.
As for episode 5 when Roy learned that it was Isaac who needed help, I cant help but think about the themes of accountability again since he's the one who assigned Isaac as captain. Definitely he has to be the one to help him when he was out of his head.
When The penny dropped with Sam about Nate was funny! Rainbow is my favourite episode, the scene when Roy stands in the tunnel, snaps his knee back in, takes a breath and soaks up the atmosphere send shivers down my spine every time! Love your reaction to this show and also I learn terminology I never knew which is a bonus :)
Another romantic comedy nod in season 2: the fact that Dr. Fieldstone is named that. The radio shrink in Sleepless in Seattle was also named Fieldstone.
I think Roy turning up to the chant 'he's here, he's there, he's every f***ing where' like he's back where he belongs is my fav moment of the show. The build up was corny as hell and you could see it coming from a mile off (just like any true rom com) but it didn't stop it from being super satisfying.
Jacqui's comment about Rebecca telling Ted she needed his help in order to get him to call her so SHE could help HIM is the same thing Clarence did in It's a Wonderful Life to save George Bailey. And, by the way, I LOVE that film. So there!
Great, as usual. And as a little trivia, you’ll notice in Roy’s kabab shop there is a signed photo of George Wendt (most famous for playing Norm on Cheers). George Wendt’s nephew is Jason Sudeikis.
Important note about Nate: every single time he's attempted to have a bit of power or assertiveness, it's expressed itself as nastiness or anger. It's literally his FIRST instinct. Think back to when he immediately called Rebecca a shrew before she promoted him. Nate's the quintessential bullied kid who never dealt with his own damage before gaining power and it's never a good combo.

22:00 The scene was a double whammy. They don't think Nate and his family were " quality display " patrons and he has a hard time standing up for himself. 38:50 I feel like that moment was a nod to the 'Grimm romantics.' The kind of people that love how the 'notebook' ended with the couple dying in their sleep at the same time. Commitment and death are somewhat intertwined.
One fun piece of trivia for the episode Rainbow. At the Kabob place there is a photo of the actor George Wendt, most famous as Norm from Cheers, he is Jason Sudeikis’s real life uncle. Also as to the puns in the episode, as he told the Dr. He feels under pressure and I’m sure that’s his coping mechanism.
Lol, I love the reference to "Notting Hill" in the video description (as well as in Ted Lasso). The readers of Horse & Hound magazine are absolutely delighted!
8:40 "that's not how life works, that's not how logic happens". Many (many!) years ago, in the mists of pre- Google time, my mates and I are were trying to think of a particular name. We eventually gave up, and moved on. A full week later, in the middle of an unrelated conversation, one of my friends blurted out the name. Shocking thing is that we all stopped, knowing exactly what he was referring to. And I still remember the word to this day: "Meteor!" (And yes, of course, we gave him playful sh1t for it for years afterwards).
I like to think that Richmond's players were learning about movies through the movie nights before match days (because they never choose pillow fight night) (and it's one of the jokes that most get me)
Another fun reaction! I've always wondered if Nate's spitting is linked to the line in ep1 or 2 of this season where he said "pressure makes pearls" - the right phrase is pressure makes diamonds, but pearls are 'congealed oyster spit' (to quote Margaret Atwood). Anyway, looking forward to the Patreon launch on Friday!
I loved that fun fact about their screen names. I also remember getting fed up with the punning in episode 5 too. Lastly can I please see that Nightmare Before Christmas ring.💗💜💙
Just realised on the rewatch that at the point Sam says it’s not a misdirect it’s a plot point, the colour of Nate’s shirt is claret - which is West Ham’s main shirt colour
A woman that would then be, not only Rob Reiner's mother, but the wife of the brilliant and hysterical Carl Reiner. Not surprising she can deliver a punchline.
I remember reading somewhere that Ryan knew Reiner’s mum was in the scene and kept asking for notes on how to fake an orgasm, so Reiner had to fake loud orgasms in front of his mother. No idea how true that is, but it tickles me.
do remember that rom-coms have been a common genre for centuries, with “taming of the shrew” being an example. …and you could say that the “realization moment and running to your true love” has also been a common trope for a while now. “The Apartment” (1960) is an example.

Soccer fan checking in. "The Dark Arts" refers to tactics that are 'kind of' cheating, but the referee sometimes doesn't call. Team has one of their players gets taken down? "OW! MY LEG!!" They tried to BREAK MY LEG!!" while flopping around on the ground trying to to get a foul called. Change of possession for a team in the lead late in the game? Yeah, I'll try to take a minute to put the ball back into play, instead of the 15-20sec it should take. You're both right..you don't have to know *anything* about soccer to enjoy the show. But there are so many "Easter Eggs" for those of us who love the game that it adds another layer of joy over the top of it.
The late great legend Nora Ephron would have enjoyed how they used her work in this ep. So fun. Are you guys gonna react to other Emmy noms? Highly recommend Severance. Not many reactors have done it yet since it's new but omg soooo good.
I think she meant barely. He has extremely little screentime in episodes 4-5. One scene in 4, and in the original script for 5, the writers even forgot to give him a single line at all (Beard initially was the one who mentioned the three Kates).
Congrats on the 1K subs! Def check out the patreon. 'Boy, I love meeting people’s moms. It’s like reading an instruction manual as to why they’re nuts.' Maybe my fave Lasso quote! 😀
11:08 earlier this season in the Premier League, Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace, in white) reverse-engineered his Hogwarts training to provoke Liverpool's Darwin Nunez into doing something rash. (Just like how Jamie uses the Dark Arts against the Tottenham player in S2E6 "The Signal"...) A great watch: th-cam.com/video/OQ9XfUYk6Xw/w-d-xo.html
I understand people who didn't want a Ted/Rebecca ship, because having two very close platonic male/female friends on screen is very refreshing. But my god, the chemistry between those two characters is so strong, and I don't think the red herring would have worked so well if it weren't for the writers leaning into that.
I scrolled for a bit but didn’t find this bit of trivia that I’m surprised I don’t see. In the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally, the woman who says, “I’ll have what she’s having” is Rob Reiner’s mom, the director of the film.
I think I realize while watching tiis, why it feels like the puns are geting bad. It’s because Ted is off-balanced. Before he was coping im S1 before the divorce, he was coping and he had it under control. Now not so much.
Without saying much, in hindsight I'd only like that they had acknowledged what might be going on with Nate a bit more explicitly. "Word of god" and the actor clarifying things on social media just isn't the same.
They’ve done a double fake out with Ted and Rebecca. The one in Liverpool where he checks his phone when Sassy knocks on his door, thinking it was Rebecca, and this one with Bantr. I’m thinking because they love the rules of three on this show that a third “fake out” will actually not be a fake out and it will be Ted and Rebecca.
I still don't understand the dynamics of the Window Table. Why is it there? How *DO* you get a reservation for it, etc?? People keep telling it's only a TV show and they designed a scenario only so Nate could try to get it. But that doesn't even seem real. We never see anyone at the table, and yet you can't make reservations for it. Is it ONLY for the people who confidently ask for it? It just doesn't make sense.
A bit late, but I think it's just the one really nice table in the restaurant(which is quite cramped), so they might want to keep it open for a VIP. Alternatively, Jade is overqualified and under-stimulated, and is trying to combat the boredom by messing with customers. 😄

Gonna try something ... Emmys: Very cool for everyone involved! However, it's genuinely baffling and frustrating that Phil once again was passed over. Not just for the Emmys, either; he hasn't been nominated for _any_ awards. He absolutely crushed it this season (his work in episode 8 is particularly spectacular), yet he's gotten no recognition. I don't understand it. Episode 5: Love the Isaac scene and all the romcom references! The musical cue of "See her dressed in blue" showing Julie dressed in blue is _adorable_; them being married in real life is the cherry on top. Nate feeling that in order to gain confidence he has to figuratively spit on himself is so sad. Says a lot about how he views himself, and given how we see his father treats him with no affection or appreciation makes it no mystery as to why. Episode 6: I presume you mention it in the full version (or in this one and I missed it), but Phil made that kick for real! On the first try, too. Brendan Hunt put up the unedited version, which you should check out if you haven't already. The scene in the hallway and the locker room are hilarious, though I will say that this episode is one of the reasons I'm so lukewarm on Roy. Him being so petty and childish as to refuse to coach or even listen to Jamie, despite the fact that doing so prevents Jamie - and therefore the team as a whole - from improving is not a good look. Yes it's for comedic effect, but it's annoying. Hot take: Jamie is the more mature one the entire season, especially when taking into account that Roy is 15 years older. And that reveal that Sam is the one Rebecca has been Bantr-ing with ... OY. That completely floored me when I first watched this episode. Much like many, many other things in this show, the seeds were planted long before, but it never even occurred to me. While I'm not super fond of the development due to the age gap and power imbalance, it does the job of being shocking!
@@laurelf.2057 It is CRIMINAL that Phil Dunster hasn't been nominated for anything. Like, it genuinely upsets me, and I will die on this hill. I actually didn't know that he made that kick for real, so thank you for sharing! And yes, the Roy-Jamie dynamic really shows that Roy can be immature, and as annoying as it can be, it's a humanizing character flaw, and I do appreciate that they at least didn't make him too perfect. And it's a great way to show that Jamie has grown and can in fact be the mature one. An interesting flip of the script. As far as Sam and Rebecca, I agree that it was such a great twist moment! I have so much to say about those two when we get further along with them. As always, thank you for sharing! I love reading your insights. ❤Jacqui
I'm surprised no one talks about the clear racism of the posh restaurant not wanting to place a brown skinned family in their window.
I think a couple of film students could have called it Cinéma vérité rather than shakey-cam. Sure, they basically mean the same thing, but... trust your audience. 😉
You guys are crushing it.
Shakey camera=instant migraine and nausea for me, seriously wish they’d stop 😂😂😂 I’ve thrown up so many times in a movie theater 😂😂😂
is the batman still coming or is it just a pipe dream now?
Thursday
Interesting fact on the screen names.

I just wish the show had any sort of LGBT, since the show is always bring up the importance of Healthy Masculinity (especially in the sports field)
