Dave has an image of AEW as this successful groundbreaking company that's going to take over the wrestling business and he wants people to buy into that and he's going to do whatever it takes to make people believe it. Dave has ALWAYS wanted to be someone who could make stars in the business without actually working in it. Now he wants to get an entire company over.
I get the sense from him that he knows AEW is something of a lame duck but he's so desperate for an alternative to Vince, he'll die pretending that it's a cool upstart company when it's WCW lite with a wee hint of TNA.
@@DidYaServe That's a pretty good way of summing it up. You're right. I wanted it to be a good alternative, but they didn't deliver on any of the promises they made in 2019. That hurt my image of them a lot, but a lot of their fans ignored the fact that they were lied to. No sports based wrestling. No healthcare for the talent. They weren't going to sign a bunch of ex-WWE guys.
@@al5306 We wanted a kind of American New Japan. It never happened. Initially, there were too many indie clowns whilst Kenny and the Bucks stick around giving it a bad smell. Only hope would be to remove Tony Khan completely but he'll go down with the ship.

Meltzer has absolutely killed any credibility he has when it comes to judging today's product with any sense of fairness. His inability to give serious negative critique to anything AEW does is as obvious as the nose on his face. And to say Cornette is the absolute last person who should be involved in the AEW creative process just shows how jilted he is when it comes to Jim's opinions on particular guys that Meltzer has close relationships with. Why does Meltzer not comment on Mike Tenay's views of modern wrestling which seem to hold a lot of similarities to Cornette's views? Maybe it's because Tenay doesn't have a weekly podcast? I don't know.
I don't understand why someone like Brian Alvarez doesn't step in and tell Dave that it's okay that Jim has differing views on AEW's booking, The Young Bucks, Omega, etc. Constantly trying to discredit Cornette's ability to help the AEW product if he ever wanted to lower himself to do so just makes him look like a goof.

Alvarez will never tell Dave that as he's his lackey and just as bad in some cases. Dave cannot stand anyone disliking the Elite and AEW, which blows my mind as he used to call out all bad angles, gimmicks, stories etc regardless of company if it deserved so.

@VegetaOrAra oh absolutely. Dave has a well known Japan bias and Jim does tend have a bias towards the old school style but he can admit even when those guys do something wrong. Its just very odd though how vehemently Dave defends these people though, even to the point of seeking people out on Twitter to respond to them, people he doesn't know nor have anything to do with the business

Considering they're a former AEW World Tag Team Champions, as well as current RoH and AAA World Tag Champions, Cornette isn't the only one who thinks so. Also, 5 time WWE/NXT Tag Team champions, so Vince must have liked them well enough, for a team created by the American Dream Dusty Rhodes. Seems old Tony Khan is fond of them as well. As is Bret Hart, who will be in their corner in a match against Pillman Jr and Brock Anderson (with the Enforcer seconding them). They've been compared against Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, which was one of the best tag teams of the 80's in both the WWE and NWA/WCW, holding multiple World Tag titles in both, until Tully's demons and desire for a union got him blacklisted. So 8 times World Tag Team champions, across multiple promotions. That puts them in the top 25.
CM Punk is AEW's best draw so far, and was a former WWE World Champion, so even Vince figured he must be a draw. AEW has also had higher ratings with him as champion verse Kenny Omega as champion, and their highest rated show was his debut. So... yeah, he's a star.

Oh, and AEW essentially being born out of the idea of proving that Dave Meltzer didn't know what he was talking about when he claimed nobody but WWE could do a certain number.
Dave Meltzer is the old grandpa convinced he's still young and hip with the kids. For the record i'm 25 i didn't grow up with old school wrestling i grew up with the Attitude Era, ruthless aggression era and TNA. I don't agree with Jim on everything i tend to agree with Brian a bit more but over all he makes good points at how they could improve the in ring product and his knowledge is evident. Modern wrestling killed the excitement i used to have when watching stuff like the X-Division or seeing someone like Samoa joe preform a dive.

The Bucks and Omega planned this. Blow Dave so good that he falls in love, get good coverage on the observer and hypnotize the marks into liking their gymnastic performances. Now they are considered “legends” by them. Its so abnormal how loyal he is to these three. The day he has a falling out with them will be very interesting.

Dave Meltzer is not a good journalist. But he committed a lot of decades covering wrestling at a time when wrestling didn't have journalism due to the nature of the business. Dave Meltzer runs his publications as TMZ style writing by using insider scoops. The problem is that since he's been doing it for so long he's confused himself as a voice of authority. And the wrestlers that listen to him fuel his ego.

Watching aew made me appreciate how good the NJPW and ROH wrestlers were when dealing with Kenny and the bucks.

Have to admit, when Jim ran Smokey Mountain he used his knowledge as well as took chances with story lines and he really brought back wrestling again the way it should still be. If Dave thinks he can't make wrestling exciting again he really must be buried in his paperwork sniffing too much ink off his Xerox papers. SMW may have only lasted about 5 years, but those were five better years than the last two decades of what we have seen on television which today especially is such a sh!t show and more an indie show.
There's no way if Cornette wrote for AEW that the product would be worse. It'd be exceptionally better.

Meltzer was an outcast to the wrestling business. None of the wrestlers took Dave serious or wanted anything to do with him. Now Twinkle toes and Hardly Boys have taken him in and he finally feels welcomed, and he doesn't want it to end so he no longer stays bias

Jim gets criticized as being too old-school for today's rasslin', and that may or may not be true. I don't necessarily agree with everything he's said, but listening to his podcast has only made me more well-rounded as a wrestling mind, and I don't regret the time spent here.
This level of sense and thoughtfulness has no place on the internet.

There are so many people that worship at the altar of Dave Meltzer. People like John Pollock and others take Meltzer’s word as gospel. If he says the Young Bucks are five star workers. They agree with Meltzer. The church of Meltzer has a lot of disciples that believe everything he believes in. Japanese wrestling is the best etc
