That is the thing I have seen a lot of in AEW. They put what are supposed to be main eventers out there with absolute nobodies. Then those supposed stars have to take 15-20 minutes and barely win. That is beyond silly. In any other era it would be a squash, where if you kinda liked the underneath guy he would get the start of a hope spot, then done.
This is a great point and pretty similar to a thought I had while listening to this… Dave seems to be at the point where someone like Toni Storm, a world champion, having a heatless competitive 7 minute match with an inexperienced opponent is actually a great display of how good of a wrestler she is, because she can go that long with someone who’s green and make them look alright. Which is all good a fine, Toni is definitely a good hand, but the point is that it doesn’t make any booking sense when trying to build an angle for a championship match not even two weeks away with a different wrestler who’s known for being a technician and a badass. It’s a microcosm of Dave and the IWC’s mark mentality, which is that they’re watching not for the angles, the stories or the personalities; they’re watching to see how many moves each wrestler can do in their choreographed routine and how long they can do it for. And that’s precisely why Dave blathers out the word “match” as often as he does… to him, the professional wrestling experience is sitting at home by himself in front of a television or computer and watching matches after they’ve originally aired, often without commentary he understands, and being impressed by how long the match went on and how many flashy suplexes were done, with bonus points awarded if the wrestlers actually look like wrestlers and if the crowd is large and excited about the event. It’s such a soulless and pathetic way to enjoy wrestling, which is why it appeals so much to the type of people who don’t have a life outside of this shit… Dave and his followers have fully convinced themselves that their understanding of professional wrestling is superior to everyone else’s, and since they don’t have anything else, they can’t let it go.
The asteroid Apophis is coming in mid-April 2029. That's why politics doesn't care, that's why the Corona pandemic was a test run for crowd control, and that's why Bill Gates stole Dave Meltzer's mind.

Reed/Gable was back when both of them where potential IC title worthy competitors, both were Tweeners (neither face nor heel persay) like what Dave was failing to articulate in this clip. Tweeners can work... until they turn face/heel irrevocably. Reed turned heel irrevocably doing the Endless Tsunami on Seth Rollins and R-Truth. Gable turned heel beating Sami Zayn's ass after he lost the IC title match in Sami's hometown in front of Sami's family. They are heels, and get booed as they should. Versus most heels getting cheered in AEW bc of the mercurial booking that flip-flops a babyheel into a nuclear heat face
Bronson Reed vs Gable was heel vs heel. One is just a bigger heel than the other. I must have missed the part where Bronson Reed was willing the fans on to get behind him and making comebacks and being the babyface in peril selling like Ricky Morton
Kenny Omega, Bryan Alvarez, Cornette and Brian Last - the babyface stable that wrestling doesn't deserve but they're the babyface stable that wrestling needs
Brian Alvarez is finally talking about the things that others (including Jim and Brian) have been saying about AEW for a while. He mentioned how the storylines aren't making sense due to lack of clarity. More importantly, he's FINALLY acknowledging a lot of the AEW stars are in the same spot now as they were 5 years ago. His rant on AEW lately has been on the same level as his classic WCW 2000 and WWE 2019 rants.
Don't forget. Even though Toni Storm did the character change, she didn't know enough to change up her in ring style. She literally changed nothing about it. Unfortunately, the women's division such trash that nobody can even point that out to her. Ha.
Right? I thought her moveset was gonna be old school or something, with arm drags and maybe a DDT as her finisher. You're supposed to be from the 1930's but your finisher is a snap piledriver? Or that super flippy DDT she did on Riho? Get tf out of here.
Tony treats Dave Meltzer's word like it's Gospel, so Dave feels like he has a personal responsibility to always protect AEW and Tony's feelings. Cause WWE doesn't give a fuck about him or his star ratings 😂
@BBoy4040 Drew is being portrayed as a tweeter. He recently had beef with Damian Priest too. But I'm not here to argue. Muting you, and have a nice day.
Dave's first argument started with "Well, WWE"... Completely deflecting. Lol. His bias knows no bounds and it's insane he just doesn't admit it. Holy shit, he's supposed to be a reporter. Hilarious to watch his madness and bullshittery progress.
Ive been waiting for this!! Thank You Brian and Corny!!! *edit* Please also Review Brian Alvarez's review of Collision yesterday 5/20. He went OFF about aew. I think Alvarez is in a way seeing the light.
Part of the problem, one of many, with Dave Meltzer's argument, is his premise that Toni Storm vs. Harley Cameron was a "very good" match. Except it wasn't. It wasn't a bad match, but it wasn't very good either. It was a fine match. It wasn't offensive to the eyes, it was enjoyable enough on its own merits, but you couldn't / wouldn't reasonably call it a good wrestling match either.
It's not even supposed to be competitive. Toni is the champ. Let Harley Cameron have a competitive match with a Ruby SoHo, or a Kris Statlander. You make your champion look weak when underneath, underdeveloped talent have a "competitive match" with a champ.
Dave's reaction is a combination of a few things: 1. Having legions of smarky, indie-riffic dweebs praise every single thing he's ever said, so he can't handle the slightest bit of counterpoint. 2. Meltzer is absolutely on the AEW payroll and we'll only find that out after either they stop paying him or the company folds.
@@Dale-jr7oj Actually, it was a shoot. They dropped Alan Rickman before the countdown was complete, so as to get a genuine fear reaction in his face. He was furious, apparently.
Alvarez & Meltzer: arguing over the basic details of heel face dynamics for almost 30 minutes. Cornette & Last: arguing over whether a character was a ventriloquist dummy for about a minute or two I love this show 😂😂😂
Meltzer can no longer comprehend that: A. Fans can still cheer heels for being good heels. Or B. It makes more sense to just book faces vs. Heels other than just say "these two will have a good match, to hell with any reasoning behind it" AEW stories have always been second or third priority to the action figure booking.
Gotta love how Dave says "guess what?" like he's going to drop some sort of game changing truth bomb and then starts speaking nonsense. He does it every 2 minutes 😂
Meltzer sounded for all the world like he was defending a payday. Like he knew Khan was going to hear this and either sign the check or not depending on what was said. And thus this full-throated defense of nonsense.
I just started the video, but I just want to say that I actually love Toni Storm. I really like her gimmick and I think she pulls it off really well. Just my opinion
I like how “it works for that crowd” is a phrase you hear from Dave now and he’ll say the matches had nothing wrong with them because of that, and yet he’d rate ultimate warrior really low despite the popularity he had with the audience
I agree with Jim & Brian almost 100% on women's wrestling but I'm as entertained by Timeless Toni Storm as much as I am by any wrestler ever. Her character is tremendous. Her in ring work is solid and her mic work is top notch. *AEW has made it a bit hokey with the black and white graphic that looks like a filter you get on a free app tho
16:48-16:54 "Nooooooooooooooooo ...okay, whaddip-what-whaddip whats what what's this other thing at Toni Storm? What's the other thing at Toni Storm?". I'm sorry ... WHAT?!?!?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Meltzer "I think about business" We're just gonna let that slide, are we? 😅 This from someone who prefers a 7 star "work rate" match in front of 150 people to Hogan vs Rock at Wrestlemania.
Another point to make here is that Dave is hyper-fixated on crowd reactions in AEW while ignoring that there are people who also watch the show at home who are probably confused about who to invest interest in because the booking is incredibly inconsistent and it’s not clear who’s supposed to be rooted for.
1:42 “My god…beat her already!” 5:41 “If it’s more than 2 minutes it was too long!” 7:04 “Fuck online criticism!” 8:52 “Who’s the heel?” “It MATTERS!” 11:45 “When was the last heel vs heel?” 16:46 Dave is stuttering😂 18:57 “sHe’S nOt A heEL!”😂 21:25 “Well, we’ll talk about this next week.” 23:51 “We’ll see when Toni is the face and Serena’s the heel!”😂😂😂 24:10 “BRYYYAN!”😂😂😂 32:32 “Everyone cheered the NWO…”
If this argument was in the Tokyo Dome it would be rated 8 stars
No itl be start of new rating limits 15* ,so he can give SPEEDY Kahn 14.5* for his next appearance

No debate negative 5 stars lol
1 star if he's broadcasting from the Tokyo Dome.
Which is the same as no stars. So we're all in agreement
Negative 10 stars is more appropriate for Dave
Welcome back to Earth, Mr. Alvarez!
Dave Meltzer. Aew mental gymnastics champion.
"ShE's NoT a HeEl!"
-Dave Meltzer (in the tone of a 5 year old who was told no when they asked for ice cream.)
Meltzer keeps falling deeper into the hole….while digging deeper in it😂😂
Apparently the viewership for all of wrestling is down right, including podcasts, but the Cult is still growing!
40 mins? Yes, please!
Bryan Alvarez's gobsmacked response of "Bronson Reed and Chad Gable??" made me spit out my drink 😂😂
As soon as i saw this was 40 minutes i cleared my scheduled and told my kids to go away
Bronson Reed vs Gable was heel vs heel. One is just a bigger heel than the other. I must have missed the part where Bronson Reed was willing the fans on to get behind him and making comebacks and being the babyface in peril selling like Ricky Morton
Last night mega baby face, Reed did a promo basically saying I love to hurt people for moneyyyyyy, brrrrrother
Yeah. They are both heels. Gable is just a level above Reed and the crowd wanted him to lose.
Both heels, showing they're both threats to face Sami.
It was also like 2 minutes long when Sami interfered. HORRIBLE example by Dave.
Bryan’s checks must’ve got lost in the mail due to his honesty for AEW
Nah, he realized that as long as Dave praises them then he still gets paid.
This drops 20 minutes into my birthday.
Thank you, Corny. ☺
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday bro
Happy birthday!

@@BBoy4040even without the old timey stuff. Just be a heel or a face. It's wrestling 101.
Ha.
"The crowd is going to do what the crowd is going to do" ...well the crowd is not showing up or watching on TV so🤷♂️
Part of the reason fans turned on babyface Cena is that soon after he turned, they sanded all the edges off his character.
Both Bryans are good guys now
Tony treats Dave Meltzer's word like it's Gospel, so Dave feels like he has a personal responsibility to always protect AEW and Tony's feelings. Cause WWE doesn't give a fuck about him or his star ratings 😂
“I would rather book for success than worry about online criticism.” Alvarez face-turn confirmed.
Somewhere, Tony is crying and fearing for his life after this truth
Meltzer says "Guess what" and "you know" over and over like a 6 year old. I don't know ANY adults who say, "Guess what?" OVER AND OVER.
Drew is a TWEENER!
Toni is a HEEL!
Dave is on the AEW payroll!
Dave is also trying to prove he was right but people showed him no one cares about the Indy style he likes
Drew is a heel if I've ever seen one lol, he's just a heel who doesn't see himself as one
@BBoy4040 Drew is being portrayed as a tweeter. He recently had beef with Damian Priest too. But I'm not here to argue. Muting you, and have a nice day.
Alvarez is returning to sanity, and I’m here for it.
Bryan Alvarez has finally seen the light
Feet up, joint lit, ready to listen to Jim blast Dave Meltzer for 40 mins ☺️
Hell yeah, I'm about to smoke a big fat Janice!
Ha.
damn I'm doing the same thing
Smoking a bit fat bong toke myself, cheers
Just made a great guac, rolling my j as we speak. Cheers friends
Bout to drain this whole cartridge listening to Uncle Dave get shit on
Dave's first argument started with "Well, WWE"... Completely deflecting. Lol. His bias knows no bounds and it's insane he just doesn't admit it. Holy shit, he's supposed to be a reporter. Hilarious to watch his madness and bullshittery progress.
Uk time 11pm and just got this perfect!!!
Cornette dropping a line from Rush Hour wasn't on the bingo card but damn... bravo!

Dave Meltzer hurts my fkn brain. First time I ever heard him til now, it's like it's been one LONG, ETERNAL SPEECH.
Dave's reaction is a combination of a few things:
1. Having legions of smarky, indie-riffic dweebs praise every single thing he's ever said, so he can't handle the slightest bit of counterpoint.
2. Meltzer is absolutely on the AEW payroll and we'll only find that out after either they stop paying him or the company folds.
People love Hans Gruber in Die Hard, at no point does that make him a baby face though.
I thought him falling off nakatomi plaza was a work
@@Dale-jr7oj Actually, it was a shoot.
They dropped Alan Rickman before the countdown was complete, so as to get a genuine fear reaction in his face.
He was furious, apparently.
My night just went from boring to HELL YES!!!!!
Dave's programming is breaking down here. "Does not compute, does not compute!!!".
With the amount Dave is stuttering I would have thought he was mushmouth from Fat Albert😂😂😂
Sherlock Meltz and Alvarass arguing is always top notch entertainment 😂😂😂

Alvarez & Meltzer: arguing over the basic details of heel face dynamics for almost 30 minutes.
Cornette & Last: arguing over whether a character was a ventriloquist dummy for about a minute or two
I love this show 😂😂😂
Meltzer can no longer comprehend that:
A. Fans can still cheer heels for being good heels.
Or
B. It makes more sense to just book faces vs. Heels other than just say "these two will have a good match, to hell with any reasoning behind it"
AEW stories have always been second or third priority to the action figure booking.
I love it when Meltzer and Alvarez argue about AEW booking. This is a chef's kiss Jim. Thank you for this :)
Can’t wait for this to become an omnibus later on this year.
Gotta love how Dave says "guess what?" like he's going to drop some sort of game changing truth bomb and then starts speaking nonsense. He does it every 2 minutes 😂
I don't care who here's this, I LOVE Alvarez's commentary on any fucking wrestling
Whole time I’m waiting for “BRYANN!”

I have a long drive for work tomorrow and I cannot wait to listen to this.
I'm a simple man, I see "Jim Cornette Reviews Dave Meltzer & Bryan Alvarez Arguing" and the video being over 30 minutes, I click like lol
Statler and Waldorf are finally going on one on one? 😂😂
You can literally feel Dave glitching out.
Meltzer sounded for all the world like he was defending a payday. Like he knew Khan was going to hear this and either sign the check or not depending on what was said. And thus this full-throated defense of nonsense.
Am I crazy or does Dave sound like he perpetually has a mouthful of peanut butter?
I agree, her gimmick is one of the better ones I've seen anywhere in a while.

16:48-16:54 "Nooooooooooooooooo ...okay, whaddip-what-whaddip whats what what's this other thing at Toni Storm? What's the other thing at Toni Storm?". I'm sorry ... WHAT?!?!?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Proof we're living in a simulation: Meltzer glitched out! 😂😂😂
@@dawa7267 Dave is DEFINITELY living in his own simulation, and the head programmer has taken one too many Meltzer drivers. 🤣
Meltzer "I think about business"
We're just gonna let that slide, are we? 😅 This from someone who prefers a 7 star "work rate" match in front of 150 people to Hogan vs Rock at Wrestlemania.
Another point to make here is that Dave is hyper-fixated on crowd reactions in AEW while ignoring that there are people who also watch the show at home who are probably confused about who to invest interest in because the booking is incredibly inconsistent and it’s not clear who’s supposed to be rooted for.
Geez, I feel like episode 343 is going to be a big one. There's at least 2 hours of material on TH-cam.
1:42 “My god…beat her already!”
5:41 “If it’s more than 2 minutes it was too long!”
7:04 “Fuck online criticism!”
