Hand creams are cheap, though, and they often have a thicker consistency. I use my body lotion and my SPF on my hands but sometimes - especially these days when you're constantly washing and/or disinfecting your hands - you need something more nourishing.
Hand creams are more concentrated I believe, thus thicker and not the same as the body counterpart. I do not use them anymore however. I cleaned houses for 20+ years and used them with gloves at night, etc. My hands were horrifying but they did not age much! I don't need them anymore as I clean less and use my face products on my hands. I would still use the Norwegian Formula Neutrogena however if you have dry hands. Not cruelty free but I make an exception on this one. Actually helps.
I would love to see a video about body lotions that are good for different skin types and skin concerns. Also I would love your thought on hand soaps. Thank you for your content
Great video! I really enjoy that you explained the difference between skin on the hands and the face. This year, I discovered that using an SPF for dry skin really helps with my dry hands. I use the Altruists SPF50 when I'm out and about (even during the winter). I've always needed a more occlusive cream for my hands. I tried the Boots oat hand cream and it's lovely - very, very thick.
I'm not that fussy with handcreams, my favourite is a cheap one from Cien that has chamomile in it my mum gets me from Lidl's, I do find alot of body creams aren't as thick or as moisturising as my hand cream even when they have similar ingredients sO I like my hand cream :)
As someone with sweaty hands that used to let my hands dry to the point of cracking and bleeding in the winter due to not using lotion bc it made my hands greasy, I love hand creams. I agree not all created equal. The cheap $3-$4 ones from Gold Bond with a lot of Urea in them work well for me and soak in almost instantly. It has been a life saver.
Lately I bought cerave moisturizing cream for my face but for some reason every time I used it my face became super itchy and red so i decided to only used it on my hands and it was literally the best hand cream I have ever used
i only buy hand cream if i need a smaller container i can keep handy and there aren't travel sized regular lotions. the idea of dropping $95 on any moisturizer, though makes me want to scream
Personally i always use my bodylotion as my hand cream. This is due to the factt that i havent found a hand cream as nourishung as my bodylotion. Although i gotta say, that it leaves a bit of a fatty layer which might be anoying during the day as you dont want this cream to end up everywhere. In conclusion a hand cream for me only makes sense if its formulated to sink into the skin very fast so you wont smear it everywhere. Otherwise you might as well use any good moisturizer/bodlyotion/serum you have.
I often use Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream on my face, especially in the winter at night. Love it. And my teen daughter (acne prone and on Tret) uses that Neutrogena HydoBoost fragrance-free gel body cream from your video on her body and face. I suspect the consistency of the Neutrogena HydroBoost hand cream is thicker since the body gel cream is very lightweight. But it’s very interesting that the ingredients are so similar. Thank you!
Hi Cassandra. Great video!! I use lotion as hand cream all the time. I works most of the time but I find some lotions not so suitable as hand cream. The lotions are a bit more runny and not so pleasant to use as hand cream. But a lot are def fine to use as hand cream. I use empty containers to put the lotion in so it’s suitable for my handbag or just little travel containers.
Very interesting video for a hand cream junkie like I am 😂 I‘ve tried so many hand creams throughout the years and my absolute favorite is the Aveda Hand Relief. It basically feels like a glass of water for my hands. I would love to know your opinion about the Ingredients or overall what you think about Aveda. ☺️
The formula is definitely different between hand and body products. I can only use one occlusive coconut based hand cream on my dermatitis prone hands. None of the eczema brands work, the all sting me. The hand cream consistency would be way too thick for my body so I don't agree with this one Cassandra but I love your videos!
I feel like body lotion moisturizes so much better. I'm so glad I found your video. I was looking up the difference between face & body lotion when I came across your video.
LOL, this is how I shop for everything price per weight versus the marketing! It works great and saves money. Most times I buy the big container and fill a smaller container for the convenience. I keep an Aveeno SPF 60 in my car for the backs of my hands since I hate it for the fragrance but bought when stores were not allowing returns:(
I love my thick La Roche Posay Cicaplast hand cream before bed. It definitely repairs my skin overnight with its 4% Niacinamide and glycerin based. Love it. I don’t use hand cream during the day.
I buy my body lotion in one litre pump packs and it's very basic, unscented, because coating my entire body in something scented would be overwhelming. But I love my super thick, rose scented hand cream just for a luxurious treat after I wash my hands. And per millilitre it barely costs any more than my body lotion.
Cassandra, my manicurist told me to use Nordic Care Foot Care Cream on my cracked and bleeding pandemic hands, and it works better than everything else I’ve tried!
there are a lot hand creams that are cheaper then your examples. like 3 ounces for a dollar, soo... the texture can be thicker and they might be less slimy, so, there is a place for a hand cream, you just have to find the one that works better for you.
that's why I always buy drugstore or very very cheap hand cream. Every time I bought a hand cream, I always thought the same but can't help. I can't carry body lotion bottle everywhere I go.
Oh totally! My skin sometimes gets freakin dry during the winter so I use my body lotion because it's much thicker and vice versa - I use my hand cream in the summer when I want something thinner but still - something, you kno ;)
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n No, I wouldn't go that far lol I meant I use my body milk for my hands as well. That's what Cassandra asked at the end of this video. But I sometimes go the other way - using a face cream ,that I bought but ended up not liking, it for my hands and body. If it works, it won't go to waste this way.
@@KOT9RASolnishko Ah okay. ;) Well I think creams are in many diffrent consistancys and I can imagine a handcream if it is not too heavy can be used as a face cream as well, if you have dry skin maybe. There are also very heavy ointments for excema or so that you can use on the face, they are more heavy then normal hand cream..
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n I think you got the point there. Especially, for winter protection and cold winds, heavy creams should act as a nice barrier, no matter what part of the body you put them on. I mean, if you can use vasoline, why wouldn't you substitute it for just a thicker texture body cream
So I actually read labels quite a bit because I cannot use petroleum, petrolatum, paraffin wax or mineral oil without getting contact dermatitis (There's like 1 or two more that are escaping me). This is in skincare, makeup, and pharmaceutical products. So I like to use lanolin in place of petroleum to give that barrier when I get eczema in the winter. I make a little mixture with my body lotion, lanolin and sometimes I add a little argan oil if I have some. Lanolin has been a lifesaver, specifically for my dry heels.
I love the neutrogena norwegian hand cream (40% glycerin) on my face! Really great for my super dehydrated peely skin in the winter. Glycerin content from 25%-40% can repair barrier. Cerave cream works on my hand (non greasy, absorbs well) but is not enough for my face.
That hydroboost hand cream is awful, but I have a lot of hand creams that are definitely different from body lotions. I need a thicker formula on my hands.
Thanks Cassandra for the informations! I'm living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and during the rude winter here, it is only the Neutrogena Norwegian formula who can gives some relief to my hands. The other creams don't hydrate them enough.
In uk, I brought a lot of cheap Nivea lotion, 200ml for £1.50. I think it's gone up now, over £2. Anyway, I just use that for the neck, ears and hands. Imo it works really well. The most important thing is sunscreen. If you look at the area's where you wear a jumper and trousers, it has no lotion but looks younger than your face and hands. Bascially it's all UV light aging you. Your better off with a cap, sunglasses and uv gloves. I do use cerave on face though. Yes, I don't use eyecream either
Looking at it another way, around 25 years ago department stores in the UK started selling Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv. The night cream was £150 and people were gob-smacked. This level of high-end was new. Even the mid-life, comfortably-off demographic hesitated at that price. Journalists started noticing that the Re-Nutriv hand cream was surprisingly similar with it's '26 rare ingredients' (or whatever Lauder's marketing said at the time) I remember my mother and several of her friends using the hand cream as night cream on their faces and necks. It was £50 and double the size of the night cream. I know and 80 year old who still does this. She has a lovely facial skin - although genes and life-style proably have much more to do with this, I'm sure. Anyway, she swears by her Re-nutriv hand (face) cream!
Hi Cass I have used body creams on my hands and hand creams on dry elbows etc - I buy a hand cream for my bag due to a tube packaging - much easier than lugging around a bottle/jar of body cream. I use my body cream in the house though and keep a pump bottle beside the sink etc. Bear in mind though that I have eczema and my body cream is thick/moisturising, so it isn't a runny lotion that might not give enough hydration. Best wishes.
On of the biggest things I use is a mixture of grape seed oil and olive or straight up olive oil on my hands, because olive oil helps grow and strengthen nails. I also use magnesium oil and Neosporin for that purpose too and for helping to heal cuticles. Then I use body lotion or hand cream depending on the what's nearest me to moisturize and then I use petroleum jelly on my hands to lock in what I moisturized.
I have extremely dry hands and at this time of the year they’re always start to bleed and even water is burning. handcreams never worked for me and especially neutrogena made it even worse. I only use Panthenol Cream (Woundcream) and when it’s especially bad, I put on a thick coat over night and wear cotton gloves.
Shiseido hand cream in a red tube is awesome! It might be the exact duplicate of a body cream, I don't know, but I love it! My hands are really soft and feel hydrated. And for people who are working with papers and really need something that does not leave greasy marks, Working hands in a green container. Much love!
My hands are by far my driest parts of my body so any lotion is a hand cream. I usually just whatever’s closet to me atm since I rarely use lotion anywhere besides my hands or feet. I’d rather just use a moisturizing body wash or exfoliate in the shower. That’s about all I need plus it saves time. I’ve probably only bought hand creams a number of times and it’s usually because the tube is smaller so it’s more convenient to use on the go.
I think that you re not considering the ratios of those ingredients. They might be the same but the formula is very different. I hate body lotions for my hands 😬
A hand cream is nice for when I want something in a small package to take on the go, but yes I agree it's mostly just marketing or money grab. For a price of a St Ives hand cream I can get a medium sized bottle of Nivea or Vaseline lotion that I can use practically everywhere on my body. So normally I'll skip the hand cream and buy the lotion instead, but from time to time I'll splurge on the hand cream. Again, it's nice but not necessary.
I used to buy a separate Shea butter hand cream until I discovered that the eucerin daily hydration cream makes a nice thick hand cream too. And it has spf to protect my hands from aging so I just depot it into a smaller container for reapplication. (And it's so affordable I can stockpile the stuff cuz I use it all the time everywhere)
So this winter weather is taking a toll on my hands. My regular body lotion isn't cutting it. So I looked at my Gold Bond Healing Foot Cream, and used that. It is a very rich formula and it did help. I had this very thought about lotions last night. 😄
I got a hand cream from eucrin that has 5% urea ceramides and im like why not use it on my face, and i did and it does wonders i mean skin is skin eyes, hands, face 🤷🏻♀️well yes some may be thinner than the others
I love the L’Occitane Shea butter hand cream. One large tube lasts a LONG time, and it saves my hands in the winter. I’m a veterinarian and hand washing is constant. But I tend not to need something so heavy for body cream, so I don’t spend as much as I do on my hands and face.
I see a lot of comments mentioning that there is a difference, it s more.convenient spf etc. There are different consistencies in body as well as hand creams, there is a plethora of products to choose from, the question pertinently raised by Cassie is why is the price difference so.high and it is a valid point. Unless you have something a little differently formulated (as I mentioned the Chemistry Brand), the ingredients are inexpensive, yes, packaging costs but three times the price?
I've been using CeraVe Healing Ointment on my lips instead of Carmex. I always have a tiny bit left over and I spread it on the back of my hands. It is working.
Some eye doctors say that retinol is dangerous to the meibomian glands and can cause dry eye. Do you know more about that? I'm kinda scared to use retinol products around my eye area although I don't want those fine lines.
I hear what you’re saying and I believe it but I usually don’t like it when I use hand creams and body lotions interchangeably, well except for healing ointments. I find that hand creams are more nourishing but dry faster, in my kitchen I have a body lotion bottle that I use as a hand cream but I find that it transfers to everything I touch afterwards but I like the convenience of the pump. My favorite hand cream is Neutrogena the Norwegian formula
My hands are so extremely dry in winter, i use a hand cream i wouldn't use on anything but my dryer body bits. (i do use it on heels and toes, though they don't get quite as dry because: socks! It's wonderful on my elbows after rubbing with inside of lemon skin.) i used Herbacin Kamille exclusively for years because i could get it in tins and not fight wasteful, plastic tubes. Now, that's no longer available in that format. i cycle between different brands, always looking for high glycerine content. Body lotion has so much more water that i find it takes some time for my hands to dry and they just don't seem to last as long till reapplication is necessary. i've almost never paid even what Neutrogena charges for their hand cream. i stock up when it's about 2/$5 or $6. And i do get compliments on my soft hands. In warmer weather, body lotion will do, if one has time to let hands dry. It's so humid in summer and i loathe having hands which feel damp. Now, to find a great lip balm. Nothing has ever replaced MAC's "lip treatment" from back in the day. They reformulated and the next one didn't have a hint of iodine smell. i can't imagine that that was the only difference but it just didn't work as well. In fact, nothing has. (i've had a sample of the Laneige Lip Mask but it's just so-so for overnight.)
Fenty Skin’s hand mask is nothing like any of the other products they have, it’s a new formula. Except for the signature fragrance which I just adore. I have tried all Fenty Skin face products up to date and sadly I had to give them all up because I was breaking out of them, but it was just breaking my heart as the smell is so gorgeous and they put a lot of thought and innovation in packaging. But this hand mask is awesome, it has the distinctive smell, and great packaging. You can just rub the tip of the tube against your hands and it feels great. I can’t stop reapplying and smelling it 🙂
I like retinol at night in creams & dph for day, but could really just put them in travel bottles? But the hands not only get dry constantly bfrom washing, they do get more sun exposure & less emphasis on spf than face & neck
I understand what you're saying Cassandra about the same formulas being repackaged and sold at a premium because they call it a hand cream. However I have the same issue with hand creams as I do eye creams. I'm super dry so I need a lot more hydration around my eyes and my hands. I use body lotions after every shower but those formulas don't help my hands. Just like if I use my regular moisturizer around my eyes I get dry skin flakes the next morning. Trader Joe's has a great affordable Shea butter hand cream for anyone who needs that intense hydration.
I buy the frequent user size of the glysomed hand cream and tbh its better than any body moisturizer i have ever used. Especially for dry feet, knees, and elbows
I use Matas glycerin hand cream (it is a drugstore brand here in Denmark), I can purchase 500 ml for a good price and it has no perfume as for my bag I have an SPF hand cream from Hello Sunday.
lol i enjoy these videos too much 😂 sitting here cracking up at Cassandra after having worked all night is definitely cheering me up. My favorite thing to use on my hands is same thing i use on my legs and everywhere else, Aveeno unscented body lotion. Keeps my hands and bits soft😂
I'm just happy about my petroleum jelly 🙂 and I also used that in my hands whenever I feel like they're little bit dry 🙂 ( never going to spend my precious money on hand creams and eye cream ) spend you're frecking money on sunscreen 🙂
Thanks for the great video! Can you please make a video on hand creams that companies have gotten right and that you would recommend (I have eczema and I’m tired of cerave)? Thank you!❤️
I feel like eye creams very overpriced for no reason and using a brightening moisturizer is more convenient. But some eye creams are revolutionary and actually brighten your eyes. One thing that I like to do with my eye creams is use it on my dark spots from pimples. I used the Fenty eye cream on my dark spot and the next morning I swear it kind of faded.
When I think of hand creams I think of a greater need for "barrier" that has no slick feeling - particularly for those of us who work with oil, grime, or machinery. I'm fine with a body moisturiser that is mildly slick, but on the hands it needs to allow me to use tools.
This video makes me overthink the creams I own myself (and I am hella grateful for it) Since my hands dry faster than you can say chili when they get in contact with cold air (winter is pain, cracking, bleeding and shit, the dermatologist said it's a form of dermatitis), so far I have not found a hand creme that really fixes things I tried so many yet almost none of them seem to work and finding some with no fragrance in it is a pain in the stores near me So thanks to you I really wanna invest time and hope it being worth it
I would love to see more content on body care, it’s a definitely underrated topic in the skincare community

I'm not that fussy with handcreams, my favourite is a cheap one from Cien that has chamomile in it my mum gets me from Lidl's, I do find alot of body creams aren't as thick or as moisturising as my hand cream even when they have similar ingredients sO I like my hand cream :)
the beeest hand cream 😂
Can you use handcream also on the face? Would like to hear.
Oooooh! Them curls!!! I is in LOVE!!!!! 💕💜💕
What about body soap vs hand soap? I use a liquid body soap for eczema at my sink and it's way cheaper than their hand version.
TH-cam should give the option to like more than once! Enjoyed the sh!ts and giggles so much. BLESS THIS CONTENT SO MUCH!!! i LOVE You Too, Cassandra!
Some handcreams I use on my very dry face
Omg your hair is beautiful with its natural curl! Great video, thank you 💜
Yesssss so true 🦋💕 i buy handcreams for the convenience of carrying it around though
Oooooh your hair looks nice! It always does, but it’s a different nice this time.
Hey Cassandra,
Can you tell me if I can apply body lotion for my face as well?
And what would be the cons of it?
Thanks 💛👉👈
Cassandra's hair is so cute omg, those are her natural curls right? It's always so nice when she wears it that way 😍
Thank you! As a NYC dry hand person who’s had many exacerbating jobs (barista, dog walker, artisanal ice cream trucker, guitar repair tech, bike messenger, etc.) I NEED a good hand cream.
I’d never repurchased one until I found Burt’s Bees Hemp Hand Cream (couldn’t find it once and tried another variety of theirs and it was greasy trash!). I’m on my third tube. Feels and smells nice, absorbs well and lasts decently without being slippery. Just checked the formula against the body version and isn’t identical - yay!

I keep an Aveeno SPF 60 in my car for the backs of my hands since I hate it for the fragrance but bought when stores were not allowing returns:(
Learning something new all the time from Cassandra! ✨✨
THE CUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRLS ARE 😍 GORGEOUS 😍!!!!! I know you are self-conscious about your hair texture, but it's so beautiful and I love it!!!❤️
I like the Neutrogena hand cream the Norwegian formula it’s cheap and good
I just wanted to tell you that your hair looks amazing😇❤️
😍😍😍thanks for making this video!!! I had asked this question months ago in the comment section 🥺♥️
You just confirmed what I always suspected ❤
I use an eye creak from ea. And there is a BIG difference to „moisturizer“. And handcreams too.
I haven’t bought a hand cream in years! I just use a face moisturizer that didn’t work for my face or that I don’t use anymore
Cassandra, my manicurist told me to use Nordic Care Foot Care Cream on my cracked and bleeding pandemic hands, and it works better than everything else I’ve tried!
I love this channel as much as I love coffee. That’s a LOT!
there are a lot hand creams that are cheaper then your examples. like 3 ounces for a dollar, soo...
the texture can be thicker and they might be less slimy, so, there is a place for a hand cream, you just have to find the one that works better for you.
Hi Cassandra! Happy Monday! Hope you have a great day
I love the Vaseline line of hand creams. Reasonably priced and work well!
Your hair looks great curly!
that's why I always buy drugstore or very very cheap hand cream. Every time I bought a hand cream, I always thought the same but can't help. I can't carry body lotion bottle everywhere I go.
I use the Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream for my hands, and love it.
Oh totally! My skin sometimes gets freakin dry during the winter so I use my body lotion because it's much thicker and vice versa - I use my hand cream in the summer when I want something thinner but still - something, you kno ;)
Hi, do you use handcream on your face? Is that okay to do? Hope to hear.
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n No, I wouldn't go that far lol
I meant I use my body milk for my hands as well. That's what Cassandra asked at the end of this video.
But I sometimes go the other way - using a face cream ,that I bought but ended up not liking, it for my hands and body. If it works, it won't go to waste this way.
@@KOT9RASolnishko Ah okay. ;)
Well I think creams are in many diffrent consistancys and I can imagine a handcream if it is not too heavy can be used as a face cream as well, if you have dry skin maybe.
😂😂😂 I just love your sharp sense of sarcasm! It’s all so true.
The sweet and shimmer hand cream is so good! I always stock up in December to use all year.
Much love!
I love working hands!!! Great hand cream!!
Man Canada in winters right now. 😅 I could go for a good hand and foot cream right now 🗻😆 thank-you for these videos of insight Cass 🦋
I got a hand cream from eucrin that has 5% urea ceramides and im like why not use it on my face, and i did and it does wonders i mean skin is skin eyes, hands, face 🤷🏻♀️well yes some may be thinner than the others
ur curls r so pretty!!
I’ve seen some doctors recommend using Vaseline around the eyes and THEN putting retinol on top of it.
My favorite hand cream is Neutrogena the Norwegian formula
as a student nurse i use the lanollin one (multi-balm) very nice.
I just want to say that i love your hair! Let me say that again. I LOVE YOUR HAIR.
Hi, do you mean you use the handcream on your face? Hope to hear. I have a nice handcream that feels nice on the face but now sure if it is okay. Ha
@@user-gc3rv6jw3n no I don't, I use them just on my hands. But if your hand cream is working out on your face then rock it.
I have a reusable silicon tube which is filled with my favorite body moisturizing balm, which is cheaper and THICKER than any hand cream I have used
I buy the frequent user size of the glysomed hand cream and tbh its better than any body moisturizer i have ever used. Especially for dry feet, knees, and elbows
I use Matas glycerin hand cream (it is a drugstore brand here in Denmark), I can purchase 500 ml for a good price and it has no perfume as for my bag I have an SPF hand cream from Hello Sunday.
I always use body lotions and hand creams interchangeably!
Wow this opened my eyes
I just use e45 on hands and body for any flare ups and dry skin patches. Works for me!
lol i enjoy these videos too much 😂 sitting here cracking up at Cassandra after having worked all night is definitely cheering me up.
This video makes me overthink the creams I own myself (and I am hella grateful for it)
Since my hands dry faster than you can say chili when they get in contact with cold air (winter is pain, cracking, bleeding and shit, the dermatologist said it's a form of dermatitis), so far I have not found a hand creme that really fixes things
I tried so many yet almost none of them seem to work and finding some with no fragrance in it is a pain in the stores near me
So thanks to you I really wanna invest time and hope it being worth it
Mine has Urea and Panthenol. Two must haves for me!
