While it’s utility, versatility & visual appearance coming from Canoo. Let’s hope it’s path to production mirrors more the former rather than the later.
I like Canoo and I want them to succeed, partly also because customers need alternatives. Design and bed options are really beneficial, the mssing 2nd row is a bummer and a stupid decision. Being from Europe, I dig more compact vehicles, Telo does of course win here. From a handyman perspective, I‘d love to see the bed options from Canoo appear on the Telo. Extending the bed and be able to close it would be awesome (look at the mountainbike picture from Telo - imagine just a slight rear bump with 4 MTBs loaded and all forks would be toast).
Canoo is just a nice looking vehicle. Personal choice, but all things assumed equal (price, range, charge time, etc) then I would lean towards the Canoo pickup.
I was skeptical of the size of the Telo unit, but after seeing the MotorTrend article with tall guys in position in their interior mockup I am encouraged by the possibilities.
I have been very interested in the Canoo Bulldog because the number if passengers is as important as having a truck. But your 100% correct that information seems to be changing constantly with no real end in sight. I will do some research about the Telo that I have never even heard of. I thought the over priced Rivian was the only other option Thanks for your opinion
I am in the same position as you, with some investment in Canon, and it's been a disappointment. But I have to disagree with you on two points: The MSRP range on the LSV is $34,000-$50,000. The Telo is going to "start" at $50k. You cannot compare the two vehicles without considering that. The reason they are cozying up to government officials is that the government is such a huge fleet buyer. They don't want bailouts, they want contracts for postal vans, Army staff vehicles, etc. It's a very smart move, while all the other car companies fight over soccer moms. They cozied up to Walmart too, for the same reason, and if Walmart goes big on Canoos, that alone could get their production to scale.
I am all on board with Canoo the van model, but have seen recent videos talking about the truck version. One thing I have seen is that the bed expands to 8 feet allowing me to buy 4’x8’ OSB or drywall and haul that home. The other thing I like is the Canoo has the same foot print as a Prius so it will fit in my garage in van or truck form. What keeps me interested in Canoo is the military truck model, it has this honeycomb structure under the body panels and a tough coating that resists damage when off roading in the bush. There is one other thing and they have been talking about it - the military version has a range of 500 miles. If I can get that in the Canoo van model then I will buy it. I will check into the Telo cause until now I have never heard of it. But like you I really like the Aptera, not very practical for a family vehicle but I would sell my first child to get the 1,000 mile range version Aptera! Thanks for the information and I am now a subscriber.
My main issue with the Telo is the price of their talking about for this mini pickup truck I believe is way too high. If you can keep the price down around $30000 at the most. Then they have something that would work. If people would see the prices a person can buy a EV outside the US or Europe I believe they would be piss off how expensive they make EV in the US. Below shows one of many videos th-cam.com/video/TOA1_1ezeEM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_ChW7N2FBn-be_ws
I wish Telo luck! I wouldn't mind having this inaddition to my Aptera. I was thinking of investing in Canoo but after hearing your assessment, I'll hold off.
Canoo is focusing on the platform. They will use it like the ye ole body-on-frame days. It might be pretty easy to outsource or sub-contract the manufacture of just tops. Also, is there safety testing video of a Telo? I want to see that!
Both fantastic, let's hope they make it to market. I could see the Telo doing well in Europe with it's size. The Canoo, does have the 4 seater or BullDog on site by the by and it says it has 4X4 with 500HP...wow. I'm off to buy some Canoo stock.
CATL is producing a skateboard platform for OEMs to use, which should allow a lot more options in the world-wide market place. When will Canoo catch up to Rivian for the commercial fleet yearly volume.
What you're really looking at between the two trucks is the Telo is the electric equivalent of a mini pickup and the Canoo is a mid-size. For practical truck utility I'd side with the Canoo, the Telo is more of a fun factor truck. Similar to the old Subaru Brat, the modern Hyundai Santa Cruz or even the original Mazda pickups/Ford Courier. Originally there was talk of the standard cab Canoo having jump seats like some of the extended cab trucks do. I suspect if they did it would be just as uncomfortable as they always are. Personally I'll keep my Tacoma for a truck, it's paid for and is a workhorse. I'm waiting for the Canoo LV as a people hauler.
When I will buy a pickup for my forest and farm work, it won't have to be fancy. But it has to be able to do tank turns. And the company has to give me control over every bit of data I generate using that car.
With no transmission tunnel, 3 across seating would add versatility. Jump seats could be added for party hopping. I prefer that pickup trucks be short and have long beds.
Very true on your comments on canoo, but wrong on the need for pickup I Digress, maybe for your needs the smaller truck is Sufficient. But my needs are more on versatility canoo makes more sense. The other opinions and comments on financial and economic points of view I agree with. Very well said. Thank you for the information.
Have you looked at the atlis truck for working and towing range and quick charge they are now called nxu advancing their battery chemistry and quick charging first then building the truck a full size even dually
The Telo with the open front wheels is DOA. Every puddle is going to splash back onto the windshield. Jeepers know. Plus any minor parking bump will bend the suspension, or worse, the frame. Probable won't pass pedestrian safety laws either given how easy it would be to get run over. It's like these people know nothing about the real world.
I placed my Telo reservation yesterday. Oh, and by the way, I think that the Telo charge port should be on the driver's side rear fender for obvious reasons. I don't imagine many people will be towing with Telo. Those who do, should be able to purchase an extension cord to make charging without unhitching possible.
I have reservations for both. I honestly hope that Telo comes out first. My faith that we will see either truck come out as publicly available mass market vehicle is pretty low.
I am excited about the Telo. We need a smaller form factor all-purpose vehicle. It's more versatile for the consumer and far cheaper to produce for the manufacturer compared to building half a dozen different models each with their own design and engineering, as well as separate assembly lines. As much as I am a fan of the R1T it's still more than I'd need, and Alpha turned out to be a scam like Atlis.
You ever think about how the Telo could compete in the side by side atv market? New side by sides with heat and ac are already costing around $40,000.00. I think there could be some overlap there for people that aren’t interested in the off road aspect that much and just want a small utility vehicle.
If I had money to burn I would buy the Telo. The design looks great for a city pickup. Unfortunately, most start-ups will go bankrupt and then good luck finding parts much less than service for it.
If Telo can include a drive by wire and more tech features for safety purposes like what Tesla has, then I will go for Telo. Being a mini pick up lover who is thinking of the new brute and cute Subaru Baja. Telo will surely give Subaru Baja a run for their money. I love a 5 seater mini pick up AWD and so hopefuly Telo will come into being manufactured soon
Its unknown till you know it! Am sure you would have made 10 videos about Tesla in the timeline Elon said he almost failed with the money part. Canoo too will succeed. But Telo is something I will love to own. And also Aptera.
I'm 110% looking for an overlanding rig. Learning more about Telo so we'll see how this shakes out. I do like the interior space and thought process on the Canoo truck with its modular design. Just want more options than the $100K Rivian (I wish), the apparently very flawed Cybertruck (seen enough videos of it struggling in the snow and on hills) and my poor Tesla Model Y who has taken soooo much off-road abuse. Love ya Grey Ghost TMY... You need more clearance and durability though.
I like the Telo, but the aero is going to be terrible, and those vents behind the front wheels will be clogged all winter long. Likewise I like the Canoo minivan (Yes it IS a minivan. Just accept it.), except for the "lifestyle" interior, which wastes all of its interior volume on a social space I won't use, and I suspect most others won't either.
I know quite a few people who would honestly, mostly families and groups of friends. A lot of awesome Kei trucks can have these features in other countries and I'm all for the variety being brought to the USA
Nope I need a truck that can carry sheets and long construction lumber at times. I need standard electrical outlets. I don't pick up day labor. Let me fold the seat down to get 4x8 in the bed. Fine. The Telo sounds great too.
Wait, Wait... Did you just say the Telo is less tall as of that's a good thing? Maybe that's a bonus for car people who want a kinda-truck, but for people who need to drive a truck every day for work reasons, it's not. Likewise, I don't care about seating for more than one, really, though two is good - I do have a passenger sometimes, but mostly I keep my work bag on there. I was excited about the canoo until the range didn't look like it would get realistic, and it just looks like it'll never show up. I was excited about the Telo, but it looks like it'll just be way too small. I think it'll be a really nifty truck, just not great for me. For now, I guess it's not too tragic that I ended up locked in to my lightning for several years to come.
Canoo will never, ever enter production for consumers. They blew it. But it remains to be seen what Telo might be able to do. Its doubtful they'll ever enter production either. 😢
Canoo is years ahead of Telo. They’re in production while Telo is prototyping. Theres a lot of work between those stages. Also building commercial vehicles first is a winning strategy. Those LVs are getting used and abused so they can learn and improve before selling to consumers. This is when the rubber meets the road so keep an eye out around you for canoos in the wild
Interesting just one of the discussions you have is the fact that canoe is financially. There was another company in the Eevee feel that had some of the same issues I think their name was Tesla and everybody waited for them to go completely bankrupt and they did a lot of jumping through hoops financially but it seemed to turn out okay for them. As far as the futuristic look if you look at say the Volkswagen with the cutaway back end or the Willie's or the Ford and Chevy versions of the cab up front pickup truck back they almost have the exact same silhouettes. I guess the case of what's old is new again. Of course you have vastly new technology, materials and engineering. Also as Tesla was presented by many as the ice killer, it was and these are not necessarily us versus them scenarios. There is so much room for both of these vehicles you are comparing to compete with each and both be extremely successful for some reason these discussions always pick this is going to win out over that, so that's saying GM is going to have all the cars and Ford is going to disappear. That is definitely a fallacy argument. Has the fire as producing so many ideas or options I think again to compared to a fairly successful company, Tesla did the same type of thing making all kinds of potential outcomes some delivered and some did not.
Well, when it comes to a 2 seater versus a 5 seater pick-up or Ute as we call them Down Under, as it is with cars, the same scenario seems to apply, namely that of only one or two people in the vehicle [most] of the time. To my mind, a 2 seater is a far more efficient vehicle, especially when we're talking about EV's, as your not having to carry around a lot of extra weight, making the vehicle far more fuel efficient, irrespective of 'fuel' type.
Just saw a Canoo driving in Oklahoma City!
You actually saw one of the trucks?! Was it a manufacturer vehicle? I'm jealous.

The canoe is coming off like a work truck and the other one is coming off like a small City commuter
I like it that you imply smaller = better, while most people just want to have the biggest truck.
Does the Canoo come with paddles? Any free phone time with the Telo? 😁
I have my cellphone from tello.
I really wish we'd see more emphasis on vans in the EV space. Most people who drive pickups or SUVs would be better served by vans.
Canoo started with vans. They delivered some to the government and wal mart.
But you know Americans; they love trucks.
Now there's Kia, Toyota and Honda Canno's shown on CES 2024
I have been very interested in the Canoo Bulldog because the number if passengers is as important as having a truck. But your 100% correct that information seems to be changing constantly with no real end in sight. I will do some research about the Telo that I have never even heard of. I thought the over priced Rivian was the only other option Thanks for your opinion
Canoo's marketing management needs to have their heads examined.
I am in the same position as you, with some investment in Canon, and it's been a disappointment. But I have to disagree with you on two points:
The MSRP range on the LSV is $34,000-$50,000.
Both of these are the Ford Maverick in size which my local Ford dealer is selling for XLT $30K - 33K, Lariat $35 - $37K
I LOVE the Telo, it just makes sense. Man I hope they produce these trucks!
For crash safety, look at the crash test of a VW Eurovan vs Volvo 760. The Eurovan is similar in concept to these 2 EV PU.
The Telo will never pass the sorb test
How about having a bench seat so if needed you can fit three people in the truck
Below shows one of many videos

Tello and Canoe should join forces and combine to make a success of their car factories🧐✅
The canoo should be able to fit seats in the back with a two door like the old extended cab trucks
Still hopeful for that Canoo. Telo seems a flash in the pants styling exercise
A hope canoo makes a tiny gamer/office home on wheels. I want to play gta, trade stocks, and watch CNBC all from the comfort of my mobile home.
Bay area prices that bad, huh?
@@AlRoderick I’m in Coffeyville, Kansas 😂
Yeah alpha was a just a computer studio doing renders.
I would take whichever comes out first.
These aren't in the same class. Excited for both. Canoo is way further along. Yes, you ARE a Telo fanboy 🤣!
Canoo is further along with delivery vehicles, not the pickup
You ever think about how the Telo could compete in the side by side atv market? New side by sides with heat and ac are already costing around $40,000.00. I think there could be some overlap there for people that aren’t interested in the off road aspect that much and just want a small utility vehicle.
If I had money to burn I would buy the Telo. The design looks great for a city pickup. Unfortunately, most start-ups will go bankrupt and then good luck finding parts much less than service for it.
Have a Telo on order, it simply looks right. Will see…
If Telo can include a drive by wire and more tech features for safety purposes like what Tesla has, then I will go for Telo. Being a mini pick up lover who is thinking of the new brute and cute Subaru Baja. Telo will surely give Subaru Baja a run for their money. I love a 5 seater mini pick up AWD and so hopefuly Telo will come into being manufactured soon
Canoo is focused on the skate board platform all the images you have shown ate tops to show the versatility of their skateboard
Canoo will offer 5 seating according canoo support. can forward email if interested in proof.
Canoe is offering the cab design which is a churro seat on their website
It would be hard for anyone to be in EV business and compete with Tesla prowess
Fisker Alaska enters the ring.. at 45k and a 1st qtr 2025 release it 's a valid option if looking at either of these two trucks.
Tesla should buy out one of these companies
Like who gives a shit about how many glove boxes a pickup truck has.
While Canoo has sold thousands of vehicles, you think the company that hasn't sold any vehicles is better????
I think Telo needs to redesign their stubby front end to look more appealing, especially from the side profile. Front view looks good
I like the Telo, but the aero is going to be terrible, and those vents behind the front wheels will be clogged all winter long.
Lifestyle van is set up to do a build in, just like Sprinters
So is Telo a Tesla brand truck?
Nope I need a truck that can carry sheets and long construction lumber at times. I need standard electrical outlets. I don't pick up day labor. Let me fold the seat down to get 4x8 in the bed. Fine. The Telo sounds great too.
The new logo needs to be tweaked
They both look nice
just remember with the Telo extra seats and the passengers that use them will reduce range due to the wait.
Weight of passengers has very little impact on range. (Speaking as a heavy passenger)
For small electric trucks Im more excited for Fisker's and Alpha's. Any thoughts on those?
Anyone know where I might get Telo Truck stl 3D printed files, So I can share it and dream lol
I have reservations for both but I want the Telo more.
Which of these EV trucks is most interesting? Yes!
$50k for that little truck? No one will buy it.
Did you get a chance to drive the Telo development chassis? If you did, how did the steering feel?
Is Telo thinking about using NACC or CCS charging.
They're both interesting designs and I like the Canoo lifestyle vehicle. Sadly, I have little confidence that they will sell retail or even survive.
Canoo will never, ever enter production for consumers. They blew it. But it remains to be seen what Telo might be able to do. Its doubtful they'll ever enter production either. 😢
Neither of them have contacted anyone here or like me.
As soon as I bought Canoo stock it dropped. My bad
Telo as they seem to be following the KISS philosophy. But like all other start ups they will not meet their timeline or pricing.
Cheers
The Canoo American Bulldog has my attention. Perfect for my short trips around town and cargo hauling. Would be better if it went 350 miles.
Canoo would be an ideal acquisition for Apple, since it is more platform oriented
Apple backed out of the deal
Range is important, but have a handicapped person in the family, so can the telo truck be made handicapped accessible like Canoo says it can?
Canoo has delivered EV vans to the Oklahoma Government..
