    Canoo if you’re reading this, small feedback: the steering wheel is a very expensive real estate for JUST mirror adjustment dials. I set my mirrors once. It’s not like I constantly need to adjust them while driving. I would put those controls out of sight.

      Agree @GregV8....and, while speaking of mirrors, the passenger-side version should actually be positioned further forward, so that it can be seen through the "quarter-window" ahead of the A-Pillar. That way, the driver doesn't need to turn his head to see the partially hidden inside edge of the mirror at the current location.

    I hope Canoo survives, such a cool concept. I'm a shareholder and I have a reservation for the small pickup. The potential for this van is immense. A great city taxi, delivery van, and really the spirit child of the old school VW Van with all the windows. I live where the corporate HQ is located, I can't wait to start seeing them around town.

      My goal is to sell the Canoo stock when it's worth enough to buy a van with it! It would be the perfect vehicle for me. I'd put a bicycle rack behind the front seats and load them from the side instead of using a trailer hitch. Enough room to sleep in it but still carry passengers when needed.

Before battery degridation or cold weather impact? I think its a scam. The range for the price is a deal killer. Makes it a scam by my standards. Freedom robbing scam. 50k for 200 mile range. He says he challenges anyone to find a better value. Easy. Corolla accord camry f150 civic prius rav4 even audi a3 is bettee vakue straight up that car js so great cost very similar it has a range of well well over 500 miles and legitly not this 20% on each end of the battery nonesense. Its also way better looking ans you can fill it up at the gas station of the cheap gas it gets 40mpg if you step on it once in a while it gets 1.5 less mpg aversge its really more capable in terms of taking people to farther places easier. From sea to shining sea easily as our founding fathers intended. I personally think these weird things are so terribly ugly.

Doesn’t mean its not suitable. I live in the UK and along with the US I believe the average new car price is circa £\$ 35k. But the Canoo is something different and along with its features probably compares with the next ICE model car up, so not too dissimilar in price. 😊

      If there is enough of a market, then a major manufacturer will release a design at a fraction of the cost and drive this company out of business. If not, this company will struggle to raise capitol\investors while racing to sell its tech and cash out before going under.
      The rich want feature laden super powered luxury vehicles, which is the only niche market able to survive with ridiculously expensive vehicles outside the major manufacturers. That $40k price is a pipe dream meant to lure in investors to help them survive long enough to sell the tech; there is no chance any of these can be built and sold by a small company for less then $100k cost (meaning before they began making a penny in profit).
      Like all the other small start up companies making big promises, I’ll believe it when I can go pick one up for cash and drive it home same day. They sell promises, not vehicles.

      @Miksa ปีที่แล้ว

      I really doubt the visibility would be that great if you test it out. Sure, it has a lot of window, but it also has twice as many wide body pillars blocking your view. The front-most A-pillar is also in a spot no other car has, blocking a completely new sector the drivers need to get used to. And the B-pillar forward of the door isn't any smaller than other cars have.
      I see the Canoo as a clear example of form-over-function. They wanted the looks of a cab-forward van, but they didn't have the guts actually create one and we are left with a badly compromised design and are desperately trying to come up with reasons to justify it. Sure, the driver seat is slightly forward of the usual spot giving a bit of extra rear space. But in the video when Andre climbs in you can see how cramped it makes the space between the wheel well and front seat.
      But the worst feature is the front area they talk about in the video. All of that useless, wasted space because you can't store anything heavier than a pillow there due to crash safety. Compare it to the frunk in for example F-150 Lightning and Rivian that provides a new and highly useful storage that traditional pickups and vans didn't have. The only advantage the Canoo design provides is the lower front window. Sure that's an improvement over modern American trucks with man-height bonnets that can hide a whole car from view. But compared to the M-B eSprinter TFL showcased just couple days earlier with the sloping bonnets that gives a perfectly fine view of the road it is a useless gimmick.

      I actually wanted to clarify the skateboard issue for my own sake, so here is the definition of Skateboard: "A skateboard is a type of configuration for automotive chassis, used for automotive platforms of battery electric vehicles. The skateboard chassis includes a base structure or a platform, which houses the batteries, electric motors and other electronic components fundamental to an electric vehicle. It also has removable and replaceable corner units at the wheels, into which the suspension, steering, powertrain and braking functions are embedded."
      This confirms my belief that most, if not all, skateboards allow the suspension to be swapped, as I speculated in my earlier comment based on my historic understanding. Furthermore, according to wikipedia (I know, not the best source, lol) I was correct that both Rivian and the GM BEV3 platform are in fact skateboards, along with the majority of other players in EV's, such as Tesla. Honestly, on further review, the skateboard platform is not dissimilar to vehicles of the 1920s and 1930s, in which a company such as Duesenberg would manufacture a frame/chassis, engine, and drivetrain, then sell that to a coachbuilder to put whatever kind of body a buyer wanted on it. Hence many cars of that era having a hyphenated name, that of the base platform and that of the coachbuilder. Then main difference now is that the bodies are also being built by the skateboard manufacturer.
      Frankly, modern pickups are essentially also skateboards, in that they use a common set of frame rails, engine, and drivetrain components, then put on the cab/bed configuration that the customer orders, along with the suspension configuration that the customer wants. A good example being a Silverado RST vs a Silverado Trail Boss. The frame, drivetrain, and chassis options are all identical (as are the cab/bed combos offered I believe), but the suspension and other off-road bolt-ons (skid plates, etc) are mounted on the base Silverado platform to create a "Trail Boss" and to give it greater off-road capability, despite the trucks being 90%+ mechanically identical.

The screen on the driver's left is literally just for basic functions that won't change over the life cycle of the vehicle.

      @@Michael-js6gp There are many - the electrical grid in its present configuration can't possibly support the millions of EV's plugged in to recharge. There is presently in this country no serious discussion of alleviating that. Range is an issue, attempting to add more batteries to gain more range results in more weight which detracts from range. Extreme temps affect a reduction in range. Recharge times are ridiculously long. There will have to be some yet unforeseen major technological advancements (batteries with higher energy storage density with lighter weight, much faster recharge times) in order to make EV's practical. To quote an often-used cliche, in order to go along with government mandates, manufacturers are attempting to put the cart before the horse. I am not saying that all EV's are not viable, I am saying they are not viable for all modes of transportation. I have long thought that if some of the hurdles with fuel cells (hydrogen) could be worked out that it would likely be the best energy source, hydrogen is a very common element and the only byproduct of making electricity with a fuel cell is water.

Everybody are so focused on one pedal driving for regen, but in reality this started with Tesla because they found it easier to create regen on the accellerator than make it possible with a smooth deceleration with the brake pedal like the smooth regen Toyota have made for their hybrid cars for years. Then the degree of regen comes after how fast the driver have to stop the car, as simple as that. This also is much more comfortable for the passengers, because we will not have the recktless driving. And if you have to panic brake it's the same pedal, and as you of course know this way of braking with regen also have a lot of other advantages. Like when you are standing on an incline the brakes are on until the trafic lights turn green. Thanks Andre, you are always good at this, a natural talent. You have probebly also seen their marketing og a car with 500 miles range. Could that be like the double cab pickup truck they have created for the defense?

    This past September when I was working as a Congressional intern in DC I saw a Canoo parked in front of the hotel I was staying in and I freaked out because it just looked so cool. I started talking to the folks that brought it out from the company (I’m pretty sure I might have interrupted their plans.. sorry) and they let me sit in it and told me all about this thing and I cannot tell you how very amazing this vehicle is. I absolutely wish I could afford to buy one the minute they go into production because that is how much I fell in love with this car. Full disclosure, I am a bit of a car nut so I have an appreciation for many different mechanical transportation wonders. I own a variety of different old cars in various stages of repair but I would put all of my rebuilds on hold just to have a Canoo in my fleet of cars. Of course I would love to see the battery life be able to last longer for long road trips but with more and more charging stations being added to the infrastructure, the ability to recharge mid trip is getting more accessible. This car might still need a few tweaks here or there for personal preferences and such, but this is one amazing piece of engineering that I can’t wait to see out on the road in the years to come. ❤

    I would move the mirror controls to the driver door panel. Really cool vehicle. Living in Texas I know how hot it can get inside vehicles in the summer. Since there’s so much glass I imagine the A/C system might have a hard time keeping the cabin cool.

    I hope this succeeds, seems to have a large potential market. If they expand to compete with slightly larger trucks like the Fuso Canter (please!) and have options for refrigerated cargo areas, one thing they need to consider is the ability to operate the refrigerator independently while parked, for example by plugging in to run the fridge without draining the batteries during the loading process. Small details like that could make a huge difference to practicality for food delivery.

    One suggestion I would make. Change the rear hatch to a clamshell operation/design just like the Honda Element had. Also, offer a rubberized floor as the Honda Element had with no carpet, this makes it much easier to clean and reduces wear and tear on the carpet.

    • @esperago
      @esperago ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I suppose it depends on the use of the vehicle. It seems like an elevating hatch like with this elevator company version would be preferable. The way those drawers open up out of the back, the hatch makes a necessary rain cover.

    I feel like this company is sorely undervalued right now, especially if they can manage to deliver on the pickup truck they revealed two years ago. SO much potential for the first company that delivers American's an electric mini-truck that's more about practicality than being the biggest monstrosity on the road (which is the case for most American pickups right now). The lifestyle vehicle is also a great example of efficiency design, fitting the capacity of a mini-van into less than the footprint of a Prius.

    I have done quite a bit of van work over the years and I would happily trade that opening side door for a sliding one like most modern vans have. Interestingly the van in the video looked like it only had a door on one side as well. The lower edge of the cranked tailgate and its latch mechanism looks perfect to bash your head on if you are slightly taller.

I love the fact that some main functions like AC is not in screen but rather as buttons. also putting screen on the left so close to the driver makes it that much less distracting for the driver. if you learn it you can use it without looking on it. really nice car. double the range for family version and it will be the car for the family.

    • @curtisgriesel9503

      Mainly because people are heavy, so adding more people and cargo reduces range. The first Teslas were 2 passenger for that reason. Now 5 passenger has become common. Going to 7 passengers or above is going to increase cost and reduce range compared to a 5 passenger car.

I'd love to see one of these innovators create something like this designed for excursions/camping, cheers.

      Our family had that same exact van conversion.
      We slept in many beautiful national parks and mountain camping areas on cross country adventures.
      With the 55mph speed limit, it took SO LONG to go long distances, so my parents saved motel money that could be put in the gas tank by our family camping in the van on many travel nights!
      Plus, it provided a fun place for kids in the family to sleep/camp in when visiting relatives without extra beds, and even in our own large rural yard during summer nights when we couldn't travel to some more exotic place.
      Time for van culture to come back!
