UPDATE from Telo! Good News! th-cam.com/video/3Giajb4F3GM/w-d-xo.html
As a k-truck owner, small trucks are so useful, I hope these guys succeed
Yeahhh, but at the 50k price point you can buy at least 2 k-trucks for that. Frankly, I wish that they, and others, would focus more on hybrids, much more utilitarian.
@@newolde1 I would rather just go full electric personally, I've had enough combustion cars for a lifetime
Inshallah
The best truck concept I've seen so far. Low to the ground, a low front end for pedestrian safety, decent range, all wheel drive, it can tow a decent weight, and it can fit nicely in my small garage. Can't wait until it's available. Love it!
Right. The other day my wife and I were eating at a diner and a Dodge truck parked next to our Prius. FFS, the top of the grille was above the roof height of our car!
@@mk1styou’re right, I have an early 90s dodge diesel and I had a new one parked next to me and I felt like I was in a mg. They have gotten huge
I hope these guys survive, it seems like they have some solid concepts here, and that the market will likely embrace the smaller PU concept if the price point can be kept at their estimates.
Worried the price is too high, BYD will take the idea, slap some common LFP blade batteries in it and price it so much lower no one will care about that extra battery density
Geely has already done it with their Radar brand trucks.@@ParksWithPoints
Chicken Tax is the reason these guys can even exist.
Lol it’s a pos who tf gona buy that hideous truck made by another shady company 💀
It's for the city folk. Ikea runs! I want one! if they can make it a hybrid and the size of a corolla variant that's the perfect one. Kinda like a Previa. 👍
All desirable things are always two years in the future.

@@austinpowers1999Sure it exists, but he and most people on the list aren't getting their CyberTrucks for at least 2 yrs, maybe more.
Never heard of this company before, but I'm a big fan of EV's and compact trucks, so love it when they merge together. I hope they have "great success" (Borat voice).
Love how much you’ve been getting to look behind the scenes in these companies never expected content like this to be regular on this channel 👏
Definitely need more content like this. It separates him from everyone else.
Now THIS is a truck I really Like! Make 'em Smaller everyone!
I love the foldable 3rd row option!!
The idea of a removable top is very International Scout-ish. Love it!!!
Thank you for the Telos update…should look nice in my garage next to my APTERA
Interesting. Canoo is doing something VERY similar and I think they've entered production now, at least for fleet vehicles. Will have to keep an eye on Telo and see if they make it and what the final product looks like.
If canoo succeeds, it will be good for telo. I'm in on canoo, my main concern is projected mileage. Telo could sway me if they can get to production
Yep, I like what both of these companies are doing, Canoo and Telo.
Canoo is basically dead in the water, I was a HUGE supporter of theirs and want them to succeed.
Thanks for covering this Drew. This is very nice, I like it very much. I think they’ll get it right by starting small, wish them all the best. 👍
I'm certainly not in the market for one but I really hope they find success. Seeing actually good solutions to the USA's vehicular conundrums is nice
The EPA ruined the truck market and CAUSED MORE pollution.
Everything is based on size. How many square feet does the truck take up?
An S-10 size truck takes up "X" amount of space and is allowed "X" amount of emissions. (almost impossibly small amount) So S-10 sized trucks are no longer sold. Truck makers build them bigger to comply with EPA regulations.
That's crazy and has led to behemoth sized vehicles.
@@TheBandit7613 yes but now people expect "real" trucks to be huge. The epa was one cause but Telo will need to work to overcome the cultural perception that a truck must be large to be capable.
@@ccibinel Newsflash : Real trucks do need to be huge, especially if the manufacturer expects you to dish out $100k to buy one. I wouldn't pay $20k for the miniature piece of crap advertised in this EV evangelist video.
Really rooting for the Telo team! They represented themselves well.
I think they're a little high on the price, but everything else they're saying sounds like they've really thought this through to get to viability unlike other certain startup EV companies have done lately.
I agree. $50k is going to be a really hard sell IMO. Their big selling point is that it fits in the footprint of a mini Cooper. Well a Mini is $25k. He mentions only needing 5,000 units to break even--I assume that is annually? I guess if they only intend to sell 20,000 - 25,000 per year there might be enough people interested enough in the novelty to have 2 or 3 years of demand which would give them time to--hopefully--scale up production.
Would love to see a standard cab version to have a longer bed and more work utility. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I was so excited to see the Canoo pickup and TELO's design is even better but I feel their artificial size constraint of a Mini coupled with a whopping $50,000 price point will not serve them well. At least with a big truck, you (and everyone else) can see where your money is going.
An extra 2 in. of knee and legroom would greatly improve comfort, and an extra 6" on the bed to make it the new industry standard of 5.5' would improve perception. Additionally, not having a visible, replaceable 5 mph bumper makes this thing look extremely weird, especially from the side.
I think the Ford Maverick hybrid is genius and that size is perfect but Ford isn't making nearly enough of them and dealers aren't selling them for low $20Ks which is the real affordable price point we wanted. Too small and most really don't want it.
Yeah I really look forward to vehicle like this and canoo and cybertruck that don’t have to adhere to the design constraints of ice vehicle. If I were GM I would be using a similar footprint and bringing back the elcamino.
Thank you for covering EVs other than cybertrucks.
This looks like a compelling product. I am interested to see where it goes.
Such a cool concept. I'm tired of huge trucks, but having a pickup is still so great for utility.
Thanks for bringing this truck to my attention. Looks like a winner!
I like the third row on the beach idea, as well as the storage tunnel!
Thank you for highlighting this company. Enjoyed the video. Best of luck to them.
Reminds me of truckla (Simon Geirtz's converted Tesla 3 into a pickup).
The editing and recordings are pretty neat for this one, just noticing the gears setup your team used for the interview 👍
Hope Telo makes it to initial production no problem!
Such a comical fail by the EPA that they introduced and never fixed this horrible trend of larger trucks. Unfortunately convincing truck owners that a small truck can still have good utility will be an uphill battle
Looks like it could be a brilliant pick up. I hope they manage to get it to production and we can get it in the UK 👍
This is awesome. I made a reservation on one of these last month when they first debuted the prototype. So great to see the behind the scenes look.
This concept looks very cool, I’d love to see a compact electric truck like this! Hope you guys are able to make it to production.
Really appreciate what you are doing from many aspects - I started my companies on no tooling and soft-tooling, and similar low production volumes, ramping up as we go. Keep kicking ass, don't cut any corners. Best of luck to you guys.
Excellent vehicle!!
Great, intelligent, well delivered overview. definitely rooting for you!
Looks like a great alternative. Hopefully they can get to production and scale because this concept should be able to be an affordable and flexible vehicle. If they can get into production this may end up being the 2nd vehicle along with Aptera because the cybertruck base model is now too expensive. The utility of potentially moving a back row of people or bikes seems great especially for the vehicle size
Aptera is a scam. You will never take delivery.
Love this! Urban grocery getter 5 days, climbing/MTB/skiing escape pod 2 days. Please count me among your first 500 customers!
The best utility truck in Australia was the 1 ton ford and Holden tray. This was hip high so loading was easy. It could actually carry 1 ton. So ergonomic. Now to get a tool from you tray you need fork lift.
That was very cool. Thanks for the tour! 🎉
Some solid ideas. Enjoyed the video/information. Best to your success!
I'd be more interested in a 6.5'-8' box without mid-gate. Where I live(North Dakota-ish), it gets to -40°F, and stays around 0 to -22°F for 5 months of the year. The last thing that I want to do is open a mid-gate to gain storage in the cold. Further, losing the rear seats for my squad in order to fit hockey sticks or plywood in the back is not ideal. I see their cute little snow shot, but how's the heater and battery thermal management system gonna handle actual cold temps? I love this idea, and I like the performance figures and efficiency, but I see a few things that will make this truck hard to consider for folks in colder climates.
To the makers of Telo. This truck would sell insanely in Europe. Consider a dual launch in Europe and your sales centers in major cities. I know homolgation will be difficult but it would be worth it.
That was the first thing that came to my mind, I think it would be wise for this company to think about the European market and make some changes in advance if necessary
@@phillipbanes5484 Yes, I meant the country of Europe, lol! In the context of this that must have been lost in translation was that for the majority of europe smaller transportation is favored. I didn't think I needed to explicitly state that, but here we are.
@@phillipbanes5484 #sarcasm smh
I'd rather have a single cab with ~6ft bed. Basically the current single cab Tacoma. But this is a good step in the right direction.
I do wonder how they're getting the current energy density. I hope it's not NMC based pouch cells. Cylindrical cells do have a bit higher intrinsic safety factor as each cell is metal armored. It can at least have a chance to reduce the time of major runaway.
Now if this trucklet had LFP pouch cells, that would be fine, and even preferred over anything else IMO. Now that LFP patents have passed, prices have dropped like crazy.
50K is still really expensive for something like this. I know it's a new startup and they don't have economies of scale, but reducing that price I think is crucial. I don't know if getting lower HP motors/inverters and a bit lower capacity battery will reduce the price significantly, but I would try something. 500HP is cool, but totally unnecessary for this.
Something like a ~200HP chevy bolt motor for the primary drive, and another ~100HP induction motor for the secondary would be fine for this. A truck this sized will never be used to tow anything more than a couple thousand pounds.
Love this idea of a smaller utility truck. Only issue is the price is too high, but can understand they'd go for the big performance and higher price for the first 500 vehicles. The real mass production sweet spot would be under $35k, and that'd be achieved with a smaller battery and half the power.. 500hp for this small ute is ludicrous 😝.. I think they're really aiming for the upscale outdoor adventure sports market and not the inner city utility work vehicle which wouldn't require this high performance or longer range.
I agree. Picture models with multiple mountain bikes, gear tunnel with snowboard, multiple rows of seating. What they're saying is much different than what they're projecting. Their identity is confused. Wish this company would succeed but I don't see them getting further than Elio.
VERY neat! Thank you for this video!
This is so dope!!! I love this type of innovation and reimagining.
Finding Tailosive years ago is probably one of the best things I did for my exposure to the EV world. ❤❤❤
Very cool! Great content bro, got me up all night
I am a fan of Kei trucks but have not bought one due to my safety concerns. I like your efforts to make a safe and space efficient design. We just got a Maverick, what Detroit thinks is a small truck! To me, it still seems too big, while providing only a 4.5' bed. I hope this makes it to market. I love the idea of a folding mid-gate/seat back, to provide an 8' bed. Good luck on your endeavor. If it is possible to record the audio on this louder, that would be great, so we can hear all of it.
$50k is kind of expensive up front, but where I work needs vehicles that can transport one person on and off road for 100 or so miles per day. This would work.
After hearing Gali's post-mortem of Arcimoto (go watch that) the way Telo is talking makes a lot more sense with starting slow. Having a break-even at 5,000 units per year is amazing. That means they can actually get the product out there and grow organically as demand picks up. I really hope Telo wins big. It's the form factor of truck that America desperately needs.
Very nice, good info. I’d love to see a video on adding IO to this.
Loving This From The Caribbean.
Very cool. I hope Jason is heading up marketing as well, as full of knowledge and well spoken as he is. I wish them lots of luck and am looking forward to these!
I reserved mine and can't wait to get it. I will be using it for general work around the farm as well as a daily driver.
In Europe many people use cargo vans as pickups. Even have off road vans for the woods and such. This would also be perfect for europe. Our roads arent as wide as America
That was the first thing that came to my mind, I think it would be wise for this company to think about the European market and make some changes in advance if necessary
@@phillipbanes5484 why not??
@phillipbanes5484 bro who cares! No one is talking about that! I lived all over Europe and to see a pick up truck is very rare vs utility vans.. its not that deep. If you have an issue just Google it. Christ this guy is trying to give geography lessons, totally missing the point
Can’t speak highly of how amazing this video was
Love it. Going to plop down a reservation.
I pre ordered, can’t wait to get one
Really like it, lots of potential in their concept. Hope they bring it to market.
Love the concept and really love the transparency of the founders! The snub-nose design will be an acquired taste for me, but if it allows it to fit in my garage, I can get on board.
this is the kind of thing I want to see from a new generation of car manufactures. this is built so it is modular rather than as a whole unit, the skateboard concept is good for cheap low cost solutions but not for longevity.
Thank you so much for raising light to this issue honestly
Looks very cool. Wish them success!
I wish the Legacy OEMs would come up with an “urban” sized pickup truck meant for right city streets to haul modest amounts of materials.
Impressive vehicle and even more impressive team. Good show.
I like their concept. I wish them the best.
WoW, just WoW !
Excellent packaging
This would fit my use cas because of 8 foot bed and folding rear seats.
Your chalk line around your prototype reminded me of Colin Chapman. When he designed the Austin Mini, he used chalk to make an outline of the overall size he wanted the Mini to be. It meant, that the wheels had to be at the far corners of the car in order to have enough room for the passengers.
As someone who usually drives by myself in my Chevy Spark and wishes I had more utility capability, but also sometimes have to hauo children, the design of this truck is perfect for me.
This could be an attractive truck package for many present and future worksites and family transport needs. $50,000? Okay, does that include all configurations from back cover mode (with seats) to open back space beach mode? That could be a sweet offer. Thanks for bringing the TELO Truck and company into the light. I will definitely be sharing this with friends and watching for more news and videos in the future. Peace, health, and cheers!
Let's bring it, I'm a big fan of a small pick up truck!
Good luck and Fingers crossed! This would look good next to my Chevy Spark EV!
That’s pretty cool! I actually own and drive daily one of those kei trucks (technically it’s a kei van), a smaller footprint truck with modern safety would be a dream come true.
10/10. Very very clever! I’d buy one!
The door vent sold me , this is cool lol
This was great!
This is nice I can wait to see this available for purchase. Why don’t you add a ‘frunk’ to the design and get some additional storage space?
I LOOOVE my R1T, but like most modern trucks, especially in US is total overkill, especially for a single person as myself... would totally trade it in for a small but capable EV truck...IF WAS AVAILABLE.
The r1t is still much smaller than all other full size trucks it’s a great truck
At what price point?
All of us want a small capable new truck, EV or gas.
We can't have one.
Xbus another really compelling possibility, but specs (to comply w/ certain Euro standards) make it pretty limiting, especially for the USA
This is a very nice evolution of a vehicle type that’s common here in The Philippines, called a mini cab, or, in some areas it’s called an Elf. These are available as small trucks and small vans., what I see in this video is a really amazing take on that form factor. Sign me up!
As an owner of 2 different kei vehicles I love this idea for truck/ 3 row with a shell. I really hope this company succeeds and continues to put out great ideas and products.
I'm not a pickup buyer, but I really hope this succeeds, because I'd love the van version. Great packaging means exterior like a compact car, but interior that can do anything I would ever need, and decent efficiency. Really is the only vehicle I would need.
I wonder if they could take advantage of exhausting the high pressure of the front wheels to keep the battery cooler.
could it be flat towable for us rvers? 4wd.?
Whats the weight?
6:00 okay so create a version where users can buy a 25kWh, 50kWh, 75kWh, or the full 100kWh version, and built it such that the packs can be added later as needed. With the correct BMS setup there is little reason having modular packs that can be added or replaced over term wouldn't work.
Personally I'd buy a 50kWh with two open battery spots, giving me better weight capacity for around town work, and then buy 1-2 more packs down the line if needed. Heck, I'd even keep them at home on a maintenance charger, and only slot them in when going on trips.
Some people would say it's too heavy to add/remove packs, but I do the same with a small lift for my roof top tent.
All you really need is a single and dual motor version with small and large packs to offer consumers options to meet various needs and budgets.
Looks like the perfect truck for Europe. Most Germans have a 3,5tons covering drivers license.
How do you clean the mud out of the front air channels.
Wow, so many stood ideas in this design. 🎉
Yes! More small truck EVs! Majority of conversations I have with people who still aren’t convinced to transition to an EV yet, usually say something along the lines of “until they make a small Ford Ranger size pick up EV, I’ll have to wait”.
Also, cut that battery in half @53kWh. You don’t need more than 200miles in an EV in 2023- chargers are every 20-50miles. 106kWh is way too much battery. The new benchmark should be to never have more than 70 kWh for an EV battery, if you want more range, get a more efficient (smaller/different shape) car that can go twice as far with the same energy.
I really hope this takes off. The small volume production looks like a perfect fit for the latest ISF, incremental sheet forming technology which can produce perfect sheet metal panels straight from a CAD file allowing for incremental changes as necessary. I would love a ute ( I'm Australian ) like the old Datsun 620 but nobody makes such a vehicle any more. Maybe you could offer a two seat or bench front seat with a bigger tray in a later model?
My only concern is the front crumple zone being in your feet, leaving you as a both legs amputee in case of an accident, i would redesign the front, to also have better air tunnel efficiency, and also have 2 types of bed covers, one like the cybertruck with the camera back mirror, one classic only on top of the bed, and the split of the 500hp should be 330 hp in the back and 170hp in the front. Everything else is great.
Ohh boy. That's what I need here in Michigan. Mostly driving back and forth to work. (Mostly top side 30 miles each way and in that same day dropping off my daughters to school about 25 miles one way. Great for landfill runs, Home Depot, Menard runs. Been eyeing the Ford Maverick hybrid hard. But I work for Stellantis waiting to see if a small pick up will be added to the US. So until then I will be driving my Rusty 2006 Grand caravan almost hitting 300.000 Miles. Good luck on the BEV Telo PU.
I have an Aptera reservation, and a Cybertruck reservation, but this would kill both of those. Make it happen, this is the kind of truck I want!
Indeed this is very nice betqeen product .. allthough i siply love the aptera for being economic and autonomy .. and cybertruck i only buy for pure fun if i know i have not much time to live .. or somebody gives me more money than i need .. yes i have both reservations !!!
Lol I have both reservations and not sure which one to take 😂
Part of the increase in pedestrian deaths are the attitude of the pedestrians. People do not respect vehicles as they did when I was growing up. Children do NOT move off the road when a car approaches like we did. People in parking lots walk behind cars backing up, and in front of cars pulling into parking spots. We are such a litigious society pedestrians DARE drivers to hit them with an “I’ll sue you into the poor house if you hit me!” Attitude.
Also, people aren't paying attention when walking.
Having had two first Gen Tacomas, and an 84 Toyota pickup, I’m definitely a small pickup fan. I’m on my second EV. This might be pretty sweet, hope they survive!
I love it. I have a Ford Maverick 2L Turbo and wished they would bring out a full electric as the hybrid wouldn't cut it for me.
Cheers
I saw my first R1S yesterday here in Phoenix.
Looks good 👍🏻
Would it be able to tow a JetSki, and if so, how would that affect the range?
My dad and step dad both owned Mazda B2200s. It was the perfect size of truck.
THIS is the size truck most people need!
Glad they are using nacs. That in itself make all the difference for road trips
I'd be interested to see the front crash test
Very cool, I wondered why a new electric vehicles would look like the vehicles we currently have, great divergence ! I would assume any statistics concerning trucks, accidences etc would be skewed based on sales, I other words there were fewer trucks sold 30 yrs ago. In other countries such as Belgium people are heavily taxed for any engine over 2 liters, that is the reason for small trucks and cars.
I do like the mini Unimog shape !
Could you have an option for rear suicided doors for the folks in wheelchairs?
