  • On this episode of Startup Showcase I go over everything you need to know right now about electric vehicle startup Canoo. I'll take you through the company's brief history, its brand position, and its models. Finally, I'll give my position on whether or not I think the brand will be successful. My opinion on Canoo's (or any other company's) viability is not to be construed as investment advice. Canoo is listed on the Nasdaq as GOEV. It was founded just outside Los Angeles, California in 2017 by Stefan Krause and Ulrich Kranz. Both founders are no longer involved with the company. Canoo has made solid connections with large corporations and government agencies like NASA and the Department of Defense. Canoo has property across the US for manufacturing, research and development, and management. Canoo currently offers three models, all of which are based on the same skateboard platform. There is the Lifestyle Vehicle which is similar to a minivan, but it has more offroading and camping capability with 350 horsepower. There is the Canoo Pickup, which is a versatile midsize pickup with a bed and payload capacity that can compete with full size trucks and up to 500 horsepower. Finally there is the MPDV (Multi Purpose Delivery Vehicle) which is a van targeted towards fleet and commercial buyers. Like the truck, the MPDV offers plenty of versatility straight from the factory. All vehicles have a range around 200 miles. Thanks for Watching!

    I love the whole concept. The skateboard chassis and interchangeable bodies is brilliant. Good numbers all around, power, range, price and cargo are all pretty good. I really like the look as well. Go Canoo!!

    We love the vehicle, but I personally believe that if they spent as much time in Production as they do in Promotion, we'd all be driving them by now. Stop talking and start building.

    It is refreshing to finally sea company (an American one) who with its quelifications and efforts as well as ideals is finally saying what was lost by GM, Ford, and Chrysler when they became color blind and only saw green "made in America". I a on a fixed income but will be putting my money into Canos stock and hope to trade in my GMC and get one of these.

    After watching your video, I see that Canoo is a MUCH more savvy company than I had expected. I hope they do well and keep the prices low to skunk the Big 3. The delivery van may be their best seller, followed by the pickup. Heck, I'd trade my new* Tundra for one of their pickups now.

    I paid a deposit for a Canoo Bulldog (pick-up) and I've followed the company closely since then and now find myself investing. They have contracts for 50,000 vehicles that include options for more. Being a niche company is not a bad thing if the product you are creating fulfills a need. The only competition I foresee is if Ford electrified the Transit.

    Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle was the first EV that I ever wanted to buy. This was at a time they touted a $35K price tag and maybe a subscription model. I saw one at Fully Charged in San Diego last year, static, not on display. Meh. I now have 8000 miles in eight months commuting with an Arcimoto FUV, and as an Accelerator, I expect to beta test an Aptera by this time next year. Canoo is vaporware by comparison.

    I like the concept, but I see very little chance of success. I've watched Munro visited their site and I saw so much flaws in their press cars. Also zero mentions about production process, technics used or innovations applied. Besides, for 2023 range like 200 miles is way to small. 300 should be minimal option by now

    Only good if they buy it back in 5 years, since there won't be any resale or trade-in value for battery cars. You can't work on it yourself unless you are a programmer and and electrician, so there is no fun for car guys. The charging time and lack of range make it horribly impractical for construction and delivery work. If you think I am taking a battery car into offroad country, you're nuts... I am not running out of charge in the desert or the mountains.
    Add to all of that, it's ugly.
    Hard pass. EV just isn't there yet.

    • @jimwavect
      @jimwavect 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, they're well-suited for deliveries by established companies that work during the day and return to a terminal at night and can easily recharge. How many postal workers or Amazon drivers exceed 200 miles a day?

    • @MaticTheProto
      @MaticTheProto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So many shitty points. 5 years? Batteries nowadays are expected to last in active usage for 10 before dipping under 80% capacity. And when they do that doesn‘t suddenly make the car unusable. You can‘t work on them in SOME areas, but EVS are much less prone to malfunctions and failures than ICE cars due to the smaller amount of moving parts.
      Maintenance and „fuel“ costs are also way lower and in most cases construction vehicles don‘t travel too far and then mostly stand in one place for the day. And as for delivery vans: even some with less range than this one are already in use without issues.
      And as for off-roading… let‘s be real, basically nobody ever takes their suvs, pick ups or vans off road.
      Also, they look good.
      EVs are here and will stay. They have been around for as long as the car itself.

      I would not put it past an existing automaker to come swooping in to own it outright or with a cash infusion to own a good percentage. This would give a legacy automaker an instant EV strategy. Would love it if Tesla did it but unlikely.
