Why are two turbos better than one. At the same time, why are two turbos expensive than a single one when come to repair

it's better because they get more money for repairs

The only thing good about the 2.2 is the fact that ford can keep selling the ranger into markets that are clamping down on emissions,2.2ltrs of emissions vs 3.2 ltrs per same kms travelled, reliability wise- pushing a small engine to power a large vehicle isnt going to last

First of all it is a 2.0 with bi turbo not 2.2. I guess you have a degree in mechanical engineering and have comprehensive case studies to back your views? You know things change over time generally so they improve. look at what they call a big engine now 5.0l well go back the age of the gt 40 a 427cui engine that was a largish engine and yep they still managed to destroy them putting out way less than a current coyote engine.

@@Sabumnim666 so do u think the 2.0 biturbo with higher HP will not have any issues in the long run?

@@tracy062 Take a look back once there was a big block motor at the 7+ liters mark lasted ok now the 5 liter is the big block it lasts well also. Motor cycle engines now last well into the 150000km with little problem before they would struggle to last 50000km and they revved at lot slower and had very small output per liter.
There is nothing to prove that the smaller engines of the newer type such as the bi turbo 2.0 will not last around the same as the bigger older engines.
This is down to better design, lubricants, engine management etc.
If we all stuck to the fear that a smaller better designed engine making more power would proportionately decrease the life of the engine then we would all be driving old clunkers.

@@Sabumnim666 but theoretically you get the point that he is making, you can’t make a 500cc engine to give a 100hp figure and expect it to last. The pressures of the turbos are raised to achieve the higher hp, the higher the pressures, the more stress it is on the engine, is it not?

@@tracy062 The car makers test heir engines to the point of destruction so they can get a value on the warranty they will provide. the 2.0L bi turbo has had failures as have every every engine that has been mass produced. Is reliable well the fats would certainly say yes. there have been issues with injectors not made by Ford but they have replaced and a few clamps on the injector pump etc. This motor is not a real new engine it has been running round for over 10 years. The Landcruiser twin turbo V8 has had its fair share of failures and that is 4.5l

Turbo technology is desperately in need of 'gen 2 or 3' in dependability improvements.
Eliminate mechanical efficiency draining engine power sourcing and the hot exhaust power source for the turbo and
    go to battery power.
Recharge on low demand sections of terrain for turbo battery recharging.
With double battery option for mountainous regions.

They are not using Compounding. Apparently these are good to 80km/hr, then have no chance of overtaking anything (with a load).
