The explanations for zombie strength makes so much sense once you realize that "the zombie is much stronger than a normal human because his rotting flesh is falling apart."
That's not why the Zombie is generally stronger though. Maybe classic Zombies are the rotting Living Dead. Which is honestly more akin to a supernatural being. As the virus didn't necessarily have a case 0. It was just Zombies coming out of the grave. But modern day Zombies are stronger. Because they don't have the regular restraints of a human being. It will willingly do things that will cause far more damage to itself just to complete its goal. A modern day rotting Zombie is obviously weaker. I think the guy who wrote the Z book. Just didn't want to point that out or simply forgot while he was trying to win a losing argument lol.

@@drakkenmensch there's been too many different iterations of zombies over the years but the main consistency that I know of for zombies is that they operate purely on instinct. If we go by walking dead standards then that would be a decent depiction of instinctual drive running the zombie to hunt and consume. If we go by the last of us then it could be closer to reality in that the virus from that universe is based on an actual real life fungus that latches onto ants and essentially zombifies them and in that case its the virus itself that's running the show.
@Primordial Decay except the author of World War Z was a guest so it's very safe to assume the zombies would mostly be based on his iteration... which won't attack a diseased, dying, or otherwise poor host for the virus. Vampires, being undead and also arguably not human but some secret other option would be ignored by his zombies entirely. Also, like, his iteration of zombies have some degree of problem solving abilities, so there is that.
Fun fact: Death Battle was completely inspired by Deadliest Warrior (Chad James and Ben Singer have confirmed this numerous times in interviews). So if it wasn't for Deadliest Warrior, we likely wouldn't have the awesomeness that is Death Battle either.
to be fair, zombie mythology before George Romero is largely different from what we know it as today. pop culture created our understanding of a zombie, while vampires, though they've changed over time, are still largely similar to their original mythology
One issue I immediately have with this episode is that since the two “warriors” are fictional, there isn’t just one consensus about what they are and are not capable of. Some zombies walk, others run. Some vampires are killed by sunlight, others aren’t.
When they said they were gonna blindfold the “strongmen” I just imagined them accidentally grabbing on to the smallest strong guy and ripping him apart. Him screaming and them just thinking “Damn they made this super realistic!”
The hyper-specific statistic that a vampire is at least !!! SIX TIMES !!!! The strength of a top athlete was sending me to begin with, but the fact it was mentioned three times was the cherry on top lmaooo
The funny thing is that 6x a top athlete's strength is a horrendous lowball for most fictional Vampires. Even the Twilight Vampires were fast enough to move at blur speeds and had skin/muscle more durable than Diamond. They would have kicked these Vampires asses and the Zombies wouldn't even be able to bite through the skin.

I was such a HUGE fan of Deadliest Warrior I watched every season and came back for more waiting to know which historical warriors were next to step in the bloody Battlefield. The way Deadliest Warrior ended is the worst fate you could ever give it .I would like to know who's responsible for ending the show in three seasons and who decided to end the show with two movie creatures.You would think the show would end on a high note like a battle between historical Kings. Nope instead somebody decided to end the show on fucking zombies versus vampires.
I find this honestly facinating, cause all these authors and fiction writers magiaclly forgot. Vampires Regenerate, so blood loss is off the table Vampires are immune to disease, so they can't turn into most types of zombies.
Well the Vampires they were using were the 30 Days of Night Vampires aka the "Realistic version of a Vampire" so no Health Regeneration or immunity to disease.

Richard Mackowicz. Dude is a real deal Special Forces sniper. Unfortunately brain cancer got him and he's been gone for quite some time but I always loved seeing him host military shows.
I feel like every single episode of "Deadliest Warrior" is tied for dumbest episode ever. Whether that's a first place tie or a last place tie is up to you.
Some of them had actual good science to them, like how a Musketeer Breastplate could deflect the Chinese 3-barrel gun's projectile and thus giving a higher survival chance to a musketeer merely from the fact that anything but a neck, throat or headshot would be immediately lethal.
I watched Deadliest Warrior around the same time you did and what I loved is that eventually you could tell that they were running out of “Warriors” and just started picking random things to fight each other
Wwz is actually my favorite book. It's incredibly well written and it has a surprising message of hope. Humanity came to the brink and survived and took earth back from the dead. Max brooks actually wrote the book sitting beside his newborn son who was in intensive care. You can tell when his son pulled through because the book gets much more hopeful. If anyone hasn't read it I highly recommend it. It really does give you a sense of hope when the world seems bleak. If humanity can face extinction and win. You can face a rough day and win. I hope everyone is doing well, and if you're not just know this random stranger on the internet is rooting for you and hopes you make it.
The zombie guy is the son of world famous director Mel Brooks. I remember when this came out it was also a Halloween episode which makes more sense as to why it was chosen.

‘The karate guy’ was actually my old instructor and a good friend of my dads. His name is Leif Becker and he holds the world record for most boards broken in 24hrs. Also being on this show was the stupid decision he ever made, great video.
Main question i haven't seen brought up is since vampires are basically undead, wouldn't a virus that causes you to become undead do nothing? In at least one source media, wouldn't tainted blood just make them sick like a cold? I highly doubt a vampire would bite a zombie if that were the case.

I remember watching the post episode discussion, he seemed legitimately upset about the outcome. A lot of episodes feature the "experts" really hamming it up, I think his was actually one of the more authentic intensities.
Rest in peace to Richard "Mack" Machowicz. Great guy, and a phenomenal addition to the show's third season. As silly as this show was overall, Mack is super legit in deserves a ton of respect. Geoffrey Desmoulin is also a very intelligent individual and an expert at biomechanics and accident reconstruction, as well as a fairly accomplished martial artist in his own right, although that doesn't always come across in the show.
Max Brooks is a weird dude but the work he did on World War Z prompted the government to reach out and ask him to work on some disaster preparation council or something to that effect

As a massive fan of this show, this is where I gave up on it, and I'm guessing a lot of other people gave up on it too cause the show was doing decently even in season 3 until THIS episode and then it disappeared off the face of the earth, didn't even get reruns as far as I remember.
I always took the zombie vs vampire episode as a fun/funny Halloween episode. Which is what it was if I remember correctly. The episode that legit pissed me off the most was Celt vs Persian Immortal. The Immortal was in a chariot while the Celt was on foot, in spite of the fact that the Celts were KNOWN for being absolute master charioteers. The Celt absolutely would have destroyed the Immortal of it had been a balanced fight. I never put a ton of stock in the show, I always just thought it was kinda fun to watch , but I remember that episode actually making me upset
It's a joke that the vampire turns into a zombie at the end. 'An undead creatures becomes an undead creature.' I didn't think that was a thing or a possibility in the world of gothic horror.
I remember when this episode premiered, they made like this whole big thing of it and they hyped it up like crazy. And then as anyone could have predicted it turned out SO DUMB
I ADORED this show when I was a kid and it was one of the reasons why I love history today. But looking back on it, there are so many inaccuracies with the warriors and the banter and “trash talk”between the experts makes me cringe. Still I’m thankful for it existing and shaping my interests today.
If I remember correctly, the reason the show didn't get renewed was because the computer guy who replaced Max was always introduced as "a former Green Beret" which was actually a complete lie.
The US military is weird when it comes to unit patches. Take the rangers as an example as you can be part of the regiment in a support unit and wear the scroll. You can go thru jump school where you earn your ranger tab and be considered to be ranger qualified. The only way to be considered to be a ranger is to earn your tab and make it to the regiment. I believe it is the same with the green berets except once you go thru the Qschool you are authorized to wear the green beret. the programmer was in a support unit with the green berets.
This was the episode I checked out of. Cute idea for a Halloween special, but then you remember it’s technically the series finale. There was a lot of passion from the people who worked on the show and all of a sudden it ends with this geek fest of an episode. I knew the show wasn’t coming back, and my dad who I watched it with literally left the room in anger because of how stupid it was, he was a black belt in three different martial arts and a 2 time military veteran, it’s understandable how pissed he was at this.
I think what’s funny about this episode is that the Vampire guys were like “We’re talking about the MODERN Vampire, and he has super-strength and super-speed, and he has NO garlic allergy!!” Which is like… Cool, dude, you just decided to have your vampires be the superhuman ones, seems only fair to have the Zombie team choose World War Z style zombies, or Left 4 Dead style zombies lmao

His 1st book is the Zombie Survival guide. This book reads as a straight forward, well thought out highly detailed survival handbook(happens to take place during) a zombie apocalypse. If you want a story I highly recommend WWZ. ZSG is a fun satirical survival guide and a good companion to WWZ.
Even if this wasn't scheduled to be the final episode of the series beforehand, I think it would have been the final episode either way. This episode was the definition of jumping the shark.

This is still the only episode of Deadliest Warrior I have ever watched. And I only found it during a rabbit hole search after watching a horrible movie called Vampires Vs Zombies that didn’t have a single Vampire/Zombie fight.
The worst thing about this is, that vampires are just as smart as humans. There is no way they would fight a zombie horde just with their bare hands. Let alone bite a zombie which won't do anything. Even if you take all the special powers away from Dracula, the guy is trained in combat, is cunning and knows how to fight battles against larger forces. All the dude got to do is put on his old armor armor, get his sword or morning star and the zombies stand little chance. And it gets even more onesided when you consider that vampires are smart and can use all the same strategies that humans use in zombie movies, but with more speed, more strength, and unlimited stamina.
The reason Mack is making everything about "guns and soldiers" is because he's a former SEAL. He hosted a show called Future Weapons in the early 2000's and he was MUCH better on that show that Deadliest Warrior

I love how they got an author of a Zombie book, making this a SPECIFIC type of a zombie vs a non-specific vampire when everyone does vampires different whitch could change the outcome of tests pretty heavily.
I always felt the obvious sequel for season 4 was "Vampire Hunters vs Anti Zombie soldier" conparing a modern vampire slayer, with a crossbow or serious CQC weapon, against a soldier armored in anti bite gear with a semi auto rifle or lobo.
I thought this episode was awesome, even now to be honest. It was pretty much putting your favorite superhero against your buddy’s with a bit of science and analytics. Great final episode in my opinion.
Honestly the funniest thing is this was actually a two episode premiere when it debuted in the episode before this was the army rangers versus a North Korean group (can't remember the name) so they had like one of the more possible incidents go back to back with zombie versus vampires

The explanations for zombie strength makes so much sense once you realize that "the zombie is much stronger than a normal human because his rotting flesh is falling apart."
That's not why the Zombie is generally stronger though. Maybe classic Zombies are the rotting Living Dead. Which is honestly more akin to a supernatural being. As the virus didn't necessarily have a case 0. It was just Zombies coming out of the grave.
But modern day Zombies are stronger. Because they don't have the regular restraints of a human being. It will willingly do things that will cause far more damage to itself just to complete its goal. A modern day rotting Zombie is obviously weaker. I think the guy who wrote the Z book. Just didn't want to point that out or simply forgot while he was trying to win a losing argument lol.
@@mee091000 "Lack of restraints and full adrenaline rush" is an explanation I can accept, yes. But it's hard to accept a non-supernatural for a being continuing to function without a functioning blood circulation or breathing system to power energy consumption at a cellular level.
@@drakkenmensch there's been too many different iterations of zombies over the years but the main consistency that I know of for zombies is that they operate purely on instinct. If we go by walking dead standards then that would be a decent depiction of instinctual drive running the zombie to hunt and consume. If we go by the last of us then it could be closer to reality in that the virus from that universe is based on an actual real life fungus that latches onto ants and essentially zombifies them and in that case its the virus itself that's running the show.
@Primordial Decay except the author of World War Z was a guest so it's very safe to assume the zombies would mostly be based on his iteration... which won't attack a diseased, dying, or otherwise poor host for the virus. Vampires, being undead and also arguably not human but some secret other option would be ignored by his zombies entirely.
Also, like, his iteration of zombies have some degree of problem solving abilities, so there is that.
Fun fact: Death Battle was completely inspired by Deadliest Warrior (Chad James and Ben Singer have confirmed this numerous times in interviews). So if it wasn't for Deadliest Warrior, we likely wouldn't have the awesomeness that is Death Battle either.

to be fair, zombie mythology before George Romero is largely different from what we know it as today. pop culture created our understanding of a zombie, while vampires, though they've changed over time, are still largely similar to their original mythology
One issue I immediately have with this episode is that since the two “warriors” are fictional, there isn’t just one consensus about what they are and are not capable of. Some zombies walk, others run. Some vampires are killed by sunlight, others aren’t.
When they said they were gonna blindfold the “strongmen” I just imagined them accidentally grabbing on to the smallest strong guy and ripping him apart. Him screaming and them just thinking “Damn they made this super realistic!”

The funny thing is that 6x a top athlete's strength is a horrendous lowball for most fictional Vampires. Even the Twilight Vampires were fast enough to move at blur speeds and had skin/muscle more durable than Diamond. They would have kicked these Vampires asses and the Zombies wouldn't even be able to bite through the skin.

I was such a HUGE fan of Deadliest Warrior I watched every season and came back for more waiting to know which historical warriors were next to step in the bloody Battlefield. The way Deadliest Warrior ended is the worst fate you could ever give it .I would like to know who's responsible for ending the show in three seasons and who decided to end the show with two movie creatures.You would think the show would end on a high note like a battle between historical Kings. Nope instead somebody decided to end the show on fucking zombies versus vampires.

@@kinagrill Pretty much even in the OG comic version of 30 Days of Night the lead hero the sheriff when he heard the description of them doubted they were vampires and thought they were mutated humans on some sort of mutagenic version PCP.
The bald guy was also the host of the show future weapons that was on the military channel. So he’s mostly a weapons expert. Most likely why he didn’t really do anything in this episode.

Some of them had actual good science to them, like how a Musketeer Breastplate could deflect the Chinese 3-barrel gun's projectile and thus giving a higher survival chance to a musketeer merely from the fact that anything but a neck, throat or headshot would be immediately lethal.
I watched Deadliest Warrior around the same time you did and what I loved is that eventually you could tell that they were running out of “Warriors” and just started picking random things to fight each other
Wwz is actually my favorite book. It's incredibly well written and it has a surprising message of hope. Humanity came to the brink and survived and took earth back from the dead. Max brooks actually wrote the book sitting beside his newborn son who was in intensive care. You can tell when his son pulled through because the book gets much more hopeful. If anyone hasn't read it I highly recommend it. It really does give you a sense of hope when the world seems bleak. If humanity can face extinction and win. You can face a rough day and win. I hope everyone is doing well, and if you're not just know this random stranger on the internet is rooting for you and hopes you make it.
The zombie guy is the son of world famous director Mel Brooks. I remember when this came out it was also a Halloween episode which makes more sense as to why it was chosen.

Main question i haven't seen brought up is since vampires are basically undead, wouldn't a virus that causes you to become undead do nothing? In at least one source media, wouldn't tainted blood just make them sick like a cold? I highly doubt a vampire would bite a zombie if that were the case.

Rest in peace to Richard "Mack" Machowicz. Great guy, and a phenomenal addition to the show's third season. As silly as this show was overall, Mack is super legit in deserves a ton of respect. Geoffrey Desmoulin is also a very intelligent individual and an expert at biomechanics and accident reconstruction, as well as a fairly accomplished martial artist in his own right, although that doesn't always come across in the show.

As a massive fan of this show, this is where I gave up on it, and I'm guessing a lot of other people gave up on it too cause the show was doing decently even in season 3 until THIS episode and then it disappeared off the face of the earth, didn't even get reruns as far as I remember.

I always took the zombie vs vampire episode as a fun/funny Halloween episode. Which is what it was if I remember correctly. The episode that legit pissed me off the most was Celt vs Persian Immortal.
The Immortal was in a chariot while the Celt was on foot, in spite of the fact that the Celts were KNOWN for being absolute master charioteers. The Celt absolutely would have destroyed the Immortal of it had been a balanced fight.
I never put a ton of stock in the show, I always just thought it was kinda fun to watch , but I remember that episode actually making me upset

I remember when this came out. I didn't understand what a series finale was so I just spent the next two years waiting for a new season.
I ADORED this show when I was a kid and it was one of the reasons why I love history today. But looking back on it, there are so many inaccuracies with the warriors and the banter and “trash talk”between the experts makes me cringe. Still I’m thankful for it existing and shaping my interests today.

If I remember correctly, the reason the show didn't get renewed was because the computer guy who replaced Max was always introduced as "a former Green Beret" which was actually a complete lie.
The US military is weird when it comes to unit patches. Take the rangers as an example as you can be part of the regiment in a support unit and wear the scroll. You can go thru jump school where you earn your ranger tab and be considered to be ranger qualified. The only way to be considered to be a ranger is to earn your tab and make it to the regiment. I believe it is the same with the green berets except once you go thru the Qschool you are authorized to wear the green beret. the programmer was in a support unit with the green berets.
Turning a vampire into a vampire/zombie would simply make them even more insane.

This was the episode I checked out of. Cute idea for a Halloween special, but then you remember it’s technically the series finale. There was a lot of passion from the people who worked on the show and all of a sudden it ends with this geek fest of an episode. I knew the show wasn’t coming back, and my dad who I watched it with literally left the room in anger because of how stupid it was, he was a black belt in three different martial arts and a 2 time military veteran, it’s understandable how pissed he was at this.

His 1st book is the Zombie Survival guide. This book reads as a straight forward, well thought out highly detailed survival handbook(happens to take place during) a zombie apocalypse. If you want a story I highly recommend WWZ. ZSG is a fun satirical survival guide and a good companion to WWZ.

This is still the only episode of Deadliest Warrior I have ever watched. And I only found it during a rabbit hole search after watching a horrible movie called Vampires Vs Zombies that didn’t have a single Vampire/Zombie fight.
The worst thing about this is, that vampires are just as smart as humans. There is no way they would fight a zombie horde just with their bare hands. Let alone bite a zombie which won't do anything.
Even if you take all the special powers away from Dracula, the guy is trained in combat, is cunning and knows how to fight battles against larger forces. All the dude got to do is put on his old armor armor, get his sword or morning star and the zombies stand little chance. And it gets even more onesided when you consider that vampires are smart and can use all the same strategies that humans use in zombie movies, but with more speed, more strength, and unlimited stamina.
The reason Mack is making everything about "guns and soldiers" is because he's a former SEAL. He hosted a show called Future Weapons in the early 2000's and he was MUCH better on that show that Deadliest Warrior

Don’t vampires have like… superhuman healing and durability? So the test would automatically be flawed when it comes to bleeding them out? Plus, vampire have access to guns too, so what’s stopping them from climbing a building and sniping zombies?
How is a Vampire's intelligence "off the charts"? They're just people. Becoming a Vampire doesn't make you any smarter as far as established lore goes.
I love how they got an author of a Zombie book, making this a SPECIFIC type of a zombie vs a non-specific vampire when everyone does vampires different whitch could change the outcome of tests pretty heavily.

I always felt the obvious sequel for season 4 was "Vampire Hunters vs Anti Zombie soldier" conparing a modern vampire slayer, with a crossbow or serious CQC weapon, against a soldier armored in anti bite gear with a semi auto rifle or lobo.

I thought this episode was awesome, even now to be honest. It was pretty much putting your favorite superhero against your buddy’s with a bit of science and analytics. Great final episode in my opinion.

Honestly the funniest thing is this was actually a two episode premiere when it debuted in the episode before this was the army rangers versus a North Korean group (can't remember the name) so they had like one of the more possible incidents go back to back with zombie versus vampires
