Look forward to your videos each year. Each season with your Dad and family is a blessing, enjoy every second of it because one day all you have left are memories of the men you shared the best times of your life with. Looking forward to more from you guys.
Good video as always. Heard ya talking about the Winchester Model 100. My old man at 72 still hunts with his he got when he was 18. Firearms opens next Saturday here in MD i hope he gets to use it once more.
Great family deer camp video..I remember those days well with my dad..uncles and grandfather…Those days are gone now as they have all passed away.. ME.. at 72 still at by myself..Today with cell phones I call some younger friends who come and help get the buck out of the woods … Where I hunt in Northern Michigan the deer herd has been fairly stable..and the hunting has been pretty good the last decade … thanks for sharing .. ..Eric
Thanks Eric, it is my favorite time of year. My dad is the last old timer left. When I started hunting at the cabin there were almost 20 of us, now we are down to less than 10 most years. My grandpa and all of his friends have since passed on. The last old timer got a little too old to make the trip. He’s in his mid 80’s. I remember all the stories and waking up to a gas light and cigarette smoke while everyone got ready to get into the woods. Was better than Christmas morning for me. Just the greatest memories which led me to loving this place so much. Happy you have good hunting in northern Michigan. With another mild winter I’d expect some better numbers but with the habitat at the cabin it’s not great deer woods. Just enough to hold a few animals! But the chance at something mature is always there.
Ludington Michigan here! My friends and I decided were starting a deer camp next year somewhere on state land. We all have good hunting property but want the deer camp experience.
Awesome! Best part is we are all public land owners! Won’t regret it one bit. Camps are half the reason I hunt. I love being in the woods but getting together after the hunt is the best part.
I had a friend from Michigan that passed a few years back, we became friends by chance, and became best friends. He loved hunting here in Texas, he was a good story teller, and would tell me about his hunting in Michigan. I miss him very much, especially at deer season, he was the best hunting buddy, we hunted together here in Texas for about a dozen years.
Right on nice video 👍 so I guess no deer where harmed in the making. My daughter and I got 2 during bow but now it's day six of riffle haven't seen a thing I have today and tomorrow. The weather has been to warm 😢 well good luck 👍
Not this one! Happy you guys caught up with some deer. We had a tough time at camp. Just not a lot moving while we were up there. Seemed to be more deer this season, at least we had does and fawns on camera. Where they went during season is beyond me. Good luck getting it done in the next couple days.
@arrowheadangler same with us the population is coming up hopefully another good winter and next should be even better. But the full moon and the mild weather is not helping same here there was lots before the rut and then it's like they al vanished they are there just hiding. In October I have day light pictures with 5 deer 🤣 and now almost nothing and all night pics and it's been raining and very windy so they ar hiding in the white cedar 🤷
Dang. Yeah we tried walking around moving to different areas and still struggled. My brother Wes seemed to be in the right place at the right time this season.
Oh man, would love to get over to northern Maine. Looks beautiful up there. How long is your gun season up that way? Ours is 16 days in northern Minnesota.
The old pictures of big deer were before MN DNR let the wolfs get out of control! I grew up in Toivola, 40 years ago the wolfs weren't endangered and now it's even worse.
Nice the Toivola meadowlands area is pretty cool country. The wolves have certainly pushed south. In my upcoming videos my brother has the pack come by. Love the creatures but agree that they can be managed. Currently a federal issue with them being listed but hopefully they can turn it over to the state and the dnr would allow a hunt/trapping season. I think most wolf experts in the area would agree we have plenty of them and they are doing well. Won’t really affect my area as we don’t have enough people that would hunt/trap them or enough of them to affect the population also we are adjacent the national park where they can roam free unscathed but it would certainly help other parts of the state.
I own land and deer hunt right on the Toivola/Meadowlands border. It's been awfully slow the last few years. But it definitely is a beautiful area, and I always enjoy the experience.
Yes, agreed sir. As tough as it is, I know I could go to other places and see deer but part of my enjoyment is just being immersed in nature where I don’t hear dogs barking or trucks going by. Just me and the few red squirrels that pretend to be deer.
In Wisconsin on Friday nights bars and restaurants serve fish it's known as Friday fish fry our camp went out tonight and had fish tomorrow night we're having a smoked chicken for our Saturday meal
Great video but I think u have shooting times wrong looks pretty light out when u told your dad he had 20 min to wait to shoot u can shoot 30 min before sunrise and 30 min after sunset in minnesota
Yes lots of wolves in and around the area. I think the camera brings in way more light than the eye can see. Every time I went to get out of the stand cause legal was over it looked like broad daylight on my camera but I couldn’t see 15 yards in front of me.
Very curious I want to know how you can tell the age of the deer? My uncles go all the time and my father used to, trying to convince my dad to go back out and bring me for a hunt with him and my uncles cause I love watching these hunting videos with friends and family
Looks like you might be a pitcher? I was pitcher once, a long time ago. Love baseball. Anyways, aging a deer is very difficult on the hoof: we guess but might not be anywhere close to right. We just base it off of size of the deer, belly and slouch but only actual way to get a good age is to send teeth in or try to age yourself by counting the annuli on the teeth. Gives a real good estimate. Because of predators in the area and tough winters it gets pretty difficult for bucks to get much past 5 1/2 in our area unless they get some mild winters. They are pretty easy game for wolves after the rut. You should really convince them to get you out there. Best time in the world. I look forward to it more than anything.
lol ,,I love it ,,,a bootlegger once told me what matters most in life ,,,he said I been here selling whiskey for fifty years and never one time ran out of cookies and beer ,, lol
@ I watch a lot of videos from up there ,,it’s astounding what you guys go through to get a buck ,,and then they put them wolves out up there ,,,that’s like having free beer at a bar ,,,won’t be none left.
@@arrowheadangler tomorrow is opening day here for rifle in western North Carolina,,,and I made sure to have some beers n cookies around so I wouldn’t get out of order ,,,lol
7 guys out first two days and 0 deer seen. Life while hunting in northern Minnesota at the moment. Going through some tough years. I wouldn’t trade my camp for the world though. I never know what might step out and being that we’ve had the place since the 40’s it’s tough for me to change that tradition. Always a good time in camp. We’ve relaxed on going out everyday and might go shoot some ducks or walk for grouse. It’s just the nature of having a camp in poor deer habitat. You rely on mild winters to get the deer numbers up. We have unfortunately had a lot of bad winters over the past decade or so. Couple that with predators and it’s a recipe for poor deer numbers.
Man - that was a great video. Hunting camp is such a special time of year. Food, friends and family! Thats what matters.

Sorry for your loss. Something about a close hunting camp that makes for the best deer memories. Even more so than the harvest itself.

Thanks
Great video! We camp up on Johnson every year. Such a great place to be.
Such a great place. Thanks for checking us out!
Thanks for the great deer opening Video,it was slow down south of you to in the big fork country, i will be watching for the next Video
Thanks Steve, was certainly a slow season but we had fun either way. Good time at camp!
Good video. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks! Should be out within a week

Love the videos. Your dad reminds me of my grandfather. We hunt Northern Maine. Hopefully it will come together.

That's how my deer camp hunts tomorrow in Hayward wi we pack something to eat and sit in the stands all day 😊
That is awesome!
Hayward has alot of big forest lands your better off sitting the whole day
Yes, deer move a lot when they decide to move so the chances they come your way increase without spooking if you have the right setup.
Great video ! I am from Michigan and someday I’ll find group to go have camp out of state
Heck yeah man. How was Michigan this season?
@ got 120 inch 8’pt Oct 23 with bow and a 124 inch 8 pt Nov 18 th with bushmaster 450
That is awesome! I saw the back end of a deer once! It was epic. Congrats on the deer. Those are giants in my book
Wilderness Enthusiast shoots nice bucks!
He lives the dream that’s for sure! Lucky guy! Let’s see some more content please!
Was brutal again in north shore. Good bucks on camera last week of October and then they disappeared. Saw 6 deer all season.
I wasnt sure if Friday fish Fry's were big in Minnesota like they are in Wisconsin
My brother has been doing the Friday fish fry for a few years now. It’s become the staple at camp! Good luck this season in Wisconsin!

@arrowheadangler probably just like a scope
@arrowheadangler i have a friend that hunts up there and he hasn't seen a deer but great vid keep um coming
It’s a tough area to see deer lately but sometimes the patience’s pays off! I’ll be sure to keep posting!
Im comsidering investing in a tripod stand
They awesome. I really like the muddy quad pod we have out there. Very comfortable.
I just wish the state of Wisconsin would allow you to keep up tree stands year round like Minnesota does
All depends on where. Us forest service doesn’t allow but we have a lot of state forest that does
Youu must run into ice some years? Is this Lake Vermillion?
North of Vermilion over by Voyageurs. Yes, pretty frequently run into ice. If you check out other videos we have plenty of ice we break.

So let me get this straight...nobody shoots at a deer or even sees one while sitting in their stand?

I never know what might step out and being that we’ve had the place since the 40’s it’s tough for me to change that tradition. Always a good time in camp. @@arrowheadangler 2014 started the slide in Cook County. First time in 48 years I didn't buy a license. My grouse dog was very happy about that.
Yeah, tough to sit all day for 9 days and not see a deer.
Really wanted to enjoy this one but the 1 minute commercials every few minutes made me stop at the 20 minute mark.
Sorry Tim, not sure how to change the commercials. I just hit monetize and they add? Will work on it.
U guys got to many wolves up in that area
