If he loved hunting, then this movie was definitely up his alley. I first watched this movie as a random rental. Me and my friends saw it as teens, and we loved every second of it. That was 24 years ago. Time flies too fast.
Just a complete classic. I gotta watch this movie before gun season every year. I’m a creature with habits, if tings aren’t just so, tings won’t work out.
I am from Escanaba. I lived across the street from where they filmed Reubens house and saw them filming some of those scenes. Schools are closed opening day of hunting season in Escanaba.
I know what the old man means when he says there’s a stillness quietness at night. I’ve been out hunting before. And at night everything is so strangely quiet and still make it almost touched
Tomorrow is the start of Muzzleloader season. I'm watching this tonight and its becoming an annual tradition. Watched it last year the night before season opened and got a deer the next morning. 😀
Spent a year in Sterling Heights, MI when I was a teen. I grew up hunting but there was almost a right if passage to it in MI. Even people who lived in the suburbs would have white tail shoulder mounts adorning their dens. It was comforting to see actually.
I Was Born In Stevens Point, Wisconsin. That's Where I Live Now. But I Was Raised Partly In Escanaba, Michigan. I Lived Pretty Much All My Teenage Years Up There. I Still Have Family Up There Including My Mom. So I Do Go Up There To Visit Of Course. I Got Drawn Into This Movie And It's Amazing How It Was Actually Filmed In Escanaba. I'm Not A Hunter. But I Liked This Movie. Unfortunately Some People I Know Up There Including My Mom Didn't Like It. They Thought Jeff Daniels Made The Escanaba Towns Folk (Or As I Like To Call Eskimos) Look Like Idiots. But I Thought It Was Okay.
I watch this every year, once a day from Nov. 1st to November 14th. Every year I don't watch it, I see nothing. When I do, though, anything with horns 6+ goes down
My friend from the UP refuses to watch it. Says it’s making fun of his people. I think he’s crazy! I’m from the Canadian border in NY and can totally relate to this.
@@HolyRomanEmperor90 I come from upstate NY on the Canadian border. It just like being a Yooper up there. They call us rock eaters down in the city. I love it!
Check out Frozen Stupid. It features a lot of people from Escanaba, minus Jeff Daniels. It's still pretty entertaining though as long as you don't mind a major dip in budget.
We Enjoyed This Funderful Movie💯 Jeff Daniels is so Funny🤣 Happy Ending Reuben Bags his Buck🦌🙆♀️Thanks MC 👍 Happy Friday the 13th MC🥳🎉 1/13/23👏👏🇺🇸Ca🌤4:35pm🎶🎵
I first watched this a couple of weeks ago and I can’t stop thinking about this movie. Partly because it’s so damn funny. Partly because like halfway through I realized it’s accidentally a Lovecraftian comedy. Love this movie though.
What happens at deer camp...STAYS at deer camp. But at least they were drinking Wisconsin beer... But seriously...I no of no person, living it dead...that I would recommend this movie to... And I thought it was interesting.
How about kids who are at deer camp, the night before opening day? 14 year olds! Thats how i did it! Still took me three years before I got my first buck
I don't like Ranger Tom, Jimmer, and Renmar who played by Randy Godwin,Wayne David Parker, and Joe Albright it makes tired by bothering this in my head I pray for the escanaba movie to be removed.I prefer the goonies, who framed roger rabbit and the trilogy hemdale I watched it since I was in my bedroom 😉
@@shelbyseelbach9568 yes, seriously. About 1000x dumber than dumb and dumber.. There's a reason why this movie wasn't a box office hit. Its extremely low budget with incredibly basic situations and painful dialogue. I actually did compliment the movie and say that it had a couple of funny scenes. If it was a great movie it would have had a larger following.
@@adamr8628 you do realize that this movie was a personal project for Jeff that he wrote himself as a play first. Decided to make it a movie for himself and decided to make about 50 copys for friends. It ended up taking off so they released it. This movie was never meant to be mainstream. And it was never meant for people that don’t understand it or that aren’t from Michigan. To outsiders yea it will look dumb, because 90% of the movie people won’t understand the lingo and hidden dialogue. Judge it as you please… but also understand that this wasn’t meant to be seen by the ones who criticize it. I’m from Michigan, and a hunter, i can say it is one of my all time favorites. You’re not supposed to like it because it wasn’t meant for you
@@panteraa9195 I'm a redneck and I can really appreciate a low-budget movie about hunting. I live in the same part of the country.. if that's how it's intended. So don't be surprised if people judge things. I have a different view of it now that you explained it.
My wife, a 33 yr old yooper, got her first buck this year. I couldn't have been more proud or happy for her. She is no longer the buckless yooper
But does she comb her eyebrows with her toothbrush?

They are most areas in the Midwest even in pa from like middle pa up to minisota
The scene when Reuben bags his first buck always makes me tear up, such a proud and happy moment.
Finally discovered what this fever dream of a young memory was called
We use to watch this every year before deer season while drinking beer 🍺 😅
Same here at deercamp
Me and my brothers get around every year on the 14th of November and watch this and have a good time I always look forward to that time of year
Seven more days!!! Ish
Doing it tonight before opener here in mid Michigan!
Same here me and my boys are in our u.p. deer camp and watching while playing ukre, thankfully the cards haven't turned on us yet! 😂
This is one of the most radically entertaining guy flicks I ever saw.

It's funny, but it's also true of when I lived in Michigan, lol. I miss it a lot. My heart will always be in those woods.
Anything free is worth saving up for.
Still here years later, having a cold one the night before rifle opener here in Michigan. Stay safe out there!

Nice to know that after he found his bike, Peewee Herman moved to Michigan and became a DNR Officer.
The fart scene is the best part of the movie. 🤣🤣
One of the greatest movies ever! It's a shame TH-cam had to screw it up with useless ads every 30 friggin seconds.
