  • The shutter button mechanism was really stuck so it was not possible to advance the camera in my old Canon P, it was really a shame that I could NOT repair it because of worn out parts. So this is just a video about, how to assemble the camera again, and a tour inside the mechanism. I hope it can help some one to possible repair ther camera.
Before disassemble, take good care and notes of how the rangefinder window is sitting, and set some small marks before taken apart.

I have a canon P myself. Just got it a few days ago. I am really excited because its such a pretty camera. I tested it with a shutter curtain and sadly it's a bit slow overall. Especially in the higher speeds. Now I really hope i can get them up within the canon tolerances but I am still fairly new to fixing cameras so I still need to learn a lot.
Anyway, I was looking for information about the repair and as you are saying the repair manual is basically just exploded views and part lists. after searching and searching I stumbled upon the manual of the canon IV-S2. It's a rangefinder that's a bit older than the canon p. This manual has a lot more information and guides. In case you ever need more info.

Phenomenal video. Thank you for recording and posting this kind of content. It's a shame that it couldn't be repaired because they are such beautiful cameras.

Hey I really like your videos and recently tried to fix a lens myself, but as I cleaned the glass parts from fungus (as you do it in your other videos) white dots appeared everywhere on the glass. I can't post a link here but it looks like the Hydrogenperoxide (3%) ruined it completely I am pretty sad and wanted to ask if you have ever experienced something like this before. I can't send you a message via youtube but I'd like to share some info with you.
    Greetings Dario

The actual issue causing the damage with the camera is the self-timer was not in the correct charged position when an attempt at reassembly has been carried out.
The self-timer MUST be in the 'armed' state with and the shutter charged to enable correct reassembly. You have not got it in the correct state when you are reassembling it.
I could repair the damage and have this camera working in about an hour.

Do you know anything about fixing a stuck shutter button on a Miranda Sensomat? I was loading up a new film roll and as I was doing that the film advance lever became really loose, the shutter button would not press all the way down and the bottom button to rewind film would also not press All the way down. I thought it could have been a wire that snapped but I wanted to ask your opinion.

@@jackelinemunguia9166 Nice camera! It could be any number of things causing the issue. Without having the camera in hand to investigate it is difficult to say.
But, it will be repairable as it is a mechanical camera.

Hey, my self timer mechanism is locked up. I have it out of the camera. Do you have an idea of what I may be able to do to free up the mechanism? It’s the main gear that’s connected to the lever and clock spring that has jammed it seems.

Hey man I love your videos and have a very urgent question!
I got myself a Mamiya 180mm KL 4.5 and it has a lot of dust in it and one hair and I am not sure if this will make my image quality worse (contrast, sharpness) could I send you pictures of it somewhere and do you have a clue how to open that lens? Is it the same way like the mamiya z lenses?
    Greetings Samuel

On Reddit I already posted it with a picture but maybe you need more details. The most of the dust is in the inner elements also the hair. www.reddit.com/r/AnalogCommunity/comments/b11k6y/this_is_my_new_lens_with_back_light_is_this_too/?

Mike, thank you for the video. This was interesting. Do you still work on cameras? I've got a canon vi-l that's not advancing the film correctly. This is a video of what the problem looks like:
