    Currently I have found after the price inflations of these cameras that the best place to purchase one is a few different repainters such as Shueido from Taiwan. You get a very minty copy with fresh CLA and testing and a brand new and beautiful paint job from them for around $400-$600 for a Canon P. You cannot get anything close to that anywhere else now that film has come back into popularity.

    • @KeigoMoriyama
      @KeigoMoriyama  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shueido has some nice one and yes if you consider the repaint and cla it makes sense. Without you can find lots of cheap in the markets

    • @jp2503
      @jp2503 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeigoMoriyama cheap if you want ones that are beat up. But if you want mint or top mint or verified CLA with minimal wear from good sellers they will be the same or more than Shueido. I've even seen $999 for top mint black Canon P with some scratches on it. Double for new custom paint.

    • @KeigoMoriyama
      @KeigoMoriyama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KeigoMoriyama I don't know what quality you're looking at but I'm talking about prices from direct Japanese sellers. Even Japan camera Hunter will no longer source them because of the price to quality of them after people started picking them up like crazy. Kana camera is the one selling for $999 from Japan also.

    It’s my first vintage rangefinder and I thought it’s not good enough so I ended up getting other cameras.
    But after all the research, I realized the P is my true love. I pair it with the canon 50 1.8.
    The only thing that annoys me is the straps hook location. The camera tilted all the time on my back, lol.

    I much prefer the Canon VT Deluxe with the baseplate trigger, the changeable viewfinder for 35 and 50mm and the parallax correction on the shoe. The Canon P was an economy version of the previous V series, stripped down to cut cost. Nice camera, but I will take the VT Deluxe or for that matter, the VL any day of the week.

      @KeigoMoriyama  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @Otokichi786
    @Otokichi786 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Oy, that Canon P's self timer is wound up in "jam-the-camera" position! I looked at Leica M-series cameras for a while in the 1970's before concluding that my "bucket list" Leica M3 was too expensive. Canon P cameras were quite affordable back then, so I bought one via a "Shutterbug Ads" listing. Your "shutter is damaged"!? Mine looked like that when I got it, but it fired on all speeds without any problems. As I used it the metal shutter curtains got more wrinkled, but never failed. I bought a 28mm f/2.8 Canon and 105mm f/2.5 Nikkor in addition to the 50mm f/1.8 Canon, which came with the camera. These Leica screw mount lenses were easier to afford (and find filters) than the Leica M equivalents.

    • @john_murch
      @john_murch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jp2503 The 50 1.4 is legend. The 50 1.8 is also very good. The problem with the 1.8 is that it was an earlier production lens and it has a bad habit of having lens haze due to the poor coatings of the earlier models. However, I cleaned my 1.8 elements up and tested it against the 1.4 and the shots were almost identical. So, for the money if you can get a good copy of the 1.8, it's great value (it's also very tiny). But you need to check carefully that it's not hazed. If you have more budget though you can't go wrong with the 1.4. Hope that helps!

      The rangefinder will couple and function fine. However the camera viewfinder isn't wide enough to show the 25mm coverage, so you'd need a separate accessory finder.

    • @KeigoMoriyama
      @KeigoMoriyama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @randallstewart175
      @randallstewart175 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Assuming that a significant part of the film is feeding and shooting properly, but the film advance starts hanging or jamming thereafter, the problem is likely not thee camera, but the user. Look to your technique loading the film. If you load the film and do not start with a tight wind of film before you close the camera back, as the film advances it continues to wind loose, fills the chamber and jams the ability to advance the film further. Just try advancing a frame or two before you close up, making sure that the film is winding tightly on the take up spool.

      Before getting too involved with this meter, remember that it is a 60 year old selenium cell meter. I have two of them. The first died about 25 years ago. I haven't checked the other in 20 years. A few super high quality selenium meters still work, but the Canon meters probably so not quality. As of the last few years, repair does seem to be an option in the US, and the cost if available would be ridiculous.
