  • The 2001 - 2008 Honda Jazz (also known as the Honda Fit) is an incredibly versatile bargain of a car.
    Car on review is a 2002 Honda Jazz SE Sport 1.4 i-DSI.
    Known to some as the Mk1 and GD.

    I bought a 55 reg Jazz new and used it primarily for a commute to work (20 minute drive) and shopping. I never use motorways. Garaged every night and a mileage under 40,000 it is still in good nick and a dream to drive.
    My previous car was my late father's Hyundai Pony, so the upgrade to power steering, air-conditioning, electric windows & mirrors, and a CD player (only a part functioning cassette player before!) was a revelation. I bought it with rear parking sensors too. The storage is great. I used it for my mum's wheelchair in the back, and now my music gear for shanty gigs all fits in the boot out of sight.
    Not being knowledgeable about cars, my workmates had secretly researched alternatives for me when my old Hyundai was reaching the end of its practical life. Their recommendation proved perfect.

      I'm so sorry bud, MOT expired February last year on 137k+ miles and an advisory for corrosion the previous year. Not found on the vehicle enquiry service, only MOT history service, Meaning it's very likely been scrapped :( I'll give mine a little extra love in it's memory.

      I had the same car & colour too! And my license plate started with WN as well😅Was driving it for 7 years with little to no issues and then it died due to a blown head gasket. It also had all typical issues for this model but no rust and the bearing issue was not critical. And yesterday I sold it and had to watch it being towed away 😢

    It is a shame that this car was discontinued in the USA because people did not think it was big enough, even though it really was more than big enough for most people's needs. Bought a 2015 manual in late 2014, and love it. Carries up to five people, or lots of bulk with the seats down in several configurations. Rarely can it not transport what I need to move, and it gets great mileage, and is fun to drive as well.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By the looks of it that's a common thing in the US for the smaller cars not to sell well or be discontinued, like you say it's a shame as they're incredibly spacious for their size.

    I bought a yellow jazz just as cheap and cheerful car for my dad then when ulez kicked in I had to get rid of my old Merc and told my dad I'll take the jazz and he could get something else as he wasn't fond of the yellow. It's been nearly 5 years I have taken this jazz all over the u.k. up the Welsh hills and everything ,without any fault just basic maintenance and she keeps going. Then my dad missed it so much he bought one as well they are very practical. Also parts are pretty cheap, just recently done the clutch in mine planning to take it upto Scotland next.

    I moved the entire contents of my bungalow into a flat in my 1.2 2009 Jazz! Only reason I sold it was the rust got hold of it. The ride wasn’t high end, but it didn’t matter. It is a very good solid basic car (mine was low spec version)

  • @KeepCalmAndTravelOn
    @KeepCalmAndTravelOn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought my 2004 jazz 3 years ago for 950£. Currently 107000 miles on the clock. Here are some problems I had with it:
    - Rust is an issue, has to spend just under 1000£ to have it dealt with for my last MOT.
    - Rusty exhaust had fallen off and had to have a new one installed.
    - I recently had to fit it with a new clutch (500£).
    On the flip side, the car really is massive on the inside and small on the outside. I can (and did) move large pieces of furniture with it, and yet I can park it in the tightest of spots. I traveled thousands of miles with my whole family across the country, and never had any complaints when it comes to comfort (except for the noise). For my next car I'm strongly considering another Jazz.

    I was fortunate to have had both the 1.4 (1.33) and the 1.5 both MT mk1s at home back in Brazil. The 1.5 (105hp vtec ) was soooo much more nimble than the 1.4 that took it to another level of pleasure to drive... the suspension is slightly stiffer on that one. I even took it to Interlagos race track once and it was (in my hands lol) as quick as my E36 325i MT back then. I've just bought an '09 mk2 jazz here in the UK but it sucks to drive here so I didn't really buy it for the joy but for the practicality and low ongoing costs.

    I bought the next model, brand new, in 2010.. 1.4EX in Storm Silver with panoramic roof. It has the iVtec engine which i think is 100 bhp with variable valve timing and automatic cam lift etc.. Normally aspirated but as good as a turbo because of the iVtec system. I've still got it, nearly 14 years later.. It was built in Swindon England. It's been the most reliable car I've ever had and i haven't got any plans to buy anything newer. It has iridium spark plugs that last 75,000 miles. I use the best petrol E5 super unleaded and it seems really sporty.

    Absolutely great cars. Theres only two known issue with this model and thats keeping the rust at bay washing them often paying particular attention to the rear wheel arch lips and getting it undersealed will slow it down. The other issue is the input shaft bearing on the gearbox the civic from the same era suffered this fate too (mine did) its not massively expensive to repair I had mine rebuilt and refitted with a new clutch for £650 all in. If you can get past the image these Jazz's are great fun to drive.

    The CVT version has higher gearing than the manual. On a flat road it's doing less than 3000rpm at 70mph. Approx 25mph per 1000 revs. Of course with a full load or going up a hill the revs will rise. It's important to change the cvt fluid regularly too.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the UK because AC is not seen as so important, people don't tend to maintain it and on old cars it's no longer working. Unfortunately it wasn't working on this Jazz, and also it has a leak at the back at the top of the tailgate (common issue actually, I realise, so I could have mentioned it) so there was a lot of moisture in there. My wife has a mk2 Jazz and it is awesome. They are incredibly practical, economic and reliable cars. They are surprisingly fun to punt about and it being an iVTEC unit, if you wring it out there is a bit of performance there too.
    My only criticisms are it is noisy on a motorway; the engine spins at 3500 revs at 70mph. The interior plastics are brittle as well.

    Three days ago I bought a 2004 Jazz 1.4L SE Sport with 74000 miles on the clock for £2100. It going really well and smooth specially that it is automatic. No dashboard lights at all, but the brake parts needed a change (4x brake discs + pads + calipers) for £600. My only concern would be the timing chain as these Jazzes do not have a timing belt.

Got to keep eye on speed as its well capable of exceeding 70mph while towing. I've had it 3 years , its only needed brake pads, tyres. I do oil and filter change myself. Got mechanic to put on auxiliary belt at 120k miles as I think it was never done. Very reliable motor.

      @JJonCars  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It would depend what you want in a car really - the Jazz is more practical and cheaper to run. But the Accord is more luxurious and comfortable. As my one and only car I'd probably have the Accord, but as a second car I'd pick the Jazz.

    It is not 1.4 actually 1.3, I felt the engine needs a bit more power if have the CVT, the new Jazz after the GD1 is too wide for me as I live in the countryside. Rust is the biggest problem, should have spray rust protection under the car before purchasing the car.
