    Our BMW broke down last year on the ferry ramp on a visit to the UK (we live in Normandy) Clutch went. We were on holiday and needed a car. Bought one of these for just under a grand. Low mileage, tidy condition. Great little car. We didn't bother fixing the BMW (dreadful thing) and kept this. It is brilliant.

I would love to interview the first buyer of these puke inducing automotive outcasts to find out what was in their head when they ordered the bloody thing at the dealership. You know, the moment the sales guy shows you the leather swatches of trim colour and what? you think, Great just like the last time I wiped my arse, I'll take it... I love this show and it always surprises me of the low valuation of used cars in UK. In Canada, even a slightly dented and scraped 18 year old Honda would be worth much more than £500 ($837 CAD). And one like this with low mileage, service history and a high spec would certainly warrant that small body repair, as the seller could easily get their money back.

    • @dilan4123
      @dilan4123 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is liability which people don't account for, correct, but at the end of the day, alot of dealers offer what is below par offers for cars given in part exchange because they know sellers would rather it be done and dusted. Alot of the time you the offers you see dealers make are almost insulting unless the car is almost brand new. All in all, dealers cannot complain about issues/problems they come across as they more often than not are getting bargains which they make big profits on which more than make up for the odd lemon

Absolutely bullet proof. One common issue on the manual is a noisy input shaft gearbox bearing which the majority of them suffer with. It generates a whine but doesn't impede the operation of the gears or driving. Another problem is that the a large number of thees EP model civics are being written off due to their expensive catalytic converters being stolen. Alot of Honda's this age have become targets. I worked for Honda for years and sold those when they were brand new, (the colour is called Cosmic Grey BTW) the average age of a 5-door Civic Exec buyer back then was probably about 60 so they're generally well-maintained and if looked after mechanically bulletproof. I've never seen an Exec with that colour of interior in the flesh though as 99% of them were ordered black (because the grey one looks rank) so it's probably an ex-demo dumped on a dealer by Honda UK. My Mrs just passed her test on an Auto last year so I got her one in exactly the same age and colour, 40K miles, 1 owner with a full Honda Service History for £1550. It was a bit rough on bodywork like this one but it soon came up good with some G3 and a wheel refurb. It will probably outlast her if she wants to keep it.

    FYI this is the world’s first galvanised steel production car does not rust anywhere also they never burn oil as all Honda engines have patented piston/bore technology just post ww2 have jewel bearings and are the only massed produced engines that you can install NOS and gain immense power gains without problems. The ageist comments are typical of Europeans as in the rest of the world they are used extensively tuned proving and must be revved very high where the fun starts fantastic car.

    Been enjoying the others, but this appeals more to me because it's a civic!! Civic's are my second favourite car (the 2000-2005 ones especially) right after the Nissan Qashqai (cash cow) and toyota rav4! (superior car).
    Edit : Could you do more like cheap toyotas like corolla's and stuff haha (quick request)

    I bought one of these nearly two years ago as a second car/runabout for £1400. A silver 2003/53 pre facelift model in limited edition trim. 75k miles, full documented history and bodywork near mint for its age. I'm really fond of it and can't bring myself to sell it on to be honest. Super sweet engine and gearbox. It's a genuinely fun car to drive - much more so than it's straight laced looks would suggest. VTEC motors do enjoy a good kick. And of course they're we'll built and tightly engineered cars. They really are made to go the distance. To preserve its condition I decided to garage/SORN it over winter so it's not subject to salty roads. BTW oil burn should not be an issue at all on these D series motors unless they have been very neglected. Only thing I've had to do was the front calipers wipers and a light bulb!

    Owned one of these on a Y reg for 4 years. SE executive model, Paid £1300 quid for it at the time. Loved it, great car to drive, loads of space. It was the 1.6 vetec which run perfectly despite having moon miles. My ownership sadly ended after the driveshaft snapped (someone had welded it years before and had never been noticed) would own another one tomorrow. Thanks for uploading 😊

    EP's are awesome Cars with amazing handling, they do tend to rust badly from the inside of the backpanels, because water tends to get trapped in there, take off the speaker covers next too the backseat, shine a light in there and use a mirror, if there's rust/water in there it must be stopped, or it gets really bad.

    • @Liam-mt1fg
      @Liam-mt1fg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      EU (5 door) models don't have this issue as the speakers are located in the doors thankfully! But the rear arches do still go like EP's.

      @@Liam-mt1fg commented before watching the video, then realised it was the 5 door 🙄 we have 5 doors over here but they are rare, mostly it's a 3 door, hence why i jumped into conclusions early.

    The mk8 civic that looks like darth vader came out in 2005 on 55 plate.
    These early models had faults on them with the fuel flap and the handbrake.
    My father bought a new 2007 honda civic 1.8 petrol mk8 and still has it with just 34,000 miles on the clock and i have serviced it every year with mobil 1 fully synthetic oil from new.
    Nothing has gone wrong with it so far, even all the bulbs are still the original and working fine.
    The mk7 here will be equally as good, if not better im sure.

    Owned one and flogged many, not a moments bother had with any of them. Brilliant cheap used cars. Even the diesel (1.7 Isuzu) is a tough nut to crack, but the 1.6 petrol is all you need.
    The 2.0 Type-S 5dr was a bit of an unsung hero. Loads of go, decent on fuel, chain driven and plenty of space.

    Worth keeping in mind for your property business that once you VAT register, you're making less money until you're making about 102k. I'd artificially hold back until you can bridge that 85-102k gap in a single year. I'd also recommend doing Serviced Accommodation with some of your units, you're able to use sideways loss relief so if anything ever goes wonky with the car business, you could offset it because it's self-employed income. Loads of tax breaks for it too like Capital Allowances and being able to write off mortgage interest

    Really enjoy it when we see the whole thing, from purchase through renovation to sale. My wife's Honda Accord went for 229,000 miles without any major issues, and we sold it as a going concern after that. Honda's are great cars, as we all know. And you're right. It will go for another ten years with care.

    Love these vids with a happy theme running through it and a happy ending. Very uplifting to see a good car going on into the future. This is like venerating the hard work and effort of people that take care of their cars, clearly enjoy and rely on them and keep them going far longer than average. These owners and cars like the Honda should get awards for contributing to Global Warning reduction. 18 years is double the life of an average car that has been abused. Also this car will be a lot more reliable and cheap to run compared to a Range Rover, your profit would be about a months running I reckon. Imagine if this had been a Corsa. Well done, Matt.

    Both my partner and I have mk7 Civics, 1.6 SE auto. They're named Howard and Hilda! Hilda is the sane colour as this one.
    Nice and nippy, reliable, easy to drive and very smooth gear change. Only issue we have is that it gets terrible condensation.
    But apart from that, they've been great.
    They have a lot of rear legroom even with the front seats reclined. And the cabin in the front feels very spacious, and good headroom.
    We like it as it has a normal auto box- don't like the shape of the newer mk8 Civics and wary of the CVT box!

    My son's first car was a 2002 Civic 1.4 in silver, purchased in 2012. He kept it for 5 years before trading it in. It was a lovely car, reliable, pleasant to drive and ride in, bags of rear seat space. If I'd had the room I would have bought it off him when he got rid of it.
