    I know this is an older review so you may not see this but... there is a flat head screw right above the spring latch that you can loosen to adjust the height of the bowl. You can do this to bring the bowl up higher just enough so that the attachments are not hitting the bottom. I think this would help in your dough making experience as it would allow the dough hook to grab hold of the dough that was sticking to the bottom.

    Amy & Eric, thanks for reviewing the Professional 5 Plus. I decided to start baking in January, and this is the first stand mixer that I purchased. I got a great deal on it at Target, and have made lots of cakes with it, so far. I found your channel, around the same time, and immediately subscribed. Your positive feedback on the Artisan line inspired me to order one, about a month later. No regrets. Now, I feel equipped to do some serious "making." Thank you for the content that you and Eric make, together. If you are interested, the KitchenAid KFEW6L Flex-edge Beater will fit your Pro 5 Plus, as well as most versions of the Pro 600.

      Tomorrow I'm going to buy this mixer. Canadian tire has a very good promotion 45% off for KitchenAid professional 5™ plus series stand mixer. But I was not sure if Flex-edge Beater will fit this particular model. I am glad that it does. If you can tell me where I can buy it.
      I already searched but the offers were for Artisans and others, not for the KitchenAid® Professional 5™ Plus Series 5 Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer. I also would prefer stainless steel, not coated flat beater, and coated dough hook. This particular model has only stainless steel wire whip and stainless steel bowl.
      This will be my first KitchenAid mixer.
      Thank you for the info.

      Thank you for your comment. I am hesitating to get the Pro 5 Plus because people complain about the loud noise, the lack of adjustment for the bowl and the difficulty to put the bowl on the arms. What do you think about that?

    Good review. Just got one, and as a bread maker gotta say this is not for single loaves. If one knows that going into it -- well -- no problem. Single loaf, occasional bread makers do not need the Pro 5 Plus. Multiple loafs are great with this. (Use weight, not volume when making bread.)

    Hi Amy & Eric, thanks for another terrific, very thorough review. The mixer seemed to perform well, even with the pizza dough, but as you've said, it might not stand up to heavier doughs with different wheat. The one thing I really don't like about it is the sound of the motor, that high-pitched, squealing, whining sound, especially when it is starting to struggle a bit.

    • @cnnw3929
      @cnnw3929 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That high-pitched whine is actually typical of a Pro 5 Plus. And yes, it is OK for bread flour and even whole wheat, as long as it is properly hydrated before the actual kneading takes place. Yet, its price point dictates that KitchenAid has to cut some corners if they want to keep their lower-cost market share. I would consider the Pro 5 Plus over the Pro HD, even if it may cost more. There are simply more attachments available for the Pro 5 Plus. For example: The wide bowl can accommodate the stainless steel wire whip, dough hook, and beater from a Commercial 8. The Pro HD can't, because of the narrower bowl.

    The bowl size is the reason for the splatter, which doesn’t seem to be a problem. The beater gets more freedom to rotate because it’s a wider bowl. I’m glad your doing this.
    The motor sounds normal to me. I listen to saws, so this mixer sounds smooth to me. It is helpful in deciding which mixer I want.
    Those beaters cover the area of the bowl. And less scraping the sides. By the way you do a great job.

    This really was great! It really helped me make my decision on which KitchenAid stand mixer to buy; your review includes actual use compared to most other reviews (those are mostly just fancy unboxing videos. The only thing (a little) lacking was it would have been nice to know the quantities with the cream since I'm really worried about it being able to reach small batches, like with a few eggs. Showing the scraping action was super helpful too, as well as showing the spiral hook!

      You have to adjust the bowl height with a flathead screwdriver on the back part of the mixer slightly above where the bowl rest. Put a dime in the bowl and run the paddle attachment on speeds 1-3 and see if the dime moves half an itch. That’s how you get the paddle to reach the bottom.

    I’ve had this mixed for 3 years this Christmas (Santa got a good deal at Best Buy on Black Friday and I found it under the tree). I love it! It’s my first ever stand mixer so I have no reference. Everyone laughed because I’m “not a cook” but backing is so much easier with this. We have done yummy cookies, dog treats, dough, lots of mashed potatoes and more. I wanted the beater paddle and the pour shield. The paddle I think was a knock off and ended up squeaking and coming apart. It also hit the pour shield all of the time. My son replaced it for my birthday with a 6 qt paddle and it works great! I can finally use the pour shield and no squeaking. I was worried that I would regret not getting the 600 but this goes what we need and fits easily under the cabinet. No regrets at all. We love love love the spiralizer attachment. If you don’t have a reason to need to 600 you will not regret this especially when you can get it for $200.

      The 600 Series of KitchenAid mixers have louder motors than other models higher or lower in capacity. I have one KitchenAid with a coated beater with one worn spot on it. I use the metro blade beater with that mixer now unless I am adding chopped nuts or chocolate chips to the mix. I fear those chunky ingredients to wear the edge of the silicone of the Metro-blade.

    Yours sounds almost like the one I gave to my father. That mixer was 10 years old, and I donated it just after I installed a new metal transmission housing. I actually feel it did better at kneading bread dough than the KSM5 I gave to my mother. It was actually stronger, in my opinion. But, as you said, it's not perfect. My Commercial 8 is better at yeast dough, and it can handle any other task I would give. I've had my Commercial 8 for at least a couple years so far, maybe more. It has never let me down. The Pro 5 Plus is a good option for a beginner, as it can do all things even though it won't exactly master the task. As for my father and step mother, I feel that it is the perfect fit for them. They never make yeast breads, only quick breads, cakes, and maybe some cookies if that fancies them. And their Pro 5 Plus has been going strong for at least 4 years, and counting. Their feedback indicates that it continues to be a strong-running machine, and helps considerably with my step mother's arthritis. :)

    Totally disagree about being a breadmaking powerhouse. I use it for single loaves routinely and you just have to know how to nurse the dough to get a decent doughball. All of my breads are sourdough based, and as you watch the kneading, you need to monitor the progress and add small amounts of water or flour as appropriate. My recipes are not "set it and forget it," so I put some care into the kneading process. IMHO, the way she mixed the ingredients may be the culprit.

    Did both the pink and blue get about the same hot after use? Or did one get hotter?

      This one got a bit warm, but nothing to be concerned. The HD was OK as well, but just happened to notice it was warm. I'd say the HD probably got warmer. Is that any indication of issues? We liked this one because the whip and paddle did a good job. I think that deeper bowl on the HD was a problem. We did adjust the paddle on this (using a dime test). Amy adjusted the mixer again for the whip dough hook. We initially had issues. I hand washed the bowl. We did two different recipes (all purpose flour and then bread flour). The dough discolored and would not hydrate properly. Even then Hobart could not save the doughs. Almost got a fail. We then scrubbed with Bar Keepers Friend as we usually do and ran through the dishwasher. Much better. We did two loaf recipe because A. we're out of bread and B. we wanted to give this guy the benefit of doubt.

    Is this better than the classic or artisan?? I have the choice to get this mixer or the regular classic 4.5 quart or artisan with both 3 and 5 quart bowls. I don't really make bread so mainly using for cookies, cakes, pizza dough occasionally, mostly treats though. And probably more likely to do smaller average size batches but would like the option to dk bigger batches once in a while without buying another mixer obviously.

      Hi, I have the Artisan Tilt Head and make bread in it using standard flour and single recipe, one thing I noticed is the mixer tends to clunk up and down on the counter, due to the dough being kneaded. I love it for everything else, though.

    I just picked mine up today. When I logged on to do the warranty, I was offered a monthly appliance care plan. I can’t find anything on the internet about this plan. It’s $2.99 per month and it covers all repairs with no deductible. Wondering if this is worth it? I did buy a 3 yr extended warranty when I purchased the device but if I knew about the monthly plan, I would have gotten that. But again, I’m researching it and can’t find any info on it. Any insight?

    Hi!! How are you? I like your videos, I placed the order this week for this mixer 5 pro plus kitchen aid, at Sam’s club, and I got for the price $359.00, Do you think is too expensive? or the price is good? Because I read many comments they brought it for $229.00 and now is more expensive, I don’t know if a made a good decision, Thank you , GOD BLESS YOU.

    Thanks for doing a complete review and actually using the mixer. In another review the person basically took it out of the box and ran it for like 30 seconds with the beater and no ingredients. Useless. The new version comes with a 3-quart bowl in addition to the 5 quart bowl. Do you think that would help it perform better on small bread batches?

    • @AmyLearnsToCook
      @AmyLearnsToCook  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi JookyDal! The 3 quart bowl with combi whisk is not made for bread. The bowl only comes with a small whisk attachment. The regular attachments only work with the larger bowl. The bowl is mainly for whipping cream and frostings especially if you used the main bowl for the batter. This way you can continue working with the hassle of waahing the bowl.

I have used the artisan for mostly baking cakes, cupcakes, and cookies but some cookie doughs would cause the mixer to rock. Also, I am really surprised this (mine is KV25G0X model) has been around this long. I thought with the serious lack of accessories on Amazon and KitchenAid that it must have been brand new. It only came with the 3 paddles not even a manual/cookbook with examples of what paddle type to use, etc. So I am wondering what the "Plus" is supposed to mean?? Should be barebones!

    • @AmyLearnsToCook
