My favourite is my "classic" tilt head, because that was a present from my late wife and using it always brings up memories. Love your videos. There is one thing that puzzles me a little - you say that you see rarely damage to the metal gears. I have fixed a lot less of the things than you have (dozens rather than thousands), but at least a third of them had gear damage (some of them even with the nylon gear intact), usually on the "beveled" upper part of the main gear (I think this what drives the attachment gear). This was a great video and seems like you know these mixers very well. One point I disagree with however is capacity between the Artisan and k5ss. Although the bowls are the same size; the attachments for the k5 are larger and come up higher in the bowl therefore give approximately 1 quart more "usable capacity" than the Artisan. I purchased my k-5ss new in 1982, have used it at least several times a week ever since for cakes, icings, cookies, breads, meatball and meatloaf mix, mashed potatoes etc. I also have the meat grinder and slicer shredder attachments which also get used regularly. Everything has held up beautifully! Only service it has ever received were a new worm gear and carbon brushes in 2003.

One thing you missed, about height preference. When measuring cabinet height, be aware of how much room is needed for when you have to tilt the head back.
I recently moved up to the 7qt Pro and I love it. Mine has the quiet DC motor. I make a lot of pizza and bake bread 3 or 4 times per week and it can handle a large quantity of dough fo kneading.
Have you ever worked on a Kenmore Elite stand mixer? Both the kitchenaid and the Kenmore Are made by Whirlpool kitchenaid and many of the parts are interchangeable.
Thank you for making this video! It totally helped me decide which range to get after my Artsian broke down - the worm gear, classic example - gave way after making multiple batches of Cinnamon Rolls and a 7 year run! Will be moving to the professional series as I do have a large family of 10.
With your big family seriously look at the 7, and 8qt. models with the DC motors. Also look at the Bosch, and Nutrimill bowl drive mixers. They handle large bread dough batches easily.
Great video. Biggest mixer mistake I ever made was getting rid of my Hobart made tilt head KA mixer and "upgrading" it to a heavy duty bowl lift model as I was interested in making breads. Motor burned out just after 12 months. I have been the proud owner of an Ankarsrum mixer for 6 years now and have never had a minutes problem with making bread doughs. Even kneading for 20 min at a time. That being said, I have recently purchased a new tilt head KA mixer for small jobs where cold butter needs to be creamed etc as the Ankarsrum is not the best choice and specifically states to NOT use cold butter. I just ordered a couple of your exclusive add-ons for the new KA on your website.
Best channel for Kitchenaid Mixer repair. I have a question. If all the internals of the tilt head mixers are the same, why the different wattages? Is it for marketing?
Hello Mr. Mixer! Thank you very much for all the information you give us in your videos. I'm thinking about buying the KSM8990 commercial mixer, but I'm really undecided, I understand that the gears/transmission are metal and it's coupled to a DC motor. But I was impressed by the small diameter of the motor shaft and the gear attached to it. My question is, is the mixer really for commercial use? I intend to use it for soft doughs (cakes, brownies, cookies, creams, etc.) and rarely for heavy doughs (bread, pizza, donuts, etc.).
Yea that's a super solid unit for your intended use. I wouldn't use it to do heavy doughs all day but for your purpose it would be great! consider purchasing with us, it will come with all of our upgrades and will be warrantied. We have some nice ones available currently! Send over an email mrmixer316@gmail.com!
Excellent video. I bought the Classic Plus about 2 months ago and found it couldn't handle pizza dough with a spiral dough hook. The one that comes with the machine is a "J" hook which is useless! I just jumped up to a 5.5Q Lift stand machine. In the future I will buy everything from you and have you folks do all my maintenance and repairs. Great channel!

I brought my older mixers back to life, because of your videos, thank you! I also (thanks to you) change the grease annually, or on any new mixer I purchase. Do you have a video on greasing the ksm70sk? I know replacing single parts is a no-go on these models, but can they be greased like any other Kitchenaid mixer?
Just placed an order for some upgrades for a new Classic we just got. I don't see anywhere on the box or mixer that it is a + but it is 275 watts. I must say your shipping costs were very reasonable. Can't wait to get them and install them. I see they make a KFE5T Flex Edge Beater Attachment For 5-qt. Tilt-Head Stand Mixers. I was wondering what you thought about them. Do they work good to keep from having to stop and scrape the bowl when mixing.
I recommend the beater blade THM it's 100% the best you can get, we offer them on our website mrmixer.store. If you would like one, we can arrange an invoice so that we can just include it with your other items!
I clicked on this video thinking it was about what 'era' Kitchaid Mixer was the best. I recently picked up a Hobart era mixer. I re-greased & replaced all the cardboard gaskets. I was kind of surprised when I took it apart because all the gears and drives looked in good shape. I did wonder if anyone knows if the worm gears were ever made from steal because when I took mine apart the whole worm gear looked like it was metal.
There is also the deluxe tilthead that I've seen at Walmart that is really just an Ultra Power that doesn't say Ultra Power on it. They didn't even bother to write Deluxe on the band it's just blank or that would normally be. The quar bowl on the Tilthead can be useful for certain type of cakes where the batter expands like angel cake just gives you a little more room to work with.
@@MrMixer316 I’m not sure what my dishes will be but definitely will be using some heavier doughs. I’m about to start culinary school and I want something that I can not only practice with at home, but also potentially use after school to bake things to sell from home. So I’ll definitely be using my mixer more than the average person, but prob not in need of the full professional one. If I do go with kitchen aid, I’m looking at that pro 6 model. I haven’t even began to look at Bosch though. I’ll have to look into those too. Ty for taking the time to explain the different tools, it really helps to make an informed decision for sure!
I burned out 2 mixers (not Kitchen Aid) making gingerbread cookie dough. Then the wife brought home a brand new K5SS. I said, "Why on earth did you buy the worlds most expensive mixer"? Well I made gingerbread dough with it, awesome! Now 25, or more, years later...am I ever glad she brought it home. Lots of pasta made with rollers and pasta press attachments. I'm certain it paid for itself about 20 years ago. She paid $169 CDN at Sears.
I have been following you on Tiktok for a while now and love the information you share. Hopefully we will be updating our classic and doing some maintenance soon.
I am the proud owner of a 1960s K5-A that is still going strong. I am curious though about the attachments, would the newly made ones fit that machine with just how old it is.
The new touch point 7qt machines have a 500watt ac motor. It's similar in design to the 1.3hp DC motor however it is not the same. The professional 600 also had an AC motor, however the new motor and transmission are more akin the the DC style.
I love this video thanks :) Also I think the wormgear is actually the long thin boi. which one is the KSM70 similar to?! their models are so confusing.... a mechanical failsafe like that is a bit eh in this day and age. it's sure cheaper but like there can be a torque control/monitor built-in
Looking at a Pro KSM60SECXER 6quart pro since my older heavy duty 5 qt died. My largest recipe is bread (6cupsflour) not sure if I should replace gears/whatever..or just get a larger capacity...pro 6quart vs commercial.
Your comment about cabinet height being a consideration on a tilt head vs the bowl lift is a bit misleading. In order to insert or remove attachments on a tilt head... you have to literally tilt the head up... which would then put it taller than the bowl lift version. So the under counter height would just pertain to counter storage and not an operational issue... True?
This is true, generally speaking though counter tops are wider than cabinets and you generally slide the mixer further out than the cabinets extend so it isn't an issue I suppose this may not be the case for everyone though!
Hey, awesome Video! Can you explain where the beater-height screw is located in the heavy duty 5kpm5) machine? I have owned this machine for quite a while now and just cannot find it!
They don't all have one, if there is one, it's located running perpendicular the the machine right where the very center of the arms come up and make contact with the lower housing as you lift them into the upward position. It would be one tiny screw.
I have a 600 professional I was wondering why my bowl height adjustment screw will not turn. I bought it used. So I don't know what was done to it . Thank you
Thank you so much for your review. Would you recommend this one? I would appreciate your response. Kenmore Elite Heavy-Duty 6 Qt Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer, 600 Watts, with Flat Beater, Wire Whisk, Dough Hook, Stainless Steel Bowls, LED Light, Digital Countdown Timer, Metallic Grey
Ankarsrum is great but fails at incorporating cold butter into dough. It also has many more parts to swap out and clean, and the beater system is not as straightforward as KitchenAid for making cake batter or cookie dough. And the plastic mixing bowl isn't recommended to make things like Swiss meringue. Ankarsrum can definitely handle bread dough more easily. They both have pros and cons but neither is perfect.
@@kappadappa you can get a metal mixing bowl. For me, and I make a lot of shokupan, the cold butter isn’t an issue. I either take it out in the morning or put it in a my oven 9n proof for a few minutes. There are only two parts plus the bowl to clean and it’s way easier than the KA I have. The beater system is straightforward and I haven’t had any issues with it. Whips for frothy things like egg whites, etc, and the beaters for the rest. I’ve had KA mixers for 45+ years, including the top end Professional model. I wish I’d changed to the Ank sooner. The only thing I’m saving my old KA for is I have a Mockmill grinder attachment to make my own flour and I don’t want to have to buy a standalone one to replace it. I also love not worrying about what didn’t get mixed in properly at the bottom of the bowl. Never happens with the Ank. Also no spraying of flour when it’s added to the mixture.
@@carolez8582 I make shokupan often too, but that's not cold butter. Cold butter would be more like pie dough, which the Ankarsrum can't do. And sure, you can get a metal bowl but that's an additional cost/part. Like I said, they're both great, and both have plusses and minuses. When I was replacing my 21 year old KitchenAid I did a ton of research and seriously considered the Ankarsrum. But since I make far more pastry/meringue/genoise than heavy bread dough the KitchenAid Proline 7 made more sense for me. If I mainly made bread then I would have gone with the Ankarsrum. Enjoy!
@@McMaxW they aren't bad, smaller capacity but that encourages people not to overlaid them whcib is good. Strong motor, I don't see many of them in my area as people Tend to opt for the larger sizes. It hasn't been announced but I've heard reports that they will be discontinued in 2026
Thanks for the great comparison and explicit details. Sorry but here in Europe we do'nt use quarts, only Liter but this is'nt saying what maschine type it is exactly. I looked at the technical differenties between 5ksm7580, heavy duty and the professional- same PS (1,3), all have DC Motor, same hight, same weight, can't see a real diffents. ? I thought the biggest Artisan- because the price in EU is really heavy! will be right for my heavy sourbread- and gingerbread doughs up to 1kg or 2,5kg. The Professional costs here over 1.298€, the biggest Artisan also 1.198€ but some are on sale for (only)😅799€- big differents for me. Thanks for this informative videos!
Hello, I have seen your videos and I see that you know about these machines, let's see if you can help me, I have an artisan but after changing the plastic pinion, it has no power to beat bread dough, the strange thing is that it works perfectly in empty but after having dough it becomes weak
This video was very very very informative, but I do have a couple of questions I'm thinking about buying them with probably with most of the attachments so what would you recommend or does it matter or are they all the same, I'm planning on making a lot of butter and ice cream, I'm very mechanically inclined so it looks like these machines are easy to service, so can I order parts from you and fixing myself?
We do not but it's technically possible! It's just easier to replace unfortunately. We spec and manufacture all of our own springs and washers, we have two options, the quick Install or the traditional install that requires disassembly.

Yeah I’ll be getting this
Thank you!! This was exactly the information that I was looking for in deciding which mixer to purchase.
In short, yes.
Hello Mr.
Awesome so glad your back!!
I've finally got to a point where I can make some videos, I had to hire employees and expand my shop cause yall keep me too busy 😅
Thanks, from a man who is deciding which to buy. Most of these reviews focus on the use of the machine and not how its built.
I appreciate you and look forward to being of service!!
I have a kitchen Aid Profession I have had it for over 35years and have recently purchased an Artisan .By the way I use them both I make I make a lot of bread. I am in Canada and If anything
go wrong with any of them I hope I can find someone like you to service them.
Wow, I just discovered you a few days ago and saw you have been missing for 11 months and was sad. I'm glad you're back (you helped me repair my Professional 600)
Happy to help, I would like to start getting more stuff uploaded here. I'm mostly on tiktok as shirt format is easier. This video took me a day and a half to film and edit 😅
@MrMixer316 A lot of folk@ also do the TH-cam shorts, who use tiktok, so maybe that as well? TH-cam shorts really exploded the past year I'd say.
@@ramyahoo that's the other pain, 1minute isn't quite long enough for most of my stuff and that's the limit on YT shorts
@@MrMixer316 Oh, right, I didn't consider that! YT needs to make an exception for you! 😆
@@ramyahoo that and I have like 530k followers on tiktok so I kinda have to lean into that more, I'd like to be able to do both

Zack, I might be interested in a K5SS model if you have them.
Not now, but eventually, I’ll be ready to buy one from you.
@@CShannon1991 yes we make sure to have them in stock at all times, it's such a reliable model! They are available on our website mrmixer.store under the mixer tab
Hi I have a kitchenaid mixer it's making a noise I Bin watch you and I can fix it thx
@@MrMixer316 Thanks but I'll order it later maybe with some other items you have.
It's not made a of metal, it's a common misconception because it is black/Greyish and looks like metal. It's actually nylon.
I’m torn between going with a kitchen aid or a wolf mixer. I like wolf more as a brand but kitchenaides are just so well made and versatile.
I'm about to start carrying Bosch which is also really good! Especially if you do a lot of heavy dough
I have the k5ss lift stand. I like it very much.😊
Hola! Thank you for all they info. How much, and how I can get the spacer for my mixer, so the wire don't touch the bottom of the bowl?
@@carmenpaez678 it's available on our website mrmixer.store
Very educational. Amazing video. 💯🥳
Thank you! It's a pleasure to be of service!
@@MrMixer316 I would like to see what's you're opinions on the Ankarsrum Mixer are on a video review if you get the chance.
K5ss is an amazing model
I have been following you on Tiktok for a while now and love the information you share. Hopefully we will be updating our classic and doing some maintenance soon.
It's a pleasure to have you over here on youtube! I appreciate you and we are here if you need us!
Loooved your review and show the intern details. What a curse, Thx a lot !!!
This video was very informative-thank you! Where can I find a comparison oh wattage per model?
I am the proud owner of a 1960s K5-A that is still going strong. I am curious though about the attachments, would the newly made ones fit that machine with just how old it is.
yes
Get a Hobart lite commercial (HMM10) for home - cost of 3 pro 600 units tho
Wish you'd make a copper bowl. Wish the 4.5 and 5 had water jacket also
Also, the 7 supposedly has a DC motor carried over from the pro6. Have you opened a new "touch point" 7 to confirm?
The new touch point 7qt machines have a 500watt ac motor. It's similar in design to the 1.3hp DC motor however it is not the same. The professional 600 also had an AC motor, however the new motor and transmission are more akin the the DC style.
I love this video thanks :)
Also I think the wormgear is actually the long thin boi.
which one is the KSM70 similar to?! their models are so confusing....
a mechanical failsafe like that is a bit eh in this day and age. it's sure cheaper but like there can be a torque control/monitor built-in
I would love to paint my black kenmore elite stand mixer the blue Willow by kitchenaid color.
Looking at a Pro KSM60SECXER 6quart pro since my older heavy duty 5 qt died. My largest recipe is bread (6cupsflour) not sure if I should replace gears/whatever..or just get a larger capacity...pro 6quart vs commercial.
Mine is from around 2008 says commercial on it nothing else. It's a bowl lift model. What can you tell me about that?
What would you say is better, the 5.5 quart KSM55 or the Professional 5 Plus 5 quart?
Excellent video! Thank you Pedro Pascal!👍
😂😂Sure thing!
i hope you can do a tear down of the new models so we can see what changes they made.
I have one on my table right now, I will be making videos on them in the near future
@MrMixer316, could please share your findings regarding the pro line 7 quart and the new redesigned 7 quart ones?
So the order is:
Classic
Artisan
K5ss
Pro600
Proline
How about the commercial one?
Can you do a review on the Mini Artisan. Thx!
What’s your thoughts about 6.6L Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer KSM70 and does it have DC motor?
Your comment about cabinet height being a consideration on a tilt head vs the bowl lift is a bit misleading. In order to insert or remove attachments on a tilt head... you have to literally tilt the head up... which would then put it taller than the bowl lift version. So the under counter height would just pertain to counter storage and not an operational issue... True?
This is true, generally speaking though counter tops are wider than cabinets and you generally slide the mixer further out than the cabinets extend so it isn't an issue I suppose this may not be the case for everyone though!
I have a K4SS and a KSM50P. Trying to decide which to keep. The K4 was made by Hobart. Your opinion?
They're essentially the same machine, so I'd go with Hobart with the 5qt bowl on the KSM50 personally 👍
Good Evening, Question, what is the difference between the 8 quarts Model KSMC895 vs Model KSM8990 ?
Thanks for the channel. I hope I never need it but I know who to call if I do.
I appreciate you!
Excellent video, great breakdown. Thank you for this!!!
So the Mini will fit ALL (regular) Kitchenaid accessories?
This is the video I was looking for. All these other 'comparison' videos out there don't look inside the machines, which is all that matters.
I have a 600 professional I was wondering why my bowl height adjustment screw will not turn. I bought it used. So I don't know what was done to it . Thank you
Where can I buy that rubber part you invented in Canada ?Thanks!
How about which one is best for grinding meat?
Great video.. still torn but note I know the differences
Please, help to choose Artisan 175 or 185?
What are the differences?
Great video, it made it so easy to service. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Loved your video. Just bought the artisan model for bread making. I want to mix enough dough for 2 loaves of bread. Will the Artisan handle that?
It should be able to! Hope it turns out good :D
What's your opinion on the limited edition copper clad mixer?
The best home mixer is an Ankarsrum. Solves all the issues of the KA.
Enjoy!
Great video. Although I didn’t see mine. The 400 w accolade tilt model 5qt. I don’t think they make them anymore. Wonder why?
You nefer review the Artisan Mini 3.5qt. Its a DC motor love to hear your thoughts about it.
I don't see them that often but they are nice little machines.
Do you have a paddle attachment with the rubber for a KSM50?
Any thoughts on the Mini model with DC motor?
@@McMaxW they aren't bad, smaller capacity but that encourages people not to overlaid them whcib is good. Strong motor, I don't see many of them in my area as people Tend to opt for the larger sizes. It hasn't been announced but I've heard reports that they will be discontinued in 2026
Thanks for the great comparison and explicit details. I leave in Europe and have to choose between 5KSM70JPXEER or 5KSM70SHXEER, I've looked at the specs and the motor seems to be the same - 375 Watt for both.
Why is then the ...70JP....version a Heavy Duty, what are the differences excepting the accesories which are better (stainless steel) on the ...70SH... version ?
Thank You.
Great video; all of my questions were answered. Thank you.
You didn't mention the professional 6500 and 6000?
Hi! Can you please show me what maschine the Artisan 5ksm7580 is? I ordered this one, it has stainless steel attachements and a 6,9L bowl.
Which is the best choice, K5SS , professional 5 plus or professional HD?
Hello, I have seen your videos and I see that you know about these machines, let's see if you can help me, I have an artisan but after changing the plastic pinion, it has no power to beat bread dough, the strange thing is that it works perfectly in empty but after having dough it becomes weak
From catching Pablo Escobar to review mixers on TH-cam ….. great job Pascal !
Do you guys pin the shaft of the pro 600? Why or why not?
Also which model is the spring and washer sourced from for use on the Pro 600?
We do not but it's technically possible! It's just easier to replace unfortunately. We spec and manufacture all of our own springs and washers, we have two options, the quick Install or the traditional install that requires disassembly.
Would you mind doing a tear down video for the ksm55
I could but the ksm55 doesnt have parts available for resale yet since it's so new!
That's fine, just really wanted your opinion and to see inside. Would you recommend the 600 over the 55. Thank you
I found a Hobart Solid State lift mixer on Offerup for 60 bucks. Is it worth it? the color is beige like if that helps. I dont know what exact model, but it does have those 4 bolts on the base of the head/neck.
