My Brother and I went with him on our summers growing up. Earned money etc. I miss that truck. He had bunk beds, TV/VCR/DVD combo, no fridge but had his coolmaster cooler. He had a dove airbrushed on the back of the cab that said "Freebird" in memory of his Brother (passed from HIV in the 80's, when I was very very young). Amazing rig you got there man. Take care....

    Decent, honest job. My father hated being put in the office by a big usa co. That acquired the company he worked for for years. He quit a high paying position and went back to driving for a true Aussie company again until he got too old.

    We had regular drivers throughout the years of our business. My Dad, brother, and I would take our drivers out to dinner (employees were invited also) It was a blast. We took them in as a family and got to meet their families through the 30-plus years. They knew if they needed anything we were there. All of our drivers carried. God bless them and all the other drivers out there.

    I drove otr from 1988 to 2015. Trucking has definitely changed since I started. There was a lot more truckers working together for the greater good, helping each other. Now these days it's more like people keeping to themselves and to each there own which make it more difficult tbh. Of course it makes it more difficult to drive the way I used to now with those electronic logs and such.

    I live in rural England and am a disabled woman. Some years ago, I was woken up at 4 am to the sound of loud banging on my door and a girl screaming for help. Of course I opened the door. I am very pleased I did, because it turned out to be my neighbours 18 year old daughter who had been home alone.
    Poor girl was badly beaten up by her stalker EX and ripped to shreds by fighting through brambles to escape to my cottage. I heard scrambling in the brambles close by, so yanked her in, slammed the door whilst screaming that I had called the Police. (Obviously I hadn't had the chance to at that point).
    I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't let her in as her Ex was armed with a knife and high as a kite. I was terrified but sometimes you have to take risks to help someone in desperate need. Truthfully if I hadn't heard her scream in terror, I probably wouldn't have opened the door but immediately called the Police.
    Are things so different in the USA?

    • @MrDarkx1000
      @MrDarkx1000 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes and no. Firearms are very prevalent and there are many stories of people being setup to be robbed (or worse) by people who have a woman bait their trap by calling for help. Though, far less common, I’ve heard of similar situations happening in the UK and Western Europe.

    • @Plumplum888
      @Plumplum888 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrDarkx1000 Luckily Guns are not a factor in most of the UK's crimes because of the penanties. Truthfully, for better or worse - if I hear someone appearing to scream for help, I will always try to help them without unduly putting myself in danger. I like to think that most British people think this way.

    The hardest part of being a truck driver is parking. I actually enjoy camping out in my truck. I had a mini fridge, microwave, wifi, laptop, tv, xbox, and electric stove. So I had everything I needed to camp out for the night or even multiple nights if I had to reset. The second thing I hate is not having a bathroom on the truck. I can pull over the side and use a bottle when I have to pee really bad. But if you have to poop really bad, you have to find parking, and it is not like you can quickly park anywhere and run into a store to use the restroom. In the end, you must carry a bucket with a trash bag for emergencies.
