    Nicholas Hallowell:
    "Ok, so I have this same model and maybe I missed it in your video, but the metal plate that the router attaches to is sunk in about 1/8 of an inch. I have not been able to see a way to adjust this. Yours does not seem to have that. Is this something you can adjust or did I just get one with a flaw in it?"
    There are screws to tighten down the plate, but there are leveler screws beneath those for the height.

    Be advised that if you use a 1617 in a table it will eventually stop working. You router is Not broken! The switch has accumulated wood dust that is preventing the router from working until you use a strong vacuum to clear the dust from the switch.

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wanted to buy the Kreg table top system. However, once you add the remote switch, and then add another $50 for the pre-cut Bosch plate, it became a lot more expensive. Yes, it came with a blank plate that you could drill out yourself, but I wanted something precise. I don't use the router table enough to justify have spending an extra $150. Plus, the Bosch had a storage place underneath where I place the essentials.

    Just bought the same router and table - I have been woodworking for years but never had the money to really get behind a router and table. Finally took the plunge and am looking at everything I can before I cut my first board. You posting your video on here helped out a lot, so thank you for taking the time to do it. I am trying to create window frames for my stained glass so it looks like part of the paneling I put up, but it is all red oak (I fondly refer to that wood as the grizzly bear of wood types). The only critique/question that I am walking away with still unanswered is how did you change out the bit, and if you have any suggestions on what type of bit to make a simple 1/2 inch track in the middle of wood. Mario, thanks again for posting

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed the center plastic disc on top. Raise the router all the way to the top. One wrench from under the table and the other from the top. As far as router bits go, a rabbiting bit send like what you are looking for. They have different styles like straight, speak, etc., I believe spirals are for plunge type cuts and straight can be used for dado style. The latter I would have to double check though. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @freddyflynn1848
      @freddyflynn1848 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I half way routed my first board but the router plate is sitting 1/16 of an inch too low so the wood was catching and stopping the board. Did you run into this and if so what did you do to fix it. Don't know if I screwed up or over tightened, promise I will stop bugging you just curious if you ran into this same problem
      Again, thank you

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries.
      In a perfect world, the router plate would be perfectly level with the table, but not likely to happen.
      I think I mentioned it in the video, but after you adjust the height, tightening the screws will lower the plate slightly, so you have to set the plate higher initially so when you tighten the plate, it levels out.
      Also, you don't need to sock down those router plate screws, just tight enough to secure the plate.
      The best way to do it so it works is that the in-feed side of the plate should be level, or just a hair lower than the table. On the out-feed side, the plate should be level or a hair higher than the table.
      This way the work piece does not snag going in or coming out.
      Does this make sense?

    Please read to the end, for pictures...
    I couldn't stand the way the fence locked down, so I bought some T-Track and added it to the table. I used two pieces of 4 3/4" long T-Track and routed slots in the back of the table that start 2" from the edge. I made a frame that I clamped down to the router to use as a guide for routing both sides exactly where I wanted them and to keep the tracks parallel. I put the tracks 2" from the edge for two reasons... Firstly, to leave enough space so the big plastic star wheels for the fence hold downs didn't get in the way of the plastic star wheels that allow you to set the opening in the fence... Secondly, I wanted as much space between the hold downs as possible to make it easier to adjust. Worked out perfectly... It also allows you to use wider stock, as the fence goes back 2" further than stock... Pictures, here...

    Shouldn't you be using the horizontal laying feather board directly in front of the routing bit to prevent pushout?

    • @fakiirification
      @fakiirification 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, at least one featherboard should be directly inline with the bit. although with wide pieces its not a huge issue. its more a big deal when you are routing something thinner, like putting a profile on a small piece for trim. He also had the featherboards set too tight in this clip, it should not require too much force to push the piece through the featherboards. too much force makes it possible to slip, which is a spinning blade hazard.

      OK, all put together and for the $ I'd have to say...NOT BAD. Only complaint so far is that the fence doesn't move back far enough. I groove out/channel certain pieces of lumber and with the fence only going about 4" or so from the center of the router bit, that's going to be impossible now! Wish there was more fence adjustment back and forth. In all honesty I should of saved my pennies for a few more weeks and bought an full sized router table that would of givin me that capability. My Bosch 1617EVS mounted up flawlessly on the router plate... Adjustments to the router through the access hole in the plate works well. No complaints thus far accept for that fence not going back far enough to suit my needs.

    Really nice video, Mario. You keep the viewer's interest well. I'm moving my shop to the basement and want to use something smaller than the floor model table I built. So I'm seriously considering this one. The bit guard/dust shroud on the top seems to be a pita to deal with. I'm surprised at that. Also, I was hoping you could give some insight about how hard or easy it is to remove the 1617 motor from the table to use as a hand held plunge router. It looks like tight quarters. Have you tried that yet? Again, a very nice job with the video and I subscribed to your channel. Jim

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jim, thanks for the comments. I used the fixed base in the router and was easily able to remove it on several occasions with my first project. Yeah, they were a PITA. The table top in a little finicky to get perfectly level. The Kreg table I think either have been a better choice, but the extra custom Bosch plate and dual power outlet would have almost doubled the price.

    Hi Mario, can you change the bit from the top or do you have to take the router out ??

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The short answer is yes. Remove the top plastic round insert. Raise the router from underneath the table, as you will see me do somewhere in the video. Then use the included wrenches. Bosch does sell wrenches that are bent at certain angles to make this easier, however I've been able to do it fine with the included wrenches.

      @m3rdpwr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can. For obvious reasons, please be sure to unplug the router. Basically you will raise the router as high as possible and remove the plastic trim ring. You should be able to get in there fine, with the wrenches included with the Bosch router. Bosch also sells additional wrenches that are bent at Angles to make this easier, however I didn't see the need for them. Thanks for watching!

  • @BC4COLTS

    Ok, how did you mount the router inside the table? On mine I had to remove the wood handles to get it to fit. I also can't get the t-wrench to lift or lower the bits. Any ideas

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Liberal Idiots So, in order to lift and lower the router with the t-wrench, you must unlock the latch on the router base.
      See @5:46 in the video.
      If you look to the right of my thumb on that paddle, if you push that, it unlocks a larger step and you can manually move it up and down larger increments and use the alan wrench for finer adjustments. After that, be sure to lock that lever under the table again.
      I don't recall having any issues mounting the base, but I probably did it without removing the router plate.
      I just stuck it underneath and installed the 3 screws making sure the adjustment hole was in proper alignment.
      Once bolted in, you can slide in the router motor being sure to align it properly with the notch.
      It may be a good idea to look at that before mounting the base so you can see exactly how.
      You may also be able to install the router base with the plate off and install it without the router attached.
      You may have to start dropping in the plate 180 degrees off and spin as you lower it at an angle.
      I preferred not to go this route as that means readjusting the plate all the time might be a pain.
      I am able to remove the router without removing the plate as I have done that.
      If you constantly need to remove the fixed base to use the router free-hand, I suggest looking at getting the RA1165.
      Keep in mind the RA1165 is identical to the included fixed base, but without the handle capability.
      Let me know if all the above makes sense, if not I can assist further.
      Finally, be sure to perfectly align the router plate with the table.
      Problem I ran into is once it is level and you tighten the four corner screws lightly, the plate tends to lower some.
      So I adjust the plate on the tiniest bit high, and just tweak the 4 corner screws a little for a perfect flush fit.
      Thank for watching!

      So there is an outlet you can plug the vacuum into this cabinet. there is no way of avoiding dust in the actual cabinet itself. The vacuum does help some though. @m3rdpwr  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you referring to the Husky table?

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you were referring to the Home Depot Husky table, yes the router plate had too much flex.
      The router plate in the Husky was not a standard size, so swapping it was not possible, unless you made a custom one.
      Also, you can not leave the router installed in it, as when you pull the legs to store it, the router would be in the way/.
      So you would have to remove the router, or plate.
      As a work stand/bench, I believe the Husky is a fine product.
      However, that is not what I bought it for, that's why I bought this Bosch table.
      While not perfect, it does the job for now until/if my needs grow.
      Ketter makes this for Husky, so what I did was buy a Ketter table on sale at BJs for $50 I think. amzn.to/2wv5ppg
      It does not have a router plate, but it does come with clamps and the legs pop-out and lock down.
      Does that answer your question?
      Let me know, and thanks for watching!

    I have the same exact setup. What bit are you using? Because I bought a Bosch roundover bit and i have the height of the bit as high as I could go and it was not near as high as you have it set. I insert the bit all the way and then back it out an 1/8.

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed the stock factory base plate in the Bosch that had four holes in it, and I just bolted the router itself directly to the plate. That probably gave me the extra height closer to the deck. I just used a cheap harbor freight round over bit in the video.
      I have a follow-up to this video showing what I mounted it to You can look for that in the description.

    This router is for beginning to intermediate woodworkers. It's great as a stepping stone to a business earning $$$ in carpentry. I have one and have had fun learning finer woodworking with it. You can make money with it if you learn how to build cabinet doors or cabinet systems but once you start getting hired for extensive systems, you will need to purchase a higher end router. Respect the tool is the best advice he gave because a router is quite dangerous.

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Respect the tool,l is what I was taught, as it can come back to bite you. I don't plan on doing it professionally, so I think this tool last me a good long time and do well. I think I would probably upgrade the router table itself before the router to more easily handle larger pieces. I would also consider getting the new call it from precision bits and the wrenches for it. I hear it helps the round out quite a bit. Maybe something like the large Kreg table. However, I can't justify something like that, or the room for it. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate the words.

    • @m3rdpwr
      @m3rdpwr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      it's not the tool, it's most likely the way I was using it. The more material you take off at once, and the bigger the bit is, the slower you have to run the router, and the shallower the cut you need to do. You would have to do it multiple passes. The Home Centers seem to only carry up to two and a quarter horsepower. I'm sure you can get more powerful that will fit, but they don't seem to carry anything that I have seen.

    Featherboards are set too tight-shouldn't have to fight the work piece to guide them through. Love my two 1617EVS'-one in a custom table (screw store bought-make your own and add the features you need), the other usually in the fixed base, but the plunge base comes in handy.
