    Waiting for my table to come in a couple of days after finding out my Bosch does not fit my old table. Have to say that I enjoyed the video, clear, concise and easy to follow. Have bookmarked it for when the table comes in. Not only did you have great views as you assembled the table, but the speed you did it in along with your oral tutorial was smooth and easy to follow. Thank you sir, I will be checking out your other videos as well. Joey

    You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

    I have one of these tables and my top was warped, as someone else has mentioned in the comments. I contacted Bosch and they sent out a new top, so kudos to them for the customer service. Unfortunately, it was also warped. I took a couple hours and was able to flatten it a bit by knocking down the high spots (with elbow grease and some sand paper on a slab of flat granite). It helped a considerably, but there are still low points and the top still isn't flat enough to support workpieces for something like nicely fitting rails and stiles. I've continued to use it for less precise work, but plan on getting a new table top, plate and fence when I finally tackle the upcoming kitchen project.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I’m sorry to hear about your experience with the table tops. It’s possible I’m just not nearly as attuned to minor differences that some of the users (yourself included) are seeing. Glad Bosch at least tried to remedy the situation. Thanks for the comment!

    I had the Craftsman version of both the table and router. The router I loved but the Craftsman version of the table fence wasn’t so good because I couldn’t align the fence at the opening and work pieces would hit the out feed fence and get caught. • @NorthwestCraftsman

      I just double checked and what is showing in this clip is the MDF not being flush to the table. When I throw my level across the table is flat within about 1/64”. Just got my 1181 from Amazon and assembled tonight, can’t wait to use it! I also ordered the dust collection adapter for the 1617 router that you demo’d from Etsy. That looks like it will prevent any dust from getting out, though I do think it will be a bit of a hassle to change bits. It would be worth it to keep the dust to a minimum.

    Very nice. Thanks for help with assembly. The confusing part is all the screws. All these terms: truss head, pan head, #10 by xxx. Why didn't they just color code the 400 screws that are included? Then they would say, put the phillips head (ORANGE) screws (4) into points, etc.
    Part of your video that really helped was when putting on router plate (aluminum) at point 4:29. One doesn't actually put the 8 screws THROUGH the holes but only uses them for leveling. I know that was said in the instructions but because I didn't have 8 screws anymore (2 were put in wrong location on dust port) it was very confusing. Your video is very helpful, though so I took out the 2 from dust port and now had 8 for top plate.
    What about that round, clear plastic piece - is that supposed to attach to prevent chips from flying up? No mention in manual or in your video? It's about 3 inches in diameter and has a place for a screw at one end.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the compliment! I agree color coding would be a good idea on their part.
      In the screw bag is a small post like screw with a flat head top. Put that inside the post of that clear piece and screw it into the router plate at about the 2o’clock position. It’s intended as a shield for routing without the fence.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If I interpreted your question correctly, it depends on what you’re looking to do. At a high level, this is just the table and the necessary parts to adjust it. However, it doesn’t include the Router. If you buy the Bosch 1617EVSPK (link below), it has a fixed base router body that can be used under the table really easily.
      Regarding other accessories, you’ll need to buy your bits but that’s about it. I’d recommend a cheap variety pack first to see what you use most, then, when you need to replace them, get a nice Freud bit.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s a 2-1/4” port on the back of the fence which works pretty well if you’re using the right size bit collar (the red plastic rings that reduce the gap around your bit). It does like to dump chips below the table if you don’t close that gap (not always possible), which is annoying, but, I’m planning to build something to add dust collection below as well.

    I owned this Bosch table. I have one minor complaint and two major complaints about it. The minor complaint is that the cast and machined table surface isn't flat. It was warped, not severely but enough to be very annoying to me.
    The first major complaint is that the insert is a non-standard size, so you can't use another vendor's router lift.
    The second major complaint is with mounting a Bosch fixed base upside down to the insert plate. When you turn Bosch's MRF01 base, for example, upside down, the entire weight of the router motor is suspended by a single E-clip, a spring clip held in a groove on the height adjustment shaft. That clip eventually gave way and left the motor unsuspended for height adjustments. Most fixed router bases use a similar design such that they're great when used right-side-up, but they're unacceptably weak when used upside down. Combine that problem with the inability to use a third-party router lift, and you end up with an annoying and awkward router table.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert, thanks for your well thought out response. I can understand why the warped table leaves a sour taste, especially if you want to use your table for anything like jointing, makes it unusable.
      I didn’t know that the router plate was a non standard size! Interesting and frustrating if you already have another router. I know it’s designed to work with the 1617EVS and the height adjustment included but I hadn’t thought about height adjustment with other brands. That’s a great point.
      With regards to the mounting, are there not fasteners that attach your router to the router plate? The securement method I have and see on the plate is quite secure. I guess this assumes the default Bosch plate is used.

    • @robertpenoyer9998
      @robertpenoyer9998 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NorthwestCraftsman To be clear, other router motors fit into the Bosch router plate. It has several hole patterns so that you can use other motors. However, the plates of third-party router lift manufacturers won't fit into the tabletop.
      Regarding the E-clip, I can speak only to the Bosch MRF01, the fixed base associated with the Bosch MRC23EVSK router system. Certainly, the fixed base is well secured to the insert plate. And, the main clamp of the base securely holds the motor in the base when routing. BUT, when the main clamp is loosened for height adjustment, the entire weight of the motor is suspended from the E-clip.
      This is getting into the weeds, but you can see an illustration of the E-clip this way: Go to the Bosch website and search for MRF01. Go to the product page that describes the MRF01 and then scroll down under "SUPPORT". Click the "More information" button under "Search for Parts Diagram". Enter "MRF01" (without quotes) in the "Tool Model Number" window and click the Search button. Then click "View Parts Diagram". Item 21 is the height adjustment shaft. Item 23 rides on Item 21 and its tab locks into a groove on the motor; the tab supports the motor when the main clamp is loosed for height adjustment. Item 22 is the E-clip, what the Parts List calls "Retaining snap ring"; THIS supports Items 21 and 23 and, thus, the weight of the motor.

    Is the table perfectly flat. And is the fence 90° to the table? This is important for a router table. You can make high fences, by removing the fence bolts and drill auxiliary fences to fit through the original fences. And bolt all fences together and lock down. This is why it should be 90°.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The table is flat within about 1/64” or less, checked that just a few days ago. I believe I also checked the fence for square but will double check tomorrow morning. In complete agreement that this is critical.

    I was wondering the height of your workbench. I bought a Craftsman early on and - it sure is pretty but - it’s too high for this. I don’t want to make that mistake again.

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Ashlynn! I’m glad you found it helpful! And no worries 😂 I’m right there with you. Always learning.
      If you are making your own workbench, you can customize it to exactly your height. Generally speaking, the height of your work benches will range somewhere between your waist and rib cage. The lower the workbench, the more you are leaning over it, but the more power you can get as your muscling through things. The taller it is, the less power you get behind it, but the more ergonomic and close to your eyes it is for fine work.
      For the router table I have mine at about my belly button. Ideally, you shouldn’t have to muscle anything across the router table, whatever bit you are using should easily cut. I may even opt to have it a little bit higher.
      However, when you are building that workbench, make sure to take into account the height of the router table. Seems like a stupid reminder, but I make those kinds of mistakes all the time. 😂

    • @NorthwestCraftsman
      @NorthwestCraftsman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a great question! The table isn’t really limited on how long of a piece you can fit into it, your biggest limiter will be supporting the workpiece. For reference, I have tongue and groove jointed nearly an 8 foot board on this. Though, I had roller feed supports on the incoming and outgoing side. If you are looking to only support it with the table, 24 inches is probably fine but 36 inches starts to get a little bit dicey, depending on how heavy the work piece is.

      Just put put.it together this morning. The instructions in the manual are very very good, just like you said. Your video really helped with cutting down the time it took to put it together took less than thirty minutes thanks to your video. I am now a subscriber to your channel.
