    I love that you made a mistake and acknowledged it instead of making a whole new video to cover it up. It's a great lesson that even people that are really good at something can still make mistakes and to not beat yourself up if it happens to you. It definitely makes me feel better when my placement is off or something didn't turn out how I would have liked.

      I know I noticed that too cause he mentioned that before on his show, that if it's inside out, it will be a reverse design, that looks like a lot of work, but I already know how to sew, I took it in HS, lol PEACE

      @@MrTieDye That's just wonderful! My Dad is a huge Grateful Dead fan so after watching a video of yours I was hooked! Just in time for Father's Day too! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, but I know it's got to really be a passion! It's so cool that you're able to be creative and make a business with something you obviously love! I'm trying to find my niche I guess lol! Oh, lol, sorry for blabbering ha! I had to tell you how much the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon t-shirt and shoes are seriously my favorite new pieces of art!!! They are just amazing! I actually looked up the Dharma company you mentioned in a video and I can't wait to order! I was really surprised at how inexpensive it was! Bonus! ;) Lol, I am just going on and on, I am so grateful for finding a new awesome hobby! Thanks again for everything! I'll definitely take pictures of my efforts, lol, and send you them. Really appreciate your spreading the creativity bug!!! No pun intended ha! Have a great day! 🕸🌈🥼👟🤟

Shows how much passion you have for your dye art. Hope to increase my dye skills enough to teach a community class for a friend who has been asking me to for months. Thanks again! And can see how easy it would be to forget to flip the design when working inside out. I would do that.

    Dear Mr. TieDye, I think GREAT minds think alike! LOL! I was having issues with gathering/folding the material, & was going NutZ. Well one nite after working THREE hours on a fold & still not completing it, I had a dream. Why not just use a running stitch thro the pattern that I wanted. (I'm doing Grateful Dead Double skulls, but wanted tie dye on rest of shirt) After I stitch both skulls, on top & bottom, I gathered the string & WELL, I'm a VERY happy camper on the outcome. THNX 4 UR videos. U R a TD Rockstar!! Peace!!

    Just when I start to think that I'm getting pretty good at tie dye, I had to go and watch this video! This should be really inspiring for Me, to see someone this advanced at their craft! But instead, I pretty much feel like quitting after watching this!! I feel like the level of skill needed to do this type of work is just simply unattainable for Me!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I apologize for that.... I am here to inspire people and as for stitching, that is just one small part of tie-dye ... just like ice dyeing, batik or low water immersion ..... just another way to go, but I try to do video on how to fold designs so people who do not want to try stitching can still have success with the things that interest them ... I have always been an explorer and love to try new things ... stitching is just one that I have been really good at... but it is not for everyone and it is not a way to measure yourself ..... so much beautiful tie dye out there and a small fraction of it is done with stitching ..... I have been at this for 19 years and came here to share my knowledge in the hopes of inspiring people..... so PLEASE do not quit .... just find the parts of tie-dye that you love and go for it :-)

      @@MrTieDye Don't get Me wrong, I'm really really glad that You do post this intricate stuff, and please keep posting more!! Nobody else seems to be willing to share how to do this stitching type of work! I was always curious as to how it was done, but had no clue how much labor and skill actually goes into it! It is truly inspirational to watch you work, but at the same time, it can be a bit discouraging seeing how good You actually are at it! I feel like I could tie and dye for 40 more years and never approach anywhere near the level that You are at!! Keep making videos, You truly are the most generous person on TH-cam as far as tie dye techniques go!!

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are welcome.... I felt called to be of service the World and Tie-Dye is the thing I know the most about, so with a little push from a few people asking me about videos within a couple weeks, I decided it was time to share my knowledge and TH-cam seemed to be the obvious choice ..... but doing tie-dye in the schools for the last 15 years is what set me up perfect to make these videos .... I am NOT a public speaker and have always been shy ...... before each video, especially the Live videos, I am nervous.... but as soon as I hit the button, I feel like I am sitting at my table in school and I am just doing tie-dye and explaining what i am doing to a group of kids (all of your out there in the World) ... thank you and keep at it ... as for stitching, If people are interested, I recommend an easy pattern to start, like the leaf in the intro video

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      in the past I thought about that, but I did not have a machine and did not want to buy one just to try it out ... I think the main thing is using a long stitch so there is room to pull the threads tight and have the fabric gathered up some ... you might try a simple design first just to make sure it is going to work before spending a lot of time on a complicated design ✌️

    Could you make an Assassins Creed tie dye? Would you use stitching? Or regular pleating?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I looked at the symbol and if you are doing a large tapestry, you might be able to pleat it.... but to get the detail, especially on a tee, I would stitch it.... the symbol is not quite symmetrical, but close enough that I would fold the tee in half and just draw half of the image and then stitch it .... I wish you success and have fun!! ✌🏻

I know it is a long video, but I show my whole process ✌️ ... PLUS, in the description box, there is a link to a Facebook album that has many photos of other stitch designs just to show some more detail of my process

    So I get all excited about doing this shirt because I’m a huge DSOTM fan and I get started. Then halfway through I discovered that normal dye won’t adhere the same to synthetic fabrics, and I was using a 50/50 cotton/polyester shirt, which are what I prefer. I’m finding out that the colors won’t be as bright. Is there anything I can do to help improve my outcome? I haven’t dyed yet but I’m finished with the stitching.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not know of any dyes that work with the poly fabric in the same way that the Procion Dyes work with cotton .....
      I know they make Pigment Dyes that work on poly fibers as well as natural fibers, but they do not provide the same color results as the Procion does, so I am not sure that you would get any brighter colors going with the pigment dyes or not. ........ www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-pigment-dye.html
      I would probably go with the Procion dyes and hope for the best ...... but at some point soon I will be trying out some of the pigment dyes as Dharma sent me a sample of the Flourescent colors of the pigment dyes to try

      MrTieDye thanks for the reply. I bought some little packets at Joanns called Dylon, which says it works on blended fabrics, although it’s not specifically for tie dye. I’m gonna give it a try and if it looks halfway decent I’ll be satisfied. Either way, thanks for your channel.

      I do not recall who I was talking about.... do you know where in the video I mentioned him??
      As for pre soaking.... I have tried it that way, but I found that a needle went through clean dry fabric much easier.... I tried stitching it wet and dry and neither way worked as well as a clean dry tee, plus I had it in my lap most times and the dry soda ash dust would come off the tee ... so mostly personal preference, but some safety as well 😉✌🏻🙏

    • @Joodster
      @Joodster 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MrTieDye , I don’t think the hand-crank Singers have a long enough stitch adjustment to accommodate a quarter inch spacing (hand crank and motorized are basically the same machine), but you can probably find a low-end modern machine that has a basting stitch setting that is more adjustable. I know my Brother machine does, but I got the high end one for garment sewing.

    I know you have a business and make multiples you could do this on a sewing machine... I was curious and just tested it out it took literally 5 minutes for that design will all the lines once I marked out the triangle and lines..I stopped and cut the thread at the end of each line and left a 2 inch tail of thread. You have to put the lowest tension and the lest stitches per inch on the settings and of course you do not backstitch so the threads are open on each end...the threads pull beautifully sewers use this technique to gather fabric. This would be a way to make these faster! I enjoy hand sewing but sometimes it is nice to use the machine to cut the time down when you have to make so many ....There are 50 dollar machines or even a used machine or maybe your wife's sister or mother already has one you can use? what brand of dye do you use?

      I use fiber reactive Procion dyes... I am on west coast, so I buy from dharma ..... www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
      And I know a lot of dyers also buy from Custom Colors in NC .... or Grateful Dyes out of CO ..... Procion is the main thing to look for and it needs soda ash to activate it ..... you can buy that from the dye houses, or you can find it locally in pool supply stores... it is used to raise the pH ... the other name for it iis Sodium Carbonate
