    Can I brag just a little bit... attempted this design and I was 120% (if possible) successful... WOW - what an awesome design... great looking spider (front and back).... awesome T-shirt to add to my collection... only been doing Tie-Dye for 2 months... 15+ T's went to Goodwill Industries and how I have 6 real keepers...!!! PS: Goodwill Industries is a great source to pass along your failures too... because nobody knows...they only see a beautiful T-shirt... lol Thanks Mr. Tie Dye...!!!!

      Yes you can brag all you want... when I go into the schools, I tell the kids to say "I made this myself" when someone comments on their beautiful tee shirt .... and yes Goodwill is a good place, BUT, you can also try doing an over dye with some of those 'failures' I call them lessons ;-) .... but they make a good pallet to try this out ..... th-cam.com/video/CPI_23w6JkY/w-d-xo.html ... and Great job on this design, thank you for sharing your results with me

    Love your work.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have not figured a way to do it... if you try to bleach it, then you may end up with a different kind of spot .... so I just do my best to avoid them... besides turning the tee inside out, I also strain my liquid dyes through a fine mesh filter ..... other than that, you may have to get used to a spot here and there :-)

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you ... I use Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes and the just get mixed with warm water and then I mix up the soda ash separately and soak my tees in it... then when I put dye on the tee, the soda ash activates the dyes and they start to bond, then I leave them to sit for 48 hours and then rinse and wash

    I LOVE YOUR WORK. It has turned me into a color obsessed old lady, I somehow never did tie dye in the sixties, so it's all new, I love opening them up and being amazed! I tie dyed a guitar and now I need to do a bicycle. No video on that so I'm wondering if there is something I can draw on shirt with that won't take the color and I can remove?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have not used it myself, but I know some people have used Elmer's Blue Gel glue as a resist, but make sure to use only cold water when doing the rinse out until you get all of the glue out as the hot water sets the glue ..... another option is wax, but the is a whole new process that I have not done either ....
      BUT, I have done a 'Bicycle Day' tee .... I used thickened dye to dye paint it on ..... here is how I do the dye painting ..... th-cam.com/video/-Vhk_2Y80aE/w-d-xo.html .... I left a white spot for this, but you can also dye the whole tee in lighter colors and then paint the bike on in darker colors

Thank you also for telling me in your videos about the needle nose bottles. I just received and tried them using you rainbow design. Why is yellow disappearing even after 48 hours batching or curing. I will be honest - Tulip and RIT dye ... I live in the middle of the sticks! It is a fifty mile trip to a Hobby Lobby, Micheal’s or Joann’s south and 120 miles north. The yellow is lightening up most of the time some places it just disappears though. If I put black over it it will usually stay. I haven’t dove in the deep water because I honest am not sure what to buy from Darma or the one that starts with a P.... yea, I am dyslexic. I won’t even try to spell it....lol! I haven’t looked at enough to make the letter switch back into place. Just so you know I still see words mixed up. I watch them move. It is color related, so the Irlene’s affects it. Ex. I see the word cat as atc. They said I was born with my own language and had to learn English.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only used Procion dyes... I would assume that fluorescent Tie dyes are made with a different kind of dye.
      As for my favorite colors... I started with the Primary Colors because you can mix the other colors from them .... Turq, Fuchsia and Lemon Yellow ... then I expanded out for there... I like Deep Orange, Plum, Emerald Green, Sapphire Blue, Fire Red, for Blacks, I have New Black, Better Black and Raven Black, and my personal choice was to pour all of the blacks into on container and then use that to make my black dyes from .... I like Bronze and Chocolate Brown, .... I just keep exploring and buying new as I can ... but mostly colors are a personal choice so I say pick what you like

      @@Nightpick ... ahh I see... I have been in black light some and know that the lighter colors like turq or lemon yellow will appear to glow... but I looked into some more and I think dharma sell pigment dyes and they have some bright colors... but i have not worked with them .... but as far as getting set up, the colors I mentioned above are the main ones I use a lot ... and then I have a bunch of other colors that get mixed in .... I love to play with the rainbow and will trade out different greens, blues or yellows just to spice it up .... as for color combos... I get my inspiration from looking at other dyes, or just art in general.... when something jumps out at me, I take note and then go try the colors in a tie-dye.... current fashion is another place to look for color combos ... I hope this helps

      Dharma don't have it

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I buy mine from dharma, and I just checked and it looks like they are all back in stock, it is a long list of dyes they have, just scroll to the bottom of the list : www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html
      I use three different black powders in my jar... New, Better and Raven Black all from dharma. I poured all three dye powders into one jar, shook it up and I use that as my black dye.
      I add 2 tbsp of salt & 2 tbsp of urea to 32 oz of luke warm water, the urea helps to mix more powder into the water and the salt is supposed to help 'push' the dye out of the water and into the fabric when doing LWI.
      I use twice as much black dye powder than I do for any other color. For 32 oz of dye, I use 4 heaping tbsp's of dye powder, SO, a little math here >>
      one level tbsp is 3 tsp, so with my heaping tbsp, I guess it is 5-6 tsp per scoop, so times 4, that is 20-24 tsp for 32 oz of black dye,
      or 10-12 for 16 oz of black dye dye.
      When mixing the black dye, even with the urea, all of the powder still does not dissolve on the first blend, so I carefully pour it through a filter into the bottle, but I leave the bottom of the cup as there tends to be 'black gunk' there. This powder is still needed, so I add more fresh water to the cup and blend again and then this powder will usually dissolve. DO NOT pour it out, or your black will not have its full recipe included and the color will be off.
      One more thing, black dyes take longer to set up, so that is why I started leaving my dyes to batch for 48 hours... it was for the black dyes to start and then I liked how all of my colors looked, so I started batching everything I dye for 48 hours with some heat. 70F is a good temp to batch at, but I stack my tub near a heater vent or out in the sun depending on the weather so they get some nice heat while batching.

    Can the DNA be done with 3 colors? 5 colors? Or is 4 the magic number?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it can.... the main thing to remember with the DNA is to rotate the colors one slot either direction when you start dyeing the bottom... it offsets the colors and gives the pattern ... I have done a rainbow DNA with 7-9 colors

    How do you put color on after you bleach dye any help will be appreciated

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      if you have bleached a tee to remove color, the first thing you need to do is neutralize the bleach, just washing does not stop the bleach action.... after this is done, then you can rinse/wash the tee, then soak it in soda ash and then tie up and add dye ... here is one of my bleach videos to see the neutralization process : th-cam.com/video/PYvfnkV1XSI/w-d-xo.html
      BUT, I have since discovered a couple other products that remove more color AND, they do not need to be neutralized, here is my black tees playlist where I demo the other products... Rit Color Remover and OUT White Brite (this can be found on the bleach isle and comes in powder form)

    Hi mr tie why you make a tie dye shirt with the inside of shirt ? . What happened if i use the outside the shirt ?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is a personal choice for me, there are a couple reasons why I turn the tees inside out ... first, I find it easier to grab the seams when I am centering the tee to fold it in half
      secondly, sometimes with liquid dyes, not all of the dye dissolves completely and there will be tiny specks of dye that leave tiny spots on the tee, so this way, most of those tiny spots will be on the inside of the tee... and this is the same with ice dyeing..... so really this is just a personal choice on how I prep my tees

    Did you dye it with the shirt inside out?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes.... I work mostly on the inside of the tees as sometimes there will be tiny speck of dye that do not dissolve and then they leave tiny spots, so this way they will be mostly on the inside of the tee, plus it is easier to center the tee when I can grab the seams and flatten it out

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no you not have to dye inside out... it is a personal choice for me. Sometimes the dyes do not dissolve all the way and there will be tiny specks of dye and they will leave tiny little spots of darker color on the tee, (reds, purples and browns will do this some times) .... but if the tee is inside out, then most of the tiny specks will be on the inside
      Also, I use artists pencils for my stitched designs and this does not always wash all the way out or get covered with dye, so these stray marks are on the inside as well ... I hope this helps
