THANK YOU!!!! I am so thrilled to come across a video that actually addresses specifically the manipulation of the fabric for this crumple/scrunch technique! I’m one of these non-artistic people who are way too lazy (and have dexterity issues !) for anything precise. I was introduced to crumple technique by a coworker a few years back…. I wear a lot of solid color T-shirts/tanks, shirts, And got so frustrated when a small but stubborn stain would “ruin” my otherwise perfectly fine cotton - Until I learned how easy it was just to salvage and even improve it with some inexpensive tie dye! A lot less waste in my household now :-) EDIT: I’m especially grateful because in the past year or two it has become extremely more difficult to find 100% cotton T-shirts that in a feminine cut for less than nine dollars; because many of the chain retailers moved to a cotton poly blend..
Whenever possible, hunt the shirts in second hand stores. You'll usually get better quality for less money. Of course you should always check the tag for 100% cotton. Unfortunately the shirts with feminine cuts often are the ones with poly or some kind of stretchy stuff, it's why they fit so great :/
thank you... I try to explain the why's as much as I can and yes there is a science behind the art.... and once you know that part, then it really opens up what is possible ... have fun exploring ✌🏻🙏
Thank you so much for sharing! I've been at this about three weeks and enjoying every minute❤. The videos that you and others have shared have empowered me with the knowledge to create beautiful shirts! So grateful 🎉

Oh wow putting the red directly on the yellow and orange was super cool. I figured it was going to make one solid color but it turned out wonderful. Thanks man. Love your channel
Thank you! Cheers! ... and yes I love to layer colors ... but part of the trick to that is adding just a little bit, if you fully covered the yellow and orange, then you would get more of a solid color, so when I do this, I go heavy with the first color which is the lightest, and then I use less of the 2nd color and even less of the 3rd color... I do the same with blues or greens or any other colors that blend well ✌🏻

Hello and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tie-Dye .... I use Procion Dyes I pre wash and pre soak the cotton tees in a Soda Ash solution, this raises the pH level of the cotton which activates the Procion Dyes (sources listed below) and causes a chemical bond to form between the cotton fibers and the Procion Dyes. (Procion Dyes work on other natural fibers as well like : Bamboo, Hemp, Linen, Rayon, and even silk, but I use a slightly different process for silk) I have a ton of videos that are sorted into many different playlists so be sure to explore … I have put a bunch of videos into one Playlist to help get you started with an overview of Tie-Dye, and then how to mix the Dyes, mix or make Soda Ash, Batch the tees (let the dyes set up so the bonding can happen), and the Rinse/Wash Out Process... Also, I have many videos on the basic folds and various ways of dyeing the cotton tees or tapestries ... Have fun exploring and I wish you success on your Tie-Dye Journey, Oh and I recommend taking photos of your work so you can look back and see how far you have come as this is an art that you will need to practice, but it pays off with getting better each time you do it ..... This art can be quite addictive, you have been warned lol 😉 Here is my Beginner's Playlist : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo.html ✌🏻❤️🌈🥳🙏 Here is a list with some more folds to try out : th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2Bzupqjuh_6wdf-wMlgGdAjVaE.html Plus, there are many other tie-dye artists who share their techniques so others can learn, here is a list I have compiled that were mentioned in the tie-dye pages : th-cam.com/users/MrTieDyechannels Most Dyers use Procion Dyes, so just in case you are looking for sources for those, here are the main places to buy them from in the US : CA : Dharma : www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html CO : Grateful Dyes : www.grateful-dyes.com/ CO : CO Wholesale Dye Corp. : www.bulkdye.com NC : Custom Colors Inc. : www.customcoloursinc.com/ MA : Pro-Chemical and Dye : prochemicalanddye.net/ MO : Dyespin : www.dyespin.com

Had to edit to specify which shirt I was talking about, that fourth one has a great kaleidoscope effect! Thank you for sharing. You remind me so much of my physics tutor I had in high school...not so much in the tie dye haha but in your personality and great explanations! You do awesome instructions. It's a good comparison I promise, he was a cool guy, brilliant too. (Never met a guy who loved physics like him... I can tell you during my study sessions I would have rather been tie dying!!)
Two days ago i watched you and you were wearing a red and black t-shirt, idk if its spiral but the tshirt looked great i hope i can see that tshirt again😊! Ps. Best scrunch tie dye t-shirt, ever!
Let me know which video you watched and I will go see what design it was and if I have a video for it ... you can just comment on the video where I am wearing the tee ✌🏻🙏💚 and thank you, I love to help others have fun and success with this art ✌🏻
you are welcome ... and if you do not want to get dye on the band logo part of the tee... you can open the tee up so the back and front of the tee are separate, then fold the image in half and pleat around it and then band or tie it off... then scrunch the rest of the tee... now when it comes to dyeing, I would add plain water or thickened water to the screen printed area so it is wet, then I would wrap it with plastic, or put it in a plastic baggy ... then dye the rest of the tee getting the screen part of the tee wet will help keep the dye from spreading there as the liquid will want to creep and spread through the dry areas of the tee ✌️

Love it a newbie here
Hello and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tie-Dye ....
I use Procion Dyes I pre wash and pre soak the cotton tees in a Soda Ash solution, this raises the pH level of the cotton which activates the Procion Dyes (sources listed below) and causes a chemical bond to form between the cotton fibers and the Procion Dyes. (Procion Dyes work on other natural fibers as well like : Bamboo, Hemp, Linen, Rayon, and even silk, but I use a slightly different process for silk)
I have a ton of videos that are sorted into many different playlists so be sure to explore …
I have put a bunch of videos into one Playlist to help get you started with an overview of Tie-Dye, and then how to mix the Dyes, mix or make Soda Ash, Batch the tees (let the dyes set up so the bonding can happen), and the Rinse/Wash Out Process...
This art can be quite addictive, you have been warned lol 😉

Had to edit to specify which shirt I was talking about, that fourth one has a great kaleidoscope effect! Thank you for sharing. You remind me so much of my physics tutor I had in high school...not so much in the tie dye haha but in your personality and great explanations! You do awesome instructions. It's a good comparison I promise, he was a cool guy, brilliant too. (Never met a guy who loved physics like him... I can tell you during my study sessions I would have rather been tie dying!!)

Any tips for scrunch dying a band tee with a screen print on the chest?
you are welcome ... and if you do not want to get dye on the band logo part of the tee... you can open the tee up so the back and front of the tee are separate, then fold the image in half and pleat around it and then band or tie it off... then scrunch the rest of the tee... now when it comes to dyeing, I would add plain water or thickened water to the screen printed area so it is wet, then I would wrap it with plastic, or put it in a plastic baggy ... then dye the rest of the tee
getting the screen part of the tee wet will help keep the dye from spreading there as the liquid will want to creep and spread through the dry areas of the tee ✌️
@@MrTieDye this is amazing- thank you!! ✌🏼
Beautiful t shirt designs. Thank you 🌹
