My blade 15 had a bulging battery this month. It was warping the case so badly that the trackpad wouldn’t click. Worst of all, this happened 2 weeks after my warranty technically expired, however, Razer said they would honor it and are replacing my laptop free of charge.
@@BenzTranNguyen just get a new one LOL they are easily replaceable tho Andreaux is really lucky to have a nice razer staff normally i hear razer are bad with their services.
I really respect when reviewers go back and present a product standing the test of time. It's easy for all these products to last the short time people normally allow for a product to be reviewed, I like to hear if those claims still hold up in everyday use.
I have used 5 Razer laptops over the years, the newest one I got is a 2019 blade 15. The QC was really the big problem back then, both of my 14 and 17 would overheat even playing league, but battery life was ok. The new 15 def improved thermal. But other companies also improved their design, refined their thermals, and are cheaper. I just like the aesthetic of Razer laptops.
I've watched a number of your videos and I really appreciate how conversational you are. You don't yell at the camera or gesture excessively. Your voice is actually very mellow and easy to listen to. Also, I like that you speak extemporaneously, rather than reading from a prompter. This is coming from someone who is hyper-critical about TH-cam hosts who annoy me.
He sounds like Ali Abdaal and Mrwhosetheboss in terms of how they speak Although I would say most tech reviewers are more on the calm side, finding one who games without being overly excessive with things on the other is very rare.
I have the 2019 advanced model and no issues or anything. Its just working as expected. I couldn't be happier.

I got the 2020 base version and so far I love it. I don't game on it that much, because I already have a gaming PC. But I can see how someone could ruin this beautiful machine if they play games on it all day and use it on their lap blocking the ventilation.
I bought a second hand Blade 15 advanced in 2018 and I have had no issues with it. I do wish the battery lasted a little longer, but it hasn't been much of an issue. I'm glad I got it
@Johann Razanadahy I have the advanced model and the fans are silent. However, I did undervolt the CPU and GPU and repasted with liquid metal but before the modifications it was not noisy.
Once I undervolted and repasted this laptop has been amazing. It was getting extremely hot before I did those two things though - regularly sitting at 100 degrees. For working, playing a game, and keeping it on the go, this has been a fantastic laptop.
So you helped Razor diagnose and correct the issues you had with not one but two Razer systems for what sounds like a long time! Thanks for your candid commentary.
I recently bought the Razer Blade 15 base model (2019), and it has been so far so good. Excellent performance, elegant chassis and comfortable design. It gets a little bit hot when playing games, but not that much. I only wish it perdures over the time!!
Got the 2018 blade 15 two years ago and i still love it. i've had the blue screen maybe 3 times over the span of three years. Which is not bad, no idea what caused it in those instances but aside from that its done a great job of gaming and giving me the power needed for 3d modeling for engineering classes. I even started using it to edit some podcasts. I've keep it in good condition by cleaning the fans whenever a decent amount of dust has built up and the removable bottom plate definitely helps keep it hassle free. The one thing is the 2018 keys dont light up the secondary function keys like brightness and volume, but fortunately the 19' and 20' versions do.
Been using my 2080 Blade 15 OLED 2019 for almost a year now. I echo others comments about battery life. I am lucky to get 4 hours..usually more like 2.5. I really wish the laptop could charge over USB C. I don't need to charge on USB c while gaming but it would be nice to not have to carry around the huge power brick for general web browsing on the go. Keyboard has a small learning curve, the right shift took some time to get used to. Love the OLED screen. I play games mainly on an external 27" monitor with higher refresh, so the low refresh on the OLED is not a big issue for me. I have had no BSODs yet, crossing fingers...Overall, I am still pleased with purchase.
@Johann Razanadahy idle with nothing open, fans are quiet. fans do spin up for me when not gaming but it's usually because I have several programs open. Even then, the fan noise is no where near as loud as during full load.
i'm planning or was planning on getting the 4k one I ended up ordering the legion but i'm not sure if I should go for the razer if i end up not liking it do you think it's worth? I'm coming from mac
2018 Blade 15 (Advanced model) user and watching this on my blade as well. One of the things that suck the most about customer service is when you have to send it in. I live in the UK, and it takes a round trip time of 3 weeks from sending it to getting it back, which is a big hit, especially for me as my primary computing device. Recently when I opened up my laptop to upgrade my ram, I noticed that the battery was bulging and since I couldn't afford to lose my laptop for three weeks, I just swapped it myself with a third party battery. The customer service reps, on the other hand, have been understanding and good for me. That being said, I still don't think that there's really been any competition to the blade in terms of its solid looks. Sure MSI, Asus have equally powerful laptops, but I could never bring them into my work meetings without sticking out like a sore thumb in a sea of MacBooks and dell XPS's. Given how responsive they've been to the flaws of the 2018 model with 2019 and 2020 model with things such as the right shift key (super annoying) and the USB C charging as well, I would still probably consider buying a blade 15 in 2021 or 22 even if they don't offer AMD and that's saying a lot given just the sheer everyday ease of usability of the blade. I really wish other manufactures could step up to the level of design as the blade with as much power it offers.
Xmg, alienware, legion, acer all these are waay better and the new hp omen too razer is stupid the 2060 build is 300 pounds more expensive than other competitors like why?
I got a 2020 model and got dead pixels after a week, sent it back for repair and it should be here in the next few days, but the experience with the laptop itself was unlike anything I ever had. Great peformance, battery life, it's very compact and SUPER SOLID. Not to mention how beautiful it is. I would never bring in some chonky laptop with half-plastic build and obnoxious font on the keyboard no matter how much cheaper it is.
@@malovent538 I moved to razer 15 from an Alienware r17. Again, as I mentioned a before I wanted a laptop that I could actually use anywhere I want without having a super gamery aesthetic outdoors
@@rampari MSI GS66 stealth, Asus Zephyrus S Gx502, new HP omen, Asus Zephyrus G14, etc. The list goes on. Better service than Razer and performance on few of those. But you do you.
I have a base model as well from 2019. RTX 2060 / 144hz. Been using for over a 3 months now. All I can say is, it's an incredibly built laptop. Literally a Macbook PC, no other windows laptop comes close as far as build quality (The Surface Book as up there). The trackpad is absolutely incredible. Plays pretty much every game I throw at well above 60fps. (Gears 5, Halo MCC, NBA 2K20 etc) It's also very fast and efficient. I do all my graphic work on it. There are a few cons though. The charger, as mentioned in the video, is stupid, it gets in the way, I wish they came up with a better design for it. Fan Noise. Fan's randomly accelerate up and down if not calibrated correctly. Besides that, it's a great laptop all around and definitely a poster boy laptop for the best windows can offer if you want performance and design.
@123 321 I had to turn off Intel's "Turbo Boost" in the Bios. Pretty much eliminated all fan noise when browsing the web. It'll be a more consistent sound coming from your Laptop. Those random "jet engine" ramp ups were annoying the crap out of me. However, just know, that depending on what site you're on, the fans are destined to start running at some point. All laptops make noise...even macbooks lol Disabling the Turbo Boost the laptop won't "rev up" randomly either. Since it'll always bee running at a base clock of 2.6 Ghz. There's also a bug if your fans do start running randomly, opening up task manager will slow the fans down.
I’ve had my Blade 15 (RTX 2060, i7-8750) for 11 months now and have had zero issues with it. I primarily game on it but I also edit photos in Lightroom/Photoshop. I keep it plugged in basically 24/7. It has replaced my self built gaming desktop for sure.
I’ve had my razer blade 15 advance 2019 model since feb of last year and I love it. It gets hot but I have a fan in my room aimed at it which brings it down significantly which is awesome for summertime gaming
I'm returning mine for a weird pulsating high pitch sound that is present during low/mid fan speeds. I am considering getting another one because I love the laptop, but I am not sure if I have just been unlucky or that this is common....
I'm using the Blade 15 2019 as my workstation at home. I'm plugged in the entire day, so I decided to remove the battery to prevent it from bloating. Working great. Undervolted too. Temps while playing Apex Legends reach around 75 - 80 C.
@@cheeso8192 Yeah true that! But I went for the fail-safe option. Don't want to spend time finding a replacement battery if it bloats. That's gonna be a pain.
I've had the Blade Pro 17 for a few months now. I've been loving it so far. No issues at all. The only thing I wish Razer would implement is better performance tuning options in Synapse. Balanced mode runs pretty much everything really well though. Can't complain too much.
I'm so glad you've posted this video! Strangely, even as a Blade 15 Advanced owner (early 2019; i7-8750H w/ 2070 Max - Q) I've been trying to find an analysis of the blade systems from the tech-reporter community. Coming from a 2011 MacBook Pro and as a my initial foray into the Windows ecosystem, the only criteria I had for a laptop was I wanted to find a system that could provide exceptional performance with a comparable build quality to that of the MacBook lineup. Razer definitely filled that niche, and I have to say, having owned this system for just over a year now, I've been generally pleased with the switch. To the point of build quality, I will say that I did run into some similar issues to those who are vocal in the Razer community. I had to RMA my device for a detached speaker head, and have a stuck pixel that I absolutely cannot fix. However, I will say on the customer service front, I have experienced nothing but phenomenal assistance from the Razer team. They have been more than willing to work with me on fixing the speaker issues months ago. The battery life is meh, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the platform. I've upgraded the SSD to a 1TB Evo 970, use this on a daily basis with an external monitor, can play every single triple A game at exceptional framerates. Beside the suggestions you've made (which are all wonderful) I'd like to see Razer offer their higher refresh rate OLED on the upcoming late-2020/early-2021 models, similar to the 120Hz OLED panels they have on the current Blade Pro 17's.
My experience after all that years, i only go with a solid dell workstation, mobile or not. Parts available nearly everywhere, even for some of the oldest models, solid drivers and customer support, easy to self maintain. Razer fooled me once.
Decided to take my chances with the 2020 base model, I've had it for about three months now and no complaints. After extensive reviewing I found the 2020 to be more reliable than 2019. It also has 2 ssd slots which is fantastic as I now have 3 tb of space available on it which is pretty insane.
@@Peebsta007 Runs almost as good as I got it, had to replace the battery (expected) and one fan but other than that it's still doing its thing, battery lasted about 2 years before bloating, I always use it on a cooling pad when possible and that helps with temps tremendously.
I got my early 2019 RTX 2070, 8750H Blade 15 Advanced for christmas last year and I absolutely love it. I experienced a few blue screens at the beginning but those were quickly resolved by raising my undervolt of -145 I had on it. My machine has coil whine that's mostly noticeable while the machine is booting or charging, but other than that it's been pretty problem-free.
@@nff_1950 nope, the thing crapped out on me and razer support was the absolute worst. I sent back 7 laptops before realizing it wasn't getting any better so I packed up and bought a Dell XPS in November 2021.
My personal wish list for a perfect Blade 15: -120hz/90hz 16:10 1440p panel with at least 500nits -Redesigned charger (preferably magsafe) -99 milliamp hour battery -AMD CPU -best in class webcam and mic -fingerprint reader power button
I love my Razer 15 Base Model 2019. I've had mine for roughly 6 months and it is a solid Premier Pro Portable Editing Station. I did upgrade my M.2 to a 1TB and my the internal Barricuda Hybrid drive to a 2TB Evo. I didn't have any issues with BSOD but it was a pain to upgrade the Drives as the Replica drives never worked. It took me 4x to get it to work each time doing the same process. Other that the SD slot missing I can't say I have any major gripes. It plays R6Seige and PUBG 60+ frames all day for when I'm not Editing. In conclusion it is my favorite portable workstation to date.
Similar experience, I also went to 32GB RAM for After Effects use and it's been absolutely stable. Still prefer my Macbook Pro for most things, but for pure power the Blade is hard to beat.
Bought Blade 15 with RTX 2070 max-q and 240hz screen, upgraded SSD with 1TB 970 evo plus, RAM with 32GB 2666mhz CL 15. Been using for last 8 months and its working solid. Had few BSODs from undervolting to -0.160v, -0.150v, set to 0.140v and works fine.
I currently work/game on a Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (mid-2019), got a bloated battery after about a year or so. It was easy enough to order a replacement battery from Amazon, which works just fine. However, I must say there are some things that I did (or rather didn't) do that may have contributed to the bloating. 1) I kept it plugged in 24/7 most of the time; 2) Didn't do any sort of maintenance on it for that year, after the battery started bloating I sent it to a shop, which revealed a crazy amount of cat hair and dust inside (especially on the fans), and the thermal paste was completely dry. 3) Didn't manually adjust the fan speed on my long gaming sessions (often 4-6 hours). After the battery replacement, thermal repasting and cleaning inside, and maxing the fan speed with Razer Synapse, I was impressed with how cool the laptop was (70-75°C CPU, 60-65 °C GPU when gaming), and the performance was pretty much as good as it was when the laptop was new. I fortunately never had a problem with BSODs, the few ones that I got occurred when I undervolted the CPU more than I was supposed to (ended up just keeping the original undervolt, no BSODs since). Still love this machine and I don't regret buying it, as it delivers the performance that I wanted for games, and it's a pleasure to work on. I'll definitely be sending it to the shop for maintenance every 6 months to keep it clean and to re-apply thermal paste.
Had my Blade Advanced 2019 for over a year. I made some minor changes : 32 GB RAM Vengeance & SSD 2 TB 970 EVO + and changed TIM to Grizzly Kryonaut. Using the laptop with an Elgato Thunderbolt 3 Pro Dock. This serves to connect : Basilisk Ultimate + Huntsman Elite or Huntsman TE. Main usage before Covid 19 : light gaming and office & video editing. Main usage after covid 19 : 250 hours in TW3, 100 hours in CoD MW2 and 50 hours of Dragon Age Origins. Sounds like a jet plane, Synapse Profile is GPU at 4800 rpm on a Coolermaster cooling pad. Undervolted with ThrottleStop to 3.2-3.5 depending on the heat outside. No issues with the laptop at all except : 1. Charging port is scratched like a cheetah had s*x with it. 2. I noticed some areas of my screen that have developed some bleeding.
Issue number one was the best description ever. And for your sake, I really hope cheeto's aren't sentient roaming around your house, 'n shit. Oh* Cheeta, lmao. Yeah that works better I guess.
what do you mean 3.2-3.5? I undervolted mine to -99.6 and I am not sure of whether this is what is causing the freezing and black screens doing things like chrome, photoshop, zoom, and other simple things you think this thing could handle. Maybe you could help me out? Can't find any legit material to follow along to troubleshoot.
2018 Blade 15 (GTX1060 model), Mercury White. I've had the webcam and microphone die on this machine three times within the first year, each time requiring an RMA. The last time, they actually replaced the entire laptop with a refurbished one. My theory is that the mic/webcam cable running over the heatsink is what keeps causing it to fail; WHY did they use foot-long display cable running over the hottest part of the laptop? Anyway, to their credit, Razer did fix the problem each time. Customer support was bizarrely inconsistent. One time, they asked me to print up a hard copy of every email I had exchanged with them and include the printed emails in the box with the laptop. Two of the RMAs were crazy-quick, with only a week of turnaround time; the third RMA took over a month.
I bought a 2019 base model and I honestly have lost count of how many times I've used the warranty, customer service sucks, definitely do not recommend
Exactly. JUST BUILD A COMPUTER If you research parts in depth for around a month, you will know the basics about each part. That’s what I did. Still saving $$$ for parts, so W.I.P.
I've been lucky with all my Razer products fortunately. I have the 2080 Blade 15, I got it when RTX laptops first dropped and it's been a great experience. The power chord is definitely the biggest annoyance. The Blade got me through college (Architectural Technology @ NAIT in Alberta) and I've done work on it that I'm very proud of. The laptop and software at my disposal (Revit, Enscape mostly) allow me and others in this industry to do things unthinkable not long ago like real time rendering where I can fly/walk around a building and troubleshoot design problems. Grateful for the hardware and software available.
I also have been using Razer Blade 15 for over a year and from last few days it was thermal throttling like crazy, so I cleaned the fans, repasted thermal compound and undervolted it and finally now getting the performance back, I made a video of all the process so it can be helpful to others :) Due to excess amount of heat my laptop battery swelled and now it has a power limit throttling issue so I have to replace it now.
I got a 2020 model and got dead pixels after a week, sent it back for repair and it should be here in the next few days, but the experience with the laptop itself was unlike anything I ever had. I have had my 2019 Blade 15 adv/2070 for almost a year now. No issues of late. However, in the first few weeks of ownership I could even turn it on!! Had to get client care involved in every instant to help me get it turned on. It was some sort of stand by-battery clinch as it turned out. Other than that is has been a great lap top
Bought mine a little over a Year ago, wanted a laptop that could game and edit and I fell in love with how the Blade looked. Used it for about a week and started getting the same BSoD that you got, sent it to Razer, they changed the Ram and I got it back. After that I wanted to upgrade the SSD and the Ram, so I did, put in 32gb of ram and 1tb SSD, but a little bit less than a month later the computer started turning off when unplugged, but I could still play games and edit, but a couple of days later, the computer started turning off under heavy load regardless if it was plugged in or not, so I sent it back to Razer and they replaced the battery, all that happened in the first six months of owning the laptop, so far everything has worked perfectly and the costumer service was actually pretty lovely (I used the chatroom feature) But yeah, it was a headache inducing first six months of owning a Razer Blade.
Something I like about my razer blade 15 is the cooling. I've had gaming laptops in the past. When they'll be on battery, they will still ramp up the fans. When I'm on battery, I disable turbo mode and not only is it quiet, but it also provides better thermals, and better battery life. Speaking of battery, the cooler temps when disabling turbo would most likely prevent the bloated battery issues. On the battery unit itself, it says "don't expose over 65c". I just keep an eye on temps and make sure it doesn't go above 65-70c.
I have the 2019 base model and honestly it works like a charm. There was an issue where my computer crashed like there was no tomorrow to the point where I got stuck in a bios loop, but that was from a faulty component- when I addressed it to them they sent me the information to send it over immediately and I got it within 2 weeks and I’ve never had a problem since. The heating does get a little absurd but I can attribute that to the fact that I’m in the attic while it’s summer. It does collect dust quicker than every other laptop I used but it’s easy to clean. It runs games for me perfectly (when plugged in of course) and it’s never struggled to maintain 60+ fps or even 120+ fps. I’ve had like no connectivity issues, lags, dips in frames or anything like that and it just feels sleeeeek. It handles running multiple applications really well and the screen is appealing to the eye... just like not outside lmao.
Have an blade 15 2019 2070 max in the white. Beautiful. Just Despise the keyboard still. The 2020 upgrades are just ugh exactly what I need to be fully satisfied. It gets absurdly hot and screen brightness is a tad lacking as you mentioned, but overall very happy with the machine. And got it for 2k at best but in November, was a great deal, that they discounted accidentally in the store for me. Been using it for gaming and now pro tools actually. I'm new to pro tools in general but seem to have found a workflow that produces quality without crackling or popping, which is rampant for windows in general. Anyways great vid!
I've had a Razer Blade 15 for about a year now, 2018 model with RTX 2060. It's my daily driver, I haven't had any BSOD issues, I get about 50 - 70 minutes battery life unplugged, sometimes I'm noticing artifacting when waking from sleep, but refreshing / moving the windows fixes that on the Razer Display and my external monitor. I slightly undervolted the CPU and I use it primarily to consume media, plays games (Mostly Doom: Eternal and StarCraft 2) and programming. I was super concerned because of stories like yours and LTT, but have been pleasantly surprised because I love the form factor, build quality and keyboard on my Blade.
Ive had my Blade advanced mode for almost 2 years now (bought October of 2018). It has been one of the best computers I've ever owned and (knock on wood) I have yet to run into any issues with it:)
Got the Advanced Blade 15 2018 (GTX 1070 and 144hz) for about 3 months, after installing ThrottleStop to reduce overheat ingame (and improve battery life), no issues so far. Been able to play games like Overwatch, Mortal Kombat 11, Hitman 2 without much issues. But at the same time, I'm putting the fans at maximum speed. It can be considered loud but still bearable. Overall, no regrets so far !
I got the stealth 13 late 2019 last May, so far so good, the built quality is fantastic although the blade is very easy to get dirty at the palmrest but you can clean it easy too
Been running a blade 15 2070 advanced model for 17months. Game for hours every day. No issues, performs well, no BSOD. People in the comments sometimes have different experiences though.
@@m4kill934 cool, thanks for the reply, and how are the temperatures on medium or moderately high settings in games or when video editing if you do so?
My battery started bulging after 2 years I just ordered a new one for 87$. I use this laptop at college for gaming and school. For gaming it works perfectly fine. For school however, it’s hot, sometimes loud, and doesn’t have the best battery life. It does what I need it to do though so for my specific case I am happy with it.
Prior to getting a 2020 Blade 15 Base, I had purchased 4 used Razer laptops of varying vintages. All of them developed some issue that required either returning them for a refund or selling for a substantial financial loss. I should have learned my lesson, but no other laptop I could find had the combination of hardware, upgradability, and style of the Blade. Plus, I have a Razer mouse and keyboard for my desktop, so there was seamless integration there. I've had no issues with my current Blade in the few weeks I've owned it. Temperatures are excellent, the fans aren't obnoxiously loud under load, and battery life is decent - about 4-5 hours at low brightness and with CPU turbo boost disabled. Time will tell how long it will last, but I have an extended warranty from Best Buy just in case.
Great video - I always expect great quality and well thought out videos from you guys, and you never disappoint! This is so much more useful than a list of specs and FPS scores 👍
I’ve got the Razer Blade Studio. Pricy AF but I’ve had it since March and I’m loving it. It’s holding up perfectly and has no issues to date. Hopefully I can get a solid 2-3 years out of it without issues.

I still have the 2018 advanced model. The pros: great screen, good performance for me, great looks and build quality. The cons: I don't know if it's just my unit, but speakers are very underwhelming, they sound too compressed even on lower volumes (20-30), and above 90 they distort. Had screen issues six months in, ENDLESS back and forth with customer support for 4-5 months before sending it for repairs. I got it back a couple of weeks later, panel replaced, but with sloppy assembly (bezel squished and not glued properly at one corner), trackpad not flush with the body (one side dipped) and can't be clicked anymore, well it can, but now you need to engage your shoulder and back muscles for it. The screen is also slightly bent on one side which is only seen when the lid is closed. Let me remind you this is not a cheap laptop, and I get there can be defective units, but the customer support is the reason why my next laptop won't be a Razer. Edit: an hour later I discovered that one of the symptoms of a swollen battery is actually a protruding trackpad, so there's that.
Thank you Eber, someone said it! Razer needs to implement AMD CPUs into their product line, maybe GPUs as well among the other improvements you've mentioned. Great review!
I love my Razer 15 2070. I don't care for the keyboard too much, usually use a bluetooth wireless one (normally laptop is docked to my tv unless traveling). Had to deal with Razer support (only other complaint, the soft T5 screws..) back in December and gotta say, that was one of the best support experiances I ever had. They paid for shipping to them, and back to me. First email was on the 19th, shipped it out on the 22, received it back on Jan. 5. In comparison my last laptop was an ASUS ROG and shortly after receiving it the screen just quit working. Shipped it on a Feb. 20....i found an email where I sent them asking about on March 28, couldn't find another email but I think I recieved it back first part of April. This is after they told me I had to ship it to them (90$) and they paid for shipping back. In contrast Razer had the best support I've ever experienced, with any RMA. Granted I've only had a ship a few products back, even with a razer mouse, a first gen Naga, they told me to send them pictures of the cord cut and I had another mouse in like 2 days.
Picked up the newest Blade 15 about a month ago, the battery life takes some getting used to (coming from an ultrabook) but other than that it's been great. Built like a tank.
I have an early 2019 model and 14 months later, it still performs like a champ. No issues! Battery life is still around 6 hours watching TH-cam after my optimisations. Best of all, I picked up an almost new 2070MQ unit for $1800 ($700 below list price)
Yeah, my 2019 Blade 15 Advanced has been shitting the bed recently... CPU temps are pinned at 100C even on not very demanding titles, frames have gone down significantly since I bought it. I'm bought some Kryonaut and a ifixit kit and hopefully repasting it will bring back the performance I paid for 2019 Blade 15 Advanced 240hz i7-9750H RTX 2080 Also, Razer Support hasn't done anything to help...
That's really disappointing to hear. I bought my Blade Pro in 2017 for four grand and I've gone through 3 OEM battery swaps (bloated). I recently saw my thermals peaking at 92 and decided to repaste with Kryonaut. It barely goes over 80 now and hits a max 86 in really heavy titles. I hope yours does the same :)
@@killerofprimes Yeah hopefully! You know how much performance you gained? I've lost like 80fps in most games... Also, yeah my Kryonaut paste came today still waiting on the ifixit tool kit tho haha
Arden Unger Wow 80 FPS loss is insane. I wasn’t suffering from any poor performance issues so repasting barely did anything. I was able to overlock my cpu slightly though. Have you looked at your cpu and gpu clock speeds or usage percentages? What FPS are you getting in your games?
Sadly accelerated cpu degradation due to thermals is a very real thing. It will never be the same, hopefully it hasn’t been running hot for too long of a time.
@@killerofprimes Well, until my toolkit comes I turned off turbo boost in the bios which has brought me down to 80C and I still get 220fps in CS (Not surprised) and 60-80fps in heavier UE4 games like Insurgency Sandstorm. It was throttling pretty hard, because even with Turbo boost off it's still getting around the same frames as when it was on. At 100C with Turbo it was at around 4GHz GPU still stays in the 80s and runs anywhere between 1.3-1.6GHz.
I’ve been using my Razer Blade base (late 2019 - 1660ti model) and so far I’m very happy. I was looking for a everyday laptop which is well built, looks and feels nice and will give me decent performance for everyday use, programming and of course some gaming on the side. So far I’m very satisfied. No problems or whatsoever. Computer is not too loud, it never crashed so far (bsod or something similar) and temperatures don’t go too high when I put it under heavy loads. I think Razer will just keep on improving.
Very good vid my dude!!, I have a blade 15 base model 2019 that I got because of your review back in the day and it was a thing to consider since Razer does not ship to my Country, not even Amazon and the ones you see there are 3 party sellers asking for 3 times the cost so it was difficult for me to get one and the one thin that worried me the most was the CS specially being out of the US, Anyway I got it and luckily it’s been awesome, I recently started my YT and been editing in the blade 15 everything super quick, I used to have a G7 from dell and the difference was really noticeable. Thank you for that review and thank you for being always honest on your reviews guys!
I bought a 2019 240hz, 2070mq at Best Buy for a great deal. Around 1799 iirc. It was a good laptop, the hinge mechanism had a weird click when opening or closing. I was fine with it but returned it due to wanting to build a gaming desktop instead. Few months later I sold my MacBook Pro 15 and bought another blade, this time the 2019 144hz 2070mq for a good deal as well. This laptop was a little quieter than the first one, same low cpu temps (80ish) and low GPU temps (70ish). I gave this one to my wife and I bought myself a 2020 advanced 300hz 2070super mq. This laptop is perfect. No creaks, excellent temps, not loud at all. I can game anywhere without the fans sounding like a jet engine like other laptops (sorry MSI and Alienware). Yes, razer will limit performance to keep temps and noise at a minimum but , to me, it’s wort the sacrifice for a better experience. Imagine my embarrassment when I’m gaming at a Starbucks on a MSI gs66 and the fans got too loud some people asked if my laptop was fine, I couldn’t hear due to the headset. But what an embarrassment. I did purchase a 3 year protection plan at Best Buy in case accidents or issues happen.
I have two Blade 15's. I think they're both 2019 models. One of them used ti be a 2018 model but the fans broke so many times, they had to send a refurbished model and the refurbished model was broken out of the box. And then they sent me a 2019 model that finally works. I hope it keeps working because the process was a nightmare. The customer service is terrible. Im almost ready to stop buying their products. They have the worst customer service out of any company I know. And then on top of that I had to work on getting the razer care transferred over to the new units, because the razer care had not started yet and that process was also awful. They definitely need way better customer support. Some of these mistakes could be easily forgiven if they had amazon-like customer support.
Completely to agree with this; from start to end, it took 2 whole months before my unit was repaired. Thermals in the 2018 models are so bad I feel it should be recallable and it seems razer agrees, as after mentioning this in an angry email after a month of pointless back and forth (with presumably an automated service), razer immediately escelated my case and the unit was fixed within a further 2 weeks... You simply cant be treating a customer base like this when they've invested litterally thousands into one of your products!
Have a Blade 2018 - Advanced Model with a 1070-Max Q. Bought it in Nov 2018. First, my laptop started shocking me when I touched the body of the laptop. Then the webcam started having grey interlacing artifacts. Then the microphone just died, so I had to do calls with a microphone plugged into the 3.5mm jack. Then the battery started swelling. Got in touch with Razer. First RMA happened. Battery issue fixed, but they forgot to send my 230w adapter back and fix the microphone. Now, the laptop is again sent for the 2nd RMA. Hopefully, this time around I don't need to have another 20 day RMA process. It's a good laptop with a good screen. But it does run hot. It does have reliability issues. The customer service is responsive most of the time. But, the service center engineers might be overworked as right now they are missing a few details during the repair process.
Battery budge curse has came upon my laptop, recently learned that its not really even the battery's fault in the first place but rather the laptop getting too hot and making the battery expand. The battery max temp is 65c and if you've ever owned a razer you know thats a joke under high load. Big tip to help prevent another battery replacement soon, When replacing battery also replace the thermal compound!
I've got a 2019 advanced model 2070 Max-Q. Had issues with the touchpad twice now in the last 2 years. Was in warranty so alright I guess but inconvenient. Between these issues the laptop has been an absolute joy to use. Love it. Just shouldn't be running into this many issues on such an expensive laptop (I take really good care of it too and still had issues) If I had to do it again, I'd probably choose something else... I'm a sucker for the design tho
This video has made me feel better about my purchase two days ago of my Legion 5 15. Thank you. Considering it with GTX 1660-ti or the Blade 15 with RTX 2070 I realized I was getting a bit crazy about graphics spec I will never fully use!
I have a 2019 blade 17inch. I'm a software dev and it's been good. I did have issues with sleep/hibernate resume after travelling with it a few times as the RTC clock battery had become loose in its socket. Once I diagnosed it and bent the pins to hold it in better it's been perfect. I do really miss being able to charge over usbc using my dell dock from my previous XPS15, I still occasionally do the whole Shift Up-Arrow replace text thing and I'd love a bigger battery. But I adore the desgin and having that second NVME ssd so I have a 'work' drive and a 'play' drive is fantastic.
I have owned a 2020 model for about a month now. I came from an Msi gs65, and while I loved using that laptop, it got so hot and had such poor build quality. After moving to the 15 2020 advanced, I could not be happier. The temps are perfectly balanced between not being too hot where you are actually touching, fan noise, and performance. CPU temps being thermal throttled in most other laptops results in super stuttered gameplay, so razer keep the temps down to prevent it actually results in a better experience from anything else I have used. I hate the power cable I agree. But everything else has suited my needs perfectly and I have not used a better machine that makes me this happy with few concessions before.
As a Razer Blade 15 user myself, I would like Razer to improve on their keyboard esp. with key travel. Man, they are nice to look at but it is too shallow. Do a mechanical option like what Aourus G14. Next, that annoying power thicc cable, they are annoying. Next, 99 watt battery (that would be awesome). Then, brighter screen. Lastly, AMD Ryzer cpu (they are killing it now) . Despite those flaws, I love my Blade15. Hoping it will last long.
I'm a blade owner for more than 6 months, and I have the 1070max q version from 2018. There're just way too many software problems with this machine. First 2 months I had my logo stop working, then to my microphone and finally to my camera. I mean as a gamer these things don't bother however if I'm paying so much for a laptop. It always good to have it when I need it. I sent my laptop to repair last month and it took me 4 weeks to get my laptop back. Terrible customer service.
Got the Blade 2020 a month ago. It's the base with Rtx2060. All in all I love the laptop. I play single player games on it like Hitman 2, and it handles it great with dx12 easily 90 plus fps. I didn't like the warm color on the display, so changed it to cool using Intel Graphics command center. Lastly I purchased a dbrand skin for it.
Show us a notebook that DOESN'T have tons of customer issues. On the positive side, Razer DID win the Laptop Mag tech support showdown this year so that point has indeed improved. Source: www.laptopmag.com/articles/tech-support-showdown
luckily our countries economy is so bad that if it was good it wouldn't be as expensive as of now and people who wanted it would've suffered these issues, thanks south america
That's why even though I get tempted by the design of Razer blade from time to time, I still go to proper/experienced hardware manufacturers like Asus and Dell. I mean they are not perfect or anything, but at least there are certain characteristics that you can expect from them as they have a longer list of records.
I bought my Razer Blade 15 2020 (Base Model) a couple of months ago. So far no problems, but the battery life sucks. I only get about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The build, the trackpad, the keyboard are amazing. It does get pretty hot when you are gaming but the performance is amazing! If you don't mind the battery and it getting hot, go for it!
I’ve owned several Blade 15’s and ran into issues with most of them. On my 144hz 2080MQ model the screen has different hues on the left and right. Might be an issue with the factory calibration but is very noticeable on white websites. Literally each half of the screen looks like it was calibrated differently (could be a bad backlight). Secondly I find lightning devices don’t receive enough power from the lightning port and bug out (m.2 enclosure connects and disconnects rapidly and isn’t related to the port snugness) on my first razer it worked just fine. I recently upgraded to the newest 300hz 2080 super model and ran into weird performance issues. For instance out of the box overwatch runs at ~200 fps. If I unplug the laptop while gaming the frames drop to 32 which is expected. I disable the GeForce battery saver and it still stays at 32 (at that point it should jump to 60). Once I plug the laptop back in the FPS will either stay at 32 or sometimes will go up to ~ 95 and no higher. I’ve tried everything imaginable including software updates on GeForce/synapse/intel, updated the bios, rebooted. I even uninstalled the driver for the power controller. Nothing would get the performance back. At that point I exchanged it as I thought it was a lemon. Got the replacement and the same issues plagued this one. At this point I believe it’s a synapse software issue with the optimus stuff not allowing the gpu to run correctly. I gave up on razer at this point and I’m preparing it for return as we speak. Bought a Zepherus G14 for half the price of the razer and have been very happy with the little power house. Razer makes beautiful laptops but I’ll be damned if I pay a premium for a headache.
My blade 15 had a bulging battery this month. It was warping the case so badly that the trackpad wouldn’t click. Worst of all, this happened 2 weeks after my warranty technically expired, however, Razer said they would honor it and are replacing my laptop free of charge.
that is awesome, good for you man!
That's certainly nice of Razer. They could legally have spat on you and left you with an overpriced laptop that doesn't work.
Bought a blade 15 last year, battery bloated this week :/
@@BenzTranNguyen just get a new one LOL they are easily replaceable tho Andreaux is really lucky to have a nice razer staff normally i hear razer are bad with their services.

I really respect when reviewers go back and present a product standing the test of time.
It's easy for all these products to last the short time people normally allow for a product to be reviewed, I like to hear if those claims still hold up in everyday use.
This exact model is 20hrs away from my front door. I was relieved after watching this video.
In what way?

Did you get it during Razer's sale a few weeks ago?
He sounds like Ali Abdaal and Mrwhosetheboss in terms of how they speak
Although I would say most tech reviewers are more on the calm side, finding one who games without being overly excessive with things on the other is very rare.
Unboxedtherapy the liar lol
I have the 2019 advanced model and no issues or anything. Its just working as expected. I couldn't be happier.
I got the 2020 base version and so far I love it. I don't game on it that much, because I already have a gaming PC. But I can see how someone could ruin this beautiful machine if they play games on it all day and use it on their lap blocking the ventilation.

@Johann Razanadahy I have the advanced model and the fans are silent. However, I did undervolt the CPU and GPU and repasted with liquid metal but before the modifications it was not noisy.
Johann Razanadahy Interesting, my advanced model doesn't make any noise unless the fans kick in
Some 2020 model now have OLED displays. Looks amazing 💯

Some 2020 models have 4K OLED with 300hz refresh rate bro
i believe the 2020 can charge over usb-c
Agreed, my screen repair on my blade 15 took a month... luckily I have a desktop but customer service isn't the best

Picked up a 2019 base model about a month ago, so far no issues. Love it a lot
(Gears 5, Halo MCC, NBA 2K20 etc)
It's also very fast and efficient.
All laptops make noise...even macbooks lol
Disabling the Turbo Boost the laptop won't "rev up" randomly either. Since it'll always bee running at a base clock of 2.6 Ghz.
There's also a bug if your fans do start running randomly, opening up task manager will slow the fans down.
picked up a month ago. it is basically brand new. Ofc it will be fine

No issues with the laptop at all except :
1. Charging port is scratched like a cheetah had s*x with it.
2. I noticed some areas of my screen that have developed some bleeding.
maybe you needed to say first that you discovered oil near home
I bought a 2019 base model and I honestly have lost count of how many times I've used the warranty, customer service sucks, definitely do not recommend
what service did you have on your blade?
Exactly. JUST BUILD A COMPUTER
If you research parts in depth for around a month, you will know the basics about each part.
That’s what I did. Still saving $$$ for parts, so W.I.P.
@@biv_ky Build a computer means absolutely nothing for mobile users always on the go and need a powerful computer.
@@biv_ky your comment doesn't make sense the whole reason we buy laptops if for portability
Going have to stop you right there , just getting base model is guaranteed to have problems, theres a reason for advanced model not just to pay more.
I also have been using Razer Blade 15 for over a year and from last few days it was thermal throttling like crazy, so I cleaned the fans, repasted thermal compound and undervolted it and finally now getting the performance back, I made a video of all the process so it can be helpful to others :)
Due to excess amount of heat my laptop battery swelled and now it has a power limit throttling issue so I have to replace it now.
From the the pic on your thumbnail you look like you regret every second with this laptop.
I would partially define overheating on a laptop as when it gets to hot to be comfortable over long periods of time.
The Mercury White Blade 15 is a beauty! But that keyboard ...
The support is even worse outside US, Canada. I hope hey fix their QC issues and support system. Great video.
Ive had my Blade advanced mode for almost 2 years now (bought October of 2018). It has been one of the best computers I've ever owned and (knock on wood) I have yet to run into any issues with it:)
hey I'm planning to buy a Razer blade 15 but I've heard reviews that the battery usually swell. has that ever happened to you?
Thank you Eber was just waiting for someone to make a video of it!!!
I got the stealth 13 late 2019 last May, so far so good, the built quality is fantastic although the blade is very easy to get dirty at the palmrest but you can clean it easy too
i got the latest blade stealth with the old design and its working since 2,5 years . It dropped me once but errything alright
Does it stain?
Been running a blade 15 2070 advanced model for 17months. Game for hours every day. No issues, performs well, no BSOD. People in the comments sometimes have different experiences though.
I have been using razer laptops these years and never had any issues, everything was pretty perfect for me
which config did you buy? cpu/gpu and screen refresh.

Unless you have a lots of cash or you are tech reviewer, buying anything will lead to buyer remorse. It’s especially hurt this year thanks to AMD
Just buy amd for processors and you'll never get buyer remorse at least for a year or two.
Any issues yet?
@@kendallalston504 no issues so far. officially just past the one year mark and still runs crisp.
Love my blade. Aside from the loud ass fan it’s been great for the last couple of years.
The fan is so loud I can hear it in the next room. It's distracting and makes gaming unpleasant.
@@lfraser8125 would you rather have a loud ass fan or cooling issues? i mean its a gaming laptop, they're all loud under load
Picked up the newest Blade 15 about a month ago, the battery life takes some getting used to (coming from an ultrabook) but other than that it's been great. Built like a tank.
Bought a 2019 razer blade earlier this year and haven't had any trouble with it yet. Was a great investment for me!
Just wait.
I'm bought some Kryonaut and a ifixit kit and hopefully repasting it will bring back the performance I paid for
2019 Blade 15 Advanced 240hz i7-9750H RTX 2080
Also, Razer Support hasn't done anything to help...
I had BSOD issues with my 2019 base model as well, was getting it at least once a week 😓
Same here, BSOD and constant screen flickering, sadly I got mine from a store that no longer exists, but I was able to return it!
I bought mine last year too and don't have BSOD issues with it. I'm actually very pleased and satisfied with it. No problems at all.
I upgraded my geforce drives and it went away!
Razor: releases 300Hz screen

But, the service center engineers might be overworked as right now they are missing a few details during the repair process.
thanks fo making this video i am looking into the razor 15 ! and needed to know if its worth it!
Did you get it? If so what are your thoughts? Considering one myself as well right now.
Thank you for this. The durability of tech is not something that has much coverage. Fantastic insight into the user experience of the Razer Blade. 👍
My very 1st laptop ever is the Aero15 OLED 3060. Just got it yesterday!
That 4K OLED screen is delicious!!!!!!!
Got a great information thank you 👍👍👍
I have a 2019 blade 17inch.

Love this, this is what we need w/ laptop vids!

So, this is what it feels to be early
Got the Blade 2020 a month ago. It's the base with Rtx2060. All in all I love the laptop. I play single player games on it like Hitman 2, and it handles it great with dx12 easily 90 plus fps. I didn't like the warm color on the display, so changed it to cool using Intel Graphics command center. Lastly I purchased a dbrand skin for it.

I’m still pissed at razor my laptop be trippin
