    I thought most (all) mobile CPUs were soldered to the mobo, but last week I was going to change the thermal paste and noticed it is a socket'd CPU.
    I'm going to swap the i3-2310m (2.1ghz) to a i5-2540m (2.6ghz, 3.3ghz turbo) this weekend, both CPUs are 2c/4t and 35w but I don't know if this laptop
    can properly cool the new CPU... I figure if I can run it at 2.4ghz w/o overheating it's worth the app. $14 upgrade.
    EDIT: New CPU runs fine at same temps (79°c)... R20 score went from 378 (@2095mhz) to 566 (@3093mhz)

    So I'm upgrading my computer, will the RTX 3070, Ryzen 9 3900x, and 16GB of ram be a good combo?

    • @technicalfool
      @technicalfool 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seems about right. 32GB if you want to be sure your games will survive packing a ton of mods into them, or if you're also running other things at the same time. Though 16GB is sufficient for just plug-it-in-and-play games. If anything the 3900x might even be overkill for "expensive games console" PCs, but you won't be disappointed in any case.
      Also make sure that RAM is good stuff. CL16/3200 minimum and make sure you turn XMP on in the BIOS, buy a matched pair and make sure you put them in the right motherboard slots to be running in dual-channel mode. Or play it safe and get a matched quad-pack to fill all the slots, depending on whether it's about the same price anyway.
      You could go for CL15/3200 or CL16/3600, but you're really hitting diminishing returns for overkill amounts of money by that point. The 3900x and 3070 will be doing all the work, just don't go hamstringing them both with some awful CL18/2400 or something.
      And don't underestimate the importance of a good 80+ Gold or Platinum-rated power supply.

    Manufacturers soldering on slow 2400/2666MHz ram really limits the APUs performance. Being able to replace all the ram with overall faster memory would be fantastic. I want upgradable laptops back.
