Razer the worst when it comes to planned obsolescence. It like putting a Lamborghini body kit on a ford pinto.
TheBaldr that and their high price tags
it wasnt so much "planned obsolescence" as it was "really shoddy workmanship." something like 2/3 of the machines simply broke in various ways that made them unusable, all still within their warranty periods. ill stick with the plastic asus myself. ive had a few of their hotter laptops in the past, and theyve always been dead nuts stable long past their actual performance lifespan. hell, i just retired a 2nd gen i7 RoG laptop 2 months ago, and only because some physical damage happened to the board.
@@TheBaldr My GF's been using her 2018 blade doing loads of heavy photoshop, Substance Painter and Maya work on it as well as daily driving it as only computer and it works as well as it did day 1. Kinda feels like the gaming laptop reviews for 2020 are all going:
Budget gaming: If you save up a little more, you could buy a G14 instead of the one we're reviewing now.
Mid-tier gaming: This is a solid laptop, but if you're willing to sacrifice screen size for portability, you can buy a G14.
Premium gaming: This laptop is expensive but if you're willing to compromise a bit more, you could buy a G14 instead.
G14 is a beast t. Though and even I want one. Price vs performance ration? Check. Portability? Check. Raw power? Check. Bling for showing off? Hundreds of led lights check.
I wouldn't even say compromise to get a g14.
Asus Zephyrus G14 has a huge problem: it doesn't have a webcam. And in a world where the coronavirus is raging, where working from home and online school has become the norm (for now...)

Every time you bring the G14 into the mix, I get more and more satisfied with my purchase of one.
I have heard it has pretty bad display response times, what is your experience so far, before I decide to buy one? Especially in games that are latency focused and fast paced like esports games.
Martin Pecár i bought a g14 and I havent noticed the response time much, though i dont play FPS’s. Its worth noting that its 25ms, not the 40ms claimed by some review sites.
@@martinpecar7683 of course a ips panel has more latency then a tn panel, but for a laptop, ips is actual important in compare to a monitor and thats why any new laptop has one.. if you rly considering this for esport games, you should get just a tn 144hz monitor or better hooked up with it or a desktop pc. if you dont plan a pro career, this laptop will satisfy with the ips benefits like color, brightness and viewing angle stability, you wont feel the latency except you playing on 240hz Tn panel professional (atleast 6 hours a day non stop gaming).
I don't play e-sports type games on this laptop, so I haven't really noticed any latency issues that hinder the games I like to play.

I tried some calibration with a buddy, but it didn't really help. From time to time I do some light photo editing, astrophotography and family events and none of those monitors really do the job for me, when I know I cannot count on them. And I mean... New editor I think did a good job, I didn't notice any laptop recording shots which idk might be something bad, but the inclusion of the laptop sound allowed viewers like myself to see how the speakers sound, even though they weren't mentioned in the video, and they sounded good.
Ohhhh, I see with got a new editor in house! Greetings, mystery man ^^
This would have been the perfect laptop... Had they included an R9-4900HS or a R7-4800U instead of this quad-core.
The big problem is just that it only has 4 cores, the performance per core is pretty good on the i7-1065G7, but 4 cores vs 8 is just no-comparison...
ryzen 5 4600 would have been ample for this boi
Much cheaper too
AMD is relatively new when it comes to laptops so most laptop manufacturers had intended to use Intel with their laptops.
Also, the reason I bet this has a quad core CPU is for thermals
It's more the video card then the CPU. Yes, the CPU in the G14 is much faster, but in gaming it gets beat by much slower CPU's on a 1660 TI GPU (80w vs 65w GPU). So the CPU is very useful outside of gaming, but the GPU is really the decider for FPS.

I have had a number of gaming laptops over the years across all the major brands with 1070s, 2070-Max-Q, and so on. I bought the G14 to play Escape from Tarkov while I'm on the road. None of the other laptops I tried could get anything above 50-60fps in the game on 1080p medium or high settings. I wasn't expecting much from the G14, either. But, it crushes it. 1080p Medium: between 90 and 110 fps. Really impressed with the G14.
On my case, I have a powerfull desktop and if i were to buy one of those two, i would pay more for the premium feel, overall smalness whilst having the hability to light game on the go.

Either by designing their own controller or or make some level processor emulation so the controller thinks it runs on Intel chip...
In Germany the G14 still costs 2000€ (ca. 2250$)
Same here in France, and for that price we get the 4800HS processor.... not even the 4900HS. This laptop only seems to be a good value in the US. Definitely not worth it in europe!
Would be cheaper to fly to America and buy it then fly back you would save 250 dollars.
@@user-qk8rt9yf9v But you would have to pay taxes if you get back
@@Dynamo2205 or dont, because nobody checks that
@@user-qk8rt9yf9v Maybe if you're flying from Canada. Europe to USA and back is €1000+.
Dang Alex was really good in this one!
It's so funny both you and Dave compared it to ASUS G14.
I'm not sure what you mean by ''looks rather classy for a razer'' it looks exactly like avery other blades for the last 4 years
full size arrow keys are way better, who tf uses the right shift key
We love you man keep going
The presentation of the g14 in its box is more thought of and highend feel
Razer is basically the Apple of the PC world. Charge more than most and don’t back your terrible build quality and quality control.
At least with Apple you get that elusive “ecosystem”
At least Razer cools their CPU
@@alexanderkazarinhelboe1294 Don't they run insanely hot ?
@@alexanderkazarinhelboe1294
My Razer blade was the hottest laptop I’ve ever owned by far.
@@-Burb yes because it also has a dGPU
@@alexanderkazarinhelboe1294
My GPU stayed at 85C. My processor got to 100C and thermal throttled and stayed there. The dGPU wasn’t the issue.
The texture feels so nice
Have you ever felt a thinkpad?
lol
Bring the r/ThinkPad community
That transition to the sponsor was probably smoother than Linus's
i like his reviews so much cuz its so obvious when he lies about a product beeing good while beeing professional...you get the point.
