I can actually afford a new anything. But I wanted a 2014 convertible v6 stick due to the styling & power to weight ratio of the engine. Plus the availability of the add ons!
My experience with the s550 3.7 is the MPT has been great . Some are disappointed where they will not update for minor mods but Ford went with a speed density arrangement so for exhaust and intake changes , unlike a mass air flow design adjusting the tune is not necessary. The ECU will see the change. I highly suggest changing the rear gearing to 3:55 in lieu shortys or an intake if on a budget. Between the changing the rear gearing and a MPT tune your getting the 99% out of a NA 3.7 with 1% for a good cat back.
@@eyevoyeur went from the 3.15 to the 3.55 car is a 6M . Woke up the car as the 3.7 is now in the proper power band. Car sees a lot of longer road trips no negative effect on highway driving . Last summer from Syracuse to Albany average over 30 mpg

Interesting man. Not many people talk about their v6. I got my 2015 v6 with 35,000 mile for 12000!! 1yr and half ago. Haven't regretted it since. Decent mpg and power for a daily. I bought it modified a bit. Previous owner had it tuned and added a different exhaust. He reverted it back to stock tune. Sounds really nice. It growls when it's reved to around 3500rpm and nice and quite under. He added a nice carbon fiber spoiler and some cool dual racelines. Not a big fan of them however. I haven't really modified it myself, but I have done research on what to do to it. I really want to had leather seating and maybe an after market navigation. It's that it is something that is not necessary and I could probably do something more productive with it. I'd say about 1,000 for both. I am thinking about adding struts to the hood, nice and cheap. Lol. I got California legal tint, but I live in AZ and I can legally tint them darker. I probably will, but I did make frequent trips to San diego, I am a little concerned. But it's understandable for someone from Az to have them tinted if I get stoped. Is tuning it worth it? Cold air intake? I use cheap 86 fuel, go to work, have fun sometimes.
Tune and CAI is always worth it in my opinion because it is very simple install and the CAI sounds good and looks good under the hood with some minor gains and the tuner is a must as it brings everything together and is the brains behind all your mods. The tuner is what tells your car you even have the new mods on so it knows what to do with them.
I put the Rousch CAI on a 2014 V6. It sounds great! I don’t really feel a hp difference but i’d do it again for the sound. Next is aluminum driveshaft, axleback and torque converter and a Dyno tune.
I regret going with 20% tint on my mustang. Having to drive an hour from Charlotte to get it passed for inspection is a PITA. I dont regret my Roush CAI for my V6 either, it doesnt add power. But dam it sounds good.
That K&N drop-in air filter improved my mpg from 22mpg to 26! Also cleaned out the Mass Air Flow sensor and throttle body. Runs soooooo much smoother now. 2012 v6 Mustang ~71,000 miles
Unless you like the sound and/or look the following mods are a waste: Cold Air Intake Throttle body spacer Throttle body Shorty headers High flow cats If you're on a limited budget, I would suggest the following: Tune K&N drop in filter Gears Tires Long tube headers if you don't live in California or a jurisdiction that has adopted their standard
Are the mods a waste altogether, or do you think they're just overpriced? Seperately the first mods you mention won't get much, but from what I have read when used in conjunction with each other they do more (the whole is greater than the sum)... and so should be worth it, but you have to go all-in or not at all. My 2016 Mustang V6 (so far): HRE FF15 18x9(f)/18x10(r) wheels, Cooper Zeon UHP All Season tires KnN CAI Bully Dog GTX tuner Installing this weekend: JBA shorty headers aFe Mach Force XP catback exhaust BBK 73mm TB and Airaid TB spacer Next on the list: Driveshaft (G-Force, QA1, or other that fits a 2016 V6 manual; preferably carbon fiber) Down the road: aFe Featherlight coilover suspension Stroker kit (because I don't want a supercharger or turbo, keep it NA)
I listed mods that were a waste of money and those that actually help. An aftermarket cold air intake is a waste because a Mustang already comes with one. A throttle body spacer has never done anything for performance. A larger throttle body doesn't do much because the restriction lies in the intake, not the throttle body. The problem with shorty headers is the tubes aren't long enough for effective scavenging to take place. High flow cats aren't effective for 2 reasons. The first is that in many cases you get "Check Engine" lights. A high flow cat is nothing more than a cat with less material in it. Besides cats don't provide much, if any restriction. I own a 2014 Mustang V6 and my car runs low to mid 12s and I have none of that stuff on my car. The second set of mods are those that I would recommend. I base my selection on performance and my experience at the dragstrip. When it comes to performance parts and claims, be very careful. There are many claims that are deceptive.
ROI with throttle bodies isn't that great. I think you were spot on with the air intake tube with stock air box and drop in (that seems to be a pretty common consensus, even among V8 and Ecoboost owners too). Really your same idea about the throttle body just gets shoved further down the road. Sure bigger throttle body might get more air in, but it's limited by the intake manifold behind it. It's not like the hole behind the throttle body gets bigger to match it. So for the $400 on the throttle body, it's not a lot of hp per dollar. Love the video though, I can tell you put a lot of time thinking about it before filming. Appreciate you putting it together.
All these so-called cold air intakes have a problem with heat soap once you actually parked the car following it being driven I get air intake temperatures almost 50 degrees hotter than the outside air sometimes because of this heat soap I think a heat extractor style Hood like the GT350 or something similar would probably go a long way toward allowing the heat to escape the engine compartment while the car is parked
@@matewansid I think you mean "heat soak". There's a lot of ways to help with this, the HE hood is one, and an open grille is the other, like the Roush grille. As for Six's comments. Even with out the manifold swap, the CAI and Throttle body will still increase performance especially with your exhaust done. Now I know mine's not a 6. (Working on a full build 09, swapping from 4.6 to 5.3 in a week.) I have an open (Steeda CAI) because I also have open grille.
For the most part I think people get cold air intakes for the sound and not just the performance of it. I know the air raids CAI don't put out a lot decibels when you step into it .But the one's like Roush and K&N do. Also if you do a Tune to your car it will benefit from a CAI over stock.
I love the sound of my Airaid. I’m not sure if it gave me more HP but there were times I felt my throttle response was lacking, after the install I didn’t notice that issue anymore. 2011 3.7
A cold air intake would only provide a decent amount of addition power if you supplement it with an *electronic tuner*, to make the car's ECU respond properly to it. Otherwise, like you said, it'll be minimal gains. And even if you do get the CAI and the tuner, you're paying at least a $1000USD for about 15hp. That doesn't seem too worth it.

If u are not racing u dont need a v8 the only difference in the wole care looks and performance between a v6 and v8 is about 100hp which can be made up by a few performance upgrades without spending extra per month on insurance from having a v8 and extra when u buy the car istelf
Hey all. My 2016 3.7 V6 is fun. I have the same CAI, with the BBK Shorty Headers, BBK 73mm throttle body, Magniflow 109099 full length cat back system. For tuner I have unlimited tunes from place out of Florida. I've gutted it ànd added sound deadner because the exhaust drones at 60~70 mph. The TB killed the MPG from 32 to 28ish. I've also added full length Steeda chassis jacking rails, Lower K Brace for the rear end. Ford performance Upper n Lower Front K braces. Done it all myself. Honestly it's fun but hasn't been worth the money... The 6 speed manual is great and after 35k miles I'm still enjoying it.
To add to what he said, you kinda have to be prepared to pay to bore the intake opening and get a bigger throttle body to get anything out of a cold air intake other than just sound. If you get more air out of a cai, but not a bigger opening for the engine to draw in air, it won’t make a difference, performance wise. Still sounds better.
i believe CAI mods are generally worth it. now, if you buy the tuner that sometimes comes with it in AM, that will make it even more worth in in my opinion.
@@stewieiommi aaaand a random attention seeking liberal has entered. What a sad life you must live to have to randomly bring politics into a car mod discussion for the sake of trying to start an argument
The thing with a cold air intake is by itself it won't do much. However if you plan on adding more mods and tunes the intake of more and cooler air is going to be a necessity.
Underrated mod to me in Bilstein pss10 suspension kit, you can fine tune the ride height and stiffness, I leave mine at 7f7r and I glide through turns like never before
Your car came stock with cold air intake. When you take the factory airbox out look at where the snorkel goes, it breathes straight through the grill next to the driver side headlight. That’s cold air. Put it on a dyno before and after and there will be zero detectable difference. It probably breathes a little easier but when you increase the intake area you decrease the air speed and you lose low end torque. That’s what happens when you use a bigger throttle body as well, you’ll get a little more horsepower way up in the RPM range but you will lose low end torque because you’ve slowed down the airflow. That’s noticeable under your foot in every day driving conditions with this car. Low end torque is way more desirable than a little bit of a 10th of a second at the dragstrip. I have a BBK throttle body for sale if anyone wants it. :-)

Can you please keep the updates and new performance upgrade coming keep the 3.7 cyclone community going. This platform should be updated because we all know the 4.6 and 5.0 Windsor was phased out. But , the V6 has potential, as well as the 8.8 and LSD live rear axle end so it’s a true mustang.
The stock air box is the same snorkel design as the aftermarket. That’s why the grill has several holes on that side for air intake. If anything the OEM filters are garbage and a better filter would be best. Throttle body needs paired with ported intake manifold if you want either to work...high rpm 7500
Though I was told from jump that a CAI will not make much of a difference, it looks cool and sounds great and minor gains is still a gain when you are not looking to boost your car. All the little gains add up.

The 73mm throttle body does help with throttle response. I have it with the Airraid cold air intake on my 2012 with 331 gears. Also any thing darker than 25 percent is getting hard to see at night. I have 25 percent and that is plenty dark. I had 35 on an old 2005 Focus I had and it looked good and help when running the AC. I have the mat black 3.7 badges and love them. Have you thought about getting the brake caliper covers. They would look awesome on your Mustang.
I had a 14 3.7 with roush cai, bbk- throttle body, long tube headers and o/r xpipe. Mpt 93 octane tune with 3.73 gears and it was pretty fast and the torque was crazy. Never got to dyno it but it was extremely fun.

I had my issues cause prices of gas in my country are insane, but definitely I'm getting this car, cause the Ecoboost is not an option for me. For all those with the V6s, how's the reliability for these? I come from a Chevy family and all I heard growing up was that Ford was shit since I was a kid. To be completely honest, I've had way more issues with all the Chevys I've had than other brand. I'm driving a Challenger now and I haven't had any issues but I'd like something a little different. I recently found a 2017 Mustang v6 and I'm going to take a look at it later for around 18k. Anything I should look out for?
I only have 33,000 miles on my 2016 V6 but I’ve had zero issues so far (knock on wood). Funny I have a friend who works at a Chevy dealer and even he drives a 2016 mustang V6 as his personal car. What does that tell you? He said that Chevy vehicles are absolute crap. There’s a reason why the Camaro was discontinued from 03-09 and the mustang has been going strong for 55 years 💪 Side note: if you are like me and can’t afford a GT, go with a V6. Don’t even consider an Ecoboost. The V6 has SO much more potential regarding sound, performance and reliability. Ford tries to push the Ecoboost because of its better gas mileage and premium interior but it’s not worth it. Eventually you WILL get bored of the sound and there’s absolutely nothing you can do to make a 4 cylinder sound good. Just my 2 cents
I have a 17 v6 with a roush axle back exhaust and i love it! No issues an at 25k miles with only oil changes and tire rotations for "work" done on the car !
v6 owners want v8 owners to respect them. its not about respect or not being talked about because you dont have the power. look i owned a v6 too and i admired the big 426, i own a 5.7 ram and i respect the 426. too many people say if iveryone could own a v8 then everyone would own one. an sxt charger is 5k less than an r/r charger with the same trim.
It takes colder air into the pistons, because colder air is more dense which means when heated up it cause it to expand even more than usual, thus causing more bang in each cylinder
Mine has a resonator delete for the time being, it’s a little too raspy for my taste and has the most drone I’ve heard from a v6 so I wouldn’t recommend I just wanted something until my exhaust came in
Im in NC aswell down in the sticks , a town called deep run hmu when u want to cruise id be down i have a 2006 v6 no muffler down piped half way. with bama tune

And the trunk space is too small to add anything bigger than 10's as far as subs go. Really thinking about just trading it for a Tahoe and wiping my hands with the whole mustake experience
The people who say “why didn’t you just get a v8” are the same people who don’t even own a car and have no clue how to spend their money.

The thing with a cold air intake is by itself it won't do much. However if you plan on adding more mods and tunes the intake of more and cooler air is going to be a necessity.
yep it was last mod I I did after headers, hi flow cat , ported throttle body and tune
Nice job man. I just bought a '11 V6 premium for a great price cash and gonna do mods to it. Nothing crazy.
oh boy cant wait to watch this
Underrated mod to me in Bilstein pss10 suspension kit, you can fine tune the ride height and stiffness, I leave mine at 7f7r and I glide through turns like never before
Your car came stock with cold air intake.
do you have an Instagram that i could DM for the throttle body
@@quickdrive3488
No instagram but I could send you an email?
Roadslesstravled@gmail.com
I was thinking about taking that motor and place it in my new edge v6
that would definitely be an interesting build
i had the same idea!
Take my warning, don’t go to a regular tuning shop for these cars. They are really hard to tune with out causing problems with cam timing etc
Smoky Truth. I went dyno tune first. Guys had no clue how to max a 3.7. They’re working on V8’s all day.
HEY BRO ITS ALL ABOUT YOU AND WHAT YOU LIKE ,NEVER EVER THINK OR LET ANOTHER MAN THINK HIS CHOICE ,OR THOUGHT IS BETTER, YOUR V6 IS HELLA STYLIN I GOT A V6 AND I LOVE IT TO DEATH ITS A CHOICE PLUS IM OLDER NOW THE V8,GT DUDES THINK ARE IMAGE DRIVEN CUZ IT MAKES THEM FEEL GOOD I MADE MY STANG TO CRUISE ,LOW AND STLYIN , IT BOILS DOWN TO WHAT I LIKE AND MAKES ME HAPPY ,LIKE ITS MY CHOICE .SO LOVE WHAT U LIKE . ALWAYS.PEACE
I happen to like the sound of those v6 engines. Also I think your car is sweet!
The stock air box is the same snorkel design as the aftermarket. That’s why the grill has several holes on that side for air intake. If anything the OEM filters are garbage and a better filter would be best. Throttle body needs paired with ported intake manifold if you want either to work...high rpm 7500
K and N be a great drop in filter with a tune for gains
Though I was told from jump that a CAI will not make much of a difference, it looks cool and sounds great and minor gains is still a gain when you are not looking to boost your car. All the little gains add up.
Exactly, and it will be bigger later as mods work together.
Thanks QD. Quite informative and your car looks great! Mine's silver but I love that blue...
Just bought a 4.0 v6 2008 with lowered suspension loudmouth exhaust throttle body kit and a cold air intake. Going for long tube headers and an X pipe cat deletes she's gonna sound good for a v6.
V6 is my favorite mustang , I have a 2017 convertible and it’s great on power and gas
Yeah i know what you mean i miss my 2014 Mustang CVS 3.7 prem/pony PP that cyclone is the truth!, now i got a 2019.5 Mustang GT 5.0 6 sp. prem/PP1 shadow blk/blk with painted blk roof but my first love is that 2014 3.7 Cyclone convertible.
@@BACON-l3t thats exactly what I have now just got some roush axlebacks, catless off road xpipe, jlt cai with a tune from Auto mafia and a mmd chin spoiler. Its a convertible too.
@@borieseng7534 Ooowwee i know she nice and quick what color is she and year is it?
Borie Seng; how’d that auto mafia tune work out for you?
Insurance and fuel costs add up fast. I have an 11, 3.7 With MT82 and see no reason to trade it off.
Great job on another note 📝 I hope 🤞🏼 you trying to get sponsors thru the auto parts look into that keep pushin
15 or 35 in the front and 5% in the back best combo if you ask me
I had gts before, they are only 1 step ahead of the v8. if you mod right you will shame the v8s like I did with my 2005 s197. its a bit more money to dump in but in the long run you save with insurance, gas and other things. the v8s I had only cost me a ton of money and troubles in the long run. but nice video man.
Well that’s because you were driving a 4.6 more than likely if you had problems. Coils go out on them horribly for whatever reason. The new coyotes are reliable and are no joke
It would be interesting to know mileage of your mustang and how reliable it have been all these years?
Mantas Vilimas my 2010 is about to hit 100,000 and I’ve kinda beat on it
I have a 2014 with almost 90k miles, I also have nitrous and the car still runs great
I have an update video coming soon
Great video man, give me good insight.
Also remember that v6 is 100lbs lighter than the 5.0. The Roush CAI sounds fantastic. IDCare if it doesn’t add any HP the MPT will do that.
Cold air intakes are nice because the sound
Your car beautiful. She looks almost identical to mine. Mine has white stripes and a bigger spoiler.
You essentially have the same setup as me! I have a 13' V6
MPT is focusing on the Ecoboost platform. Not sure who I can go to for reliable 3.7 tuning these days
Auto Mafia Racing, please check them out they do everything 3.7
They are still very good for the 3.7
MPT is still doing 3.7. They’re now advertising a lot about the EcoBoost because the 3.7 is no longer made. Doesn’t mean they won’t tune them.
Good information
Thanks
Pedal commander overrides the factory throttle response no horsepower gain but Quicker of the line and axle back exhaust and oil catch can👍
I don’t understand aftermarket cold air intakes as these cars already have cold air intakes. Look at where the air box is located. It pulls cold air already.
Nice vid mate ! Honest and to the point ! 👍👍
You didn’t mention your spacer. Is it noticeable at all?
Good video !! 👌🏻👌🏻Tks for sharing; where in NC are You at? I have a 2012 V6 Auto, not planning on doing any engine mods at all, maybe some cosmetic ones like logos and stripes, other than that “I believe that keeping it stock” will be my way, I want to leave that car to my son and grandson 😂😂😂.. anyhow I enjoyed your comments and the video. Just subscribed. God bless! 🙏🏻👌🏻🙏🏻
Nice video. How much more sound do you get and how much more power out of the shorty headers
5% all the way baby!!
The only way you'll know if it makes more HP is with a before and after dyno session.
Nice car and great video.
I recently Started looking a V6 mustang for a daily driver. I had my issues cause prices of gas in my country are insane, but definitely I'm getting this car, cause the Ecoboost is not an option for me. In Dominican Republic which is where I live, there is a lot of city driving. Which mods you think can improve MPGs without killing power?
Thanks for this inputs video, just have a question is there a way of having the 3.7 emblem to stick on the side fender? Thank you
Nice car! Thanks for the tips.
Love the color!
Man I bought a convertible mustang when I was 16...in 17 now and I was gonna work on the convertible mustang but now I wanna get a 2013 v8 mustang
30% is so weak i have 15% on mine looks like 5% and i can see plus you can roll your windows down if you need to park etc everyone gets illegal tint i live in cali and if you get pulled over they just tell you change it lol
Great video... I'm looking for a triple black v6 convertible looking to do some mild mods
How do you like the springs on your car? I have a 2016 3.7 and I'm thinking about putting new springs on it.
Much better than stock when it comes to handling. The overalls ride feels the same. Just be prepared to need an alignment and camber bolts
Quick Drive! Thanks man. Huge fan! One of the reasons I wanted a 3.7 was because of your channel!
there is pro dyno in NC if your ever looking for a dyno shop
not bad man
I try to talk everyone I know out of the 5% tint, especially if you drive at night....Unless you want to be rolling your window down every time you turn into somewhere so you can see.
Very true. My work truck has 15% and it's a pain in the ass sometimes. I've also gotten pulled over for it as well.
Any idea how much insurance would be for a 17 year old for a 2012 v6 ? Some lmk it’d be appreciated
Dead on. Im glad you didnt just get a intake and brag but you went the whole way with even a tune to match. How much more HP are you getting. I have a 2014 3.7 and looking to do the same.
Im not trying to be rude, big fan of your channel, but please... their car, not there car..
They're going over there to drive their cars. lol
pkim grammer nazi asshole
What measurements did you use for placement of the badges? I ordered some for my 2015 v6
Can you send the link to the speed daddy headers? Can’t find them
Cold air intakes are kinda bs. The principle makes sense but seeing how the air around the rod is hotter than a few feet up. Its kinda pointless
American muscle told me the same thing when I got my shorty headers. But since I'm hollowing out my cats they said I need a new one
Lol I just paid 100 for ebay header they were way wrong so spent 500 on BBK from America Muscle and they sent me the wrong ones so we will see if they get it right tomorrow
CAI are meant to go with tunes and other parts. Buy a RAI or CAI are really meant to stand alone AND add major performance
There’s a reason why the Camaro was discontinued from 03-09 and the mustang has been going strong for 55 years 💪
Side note: if you are like me and can’t afford a GT, go with a V6.
55k on a 2k16 seems solid and sounds great
Had an airaid. Not worth it, glad I saved my stock air box.
v6 owners want v8 owners to respect them. its not about respect or not being talked about because you dont have the power. look i owned a v6 too and i admired the big 426, i own a 5.7 ram and i respect the 426. too many people say if iveryone could own a v8 then everyone would own one. an sxt charger is 5k less than an r/r charger with the same trim.
Does tuning help in deeper sound for V6?
i have speed daddy and they are 1 year on.. going strong
Kewel.I was not going to do those things anyway to my 3.7 Mustang.
What’s the average price on one.?
So the gauge function in the center display shows inlet temperature. Did the CAI show lower than stock inlet temps after the installation ?
slightly better temperatures compared to the stock intake, but the stock intake still does a great job.
I have a 2003 v6 mustang an I wanna mod it so bad but ion know what to do it
I have 5 percent tint all around except the windshield and you could still see out ok
Bro! What part of nc are you in?
isn't the point of a cold air intake to give more air to the engine? The v6 has enough HP.
Loading Loading No not more air, cooler air.
It takes colder air into the pistons, because colder air is more dense which means when heated up it cause it to expand even more than usual, thus causing more bang in each cylinder
Did you do a resonator delete? If so to loud?
Mine has a resonator delete for the time being, it’s a little too raspy for my taste and has the most drone I’ve heard from a v6 so I wouldn’t recommend I just wanted something until my exhaust came in
No rear gear swap?
Hi guys just bought a 2017 V6 tell me what exhaust would be better to make it sound more like V8
Borla axle back and some long tube headers. It'll sound meaner than a stock v8
Im in NC aswell down in the sticks , a town called deep run hmu when u want to cruise id be down i have a 2006 v6 no muffler down piped half way. with bama tune
I had a Ecoboost mustang Before I got my 5.O ITS A WASTE OF MONEY TO GET ANYTHING UNDER A 5.0 MUSTANG.. WHAT'S THE POINT.
Why're you yelling bro.
the v6 makes as much horse power as a 3 valve after you mod it i have a very nice 2016 3.7 and am putting down 350 hp to the wheels.
I love my 2014 V6
Yeah. I got a 2004 40th anniversary mustang with the 3.9 . Absolutely regret buying it. Can't really do much with it as far as performance upgrades. And the trunk space is too small to add anything bigger than 10's as far as subs go. Really thinking about just trading it for a Tahoe and wiping my hands with the whole mustake experience
